  • Hi folks, in this weeks video I show how I sewed my Summer Shift Dress with Smocked Neckline detail ♥️♥️♥️ I tried out a couple of new, to me, techniques on this project with the smocking and the lapped zip and I’m super happy I did as I will 100% use these again in future projects👍. I hope that those of you interested in sewing something similar enjoy and find the video useful. Susanne 💕

    Pattern - Self Drafted - Base used: Standard woven bodice and skirt block both drafted following the instructions laid out in Diane Deziels fabulous Tutorials:

    Fabric - Stretch Cotton - from my Stash
    Zip - Standard
    Interfacing - Standard - Vilene - widely available
    Stitch length used - normal 2.5mm, longer length 3-4mm, longest 5mm, shorter 1.6mm
    Needle used - size 70 sharps needle.
    My Sewing machine - Brother F420
    My Overlocker - Brother 1043d
    Pattern weights I usually use www.diy.com/de...
    Marking Pen I used here - Prym Chalk Pen
    Paper I usually use for patterning - standard parcel paper

    This is one of my favorites. I kept wondering how you were going to finish that raw edge of the neckline piece - then you enclosed it with the facing! You make that lapped zip look so easy.

    OMG...that is an absolutely stunning dress...and that neckline is to die for!!! Your sewing skills are simply phenomenal. You make every sewing technique seem so easy and that is very encouraging for new sewists.     Beautiful dress, and I love how you matched your nail varnish to the fabric. What do you cut out on, is it your worktop, you seem to have a large cutting area.

    I’ve never seen double darts on a bodice. Why did you use black bias tape around the armholes when the inside is white?
