  • Baker Beach is a popular public beach on California's San Francisco Peninsula. The beach is located on the Pacific Ocean's shore northwest of the city.
It is about 0.5 mile (800 m) long, starting just south of Golden Gate Point (where the Golden Gate Bridge connects to the peninsula) and going southward toward the Seacliff peninsula, the Legion of Honor Palace, and the Sutro Baths.
Baker Beach's northern half is "frequented by clothing-optional sunbathers,"[1] making it a nudist beach. John Henry Baker founded Golden Gate Milk Ranch in the 1850s on 160 acres (65 hectares).
The property was stated as being roughly 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) west of the city on the then Point Lobos Road (now Geary Blvd.) Baker passed away in 1863, and his widow, Maria, was bankrupted in 1879. Baker's grandson, Fairfax Henry Wheelan, sued [4] in 1897 to have the title returned to Baker's heirs, claiming that Baker's widow lacked the legal power to mortgage the land.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the Golden Gate, a one-mile-wide (1.6-kilometer) strait that connects San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean.
The bridge connects the United States city of San Francisco, California-the northern extremity of the San Francisco Peninsula-to Marin County, transporting both US Route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait.
It also accommodates pedestrian and bicycle traffic and is part of US Bicycle Route 95.
The bridge is one of the most internationally recognized icons of San Francisco and California, having been named one of the Modern World's Wonders by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
It was created in 1917 by engineer Joseph Strauss.
The bridge was named after the Golden Gate Strait, which it traverses.
According to Frommer's, the Golden Gate Bridge is "perhaps the most beautiful, and certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world.
It was the world's longest and tallest suspension bridge when it opened in 1937, with a main span of 4,200 feet (1,280 m) and a total height of 746 feet (227 m).
