We created a first-of-its-kind Facebook Live performance of our latest single, “Bear Claws,” using the audio/video time lag to create a mesmerizing visual loop sampler.
Here’s how: We rearranged each instrument on “Bear Claws” to fit Facebook Live’s delay, with each loop getting more complex, adding instruments, rhythms, and melodies. Additionally, by projecting the video live from a soundstage we created an infinite tunnel consisting of all the previously recorded loops.

I like how they used the lighting so that with each loop layer, it was a different color.

Only problem is that with looping a video like that is that the quality deteriorates with each loop, the most recent loops have better quality, just after 2 loops the red looks orange

my favorite part is how, having never heard this song before, the bits of lyrics he sings at the start made me think he was the one who didn't love the girl. he then completes the sentences and the song meaning changes. she never loved him!! goosebumps!!!

OK GO has been known to work with directors and studios to make really cool music videos with detailed, live-action visuals. For example check out their "This too Shall Pass" video where they built a Rube Goldberg Machine. I do too- the slow build up gives it a sort of 'dreamy' sound that the original doesn't have.
I love it but it eschews the verses. Too bad there wasn't a way to incorporate the verses without making this a half hour long

They're using a studio looper with their instruments and mics plugged in, so it would still sound perfect, the video would just look desynced. I'm sure there was a little bit of that but it was imperceptible.

ok that was really cool. Loved the way it all layered up to such a deep sound, and the song itself is was very catchy. Going to have that in my head for the next week lol. Great use of the medium!
I want to know how they kept the volume levels so consistent through the loops. It's incredibly impressive no matter what solution they used, to be fair.
All the looping was done in their own equipment, only the final result was streamed. The feed being shown on the projector wasn't actually going through Facebook servers, it was being controlled by their own software to keep the loop consistent with the click track in the earpieces they're all wearing.

The world needs more bands like this and less manufactured music. There are a lot of people that can sing in key, there are a lot of good guitar players, drummers, etc... The creative musicians are the ones society should reward.
Just so you know, it also requires talent to make music on a computer/with a synthesizer/etc. Not to diminish their skill, though. This band is incredible

This is honestly a journey. It goes through these interesting changes as you add layers, like the reveal of how the "ay oh" fits into the first lyric loop, and then the reveal when the rest of the lyrics are added. And that epic moment when the drums join in. It all comes together to be more than the sum of it's parts.
I've seen so many music videos on this site, but nothing compared to this. They better win some awards for this shit. This is so remarkable.
