  • In this video I discuss my top three reasons why I LOVE hiking! By watching it, I hope to inspire you to get out for your first adventure! And remember, it doesn’t have to be miles and miles away on a mountain somewhere, sometimes the best place to start is from your own front doorstep! Thats what I did for my first few hikes and look at me now! I’ve hiked over 159 Miles and I’ve loved every second of it!
If you liked the look of any of the hikes you saw in this video be sure to check out the full films on the rest of my channel, or if you want to binge watch my projects have a look at the playlist I have linked bellow:

    @David P. McEntee
My name is David P. McEntee - I’m a professional videographer who LOVES to spend his free time outdoors hiking. In recent times I have focused on exploring and documenting my local area, I have hiked 42 miles along the Grand Union Canal, 18 miles along The Ashridge Boundary Trail, 24 miles on the hike that went wrong, 18 miles along Ivinghoe beacon and 12 miles along the Chess Valley River! Its been amazing, I am completely hooked! My last hike was 12 miles along the Jurassic coast and next I'm hoping to head up to the peak or lake districts! Time to see some mountains again I think! Thanks for checking out my channel and for watching my films, I put hours and hours into these so your support really does mean a lot! :)

100% for the mental health reason, that's exactly why I started hiking. I was going through the hardest time in my life, although I've never been diagnosed with depression it felt pretty close to it, then one day I found the courage to sign up to one of those charity hikes which pushed me to train for it so I walked every other day, then hiked further at the weekends....I found a peace like nothing else ever experienced, I found a goal, focus, built up my stamina and health, I found joy. 3 months later I hiked a marathon distance and the love for hiking has had a hold on me ever since. Being outside has truly lifted me up and brought me real happiness, I love it. .....'not all those who wander are lost'

David, we talked in private a few weeks ago and I have an addition that fits this topic. I'm a new Doctor of Physical Therapy in the US. To me, we are fundamentally meant to walk the land. In the animal kingdom, some are fast runners, high flyers, great swimmers, powerful diggers, but we humans are bad at all of it, except long-distance-walking. We do it efficiently, we have a foot that translates perfectly for the task and it's what our body is meant to do. Tap that into your thoughts and recognize walking is deep in all of us. Keep it up.

I hike and I'd genuinely prefer that so many others didn't. Specifically in North Wales, hiking was somewhat ruined for a short time during the "pandemic" by amateur hikers who'd come up the mountains, make loads of noise, blare music and leave litter everywhere.
I'd honestly rather keep the mountains to myself and others who will respect eachother.

    Nicely made vid!
I've been upping my walking for about 6 months now. This last month you encouraged me to explore Rickmansworth to Chesham, for example, and that was the furthest I have walked in many, many years. 🚶🏻‍♂️
I can now say that mental health is my first reason and physical health a close second - I'm aided by modern technology too (an iPhone for taking pictures, an Apple Watch for logging and spurring me on, and paying for the coffee and train tickets! 😃)
    Keep up your motivating uploads!!

Very well made video and I hope you make a "noob's guide to start hiking in the UK" video soon. I am an international student new in the UK and I would love to go on hikes but I am lacking in knowledge (I am still a bit scared of not fully knowing how public transport works in the UK, nor sure of what websites/gear/resources to use), money (broke student life), and time (deadlines and assignments 😒 ) - so any advice or guidance would be helpful. I am pretty sure a lot of people like me would benefit from a thorough extensive guide to getting started with hiking (esp. in the UK)! Cheers!

What your filming passion is while hiking is geocaching for me. The result of being outdoors is the same as yours: focused to the moment, inhale the here and now without distractions (for hours I do not even think of looking for messages in the phone) and react to the experience that is given, let the mind clear itself. All to often I recognise a shrinking of all day problems.

Hiking is amazing alone and with others, for different reasons.
Alone, you truly feel reset and calm, but with a challenge and goal.
With others, you can truly bond with that person with a shared experience and just talking on the trail. I have made a tradition with my dad where we climb a one of the 3 peaks every year, this being our penultimate year with Ben Nevis - then we're doing the 3 Peaks in 3 Days.

Fantastic video, and your enthusiasm really shines through!
I've been hiking on and off since I was a kid, and always enjoyed it, but what really got me into it in a big way was when I joined a walking group, part of The Ramblers, and met lots of like-minded people and made some great friends. If you're not so confident about going hiking on your own - either from the point of view of personal safety or just not getting lost - then walking with a group is a really good way to get around those worries. Or if you're just struggling for motivation, very easy when the weather is not so inviting, knowing that you've told other people that you're going to meet them for a walk can help to get your arse moving in the morning, and stop you from wussing out!
I know not everyone enjoys walking as part of a group - some people prefer the peace of solitude, the freedom to explore, being more connected to their surroundings - I do still enjoy walking on my own (I've had to, with the group walks being shut down for much of the last 15 months!), but being able to share the gems that I have found with other people, and having other people take me to places that I would never have thought of going to on my own, adds a richness to the experience that I really value.

Something that makes me laugh is that people want to go explore the world, yet they have never tried to navigate on foot to the next town etc. Though for some, only when they explore the world, that they actually realise how beautiful their local area is as well.
