2024 UMD Meteorological Buoy Deployment

  • John and I were fortunate to be invited along for the deployment of the University of Minnesota-Duluth buoys. As paddlers we find the data provided by these buoys invaluable, following the monitored conditions nearly daily.
    In addition to the deployment of 2 buoys, the crew retrieved 2 submerged scientific buoys that were deployed last fall.
    The morning was beautiful and we were lucky to return to the dock as a big NW wind blew in, it would have been great for a downwind. An informative and enjoyable cruise!

    Honestly the best part of this to me is you capturing the surfacing of the winter mooring. Just brilliant

      Yes, that was a favorite of mine too. Wish I hadn’t of just missed the second one surface.
