5:52 caught me off guard. James comparing having children to ‘shooting your personality in someone’ was hilarious. Even Mason thought it was a bit too far. XD
Gunn and Safran have worked on many productions together as partners so yeah they'll do just fine. One handles budgeting and business. The other ushers in the talent and storytelling. Both work together to make it make sense.
I was so annoyed that they recasted Cassie Lang, I really liked the actor in endgame, That scene were she and Scott reconnect is my favorite in the movie. For that brief moment She captured real grief and joy, I thought she was just wonderful and was hoping to see more of her. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
I recommend Henry Rollin’s “Get In The Van” and Bruce Campbell’s “If Chins Could Kill” for two very entertaining celebrity memoirs. Not sure if they had ghost writers or not.
To go along with what Henry Cavill said, Beau DeMayo, the showrunner of the upcoming X-Men '97 series, expressed that some of the writers "actively disliked the books and the games" while also working on The Witcher. So Cavill definitely wasn't alone in feeling something was off
The new costume tennant is wearing seems to be a mix of the Matt Smith and the Capaldi costumes as well... so his regeneration may be unstable and shifting into his past selfs before he actually regenerates. Which means he'll probably briefly shift into Smith and Capaldi during these specials.
Order 1886 is a short cinematic game with poor gameplay but it is literally my favorite setting out of all fiction out there and not getting anything in that setting is making me really sad. Victorian era steampunk, knights of the round table, wealthy evil vampires, werewolves; it has so much potential. I'm currently DM'ing my D&D group in a setting similar but currently they are in earlier times and I plan to move their characters forward in time once they finish their current arc.
While not an insult the most peculiar, unique Aussie phrase I ever heard is 'Bob's your uncle'. I had an Australian teacher for Chemistry in high school and we developed 'Mr. Hughson Bingo' where every class we'd draw up a bingo card and plug in random Aussie slang he'd use, Bob's Your Uncle was the middle square. Didn't learn much Chemistry but had a lot of fun.
I once worked with an Ausser from Melbourne who was a joiner and about this time of year, at the Scottish Parliament project, he got a call from his Mum, in Aus to tell him his tax had been done and he was to pay another 3000 grand. That's probably why I enjoy your joke so much.
Answering your question about the AirBnB booking in Barbarian (Slight Spoiler) 1:25:52... Justin Long's character talks to management company when he first reaches the house. They tell him there hasn't been a booking in weeks and that the cleaning service only comes the day before a booking. This explains why nobody has come to the apartment since Tess and Bill Skarsgard went missing, as well as establishes that Tess was trapped in there for a very long time.
Not sure if anyone else had this experience at their school, but Daniel Morcombe’s parents used to go to hundreds (i think?) of primary schools across QLD (unsure about other states) as a part of their Daniel Morcombe Foundation and give massive assembly talks about what happened to their son and just general things on how to avoid getting abducted as a little kid. Not sure if they still do these days though.
Trevor Noah and Jennette McCurdy have INCREDIBLE memoirs. Some of the greatest books I've ever read and I'm not big on non-fiction so much. They have lived truly interesting lives. Meanwhile I tried to listen to Bob Odenkirk's memoir and its just. Not very interesting.
OOhh, I have to watch some films for this episode. Barbarian was on my watch list already, I'll watch The Stranger too after it :) Best podcast ever, btw.
33:00 I know a lot of people have been using the first regeneration as a comparison to the most recent one, but I'm not really sure why. The Second Doctor's first episode post-regeneration is missing except for stills and audio, and having listened/watched what has been made available, the First and Second costumes were nearly identical, except for like their ties and the their shirts, and the only real acknowledgement of the Doctor's clothes changing seems to be that they're looser (which tracks, since the Second Doctor mostly looks like a baggier version of the First). The show didn't really establish that each new incarnation would have a wildly new flamboyant costume until the Third Doctor, and that's kind of the thing: because this was the first one, the goal was less about working out all the ramifications of how regeneration worked, and more so just keeping the show going with a new lead, whilst also not just replacing the two actors without explanation. The most recent regeneration I can only presume from everything I've seen that something is up, and Tennant's got to investigate.
Speculating on the clip with a lot of antmans and a giant one is shredded to ribbon-goo.. bill Murray's character in the comics has the ability to manifest someones worst fears into physical reality. That might be what's happening to ant man there
In Barbarian the agency that manages Justin Long's Airbnb says that they only clean the property before new guests arrive and since no one has booked the property since the last guest (the protagonist lady) they haven't cleaned it and are just assuming she's already checked out. It doesn't make a whole lotta sense and it's definitely not how actual Airbnbs are managed but it's just there to explain why no one has checked the Airbnb in a week I guess.
I stopped the podcast to watch the stranger and it WASNT FOR ME so boring. But they did say mate alot. SPOOKY MOVIES is my favorite thing this week though so hearing that again when I came back to the podcast is a positive.
I believe so, but I imagine they'll make it that he "needs time" to comprehend them and give them context. It's a bit like Sydney Dean lecturing Billy Hoyle about listening but not hearing Jimi Hendrix in White Men Can't Jump. ;)
@4:30 Wanda Maximov "She'll still be crushed under that collapsing tentpole or whatever..." Listen lads, mebbe lighten up on the editorial content, eh? Remember who signs yer paychecks - Mr. Marvel Moneybags.
All I know about Guardians 3 is, Gunn needs to get outside of his comfort zone with the music. Quill’s 300 song Zune, if that’s still all he has, needs to have some real bangers
I am realizing this episode that I like when one of either James or Mason is a little tired. Both of them at 100% makes me feel like I should have more energy just to listen to this.
I'm the only one cautious againts Gunn bein leader of DC?He jump into Superhero world 8 years ago.And he made his job as Director.Feige otherhand was producer of superhero movies since 2000's.Idk he can manage a universe have such a diverse characters?Till he get onto stage and put a schedule to desk I got nothing.
Yeah I'm cautious for those reasons and really against anything WB is doing. The reason it's so hard to find their "Kevin Feige" is because he's one of a kind, a fanboy with decades of experience producing movies.
He's gotta show he can let other ideas shine. Geoff Johns was one of my favorite writers but he pushed aside a more popular character portrayal so he could push his own version forward instead. It was a very immature decision for an administrator position.
Holy crap, I thought they were joking when they said the new doctor was Tennant again! I love him as the Doctor but wow, sounds like they totally ran out of ideas
The whole "Don't dare look at any descriptions of the movie so you don't spoil yourself and you'll love it like we did!" did not work for me. I hated Barbarian. Surprise garbage is no fun. :(
I love James Gunn's career arc. Micky Mouse fired him after the far-right folks were snowflakes about his ancient dead baby tweets. Then Disney realized that they were leaving a BILLION dollars on the floor if they didn't rehire him, they brought him back for GotG 3 and then he's off to run DC movies for the rest of his life lol
Yeah I don’t get why he’s the 14th doctor? And I also love how we’ve had 12 white males as the previous doctors and now it’s like nah mate, blonde woman, Tennant is back, and then a black man 😂 I can imagine the hate in some fans
If I’m honest I don’t think Steven Moffat tried making the Doctor cool. Especially not with Matt smith. I’d say he’s a good writer and the doctor is the coolest guy in the universe

The House in Barbarian was on Barbary Street. Anyone who grew up and lived there would be a Barbarian.

The movie is called Barbarian because it takes place on Barbary St. So the residents of that street could be called Barbarians.
