The Defenders - Choice of Evils (Rare TV Movie w Martha Plimpton, Beau Bridges)

  • In the 90's they attempted to reboot the television drama "The Defenders", starring Martha Plimpton and Beau Bridges. Unfortunately actor EG Marshall, from the original 60s show, died after the second episode was completed. They were aired as TV movies and then released in very limited quantity on VHS. They've never been released for streaming or DVD since then. This is ripped directly from VHS, thus the quality.

Loved it. The Defenders would have been as great as The Law and Order series and such. I love legal dramas mixed with everything and this does it.

Met Lloyd Bridges over here in Cayman. He was on a cruise with his family. I knew who he was but decided not to intrude as he paid for his purchases with his wife. He then said to me 'you have the most beautiful blue eyes'. That was it....i had to gush, not aa lovely as yours! True. Fun.

Series of new films on Showtime based on the old television series finds the lawyers having to defend a journalist charged in a wrongful death. However, because of a bureaucratic screw-up, he is accidentally freed from prison which sets him on the run and into an incident in which a policeman is killed during an attempt to re-capture him. - imdb

From the predictable early round scenes of the initial "reversal of fortune", I thought that this film may degrade to a series of predictable plot developments. What a pleasant surprise that this script slowly unfolded into a very engaging, suspense filled, and emotionally sinuous "ride" =👌 Thanks James Bradford, very enjoyable....
OH.... and Martha Plimpton has never been one of my favorite actors, but her role and performance was pivotal = 👍

I just discovered this series yesterday. I was busy in the 90s so it’s a treat to find so many gems like this show on RUclips now. The writing, acting and storytelling were so good. Bridges and Marshall are superb along with the supporting cast.
I’ve been finding so many outstanding shows and movies on RUclips I’ve cancelled all my other subscriptions. I have RUclips premium so I don’t get ads. I find the quality of movies 20, 30 and 50 years ago far superior to almost all the new shows. Today’s programs lack even elementary levels of storytelling. They are mostly special effects, poor acting and horrendous editing with straight cuts every second or more. None of that is needed to tell good stories. What happened to writers?

@MovieMakingMan....I concur.....I also subscribe to YT-Premium, and not only get to watch these great old(er) movies without commercials, but can also enjoy my "Zero to 1800" type of classical music - some rare finds of great recording qualities (both life or recorded).
That said, I still maintain my premium Netflix subscription as well, simply in case YT's exec suite decides that their shareholders are being short-changed.😂

@@andrep8287 Cool. I love RUclips premium! I pay about $80/ month for hulu and $12 for RUclips premium. I watch RUclips 95% of the time, Prime 4% and Hulu just 1%. I only have hulu to watch college football and basketball. That’s a high cost to watch Hulu for so much. I wish I could find a way to watch college sports without a high cost streaming service.
I started watching the movie Suddenly last nite. It’s a remake of the 1957 version with Frank Sinatra and Sterling Hayden. The original was outstanding. I’m going to finish the remake tomorrow. I can’t believe all the great movies on RUclips.

Not to be picky, but you failed to show the 12 locks that the Haitian couple would have had to open to admit MJ. LOL
Also, it is sad that MJ admits to sleeping around; she seems to regard sex as a form of recreation. That's an American problem.

But no god had anything to do with any outcome. I’ve read the Bible many times. Christians don’t read the Bible. If they did they’d realize the biblical god is a serial mass murderer that loves genocide, misogyny, slavery, animal & human sacrifices, torture, rape, incest and countless other immoral acts. That ‘god’ ordered his ‘chosen people’ to slaughter entire towns but spare little girls who were then enslaved and raped the rest of their lives by those ‘chosen people’. Anyone who has an open mind and is honest who reads the entire Bible would become atheist. There’s not one human being who is as immoral as the biblical god. Christianity is the worst invention of man in world history. It is worse and more deadly than all wars, weapons and diseases in the history of mankind. There are at least 125,000 known gods through time. That means that Christians who believe in just one of those gods is 99.999995% atheist. If they actually read the Bible and we’re honest it would remove all doubt and that 99.999995% would become 100% atheist.

Very good now who will help Janette F Robinson Brown on finding out if Elvis Presley is my biological father or if Elvis just used my mother who was related to him through the West Virginia bloodline if Elvis conned my mother into a sexual affair with John F. Kennedy and Monroe and later Elvis takes my mother to Roychester NY and has her committed into a insane institution which she was later released because my mother was extremely smart but they injured her skull leaving me to believe my true mother was possibly Rosemary Kennedy see they forced Eular Agnes Robinson to take the place of Rosemary so Rosemary could at least live a normal life but what her father my grandfather did to her brain was wrong see no one understood Bi-polar at the time so my Grandfather had my mother put under surgery that went wrong. Yes I am blood related to John F. Kennedy so sad at his family comes to Anderson, SC to watch me but they never bother me because they don’t want me to know who my true family is. So sad because I could frankly give a damn. You see me and I see you but yet you abandoned me.
