Yes. Yes. Yes. This is a story that works BECAUSE it it BL. And it is a plus that it does not have the adult themes or content most BL is known for, including manipulation and rape (no consent).
Usually when they’re darker/sexual like that it’s called yaoi. Bl is a general term, but usually it’s not referring to dark stuff. If you want no sex, then that’s shounen ai.
@@ceton1843 she is refering mainly to BL anime where this no consent trope very often takes place. But in the Manga form it is less comon, that's because there is more of it.
It's so incredibly hard to find a BL that does not include sexual elements and toxic relationships not because I can't handle it, more as it's too overused that healthy good relationships become so rare. Sasaki to Miyano barely has a conflict and I love it to the bits and pieces I can't stop watching and reading, every episode is just me having massive heart attacks and nosebleeds GOSH DARN I LOVE THEM
@@i_i_hope_i_i ya so true, I have to suffer so many BL tropes my favourite one is that there's a woman that is consistently trying to break them apart and then after she is defeated, the Seme(usually) would be so cold to the uke for no reason what so ever and create so many misunderstandings that the uke wants to leave but the Seme would at the same time be very possessive for no apparent reason which give off so many red flags and mix symbols (one such example is silent lover "do not read it") ya and like you said Sasaki to Miyano is just so great because it felt realistic and plausible. Their relationship doesn't feels force but natural it doesn't try to set up the romance first but admiration and then slow transition into romantic feelings. I just really love how Sasaki did confessed early on so that Miyano can have this internal conflict much sooner to get more character development which at this point is a new form of BL because I never even heard of character development in BL other than "tragic backstory". Thank you for typing such a long comment I really appreciate that and I hope you have fun reading my rant anyway I'm probably going to watch the dub for Sasaki to Miyano peace out ✌
@@simi5558 Oh my God Tian guan ci fu is soooo amazing I'm enjoying it so far (only on book 2), um could you recommend any bl that are like very tragic I'm very into that lol
a lot of the more popular bl that are mainstream include toxic relationships, but if you dig deeper, there are a lot of sweet ones that are just pure fluff! you just gotta look at the right place ^^
ye as a bi man, relatable. I fell in love with danmei, it's a huge progress imo and a step in the right direction, but I still have some past trauma from the old gross yaoi I saw as a teen and still am somewhat reluctant to consume Japanese gay series lol. and danmei, it's great, but it isn't perfect and when it comes to healthiness of relationships it can be a miss and sometimes even the overall good authors for some reason just can't let the dub-con or some level of toxicity go... but even with that it usually has a better plot and romance than Western MM books so
Please check out Shounen Ai! I especially recommend the works of Kotetsuko Yamamoto who have an amazing cast of characters. They are pretty healthy relationships and seems more closer to romance genre than Yaoi (Yaoi is generally pretty hardcore usually)
It's actually not that hard....I'll give some recommendations - Hana to Usagi - Any work of Nagisa Furuya is cute (personal favourite is Kimi wa Natsu no Naka) - Any work of Hayakawa Nojiko is great too - Star x Fanboy - My Influencer Boyfriend - Sekai de Ichiban Toui Koi - Two Soul (drama, mystery and suspense) - Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (a new horror manga very gut wrenching) - Until I meet My Husband (autobiography by a gay man) - Faded First Love - Koimonogatari - Hidamari ga Kikoeru Look i am aware there's a lot of bad/sexualised series within bl which I have read but bad stories are allowed to exist too within any media or genre. To say they are the overwhelming majority is a lie though, It is not hard to find cute stories within bl you just gave to ask around or use tags.
@@baizhuwaitingroom7057 God big mood I’ve been burned too many times 💀finding bl that wasn’t uncomfortable was such a war zone that eventually I just gave up on it lol
It's actually common in BL manga that a guy falls for another and when asked if they like guys or girl, the answer is along the lines of "I don't like guys, but I like you". To me, it always seemed a bit weird. That's because there is often no mention of bisexuality, homosexuality or pansexuality, almost as if the topic of not being straight is avoided. Maybe the fujoshis think it's hotter if two straight men have sex than if they're actually attracted and embracing a different orientation and the authors have understood that? Anyways, I like how it's dealt with in Sasaki to Miyano, both characters really think about the fact that is is unusual that while thinking you have an orientation, one person can make you (temporarily?) change your sexual/romantic behavior and attraction
yeah exactly, I've read bl's where the "seme" is like straight but says something along the lines of what you said. it's always the "uke" who's gay, it's odd honestly. it's always the really cliche bl's too.
I think the way this was dealt in Sasaki and Miyano is pretty relatable (tho I haven't watched/read the story). I've never dated anyone so I don't have the confirmation that I 100% for certain, like other girls even though I know for sure I can't get attracted to guys. But I live in a highly conservative environment so I really like these kinds of GL/BL. I think the reason why there's so many stories that does the "I don't like guys/girls, but I like you" thing is a mixture of the "fated soulmate" trope and being in a conformist country. It feels almost natural to be exactly like others that you end up believing that you're 100% straight.
I always thought that Sasaki to Miyano is an example of a diversion of this common trope. Usually, The "Straight guys" fall in love as a kind of only exception to the rule; "I know I'm straight, but I know I only like you", where as this manga feels more like a story about two young boys discovering another form of love. Sasaki and Miyano know they like each other, they are just not sure what this says about them; "I don't know if I'm straight or not, but despite that, I know I like you".
YESSS!! Specially in the manga, where they openly talk about same-sex couples. Because I real life, queer Japanese people exist and they often talk about the variety of struggles they fear. And it's realistic to finally see it being portrayed in a BL (since other mangas have done so already, although not in the genre, such as the manga "Our Dreams At Dusk").
@@FaiaHalo I agree, Our Dreams At Dusk (Shimanami Tasogare) really shows the struggles of being queer. I don't know how similar it is to the reality in Japan, but I feel like it could happen in other countries as well. I don't think a BL talking about social issues would be that popular with the target audience (who is mostly composed of straight japanese women) so they just focus on romance. The only proper BL I've found that talked about a struggle of being gay in a traditional country realistically is "Kekkon suru kamoshirenai otoko" (contains NSFW, you have been warned). It talks about how some gay/bi men will choose to break up with a male partner to get married to a woman to fit in society's expectations, leaving the other man alone. However, the main focus of the story is still romance and NSFW scenes.
On the manga: there is more after the confession scene. A whole volume of chapters after, maybe even a second, I believe. Recently a sequel series covering Sasaki and Miyano in their college years has been confirmed! Preview storyboard concept teases possible development of mutual friend Hirano going through something that he sees Miyano to get his advice.
there's also the side story manga being published right now called Hirano and Kagiura, which has three volumes so far and explores the relationship between Hirano and his roommate, which they sadly didn't mention the name of in the anime, I would say from what has been released that Hirano and Kagiura has a slightly faster pace then Sasaki and Miyano but it's written the same way that makes it feel like it's longer then it actually is, Sasaki and Miyano the anime made me feel like one episode was actually three and the manga gave me that same type of feeling when it came to pacing
yes indeed, I read the manga and it was honestly my first manga. I’m not usually interested into manga much, but this anime brought me happiness, it was my place for fluff. I felt butterflies in my chest, the story, the ship, the adorable relationship, and sasaki’s great personality and his patience it was all so beautiful and I recommend everyone who enjoyed this anime to read the manga! (not forcing tho) because in the manga there are more cute moments and chapters of them dating :))! and many more so if u don’t wanna wait for s2 u can read the manga
Sasaki to Miyano is the healthiest bl (or even one of the healthiest romance pieces in general) anime/manga story we have by far. Sasaki never forced Miyano to do anything and gave him time to think about his confession. He never created unnecessary drama and miscommunication that would get dragged on for the whole story (same goes for Miyano). Miyano didn't rush into the relationship and figured out his thoughts himself. He didn't want to hurt Sasaki's feelings, he thought long and hard about them long term instead of just "trying it out" which is SO important. Their love for each other is real, so well portrayed and it's just so teeth rotting sweet that my grin never went away from my face, no matter how many times i re-read/re-watched it. Not even going to rant about how the side characters are so lovable too because that would take literal days to write. I remember seeing the trailer 2 years ago (maybe even a bit more I can't remember) and i was so excited since it looked really cool, watched it while the episodes were coming out and afterwards read the manga and was blown away by wholesomeness. I just recently got into it AGAIN and i have the same feeling of my heart feeling light and floaty in my chest whenever i think about them.
to be honest this really reminds me of my relationship with my best friend, he changed the way I think and gave me new interests and I have a lot of feelings for him, I often think about being in a relationship with him and i don't know he always makes me feel fuzzy inside. anyways nice video like always!!
I loved this anime very much. They have very healthy friendships and relationships. They consider consent above all and have no toxic anime tropes! Sasaki and miyano is such a gem tbh
This video has convinced me to watch this show. Honestly the way you described it hits very home for me. It sort of embodies exactly the thought process I (a female) had towards my girlfriend when I first met her. Both of us thought we were straight and we bonded over over GL, BL and romance stories in general. She helped me with getting into them similar to how you described what happened between Miyano and Sasaki. Yet here we are XD I'm hoping this show can help me maybe have some new realizations about my feeling and I have hopes it'll find a special place in my heart.
Honestly I am not a big shojo fan anymore but I have watched quite a bit of shojo and BL and I can honestly say this was one of the cutest ones I've ever seen. No big conflict or second leads, just two very attractive characters figuring stuff out alongside their supportive and cool friends. I rlly loved Hirano and That blond guy. I can say I love this anime.
Hey, although this is a fairly new channel, you already have a checklist for good youtuber. Nicely voice recorded, nicely edited, nice humor, good script, and interesting (clickbaity xD) title. Keep up the good work!
I enjoy the manga more. The progression of their relationship feels more natural on that, and the exploration of their character and their relationships is really good. At the first, I thought it's more of slice of life high school manga than the BL. Especially since Miyano explicitly said he doesn't want any BL experience. It's okay, and I enjoy them too. Thought this could be an exploration about BL fanboys and their issues. Then it progressed to love story. And it kinda surprised me a bit. But the mangaka keep their relationship grounded enough that make me believe in them, and to some extent believe that this type of relationship could exist. One thing that I really love about this manga; the manga doesn't depict Miyano as a feminine uke. Sure he has effeminate typical looks for uke. His looks even giving him a source of inner conflict. But over and over again the manga doesn't make him less masculine than Sasaki. It kinda evened the playing field in their relationship. Through his friendship and relationship with Sasaki, Miyano learns to accept his looks. And it's really, really hard to find in BL work. Any BL work. As a manga, this manga is kinda magical. Like when I read 7 Days for the first time. I haven't seen the anime, only snippet here and there, because I don't want them to ruin my experience with this manga. And I might place much higher expectation since I already read the manga. I really don't want to be disappointed like with Given or 7 Days.
As someone who's both read the manga and watched the anime, i think you should give it a try! They did a really amazing job with the anime adaptation and managed to capture the feel of the story really well :D (it's up to you in the end, but I'm just suggesting 🤗)
As a manga reader, I can confidently say Sasaki and Miyano is my favorite manga and anime. I believe the anime did very well, and I loved it. I still prefer the manga because I'm more of a reader, but the anime was lacking in no way!
I love this series so much! I’m so glad other people love it too! My favorite part about it is how respectful the characters are to each other - Miyano gives Sasaki’s confession serious thought, and Sasaki never tries to force himself or his feelings on Miyano. So many romance anime don’t always seem to understand how consent works, and I loved how they approached it here. Have you ever watched “My Sweet Love Story”? It gives off the same super-diabetes vibes, but the confession is really early in, and it’s just adorable. I recommend it!
as someone who is struggling with accepting their sexual orientation I always find myself watching/reading lots of same sex romance anime/webtoon/manga but there are only very few of them that actually convey the struggle within someone in those situations. Sasaki to miyano is an anime I rlly enjoyed, it shows the development of feelings and acceptance in a beautiful yet still realistic way. I love the anime and the manga and am already excited to read it a second time, definitely one of my favourites
exactly. i felt the same way too. and like even tho the author didn't address any sexuality, they still brought to light some issues LGBTQ+ people go true. like the whole confusion, self questioning and things like that.
Holy smokes you gained over 2k subs in under 3 weeks? Damn, looks like the world finally decided to acknowledge your work. I hope it's only a upward trend from now. Great video on Komi! 😁
Sasaki and Miyano is a really good anime adaptation since they captured the sweet, wholesome emotions which I think you have discussed perfectly and so I highly suggest that you also read the manga to get a better view of the development of their relationship. Also, since you liked Sasaki and Miyano, maybe you'll like Umibe no Étranger and I'm curious to hear your thoughts about it. It's a really good slice of life bl film with I guess a slight more serious tone and beautiful animation. Also, not really related here but insta-sub since I watched your Ranking of kings video. Keep making this awesome content! ^^
Sometimes in Anime, I feel like they mistake graditude with love. Like the main character helps out someone, who never had a friend in their life. Sometimes it seems like, just because they became their first best friend, their feelings must be love and not just best friends feelings. I don't mean, that this necessarily has to apply to this Anime. I just hate the fantasy, that you must fall in love with the person who saved you or is closest to you. Especially when you never had such a close friend before.
I used to be a BL/Yaoi/GL/Yuri enjoyer and enthusiast until life overcame me and I had less time to indulge in the hobby.. and I sorta kinda grew out of it. But seeing videos where it goes over fresh animes that I haven't had the chance to know about got me giggling like the little girl I used to be. It felt especially nice coming from a non-female viewer. I really liked your output on it and appreciate that you are open-minded about giving these genres a try!
For me its the best romance/bl anime I watched so far, it will give you some thoughts of "someday me too", and the story is very realistic that makes fans relate to it. They also don't rush the story or let's say "love", like someone confessed to you then you dated then the end, like that, instead Sasaki let miyano think before answering and continue as his Senpai and he didn't make moves that will make miyano uncomfortable. And the my favorite part is when Sasaki said that you supposed to gentle with the person you love, that hit me really hard, and most of the time he said "ill wait", what a man of patience. Overall the anime is very good, it makes me so happy after watching it, the effects make me think like "love is in the air" and it will be a very good recommendation to people you know, or maybe just some of them.
Hey nice video, and I totally agree that it has a good story that only can work with BL, I swear this anime has given me some goosebumps, annnd is the first anime that I don’t skip the Opening, also I think the manga isn’t completed yet so it makes sense it finished with a kiss or sth
I'm thankful for yt god for recommeding your vid to me. Your review was so simple, yet it's almost covering every aspects of the anime so far. Yes, it was a good, refreshing, and wholesome series. For me, it's pretty realistic romantic progress. There are so much things to consider and recognize from both, as they was never in that kind of relationship (same sex) before.
I loved that anime so much it actually hurt. It's also the first that that I have started to read the manga after watching the anime, I've never done this because I just don't have the patience to read something for that long BUT that one changed my mind and I've read everything in a night
Okk not saying anything thing chezzy but You video is absolute great And the way you explain sexuality is amazing bro You don't know what you are into unless you find the right person Whole life you life girl but what if you fall for a boy Amazing explain by you love your video
Even if I've finished "Sasaki and Miyano" your comentry was so chill to watch and also I've noticed more detail in characters behaviour and personality
I've been reading/re-reading the manga for a long time so when the anime got announced I could hardly believe it! I'm glad it's getting some traction There's also an ongoing spin-off with Hirano and his roommate. Edit: it's called "Hirano to Kagiura"
The main downside to this anime that really rustled my jimmies was the coming out scene. It was so atrociously bad I was in tears laughing. Being gay myself, i’ve had to come out a lot and it’s always the most terrifying and emotional experience, especially when i came out to my family. This anime’s portrayal of it felt like it was almost belittling the whole experience: “mom, might wanna give up on grandchildren because, i like guys!” “did you just do a coming out?” (a coming out??) “you’re gay?? me too!! me too!! i think…” … “at least Hanzawa will give me grandchildren. you two can go and be happy.” (there’s also literally her daughter sitting opposite her what) “yaay! you win mum of the year!!” I just feel that with like 5 minutes more research this scene could’ve been a lot more powerful and touching, and also really emphasise why Hanzawa showed so much support and understanding towards Miyano and Sasaki.
I feel like theres a bit more to the scene though, like what if Hanzawa was gay? I got the vibes that he was uncomfortable with the pressure of being the only straight child to a mother that's really only ok with her kids being gay since one of theme is straight and he can have grandchildren for her, thus why he didn't want to be in a relationship. Some families really do have a feel good moment when someone comes out and the brother may have felt comfortable enough to tell his family without being worried everyone is different, but even still it seems there was more going on with that scene and the way hanzawa was acting
i didn't pay much thought in that scene, i actually thought it was funny and silly. but im sorry u felt that way. if that makes u feel better, in the manga miyano's and sasaki's coming out scene is more heartwarming and serious.
I have watched every GOOD anime bl that exists (I'm serious) so imma just like put a list here if u don't mind - given - mo dao zu shi - heaven officials blessing - love stage - Hitorijime my hero - super lovers ( a bit weird but whatever lmao) - doukyuusei - spiritpact - Stranger by the shore - dakaichi (more yaoi but still good) - sk8 the infinity - sekai ichi hatsukoi - junjo romantica - yes ka no ka hanbun ka - DRAMAtical murder - Twittering birds never fly - banana fish - Hyperventilation - tight rope I totally recommend the manga and the novel of mo dao zu shi too
@@JIA001 good list. Just thought i'd give my opinion on it cuz i'm bored Given is an easy must watch I feel like people are missing out on mdzs and tcgf since they just put off watching them since it's in chinese ( but both are so freaking good ) super lovers is pretty weird in some aspects but just watch it ig sk8 the infinty is mostly just subtext but still watch the show since it's great ( watch the dub if you want some more ship teasing + hilarious antics ) banana fish is depressing and also a LOT of subtext personally I didn't like dakaichi cuz of the whole consent problems I had with it doukyuusei and umibe are great ( both are movies )
I definitely recommend reading the manga if you haven’t already. Rather than your typical main story progression kind of story, it’s like a collection of short stories and moments weaved together and it gives you a feeling of natural progression. Every small interaction leads up to a memorably memory and as the reader, you can find yourself understanding and even relating to both characters.
i honestly really love how this series shows their experiences even after the initial get-together. usually, the romance genre only is centered around the characters getting together and ends after they both reach a mutual understanding of their feelings, so i seriously appreciate that they're giving us more than that
One thing i like about this BL anime is that unlike so many BL (especially the older generations) this one didn't involve the old tropes of an aggressive seme and a passive uke, there was no non-con/dub-con, etc. Very wholesome and took it's time
Im ARO, But I do appreciate sasaki to miyano or horimiya! Some characters are relatable, or its Just wholesome, and the fact that the romance actually progresses past the confessiom, and seeing what is done after it. Even If I dont want romance myself its really fun to watch Others!
i love this anime so watch ngl i spent 12 weeks waiting for new episode then cried after watching the last ep cause the development is really so good 😭
man love the way you explained this one infact every one of your videos are wholesome. and this anime is totally new for for me . after your video , i am thinking about giving it a shot. right now , m watching my dress up darling . and waiting for bubble and spy x family
When it announced at Netflix, i immediately pick up the manga...to put it shortly, it's a fluff... Sweet and airy, not much drama happened, nothing out of ordinary. And I LOVE IT, compared to other problematic faves like Dakaichi or Love Stage, or Super Lover.... I will be honest, it could feel like a chore to power through some episodes, because almost nothing happened per episode.... But... Please try to watch the English Dub!!!!!!!!! Very sus, very cute, very camp, very fresh, hhaahhaa
Thanks for telling your impressions of Sasaki and Miyano. I think it does not matter if you are deep into BL-Manga/Anime to understand them. Here we can see a good and new example. Less than liking Anime in general, more important is to be open for these angles/aspects of romance and affection. From my point of view it underlines in a proper way how varied love could actually be and the difficulty of dividing between things like admiration, affection for a friend or romantic feelings. A phenomenon irrespective of which gender someone feel attracted to or sex they has.
so i'm a straight girl. i'm pretty much the target audience for most BL mangas. but the thing is, i probably wouldn't even call it "boy's love" most "BL" manga/anime are just- sex. that's it. just fetish for young, straight teenage girls so they can fantasize about two hot guys straddling. and i hate that kinda shit I like same-sex stories that are realistic by diving deep into how the two MCs feel. in a world that mostly encourages heterosexual relationships, people in the closet who might be in denial usually go "Ew! two boys holding hands and two girls kissing is totally weird!" (trust me, i have some friends in the LGBTQ community and this is exactly how it went before they came out) stories that give depth the the characters and show us what it's like to be someone who is questioning their identity- that kinda stuff. i love it. i love lgbtq fluff
i think most of POPULAR bl mangas and anime are like this. u can find a lot of healthy and well-made stories in the genre, but they're mostly underrated.
I used to not like BL but this anime got me into BL. If anyone have recommendations on BL anime/manga like this please recommend me some! I love the show so much.
if u want something w a similar vibe as sasaki to miyano, i recommend u to read kieta hatsukoi (faded first love). it's funny, great characters and wholesome.
some people perceive this series as the same wholesome-fluffly-tropey-not-that-deep kinda story, but it's so much more than that. the author doesn't address sexualities in the manga, but they didn't ignore it. they actually put effort in portraying the confusion that queer go through when they're questioning themselves by miyano's pov. i also think they made a rly good job in portraying teenagers in this. i remember a scene when miyano asks sasaki if he likes boys and he says something along the lines "no, but im not even sure myself or i don't even understand it" bc he's confused. not every teenager knows their sexuality for sure and this self-discovery path can be very complicated. later on, in the manga, we see more of this. i also love how it addresses toxic masculinity, abt miyano's self image, bc he's uncomfortable w his looks. it's a gem of a story and it actually breaks some stereotypes in the genre
as someone who's read a LOT of bl from multiple genres i just have to agree, one thing that DOES bother is when they pull the "i'm not gay i just like you" card, like it would be nice for the character to have some displays of non-heterosexual throughout their childhood. imo it's more realistic to have character have hints of these feelings throughout their life but they suppress them/never acknowledge them, and then once they meet, THE ONE, they'll slowly come to the realization that they were never heterosexual in the first place. but that's just my two cents tho.
It's kind of implied, but you gotta take the story's setting into the account. In Japan, like most homogen society, we usually lived by 'Don't ask don't tell' type of mindset. With that in mind, unless being already 'in the circle' or deliberately coming out, we won't find out about these non straight couple in close circle of relationships. The only exposure we would get will be through the media and probably knowing like some district(?) houses gay bars and neighborhoods. You also have to take account that Sasaki and Miyano used to be straight who live in conformist society, which also explains "I don't think I'm gay but I like you" thoughts quite realistic given by their background and life experiences because they've never exposed/interact with real non-hetereosexual relationship/couple in their life.
@@reisatsuki5891 okay thank you for your response, it was quite nice and i understand what you mean. japanese culture is very collectivist and against change as you said BUT even then in my eyes, there is a difference between "i say i'm straight because i think i'm supposed to be even if i find other genders attractive" and "hey, i have never had interest in guys at all and now i'm into you." it feels very abrupt and is almost a very cis-het idea of queer folk find love and attraction. sasaki to miyano didn't do it too much and maybe miyano's interest in bl could've been the slightest of subtle indications of his attractions, but i still find this trope quite bothersome. it doesn't have to be a whole sob story but rather an epiphany for the love interests.
🙏 thanks🙏 I clicked on this vid thinking you were going to trash on this show a bit. You didn't 👏💚 you actually put thought into your semi (?) review. Very cool!! Edit; subbed✌️
Wait...they made it a show?? Omg I’m legit rly happy abt this cuz when I red the manga (which I borrowed from a friend) I had such a hard time keeping up lmao
The thing is this anime is very different from your standard anime. It’s a lot more in range with the artistic type films that Japan loves to make. Kind of like Hot Gimmick. The progression is slow and it focuses on the characters’ complex emotions and will put you on an emotional journey as well. I followed it from the first episode and having to wait a whole week for the next episode was pure torture.
Ahhhh I love this anime so much!! It scratched the fluffy bl slice of life itch that I’ve had for years after sifting through so many awful animes. Thankfully this series has no toxicity or non con stuff just pure fluff and I appreciate it so much for that, I wish this show existed when I was questioning my sexuality in middle school it would have made me feel like everything was gonna be ok even if I was gay (oh well at least we had yuri on ice at the time to help lol). ALSO if sasamiya existed back then it would have been like seeing myself in a mirror bc I bonded with my best friend at the time over bl anime and then I eventually realized I liked her 😅 More cute lgbt romance stories like this need to exist!! I can name countless hetero romances but I can count on one hand the amount of good unproblematic lgbt ones, representation is so important for young queer people 😢💗
One thing I love about this series is that even though it is centered around the romance, they dont make a big deal out of it, It just seems like a story of friends finding out their bro is actually dating your friend, just chill. And more importantly, something that even bls i like and have a healthy relationship is that they like, actually sitting down and talk about their opinions, like idk why in romance or relationships in stories in general dont have characters just sit and talk like ayo tis filipino teleserye with the adobe premade transitions? nothing wrong with the drama but sometimes its just so uncalled for it makes you want to stop the story. Something I also really love is that Miyano actually took his time to think, it took him half a year to get an answer, and it took Sasaki half a year of waiting, and it shows how strongly they trust and care for eachothers feelings, gives me diabetes from the sweetness.
I never watched this anime but seeing boys like me who's confused of his sexuality makes me want to watch it, and your review of is so cool and in detail I literally teared up!! Love is love is love and thank you for giving us somewhat an anime with somewhat proper representation of sexuality and love for The Gays (TM)
I gotchu with the definitions! Fujoshi - A girl that likes BL manga Fudanshi - A boy that likes BL manga Seme - The dominant lover in a BL relationship (or any relationship possibly) Uke - The submissive lover in a BL relationship (think of Uke as bottom and Seme as top) Hope this helped for anyone confused! :)
i also love sasaki and miyano cuz unlike other bl/yaois not everyone around them is gay too, funny enough the only other couple rn is straight its so refreshing cuz in literally every other bl everyone else is the story truns out to be into guys too
First time I ever was in touch with a BL manga there was a rape scene in chapter 2, yeah that short cut for me. I think it has the potential to be a solid genre but sadly hypersexualization in what most people write bl in is holding it back. This is quite good though.
Damn that's like my definition of love. I don't really care about what gender u are, I just love u as a human. What's between your legs is irrelevant to me if I love you.
Personally I just love shows/manga where they are joking and talking about the thing it is… like Ouran joking about reverse harems, Kiss Him Not Me with girls obsessed with BL and this with telling and BL story while discussing BL tropes
I feel like this is a annoying trope in BL. Straight guy falls in love with another guy. But doesn't like other guys. I always found this unrealistic. Has anyone ever heard of this happening in real life? If it can I'll shut up.
I think that’s just a popular trope in general, for example toradora a lot of girls like ryuji and only him, you also have rental girlfriend when they all like Kazuya. romance is exaggerated and I think in any context a person falling in love in one person and not liking anyone else isn’t realistic. Realistic romance doesn’t have to be put into practice since it’s just animated media.
It can happen. But that's definitely not a straight guy no more. Common for bisexual people. You might prefer the opposite gender, because that's what you grew up with and you didn't even consider the other option before the right person comes along. It's kind of romantic
I actually dated someone like that, so it can happen! I also had a friend a long time ago that considered herself basically straight with one woman being the exception. It may sound confusing at first, and it's not the most everyday common thing to see for sure, but sexuality isn't so cut and dry that it always falls into very neat boxes :)
Yes. Yes. Yes. This is a story that works BECAUSE it it BL. And it is a plus that it does not have the adult themes or content most BL is known for, including manipulation and rape (no consent).
This!!!
I don't think you have read that many BL but OK.
I like a good romance, doesn't matter if the couple are same sex or not. Love is love, regardless of gender.
I STAN WITH UR COMMENT
I stan this comment.
True
I agree lol
love is love with two consenting adults
It's so incredibly hard to find a BL that does not include sexual elements and toxic relationships not because I can't handle it, more as it's too overused that healthy good relationships become so rare. Sasaki to Miyano barely has a conflict and I love it to the bits and pieces I can't stop watching and reading, every episode is just me having massive heart attacks and nosebleeds GOSH DARN I LOVE THEM
@@i_i_hope_i_i ya so true, I have to suffer so many BL tropes my favourite one is that there's a woman that is consistently trying to break them apart and then after she is defeated, the Seme(usually) would be so cold to the uke for no reason what so ever and create so many misunderstandings that the uke wants to leave but the Seme would at the same time be very possessive for no apparent reason which give off so many red flags and mix symbols (one such example is silent lover "do not read it")
ya and like you said Sasaki to Miyano is just so great because it felt realistic and plausible.

As a gay man finding a good bl with a healthy relationship is so hard to find and so I really liked this series, also just cus I relate alot to miyano
ye as a bi man, relatable. I fell in love with danmei, it's a huge progress imo and a step in the right direction, but I still have some past trauma from the old gross yaoi I saw as a teen and still am somewhat reluctant to consume Japanese gay series lol. and danmei, it's great, but it isn't perfect and when it comes to healthiness of relationships it can be a miss and sometimes even the overall good authors for some reason just can't let the dub-con or some level of toxicity go... but even with that it usually has a better plot and romance than Western MM books so
Given is really good
Please check out Shounen Ai! I especially recommend the works of Kotetsuko Yamamoto who have an amazing cast of characters. They are pretty healthy relationships and seems more closer to romance genre than Yaoi (Yaoi is generally pretty hardcore usually)
It's actually not that hard....I'll give some recommendations
- Hana to Usagi
- Any work of Nagisa Furuya is cute (personal favourite is Kimi wa Natsu no Naka)
- Any work of Hayakawa Nojiko is great too
- Star x Fanboy
- My Influencer Boyfriend
- Sekai de Ichiban Toui Koi
- Two Soul (drama, mystery and suspense)
- Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (a new horror manga very gut wrenching)
- Until I meet My Husband (autobiography by a gay man)
- Faded First Love
- Koimonogatari
- Hidamari ga Kikoeru
Look i am aware there's a lot of bad/sexualised series within bl which I have read but bad stories are allowed to exist too within any media or genre.

@@b3nnefits Or yk, just romance.
Omg that sounds great. I started the manga but I haven't caught up in it yet. I can't wait to read the sequel series when it comes out
WAIT REALLY?? OMFGJOA9Q
there's also the side story manga being published right now called Hirano and Kagiura, which has three volumes so far and explores the relationship between Hirano and his roommate, which they sadly didn't mention the name of in the anime, I would say from what has been released that Hirano and Kagiura has a slightly faster pace then Sasaki and Miyano but it's written the same way that makes it feel like it's longer then it actually is, Sasaki and Miyano the anime made me feel like one episode was actually three and the manga gave me that same type of feeling when it came to pacing
yes indeed, I read the manga and it was honestly my first manga.
@@itzcookie05 OMG YESSS TBH I'M MORE INTERESTED IN HIRANO AND KAGIURA AHAHDGHSH
Aww thats happy to hear :] I am in a relationship with my best friend (we're gay) it can turn out well
Finding Bl with a healthy relationship is hard so i’m actually glad I found this.
Yet here we are XD
I'm hoping this show can help me maybe have some new realizations about my feeling and I have hopes it'll find a special place in my heart.
omg thats crazy it sounds like a very similar situation. I hope you enjoy the anime as much as I did!
Awww what a cute post! I love your little story and I wish u and your gf all the best 💞❤️
As someone who was disappointed with the Given anime, Sasaki to Miyano anime did not disappoint me.
@@TheSetkon what's wrong with given? I rlly liked tht one but didn't read the Manga
What’s wrong with the given anime? I liked it…I especially like the song (but op but the song they play). It’s so good I have it in my playlist

THIS IS NOT JSUT BL , THIS I THE CULMINATION HWO TO WRITE A HEALTHY ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP..SO GOOD
Sometimes in Anime, I feel like they mistake graditude with love.
Agreed

There's also an ongoing spin-off with Hirano and his roommate.
This anime’s portrayal of it felt like it was almost belittling the whole experience:
“mom, might wanna give up on grandchildren because, i like guys!”
“did you just do a coming out?” (a coming out??)
“you’re gay?? me too!! me too!! i think…”
…
“at least Hanzawa will give me grandchildren. you two can go and be happy.” (there’s also literally her daughter sitting opposite her what)
“yaay! you win mum of the year!!”
I just feel that with like 5 minutes more research this scene could’ve been a lot more powerful and touching, and also really emphasise why Hanzawa showed so much support and understanding towards Miyano and Sasaki.
@@abrawolf no that’s so true, but I still think they could’ve done it in a better way
@@abrawolf but hanzawa said he likes girls. maybe he can be bisexual. for some reason i always thought he is asexual, but this is just a hc of mine.

I didn't know this manga had an anime adaptation! Looks like i have to watch it
Woah, I love your perspective. Someone who watch a lot of romance anime is really different..
i honestly really love how this series shows their experiences even after the initial get-together. usually, the romance genre only is centered around the characters getting together and ends after they both reach a mutual understanding of their feelings, so i seriously appreciate that they're giving us more than that
One thing i like about this BL anime is that unlike so many BL (especially the older generations) this one didn't involve the old tropes of an aggressive seme and a passive uke, there was no non-con/dub-con, etc. Very wholesome and took it's time
Im ARO,
But I do appreciate sasaki to miyano or horimiya! Some characters are relatable, or its Just wholesome, and the fact that the romance actually progresses past the confessiom, and seeing what is done after it.

I just read the manga and I agree with everything you talked about it.
Thank you for that
so i'm a straight girl. i'm pretty much the target audience for most BL mangas. but the thing is, i probably wouldn't even call it "boy's love"
most "BL" manga/anime are just- sex. that's it. just fetish for young, straight teenage girls so they can fantasize about two hot guys straddling. and i hate that kinda shit
I like same-sex stories that are realistic by diving deep into how the two MCs feel. in a world that mostly encourages heterosexual relationships, people in the closet who might be in denial usually go "Ew! two boys holding hands and two girls kissing is totally weird!" (trust me, i have some friends in the LGBTQ community and this is exactly how it went before they came out)
stories that give depth the the characters and show us what it's like to be someone who is questioning their identity- that kinda stuff. i love it. i love lgbtq fluff
i think most of POPULAR bl mangas and anime are like this. u can find a lot of healthy and well-made stories in the genre, but they're mostly underrated.
I started reading the manga three years ago and it's so cute istg
I used to not like BL but this anime got me into BL. If anyone have recommendations on BL anime/manga like this please recommend me some! I love the show so much.
You should watch "Given"! There's also an OVA and a movie for it now... hmm... "Stranger By The Shore" is also a really great one
Heavens official blessing and Mo dao zu shi
if u want something w a similar vibe as sasaki to miyano, i recommend u to read kieta hatsukoi (faded first love). it's funny, great characters and wholesome.
some people perceive this series as the same wholesome-fluffly-tropey-not-that-deep kinda story, but it's so much more than that. the author doesn't address sexualities in the manga, but they didn't ignore it. they actually put effort in portraying the confusion that queer go through when they're questioning themselves by miyano's pov. i also think they made a rly good job in portraying teenagers in this. i remember a scene when miyano asks sasaki if he likes boys and he says something along the lines "no, but im not even sure myself or i don't even understand it" bc he's confused. not every teenager knows their sexuality for sure and this self-discovery path can be very complicated. later on, in the manga, we see more of this.
i also love how it addresses toxic masculinity, abt miyano's self image, bc he's uncomfortable w his looks. it's a gem of a story and it actually breaks some stereotypes in the genre
as someone who's read a LOT of bl from multiple genres i just have to agree, one thing that DOES bother is when they pull the "i'm not gay i just like you" card, like it would be nice for the character to have some displays of non-heterosexual throughout their childhood. imo it's more realistic to have character have hints of these feelings throughout their life but they suppress them/never acknowledge them, and then once they meet, THE ONE, they'll slowly come to the realization that they were never heterosexual in the first place. but that's just my two cents tho.
@@reisatsuki5891 okay thank you for your response, it was quite nice and i understand what you mean. japanese culture is very collectivist and against change as you said BUT even then in my eyes, there is a difference between "i say i'm straight because i think i'm supposed to be even if i find other genders attractive" and "hey, i have never had interest in guys at all and now i'm into you." it feels very abrupt and is almost a very cis-het idea of queer folk find love and attraction. sasaki to miyano didn't do it too much and maybe miyano's interest in bl could've been the slightest of subtle indications of his attractions, but i still find this trope quite bothersome. it doesn't have to be a whole sob story but rather an epiphany for the love interests.
stopped watching this halfway though, went and watched it, came back.
11/10 great show.
Okay, you've convinced me! I'll watch it!
because of u im gonna go watch this anime. this is gonna be my first time watching bl so wish me luck, im kinda nervous
I hope you like the anime!
🙏 thanks🙏 I clicked on this vid thinking you were going to trash on this show a bit. You didn't 👏💚 you actually put thought into your semi (?) review. Very cool!!
Edit; subbed✌️
They really confessed at ep 5 and fell in love at ep 12 😭
The Manga so far is at Miyano's last year of High School. I'm glad the Manga continues it on and doesn't just stop after Sasaki graduates.
I’ve watched it five times in three weeks lol love it
I just realized that hirano has been their way of phone communication through the hole series from the first episode
I’m now a big fan of this anime bc of this video
ALSO if sasamiya existed back then it would have been like seeing myself in a mirror bc I bonded with my best friend at the time over bl anime and then I eventually realized I liked her 😅
More cute lgbt romance stories like this need to exist!! I can name countless hetero romances but I can count on one hand the amount of good unproblematic lgbt ones, representation is so important for young queer people 😢💗
I think you should try Given! I love that series very much >< I don't wanna spoil much but the plot is great for me.
*happy gay noises*
No one but me my first ever BL series is sasaki and miyano and I continue watching and reading more different types of boylove
i love how this video has a meme💀- (tbh im still waiting for sasaki to miyano s2,)
YEP the perfect reasons why I wonder sometimes .. why bl romance feels different to me! ... its because some feelings will not work if it's not bl
Like i already cried from happiness when i watched the anime...
Now u explained it so frighin well i ended up bawling again ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽❤🌈🌈
I never watched this anime but seeing boys like me who's confused of his sexuality makes me want to watch it, and your review of is so cool and in detail I literally teared up!! Love is love is love and thank you for giving us somewhat an anime with somewhat proper representation of sexuality and love for The Gays (TM)
Love your video ❤
Thank you!
"My teeth was starting to rot" lmao
I want to watch this so badly now!
OMG SAYONARA WILD HEARTS MUSIC
Sasaki to miyano is a topnotch anime
I gotchu with the definitions!
Fujoshi - A girl that likes BL manga
Fudanshi - A boy that likes BL manga
Seme - The dominant lover in a BL relationship (or any relationship possibly)
Uke - The submissive lover in a BL relationship
(think of Uke as bottom and Seme as top)
Hope this helped for anyone confused! :)
i also love sasaki and miyano cuz unlike other bl/yaois not everyone around them is gay too, funny enough the only other couple rn is straight its so refreshing cuz in literally every other bl everyone else is the story truns out to be into guys too
I bingewatched and bingeread it, its such an amazing story and i just-ADORE IT SO MUCHB6HZN
i love this anime so much😭😭
First time I ever was in touch with a BL manga there was a rape scene in chapter 2, yeah that short cut for me. I think it has the potential to be a solid genre but sadly hypersexualization in what most people write bl in is holding it back. This is quite good though.
I don't really like Bl manga and anime as a lot of them are kind of fetishy, but this, this is wholesome.
Tbh I'm not really a fan of Bl I'm more of a gl fan but this anime looks interesting so imma try checking it out
That’s fair I’m also not the biggest BL viewer but this one managed to hook me so I wanted to talk about it.
@@theproutbrothers1055 I will definitely check it out sometime soon! ^^
season 2 hype bb
I wanna rewatch season 1 now lol
Pls the given manga just randomly popping up on the screen😭😭
I think Its common for that happen no? Like thats a way to you discover that you are not straight?
It can happen. But that's definitely not a straight guy no more. Common for bisexual people. You might prefer the opposite gender, because that's what you grew up with and you didn't even consider the other option before the right person comes along. It's kind of romantic
Ya its stupid. Its a way that authors can avoid actually tackling lgbt issues
