- Our Lakehouse project was done in phases, with Phase 1 giving the front yard a much needed face lift!
Watch Darren Tubito, owner of Auburn Sky Landscaping, as he walks us through this amazing renovation - tackling issues like wall retaining and erosion, drainage, while creating a pea gravel sitting area flanked with techobloc steps (leading to the walkway in Phase 2). They used native shrubs and plants which the homeowners and butterflies will enjoy for seasons to come.

With the slope of the terrain, I expect it would be impossible to lay down a weed barrier. So how do you recommend keeping this low-maintenance for the owner? I'd expect there would be a lot of weeds sprouting among the boulders in the mulch. Looks terrific, btw!
Hi, @sethjohnson4513. Thanks very much for your comment and compliment! We use weed barrier under decorative stones. We, personally, don't use weed barrier under mulch because, as the mulch breaks down over time, it creates its own growing layer, so if that's on top of a barrier, you've now got weeds growing on top of weed mat and you're fighting to pull the weeds out of that. And this particular client enjoys being out in the yard doing yard maintenance and so is committed to removing any weeds that might pop up throughout the seasons. I need some advice
What is it supposed to mean? It is meant to be some kind of alluvial deposit? The crazy thing is, one owner does it, sells their property a couple of years later, the next owner decides to follow a different fad, like decking or sleepers, and pulls it all out again. I'm having a hard time "get" rockeries unless they have some kind of environmental purpose for nature. Measure the amount of resources or eco footprint required to put all of that in place.
