This was awesome!!! Until the very end, I thought you were a Kodak spokesman because you spoke so very well, and this is so very well done!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for posting this. I don't need to see anything else after watching this- that's how good you are!
This is a great review. Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking through reviews on this product and you've got a great description of how everything works, the product and the software.
I get suckered into these types of videos Thanks for posting it... I started to do videos too, but never know if I can measure up to the better stuff out there lol!
Mad Canadian Top 5 & Reviews You're very welcome. My advice is to just start shooting. My early videos suck. Bad. But I got better LOL. Don't try and live up to some notion of what you think "good" should be based on other people's stuff. Find your own "good".
Can this be used as webcam? for example if i want to record a football game as a coach via OBS platform and as video input from this camera? secondly, does have a direct power working option rather than just battery working? again this is linked to my football game recording (on field as coach).
Sorry for using this post to ask about PS1.. Do you know About some Stabilizer stand that works For PS1.. the only bad thing about PS1 is that images jumps a lot when recording panoramic views.
great review, that really shows you how it works. just got one today, i've seen people use two of them to make full 360 sphere video, and im wondering, just how big is the area that isnt picked up with the camera? do you think it would be possible to use a gopro to fill in the remaining area?
Thanks for the great review. Just a couple of questions. I have looked at the Kodak video samples, Tokyo in 360, and it seems that the unfolded video is much taller than yours, any ideas. Also the quality of the demo video is pretty good. Have you ever run the video from the Kodak software thru any post processing? Thanks.
Maitin Rhode Got a link for me? Now there's a new RUclips rendering option which wasn't available when I first cut this review - ruclips.net/video/vQh4NUMyOaA/видео.html
How strong is the ball and socket mount for the cases? I plan on using it on an RC airplane, and if it has any chance of becoming disconnected, the camera could fall to the ground and break.
+Aubatron I was able to drive around with the included case, and didn't face any issues. Don't know how that might translate to being strapped to a plane though.
Was wondering, if I mounted it upside-down on the roof of a vehicle on the inside, could it be edited to show as right side up for a 360 degree video on RUclips?
+pcramil Well you probably wouldn't want to flip the video, instead the top of the video would be a black bar, and the bottom would be a dome video view of the car interior.
Great video Juan! It seems ridiculous that you loose 10mbps by just transfering the "data" to the desktop software, unless you want to get the square video... Is there another way to get the full quality video out of the camera? Also, what is the format of the video? which codec is Kodak using for this camera?
h.264 MP4 with AAC audio. The only "full res" solution is view the video through a player which can warp the video in real time. I'm hoping they maybe produce a plugin for video editors. It would be nice to have more control over rendering even if the finishing took longer.
JuanBagnell Thanks for your answer, yes it is crazy that you can't really use the footage, in the end, those creative shots are supposed to just be part of a creative concept, not the full story telling, it gets boring after 2 minutes of continuos drive-thru in the boulevard. I think they are killing the creativity, because it would be awesome to use that full hd h.264 video with some decent color correction and vfx maybe. I don't really mind if rendering happens in real time as long as it preserves the video quality, I mean I learn to edit with tapes, betacam and such.... Hopefully as you say, they will produce a plugin, or maybe a firmware update in the future.
I know their target is making this easy for families to use, but it doesn't mean they can't throw some of us more advanced folks a bone right? What I also hope to see is integration with VR headsets. Could be a REALLY inexpensive way to shoot immersive content.
ALEJANDRO ZUÑIGA I don't know. I haven't tried running them through an Oculus yet. I would imagine if formatted for panorama or for RUclips 360, they should work in a 360 x 180 degree dome view.
Hey JB, great video! How is the night video quality? I want to use this thing as an "in car dvr" all the time. Seems like a great way to capture a wide view of everything and have motion detection as well. Thanks!
I have another question. I've seen several videos with the panorama panning. Is that done with the camera or done with the Kodak software. I an thinking about getting one to use with a small drone, and I like the idea of not having to worry about framing while flying.
The camera is great, but I am not satisfied with the additional equipment. The vacuum that is supposed to hold the camera is bad. My camera fell after 5.50 minutes from the car onto the road. It was lucky that the car ran over it, but my lens was damaged.
Hi Juan! Impressive review! I have some questions for you: I saw that it is possible to control the camera with an ios or android device, and switch between one recording mode and the other in realtime. Is it possible to switch from recording to photo mode in realtime? Is it possible to zoom the video in realtime in front mode? And the last one, is it possible to receive pictures taken with the "burst shooting" from the camera in real time? Many thanks!
Nice video I am thinking about trying to use this with my oculus rift. If you want me to 3D print a replacement part for you bicycle mount I would be happy to give it a shot if you take some pics of the broken pieces and give me the basic measurements.
Aw thanks man. That's really nice of you. Doing ok now with the spare, and I'll just be really careful until I can try a molding putty or clay. If you'd like, I could try sending a video file your way to see if it'll work with Oculus. I'm REALLY curious to see if it'll work.
Yeah, I am just getting started with the Oculus but real world 360 videos was one of the ideas I wanted to try. Check out something similar I did with Google Street view (in my videos). I really dont mind doing a 3D part. Its easy and I love the design challenge. Send me a 360 image, let me try first with that.
+kakasanti Sort of? Depending on how you edit them together the "normal" video will either be horribly distorted or be a floating window in a big black space.
+Andrzej Mega Google changed it on me. If you have a problem, write Google a letter. Or just keep being a rude commentor. That works too. Like I have any control over how Google changes stuff...
nice review bro. can you please make another review about the pictures of this camera. image quality, image format etc.. is it good or bad for photography? i use my camera taking pictures all the time not videos so im pretty curiuos about it. thank you and more power to your page.
I think it's a solid little camera, but it is bit on being more of a "family fun" device than the GoPro which is aiming for more of a professional experience.
Do you think the dive housing would take a hit from a paintball per chance? Is it as strong as a gopro case? Just found your channel so very pleased :D
Depending on distance, I think the housing could take a couple shots. It feels pretty solid. I can't comment on the GoPro case as I really haven't run one through its paces.
No worries pal, thank you for your reply, it's to replace a 3rd person camera I wear on my back, I'm thinking this could be a very unique camera for a very unique way of filming, if you get five minutes, could you have a mossey at my "first strike sniping" vid and opinion on weather it not this camera would add to the rear view? Thanks so much for your time :)
Ah no way! No 60fps :( forgot about that if I'm honest, maybe it will be in a version 2 of the camera maybe ;) thank you so much for the feedback and answers to questions, very very much appreciated :)
I wish you would add a bit to this review to show how the spherical views looks on a vr headset. You dont even need a headset just show 20 seconds of looking around in this video while your phone is set up in a vr app. It looks from what you showed as if there is a HUGE dead area at the bottom and if you were to for example say strap the camera to the top of you head and then view it in a vr headset it looks like there would be a circle of dead area on the ground under to in a 30 meter radius. It might not be that bad though but if you show that we could see. It does look like a cool camera but me personally and probably many others looking at this review are only looking for a camera to make vr videos and its the one thing you didn't really show :)... thx anyway though otherwise it was a pretty detailed review.

Dominic Graham I'm not sure exactly. It does crop the middle of the lens as a rectangle (kinda like putting a full frame lens on an APSC camera) so it's not quite 180, but it's pretty damn wide. I used it to review a driving app here ruclips.net/video/IZiQ-7ZUEL4-/видео.html
I will like to see a review of all 360 cameras available or at least your opinion regarding the new Samsung Gear VR, I have one and it is amazing. How the cameras works in the creation of videos for either MILK VR or RUclips 360 videos that is supposed to be available early spring 2015.But there is a bunch of cameras coming soon. My list is Ricoh Theta, Kodak SP360, - You already review and for your review and bought it. Giroptic 360cam, VSN V.360, Bublcam, 360fly.com Thanks
Harsh Shah Is Bubl even actually being sold? Well Bubl gives you a full spherical video, where Pixpro gives you a half sphere dome. Pixpro is also a LOT cheaper, but turns in lower resolution video. Pixpro can also be used as a more traditional gopro style 1080p shooter. It's a tough choice. Depends on what features you care about most.
thank you so much for this review!! I'm wanting to replace my gopro, I think the sp360 is best for me after watching this review, gopro s*cks, watch what happen after two months PROMBLEM WITH GOPRO HERO 3+ BLACK EDITION got damage!
Ben Angel I think there's plenty of room for competing action cameras. This one comes with a decent little screen and it is waterproof at a lower price than a similar specced GoPro.

Thanks to you I bought one, got it today. It is a lot of fun to play around with.
+Tom's Test Kitchen I think this is a really neat little camera. Very versatile shooter.
+Tom's Test Kitchen i got my 360 and did a video around an aircraft. :) i like it
Awesome in-depth review and extra thumb up for the heads up on the data 3:1 data loss part
Glad you enjoyed it! I've been chatting with Kodak to see if there's a way to improve the rendering. Maybe add a high-res "slow render" option.
This is a great review. Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking through reviews on this product and you've got a great description of how everything works, the product and the software.
Awesome review, especially the part where you ditched the box. Yes, we wanna see the cam, not the box.
Very thorough breakdown. Thanks very much.

how can i make a full 360 video using 2 Kodak camera ? what are the steps to be done ?
Quick question, If you add a power bank with the camera will it record for a few hours at a time ?
Thanks for your video! Is it also possible to record 2880*2880? May you upload some original footage?
instant thumbs up and subscription for avoiding that damn unboxing !!! :)
No1BRC I'm pretty sure unboxing videos give you syphilis...
Awsome thanks for the info man I'm about to underwater test the sp1. 360 looks pretty sweet too

Great clear review. Thank you
I wonder if its possible to use two sp360's facing opposite directions to make a full spherical view
Skunkdog Gro The sync might be tricky, but it could work.
Where do I buy the battery of pix pro sp 360 and how much?
What monopod could i use for this action camera? And is there a waterproof monopod? Thanks!
Thanks for this video!
Is the dome really only half a dome? will it capture the nearby floor when placed on a tripod at eye level?
Very nice review!!
Glad you enjoyed it. It's a fun little camera :-)

Now there's a new RUclips rendering option which wasn't available when I first cut this review - ruclips.net/video/vQh4NUMyOaA/видео.html
Does anyone know if the Go Pro mounts fits the SP360 waterproof house?
since the base looks similar, can this work with go pro accessories??

Maitin Rhode there's a setting in the kodak software that will rotate the video while rendering.
Cool... Might just have to order one and play with it. Thank you for the best review
Maitin Rhode You're very welcome, and I can ALWAYS use more help sharing these reviews and samples :-)
OK so am I correct when I say that this cam can do panoramic vid but it cannot do spherical vid? Right?
GeorgeBonez Correct. It creates a half dome video.
Hi there. Thanks for this very nice and detailed review. Just a question though. Can the sp360 do timelapse?
teddturner Yes it can! I have mine out on loan, but I'll be doing a time lapse example once I get it back :-)
The camera is great, but I am not satisfied with the additional equipment. The vacuum that is supposed to hold the camera is bad. My camera fell after 5.50 minutes from the car onto the road. It was lucky that the car ran over it, but my lens was damaged.
show de bola !!!! essa câmera muito legal !!!!

Very old how this is doing in 2021 🤔
I haven't used it I years. It was a handy camera, but I don't do as much with action cameras as I used to.

Aartwood That's a cool rig. The field of view of the Kodak would be even wider, but it can't shoot 60fps if you're wanting crisper action shots.

brickman409 The company has been licensing the brand name. These are made by JK imaging.
What are the dimensions of the camera?
what is the field of view for the regular fisheye. 180 degrees?

eastman kodak company must be MADE IN AMERICA
Kinda sad that company doesn't really exist anymore. They missed too many opportunities on consumer electronics though. Bummer.
that is awful.
time to make in america right away.
