Well done. I expect you realise now its easier to put the hive under the swarm rather than walking to and fro with a bucket of bees. I’ve got two traps up now, scouts are looking. Generally catch one every year. Fingers crossed.

I learnt a lot last year..... Still an amusing video to look back on. I caught my first swarm of 2022 recently so the very best of luck with your traps.

well done on catching your first swarm, have you checked for varroa ? its now an ideal time to treat before there is any sealed brood

I treated by vaping them on about day 10 or 11 which was the earliest I could get all the kit together. I've checked a few times since & haven't seen any sign of dead mites on the white board below the hive (no idea what it''s called!) so I think it's all clear.

First time, well done. You will get a lot better at it.
You have a full suit on, trust it, no need to run away though I can understand why you would
Have the hive right under the swarm makes life easier.
Once the bees show signs of entering and fanning at the door there is no need to go further, they will go in of their own accord as the queen is in there.
We'll done, It is a great hobby. Keep up with the good work.
If you want to share the experience we are relative newbees too. March Hare Apiary on fbook for our adventure which is much like yours.

Thanks Mark - it's gotten a lot easier & I do trust the suit now. My two sons are taking an interest and do a hive inspection each at the weekend. They find it (as do I) fascinating to see this complete ecosystem in a box. I'll look you up on Facebook later.
