I recently pulled the motor on my 1994 mercruiser 4.3. When I got it back in, What I have noticed so far. Auxiliary power seems to be on when the ignition is turned off, and off when the ignition is turned on. If I leave the key off, the stereo works, bilge pump turns on with the switch, lights work, and blower works. When the key is in the on position, I hear the fuel pump and the engine turns as normal, but I lose the ability to do anything else when the key is turned to the on position (bilge pump, blower, lights, stereo).
Ok video but I'm looking for a video how to hook up ignition switch to 13 HP engine with oil low shut down this was just a simple swap but my ignition switch is different 5 or 6 wire's and a shut off relay wiring does your boat have a shut off relay?
Hey chris, my name is toby, I have a 90 horse outboard chrystler boat motor, I have absolutely no power to anything , I think it's the switch, can I use a 4 prong, or do I have to purchase a six prong like it has on now, if I can, what can I put the choke wire to what prong
@@BigIslandMNMinnetonka hey chris my name is toby, I'm apologizing now for this long message, but I have to explain it to a t. I have a 19 ft Sears 90hr chrysler outboard boat. I had it out at beginning of summer, and everything was great. I docked and went to the bathroom, and when I got back it was completely dead In the water. Nothing. No power, no nothing, So I've replaced ignition switch, new battery, new pos neg cables, new starter, new selinoid ,plugs, still nothing, wont even hum. I put the light up tester to ground, blah blah and the new battery lit up, and next I put it to the positive post coming in to the selinoid, it lit up. So I have power coming to, and into the selinoid, so I put the tester on the other side of selinoid on the out post( selinoid has three posts, one on top and one on both sides of seloid) nothing, i cant get any readings passed the post going into selinoid. what do I do? I just bought a brand new selinoid, and the old one I replaced it with did the same thing so that was a waist of money, as I'm positive the old starter was fine as well, please please any and all advice would be so greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks
Hello Toby, Did you get an answer to this question? I have an 85 HP Chrysler with a 6 prong ignition. Can I replace it with a 4 or 5 prong new ignition? If so, Where do I hook up the Choke? Thanks, Mike
@@BigIslandMNMinnetonka hi, the problem was solved, I changed the starter solenoid. My new problem I think is the fuel pump. The outboard starts when connected to the fuel tank but after 30 secs it dies but if I disconnect the fuel line from the tank it runs perfect for ages with the fuel in the engine and if I try to reconnect the fuel it dies after 30 seconds or so. My guess is fuel pump though.
So when I go to start my boat motor and it fails to start and the starting keeps cranking with the key on off and completely out of the ignition with this most Likly fix it?
If you have no key you need the whole unit like I put in in this video. Sorry if I didn't respond I didn't see your question. I have many channels and am not always signed into this account
Great video on how to replace ignition switch.
Thank you
Awesome video and you saved me a small fortune.
Exactly video I was looking for .... Thanks
love your videos. thank you
Thank you
After replacing my ignition switch my bilge pump stopped working, any tips. First boat, first repair, thanks for any help 😀
It is likely unrelated. Unless you bumped a wire loose
Great job. Always that one person...
Gives me confidence

Sorry I am no help.
Randomly my boat doesn’t want to turn over do you think it could be the ignition?
Check battery connections and charge battery. Try turning the front pully to make sure the motor isn't locked up.

My key was turning the outboard off but now it wont cut out the engine. Any reason why?
Sorry unsure with out testing.

Possibly. Hard to say. Something could be sticking in the ignition
Can you replace a key switch with a push button switch? Same 3 prong
I'm guessing completely different fix. Sorry
Sorry I had a few yesterday. I would research how the buttons work. I like the idea of a push button though.
What engine is this?
2001 mercruiser 4.3. But, the ignition doesn't matter.
You need to start by telling us what boat this ignition is for
The boat brand doesn't make the ignition. The same ignition can be used in just about every boat. It matters how many wires connect to it
It's a "Tumbler"
I have the same problem
Does not answer my question. If I buy a boat with no key do I need a new switch for the boat or the outboard motor as I have been told both.
If you have no key you need the whole unit like I put in in this video. Sorry if I didn't respond I didn't see your question. I have many channels and am not always signed into this account
Why is there no sound?
I have sound. Sorry unsure why you don't
OMG 😅
That isn’t a boat. That is some type of Yankee Doodle toy for seeing if you may want a boat
