Don't give up, it will come to you with practice. You're probably griping too tightly and/or your action is too high, or your strings are too heavy. Any of these things are easy to fix. My "secret" to getting in and out of chords quickly and getting a clean sound is a relaxed fretting hand and a light grip. I rarely get those "string lines" on my fingers but I've also been playing nearly 50 years too.😖 Very hard to get good tone if you have tension in your hands. It will also fatigue you and sometimes even cramp you up. You're playing will advance big time when you can relax and just play...👊🏾
