Too many movies use the trope of a character needing their asthma inhaler or their insulin shots to make it through the movie. It’s a plot crutch the lazy Hollywood writers need to drop.
It's a remake of The Strangers (2008)
the original one was great 👌
So this a bad remake of the 2008 original, which was a very good home invasion horror movie. The director for Chapter 1 claims he didn’t want to do a scene for scene remake, but that’s exactly what he did especially for the final half of the movie. Changing a few details like instead of a friends house it’s an AirBNB does not make it a “reimagining” when the plot is the exact same down to the ending sequence
Saw it yesterday. Literally just a carbon copy of the original 2008 film, just more predictable and less exciting. Literally nothing new brought to the table with this one.
Every one of these movies should have I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany in it. That might make them better 😄
So a remake? Hell no.
It's not a remake. These new ones are supposed to be the "first few murders" that they did "before" the actual first film. But it's all still pointless.
Yay remakes 😅
Yeah, this one didn't really get it done, but I think a lot depends on how long you've been a horror fan.
1) I thought requiring someone to have asthma as a key plot point was over in the 90s. But here we are, making sure the inhaler is front and center at least 3 times if you include the beginning when we're introduced to it.
2) The old cabin was so creaky that the sounds made were kind of front and center at times. You couldn't even lift a but cheek to break wind without at least three floorboards groaning.
Unless you were a Stranger. In THAT case, you move completely silently right up to people and the building doesn't make a sound.
3) The "I know I SHOULD do this as quickly as possible, but let's take another 20 seconds so something can happen that upsets that plan" trope.
That all said, it was done fine. The performances and pretty much everything else were solid. It was just lazy, lacked creativity and as such was kind of insulting.
But that may be because I've seen hundreds of these movies. If you're a horror fan in your early 20s or generally stay away from the genre, you might find this to be very good, so I'll still give it a borderline recommend.
I WILL see the sequels. In for a penny and whatnot. But I don't expect better - just maybe some answers. They were all filmed at the same time, I believe, so there won't be any adjustments made in response to criticism.
Finally, later in the podcast when they're reading shout outs, Chris says there is torture porn in this film. If he's right, then every single horror movie is torture porn. No one was tortured, and I don't know that there were any instances where anyone received more than one blow, cut, etc. MAYBE he's referring to one vehicle being hit by another, repeatedly as "torture," but that still falls way short of "torture porn." This is not "Saw" or "Hostel."
Take care.
So it's just a remake of the original lol
Renny Harlin directed Die Hard 2 (great) The Long Kiss Goodnight (absolute classic xmas action movie) Cutthroat Island (not so great) Nightmare 4 ( one of the better sequels in this franchise) Cliffhanger ( great action movie) Deep Blue Sea(a fun shark movie) The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane, to name just a few.
I'll think about it. Lol
The main dude in this gave soy vibes I was shocked he ate meat.
Oh, he eats meat alright. Why do you think 5 years and no ring?
renny harlin ? cliffhanger deep blue sea 1988 prison (a classic 80s horror movie) the long kiss goodnight die hard 2 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and plenty of bad horror action movies more recently the bricklayer with Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev (from vampire diaries)
I'm an old horror movie collector thousands of movie approxim 2700 of them being horror or related the strangers was not a good movie in the 1st place, hundredS of movies better than it
am zero interested in this
I can't believe they dragged my boy Renny Harlin into this 🤦🏽♂️
By all accounts doesn't do anything that the 2008 original didn't do better. Ballsy Award for thinking it would do well enough to warrant two sequels.
The original was GREAT !!! It came out at a time when we the audience didn't have a real good slasher film since scream.
It was boring and stupid
They're trying so hard to make a franchise out of the first one the second that came out with the family was so bad now theyre trying to make another one? ...smh😂
I didn’t like the original
There’s no way I’m gonna like this one 😂🎉
Ugh..Hollywoke 😴 Just another uninspired rip-off...
Saw it yesterday. Literally just a carbon copy of the original 2008 film, just more predictable and less exciting. Literally nothing new brought to the table with this one. It's like they took the original, sucked all the fun out of it, and put it back into theaters.
To put what is essentially a series in movie theaters is lame as fuck.
The arrogance of putting ‘ chapter 1’ on a title. Already before the get go you’re telling the audience they got homework and must come back to get the whole story.
Fuck that.
Chris pretends he's a hard core horror fan and can't remember what the strangers was about (absolutely fuqin phenomenal by the by) or that is had sequel that also was great. A real fan would has why the fuq is it being remade?! It's was great as it was. Also... We don't need to know more as it waters down th.... Why does this even need to be explained to a "hard core horror fan"?
