Great video! My takeaway is that you “can” use Dawn and it won’t hurt your paint or sealant. But should you use Dawn? No because there are better soap options out there. Using the best tool for the job is what makes the most logical sense.

Yvan Lacroix did say that dish soap won't damage waxes/sealants but rather they leave behind a layer of surfactants that will eventually clog up the car's surface over time making it seem like waxes/coatings have failed. If that's the case then it might be better to use a baby dish-soap as they are designed to rinse cleaner without leaving any residue behind. In fact it's probably best for everyone including adults to use baby-dish soap instead of regular dish soap in general.

    • @matsudakodo

@@TheBreakfastLover I can't vouch for all dish detergents out there, but Dawn rinses clean. I've tested this and there is nothing left behind. Also consider that if that weren't true, we'd all be eating off of dirty dishes and eating Dawn, too. With that said, it looks like he is not using regular Dawn-he is using Platinum Advanced, which I'm not familiar with.

    • @TheBreakfastLover

@@matsudakodo that's why baby dish soap is different than regular dish soap. They claim it leaves no surfactants behind. And yes, we are ingesting trace amounts of dish soap every time we eat/drink with them.

It’s funny how some people make Dawn out to be the boogie man! It’s a liquid soap, with degreasers and sometimes gloss enhancements. Pretty simple. In fact if you have a ceramic coating you could add an ounce of Dawn to a ph neutral soap for some added cleaning power.

I'm curious what, if anything, had been done to the car prior to this experiment? Is this raw, original clear coat or did it have anything applied in the past, ceramic or otherwise? There could be a chance you got down to this layer and something applied for the test did get removed? I ask because I'm really surprised about the Meguiar's, I've used dish soap to remove Zaino in the past and it worked really well - went from beading easily to pure sheeting with no beading at all. I always assumed it was because the dish soap did indeed remove the wax. I'm just "thinking out loud", I am not being contrary to the test and in fact really appreciate it, as well as you, your videos, and everything else. Just an honest question. I've seen it myself, and in other videos as well, maybe it's "some" waxes that can be removed? Regardless, I certainly agree it's safe for the pain and clear coat, never a question about that.

    • @chrisbradley3224
      @chrisbradley3224 Месяц назад +1

Actually the dawn didn’t remove your sealant. What it did is leave a temporary film that is hydrophilic and masks the beading of your sealant. I tested Dawn at many dilutions on a test panel and this is what I observed. It can remove wax sometimes but that’s it. It does “clog” sealants for a bit but it’s temporary.

Hey Greg thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate the way you put out your comment, in a very respectful way. To your question I have ''polish'' or removed everything on the paint, there was no coating on this car other than a few quick detailer spray sealant. I verified the water behaviour after the Bola Paint cleanser, it was as flat as it can get. For the Meguiars wax it started to get beat up quite a bit by the wash #15 or so I'd say at the end its still there and sheeting but got it's hair knockoff for sure. The alcohol prep before the last inspection helped to remove some of the Dawn residue though. Lastly yes it's all original clear coat from 2016 other than the roof. Let me know if there's anything else. Thanks for being part of this channel.

The issue isn’t the stripping power, it’s the lack of lubricity. Even if using a pre-wash, the car would normally have some muck on it, when doing a normal wash with dish soap. It doesn’t have the lubricity or encapsulation to help keep scratches away when washing cars in the real world.
It has been long known that dish soap doesn’t strip waxes or sealants and that they shouldn’t be used as a strip wash. With this test, each wash was done on a clean car. The scratch prevention of the dish shampoo isn’t tested and THAT is the big problem with it - far more swirls.

If you watch the V1 of dawn video I even use the inspection light to check out the swirl factor ruclips.net/video/T126V37hvjU/видео.html. Seriously everything will mare to some degree, espcially overtime, most daily driver would benefit from a polish every 2 to 3 years regardless. Using a pre-washer and a solid pre-wash/pre rinse does 90% of the ''swirl reducing work''. Glad to have you on the channel cheers ✌️

@@Detailing_Dogma it feels slick for sure, but it’s primarily designed to clean ceramic plates and pots and pans with a basic sponge/scrubber - swirl protection is not part of the design process. Hey, as a professional detailer of 20+ years. Please allow me to clear some things up and quiet the noise. It's not the product, it's the car washer. I find it funny that people will down Dawn. But, are the same people who use SuperClean, Purple Power, All Purpose Cleaner's, etc. The chemicals at tunnel car washes are just as bad. All will degrade or diminish your clear coat with repeated use over time. Especialy, if not diluted correctly. It's not just what you use, it's how you "use Dawn" that's important. May people don't understand how to use Dawn. Less is safer. Any soap must have some bite in order to be an effective cleaner. If not, it's just plain water. Just like people think more foam equal better cleaning power. Well, over the years, i've used Dawn on car paint, wheels, engine and glass with no issues, from daily drivers to high-end vehicles. It's about cleaning, preserving and protecting the clear coat for as long as possible. You can ruin your clear coat, wax or sealants just by letting your ride sit outside uncovered in bad conditions. - TCD, y'all.

I imagine it probably could, if someone just used it constantly without applying a wax, sealant, or coating to rejuvenate the paint. Maybe not the Dawn alone, but the combination of Dawn with the elements. It would be the same as using an APC and not following up with rejuvenating the surface. Basically for those that know how to use it, there isn’t any harm.

Yeah, I agree clear coat is essentially nothing anymore, just a very thin layer.

Before even watching video I will say it takes away the wax. It won’t hurt paint , I never heard that. But it’s meant to clean the dishes and whatever is on them. Why is this even a discussion. Let the dummies use dawn if they want. My cousin uses dawn and that’s it. Could care less about any protection or wax. If you care about your vehicle then use the right stuff. That simple. Car wash is so damn cheap I don’t understand , lol. What about 25 cents to wash.

@@Detailing_Dogma I did and I did see the results and that it did not hurt the finishes. But I will still use car wash , good video. 👍

My paint is breaking down despite doing everything to protect and maintain it. Why ? Because it’s a Toyota and all cars similar age with pearl white paint are failing!!!! Toyota cars are great, paint is crap! 💩

Hey Cotton, you're right white toyota is brutal, some reports outhere they still use single stage paint for white. Honda is pretty cheap as well, paint chips will rust in matter of couple months. Cheers

Because Dawn doesn’t destroy ceramic coating or harm the clear coat layer, doesn’t mean using it isn’t moronic.
