Should i buy one ? Kubota U10-3 mini excavator

- Hi all and welcome back, apologies for the lack of videos, ive not had a great deal going on recently.
Today we are on a job where a friend of a friend asked if i could operate a micro excavator inside a house to dig a floor out which i was happy to help out.
I will admit that the little Kubota micro digger is certainly a lot nicer than my Chinese Mini excavator. If possible id like to put a 3 cylinder in mine and i will keep an eye out for a used 3 cylinder engine and see if i can do a retro fit into mine.

Hi Samuel, I could agree with you there. The machine was a pleasure to operate. Only thing I noticed compared to mine was the kubota didn't have a lot of hydraulic pressure power like my Chinese mini digger. I tried to lift the machine up and spin on the tracks and it couldn't do that. It did lift the machine via blade and boom to lift tracks up but not on the tracks to allow it to spin. Not sure if that was a safety control thing.

A little late here but I’m in the market for a tiny excavator for basement work - are you saying the Chinese excavator is actually better than the Kubota? What model? Gas or diesel? How are the controls and overall comfort compared to the Kubota? I’m considering getting the u10 + scl1000 for solo basement excavation projects. Keep up the good work!
Great one Nick the little diggers get a lot of use where I live because builders used shale in the floors which expands and blows the internal floors up its cost millions up here to replace full floors

im fully aware of the shale issues, right where i live some houses have shale as hardcore too, actually the house next door had their kitchen floor took up and redone properly.
These little micro machines are ideal for such task though.
Yes red diesel is what we used to use until they banned forecourt sales in the UK for plant machinery in April this year.

It was a lovely little machine and I'll be honest was nicer to operate than mine. However the operating pressure of the hydraulics was fairly low and found mine were maybe a bit more powerful.

Definitely get the Kubota. I have a 1.5 China mini. But when it came time for the engine, told them to keep that Koop junk and put in a Kubota. I want a D722. Said no can do. We can though, put in a Kubota D902. Told her Sold. Great engine and like you said, way quiter. Money well spent. You will not regret that money for a Kubota.
Hey Doug and thank you for commenting. Unfortunately it was my biggest regret but at the time I was oblivious to other engine configurations. I wish all the time for a Kubota engine but it is what it is buddy. I will have to get rid of it and buy a proper excavator eh 😄

Kubota diggers are great quality! You would love buying one.
I bought a Chinese 1.2T rhino digger and it was good but not great. Ended up selling it and saving up for a Kubota u25. After renting a couple of kubotas it’s the way to go,
With what you said about not having the digging power what hire places so here in Australia is turn the pump pressures down so they don’t get damaged or abused by people, perhaps they have done the same with that rental one

I agree, the 1t or 1.2t machines have their limitations as does all styles of machines.
I think the same as you friend, I believe they have turned the pump down some to save future breakdowns due to people miss using the machines.

What a capable machine. One day, I want a mini, but where I am at they are ridiculous expensive, even the worn out ones. Talking $30,000 and up for used. If I could I would have a Deere, Cat or Kubota. Wouldn't touch a Komatsu as I have seen too many things fail on them.
Hey Oby-1, these machines are super capable and so handy to have as a tool. They are expensive and its sickening the price of them. How are people supposed to try a business and require a mini excavator to fulfil that job role.
Ive not looked too much into branded machines so im unaware of the problems that come with Komatsu excavators.
Oby, you might want to look at real world service histories of various brands and base your opinion on facts and if you get a used Deere mini-ex they were made for them by Komatsu up until recently when Whacker-Neuson won the bid on the new contract to produce 1.7-7.5 ton minis.
I wouldn't bother fitting a better engine in the digger you have. Sure it'll probably fit and you might even get it to operate but by the time you spend all the money/time on the engine, cooling system, bell housing adapter, possibly new pump, hydraulics, engine mounts and electrical system, you could have flipped it as is and bought a decent chyna digger with a kubota already in it.
I have a Haihong 1.2t which has pilot controls, d722 kubota 3 cylinder, twin hydraulic pumps, integrated hydraulic oil cooler, expanding tracks, 180 degree swing boom, 2 metre digging depth, internally hidden hydraulic pipes in the boom, square auger drive and proper attachments for $22k Australian. It has been very handy and performs like a kubota u17 for ability.

I get what your saying regarding a donor engine swap and I appreciate your advice. I too think it would be a bit of work also, however i was thinking if an engine came already complete with radiator and hydraulic pump and everything else, it would just be a case of fitting and fabricating. I am also thinking the same about selling and spending a touch more maybe on a used one and perhaps do the repairs necessary.
I know there are models of the Chinese mini exs that are very good and can be quite easily compared to known brands. Again like it's been said by other viewers that you get what you pay for. Mine has done a lot of work and continues working so all is well.

U10 3 excellent machine bought one for similar job. But I would say if your doing it correctly you should be putting a limecrete floor in with geocell insulation underneath and NO dpm as all you are gonna do is push damp up those walls Which look like clay lump to me. Otherwise good job.

I must admit it certainly was nicer to operate than my Chinese imported mini ex.
To be honest I'm not doing the job of the floors so I couldn't comment on the process that they will do. I kind of agree with you, the specs call for 100mm kingspan foam insulation then 150mm hardcore type 1 compacted. Then 100mm of concrete. Clay is what we always build on in 99% of cases.

Fair enough. It's a shame architects and bc are not more sympathetic with the older buildings .I nearly bought a Chinese digger and was advised it so bought a 6 year old u10 which was not cheap but should get my money back once finished with it.
@@jonbryant9352 your not wrong with building control and architects being on the same page, some old buildings require older techniques to maintain the buildings integrity.
I understand your reason, the chinese machines are hit and miss so its each to their own on that one. The U10 was a really nice machine no doubt, but the cost difference is crazy. You certainly will get your money back no issue.

@@everydaywithmenick it was a sany sy18c and a very good machine, you can buy the 3 cylinder engines to fit yours and they also do a 2 cylinder kabota engine witch is supposed to be brilliant and very good on diesel 👍🏻look on eBay for a kabota engine there’s loads on I seen one for £700

@@bigcheese6652 Ive heard them Sany machines are pretty decent too. I need something that is water cooled for the reduction in noise and also a smooth operation. I will have a look but id only know more how much room i have once the engine is removed from the machine i have. Thank you buddy 👍
I did and it paid for itself very quickly…..I can go where I didn’t even dream of going before which where it pays for itself..
Not a bad mini ex i've used the one and half ton before found it pretty decent well until i nearly tipped it over 😂😂
That is very easy to do if the terrain is funky 😄 but yes, really was a smooth machine.

Is there another door to allow the ex enter the room?
No sir, the only door I entered through was the front door. Luckily that's why this machine was hired because the tracks can expand and retract. I didn't get footage of it coming through the door.

Your better off just buying a used U10-3 rather than messing with the engine in yours, Sill nowhere as good as my 3t Komatsu - but I am biased 🤣
Just spent a couple of weeks operating a Yanmar Vio-17 on a job to small for my Komatsu and I could not agree more.
Hey buddy 👋 I kind of agree however when I started looking at prices some used U10-3 with 1500 hours plus on them were still 6 to 10k. That's still ridiculous. If I had bought that machine I was on, I would have to spend maybe 300 or 400 extra on all pins and bushings. They were sloppy and had play in them.
I bet the bigger machine is nicer, one day I'll get to operate one 😁
@@carlspackler5013 I agree that the branded machines are nicer, however I can't comment on how the Chinese 3 cylinder machines are. I've not had chance to operate a Yanmar excavator yet.
@@everydaywithmenick Sorry If I gave the wrong impression, I was just stating my love of Komatsu over the other branded machines. I love what you are doing and the little China digger, so much so that I am looking at getting a 1.5 ton China digger of my own for hard to access areas and foundation drainage. I'd like to operate a 3 cylinder mini excavator to see how they compare now I've used a branded machine. The 1.5t machines are super handy and at least they can be towed around with minimal fuss unlike the larger machines that need lowboys or dedicated towing rigs.

It would have been nice but for a few wheel barrow trips, the cost of a conveyor wouldn't justify it.
