Great Job Matt, Personally I Respect Your Opinion, I didn’t care for Trolls when I was like 10 or 11 years old, Cause I thought the Trolls were Written to be Annoying that’s why I was Rooting for the Villains IMO, But Nowadays Either cuz I probably won’t like it cuz I’ve Grown out of Most a Kids Movies IMO
I remember watching this a few years ago and thought it was a very generic kids film. However, I'd rather watch this over some other Dreamwork Films like Shark Tale and Boss Baby which are worse.
Overall, I'd say this movie is kind of like The Care Bears Movie. Where... it's by no means a great movie, but you can tell by its intentions that... all it really wants to do is entertain the kids. And there's no mean streak in it or anything like that, there's no greediness, it just wants to have fun, it wants to teach the kids a little lesson, and make them enjoy and have fun at the same time. So because of that, you might as well give it a pass. It doesn't know any better. And that's basically it. It's a film that... isn't great, but it doesn't know any better to do anything awful.
Well let's be honest, the only reason this movie was made was because of The Lego Movie. Because basically, The Lego Movie, made the whole idea of making animated films based off of toys and toy brands, really popular, and all the rage. So Dreamworks was basically like: "Well then we need our own Lego Movie." And thus, we got this. This is basically Dreamworks Animation's attempt at trying to cash in on The Lego Movie. And I read at one point, Fox was actually coming up with a movie about playdough. Which... that seems to have debunked. Thank God, cause I don't see how a movie about playdough would work. But then again, I'm an optimist, so you never know. Maybe they could've found a way for it to work. I mean, I'll admit, I was one of the few people who actually thought The Emoji Movie could actually be good. And even though it wasn't, I still think it had the potential.
Yeah, I'm fine with the songs they choose for this film. I mean, it is a kids movie, and I do want kids to know what Sound of Silence is. That's a song I don't mind kids knowing. And there is something kind of funny, thinking that later on, kids are probably gonna look up the lyrics to that song, and discover words like: "Cancer". There is something kind of funny about that. I mean, it's better than in the second film. Because in the second film, they literally have the characters singing songs like: "One More Time", "Gangam Style", "I'll Tell You What I Want, What I Really Really Want", and just the most irritating pop songs. The best songs in that movie are from the villains. Cause the movie begins with them singing: "One More Time", and then the villains come along, and interrupt it with: "Hurricane". You know: "Rock You Like a Hurricane"? So The Villains get the best musical numbers in the second Trolls movie.
Yeah, that's another cliche I'm not a fan of, is when they cast celebrity actors to voice animated characters for name recognition. Ever since Robin Williams voiced The Genie in Aladdin, it's become popular to do that. Now granted, there are cases where they'll get a celebrity actor to voice an animated character because... well... their voice perfectly fits the character. But then there are cases where they'll get a celebrity actor to voice an animated character, simply just because they're well known. And that especially gets irritating when the actor's voice is about as generic as it gets, and it's painfully obvious when they don't care, and are simply just reading into a microphone. Why is is that Meryl Streep, who sounds like she puts on a different accent in every single film that she's in, sounds incredibly generic in both The Ant Bully, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox? And don't even get me started on Nicholas Cage's voiceover jobs. However, probably one of the more confusing examples of this cliche, are the live action Alvin & The Chipmunks movies. In that, what's the point in getting people like Justin Long, and Amy Pohler to voice chipmunks, when you're just gonna speed up their voices? And like I said before, that was one of my problems with the Kung Fu Panda films. In that, while Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman are great in their roles, what's the point in getting Jackie Chan to voice the monkey when the monkey barely has any dialogue in those movies? You could've very easily had gotten someone like Billy West to do the voice of The Monkey, and it probably wouldn't have made that big of a difference. And Angelina Jolie, I'm not the biggest Angelina Jolie fan. And in the Kung Fu Panda films, her line readings just come off as very bland. You needed somebody like Tara Strong, to do the voice of Tigress. I mean Angelina Jolie... she can be manageable as an actress, but she's definitely not a great actress. And definitely not a good voice actress. Again, they do this because they think that's what brings people to animated films are big name actors. But they don't. Likable characters do, regardless if you get people like Ben Stiller to voice them. Again, the Despicable Me franchise isn't successful because Steve Carell voices Gru, it's successful because people love The Minions. I mean, granted I don't love The Minions, but I know a lot of people do, and that's why people continue to come back to those films. Not because of Steve Carell.
I wasn't expecting this.
I like this Film when it came out haven’t see it since it came out
This film needs more House of the Rising Sun and Blue Oyster Cult.

I love Trolls (2016). The second one sucked.
