Its nice to hear someone else critiquing the lack of game modes, that's something that has really turned me off from playing smash bros a lot since Smash 4
The game modes were half the reason I got into smash to begin with. Yeah the multiplayer was fun but stuff like board the platforms, break the targets and melee's adventure mode covered a lot of my playtime in these games and I find it sad that they've sort of just dumped that.
I'm a fire emblem fan, and I agree that Smash has too many Fire Emblem characters, but I still wanted Byleth, because Fire Emblem Three Houses is my favorite game of all time. My problem with Fire Emblem representation in Smash is that some of the character choices are really dumb. Lucina, a character who makes a brief appearance in part one of Fire Emblem Awakening, and only starts to really matter in part 2, is in alongside the two main characters of the game, who are in it from the prologue. And then there's Corrin, who is from what is agreed to be by most fans one of the worst games in the series, and not only that, but is also one of the worst characters in that game, so why are they here? Oh because he was added before the game came out. People outside of the Fire Emblem fandom might justify Corrin because "she's unique since she turns into a dragon" but that's not why a character should be chosen. Every other character makes sense. Marth was from the first game. The Radient games and Three houses are some of the best games in the series with some of the most iconic characters. Awakening is the game that basically revived the franchise, but it already has two perfectly fine characters. Roy is a stretch, but he's a veteran and incredibly popular among Smash fans that it doesn't make sense to get rid of him. That's why I think the ideal FE representation in Smash would be 6 characters, one of which is an echo. Marth, Roy, Ike, Robin, Chrom, and Byleth.
Honestly I'd cut Roy and Chrom. We could get more unique fighters to better represent the series like Anna, Tiki, Hector, Lyn, Caeda, Ephraim, or Miciah
I agree Lyn deserves to be in over Roy, but Lyn didn’t even exist when Melee came out. Brawl’s the earliest possible moment where she could’ve been added. I think your FE Roster is great, however I would replace Roy and Chrom for more unique characters.
I won't deny it, I saw this video in my recommended bar and the title made me wince, just a bit. But after giving it a watch...... just, damn. It was incredibly refreshing to hear some well thought out criticisms on this game that I hadn't ever given much thought to. You make some very valid points on all of this, the characters especially. I still get flashbacks to the war in the live chat during Byleth's reveal.
@@Jdudec367 pretty crazy bro, when i saw blyteh being shwon my firat thought "niggas are gonna be salty af" and they were. It started with the salt and people calling them salty, bunch of people spammed hoes mad and some fought back aganist it, it was so toxic i.closed the chat. After some decided to dislike it and started calling people who liked the byleth a bot even though the game was very successful to the point it won 2 game award. People started a hoes mad movement and attscking people with slightest dissagreement. Bro it was crazy and pretty trash from both sides espically from thoses trying to remove sakurai because of it.
i disagree. a lot of his complaints made no sense and the absolute trash opinions like "smash 4 had better single player" and "brawl is more ultimate then ultimate" makes the video as a whole just bad.
Really great video, I especially agree on that last point you made. I really wish people would stop shutting down criticism because all I ever see is people complaining on both sides of the spectrum instead of engaging in interesting discussions and speculation (especially with new additions to the roster).
It one thing to be a grow up whit criticism it another to be a spoil brat whit criticism. Most of people act like kids whit there criticism by saying things like who ask for this character? Just because you didn't ask for this character don't mean other people are not asking for the characters. It stuff like that is why we have hoes mad.
It's too bad the community harassed us Shantae fans when we did nothing wrong and just wanted her as a fighter and we protected Sakurai from the death threats and yet he didn't see her as good enough to be a real fighter and the Smash community took it WAY too far! I quit Smash because of it! Smash Ultimate isn't even that good. There is a saying that Vegito from DBZ said that fits this scenario "It's quality not quantity my friend" Ultimate has the quantity but lacks quality like the other Smash games had. It's really sad.
10:10 to 10:25 I can't stress this enough. Smash on top of being a great game on it's own, is also possibly the best form of advertising when it comes to video games. Melee introduced me to a lot of Nintendo series which when I was a kid only knew about the big 4 (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby). I learned about Metroid, F-Zero, Earthbound, Fire Emblem, even retro games like Ice Climbers and the Game and Watch collection of toys. I even learned about games like Custom Robo through the in-game trophies. Brawl introduced me to Kid Icarus and Metal Gear Solid (I only ever owned Nintendo consoles and an Xbox 360), and Smash 4 got me into Punch Out. Before Ultimate I knew next to nothing about KoF or the NeoGeo, and despite not liking Hero as a character I learned about Dragon Quest's importance in the gaming industry. I don't think I've ever seen a better example of marketing games than a character cameo in Smash.
@@ChiefMedicPururu it definitely could've worked. Didn't even have to be a "save the world" story. We could've had the fighters split into groups and gotten smaller, well-thought out stories exploring character dynamics and unique settings. A crossover's greatest strength is seeing different worlds interact and this game had a golden opportunity to really embrace that
@@Mal-go5dl Yes, but creating those cutscenes certain require MORE development time. Meaning that other stuff would have to be cut/sacrificed in order to make that possible within a deadline. That's how that works.
@@ChiefMedicPururu Brawl did it over 10 years ago so I dont see why we can't have more content in a sequel today. But let's say they can't make many cutscenes, some artwork and text boxes alone could do wonders
I loved trophies. I used to go through and read all of the information about them. It was like a Nintendopedia. And I still think Subspace Emissary is one of the best stories ever told in a Nintendo game. The novelty of seeing all your favorite characters together in top of the line CG cutscenes was cool, but the cutscenes themselves were super effective at what they were trying to do and they did it all without saying a single word.
@@Antonio-is2cn uhh... fanservice? like what the guy just wrote about? actually, the gameplay of it can definitely be improved, along with more multiplayer mechanics. seriously... why would anyone NOT want another pve smash experience like subspace again? especially if it was possible to make it better from the first? guess we'll never know because singleplayer smash has gone downhill after brawl.
Not to mention how lots of the older characters have uninspired movesets that haven't changed since melee. Sonic's music tracks are more inspired than his moves.
@@ivrydice0954 yeah but afaik the difference between sonic and sephiroth is that that old game that sephiroth's moves are based on are from a fighting game that's less then a decade old and it doesn't have any newer games that proceed it to take inspiration from called dissidia nt Sonic on the other hand has most of his moves taken from a game that is almost 3 decades old by now called sonic the fighters in spite the fact that when brawl was out sonic battle was only 4 then and had a much better moveset that would work really well for smash and was much loved by a decent portion of the sonic fandom
@@spiritpyros I'm not referring to Dissidia. I'm talking about Ehrgiez: Certain moves like Sephiroth Jab, Down smash, and others can be found here: ruclips.net/video/AggfjBNTnHM/видео.html
I couldn’t agree with you more, especially your point about “Daddy Sakurai.” Super Smash Bros. is a product, not a gift, and I don’t owe Sakurai in particular, or Nintendo in general, *anything.* If they make what I like, I’ll spend money on it. If they don’t, I won’t. I don’t have to be “grateful” to McDonald’s for the food I buy from them, especially if I don’t like a new menu item, and I don’t have to be “grateful” to media companies either.
I despise the "Daddy Sakurai" thing. What was once a cute little nickname made by Etika (rest in peace) has turned into a phrase used to shut people up and make them look like they've wronged Sakurai and should be ashamed. These people should be ashamed for ruining Etika's most popular phrase (aside from "MEWTWO"). Before Etika went through the downward spiral that lead to his unfortunate demise, I remember saying, loud and clear, "I never want to hear the words "Daddy Sakurai" come out of anyone's mouth but Etika's", and it disheartens me that the OPPOSITE happened only a matter of time after I said that. The Smash Bros. fanbase has more respect for people who go out of their way to SPOIL Sakurai's hard work and effort through leaks than they do people who say they want some character the Smash fanbase feels like picking on, especially Waluigi.
@@mystbs6612 Waluigi's been shafted throughout the years but him as a smash fighter would open the door for possibly mario party like movesets and/or assist trophies as fighters
I feel the opposite about waluigi, he was actually so fucking forced and he just doesn’t deserve the spot compared to any of the other big Indy game characters. Waluigi just doesn’t have a lot unique about him.
MarienneSapphire Simpson I’ve always had that thought in my head. I remember back during smash 4 I would imagine how the stage would play out and thought I was a genius because I came up with it all by myself. Little did naive little me know, literally everyone had the same stage idea
Like literally almost any Sonic level besides Green Hill and Green Hill with Windmills would've been tight. Like Chemical Plant. I know Green Hill kinda had to be one, and I also get why Windy Hill Zone got chosen in Smash 4, but it makes me so mad seeing the same aesthetic for both Sonic stages. It just reminds me of the state of the Sonic series right now, we can't escape from Green Hill
@@UltimateTS64 >Chemical Plant I know that's you, SEGA. In all seriousness, something more akin to one of Eggbotnik's bases would be an excellent fit for a Sonic stage. Maybe even the Death Egg itself, being both an iconic location from the classic games, and a somewhat regular feature in current-day ones.
I completely agree whit disliking the whole daddy sakurai mindset I feel like a extremely small yet vocal part of the fan base like to harass those who have different opinions. It almost makes you not want to have an opinion in fear of being bashed to death for having one. You dont like a character "hoes mad" "you ungrateful bastard" having a different opinion or a different perspective on something doesn't make you entitled like these people claim. Whenever a new character is announced I see people making these outrageous claims about hate on the character before anyone says anything about said character. These people are just toxic and have a mindset of just shut up and take it which doesn't make sense to me considering I see more people complaining about the people complaining than there is actual people complaining! Always cherry picking the extreme examples to nullify any criticism and unfortunately this has created a toxic image for the smash community leading to the moniker other fan bases give to community being "nintendrones" which I dont agree is true at all but only is reinforced by a community that creates more problems than there actually is. It Is okay to HAVE an opinion wether its criticism or praise, something the smash community fails to accept which is just the sad reality.
The problem is they want characters who everyone is getting hype to be in the game. When it not a character most people are not hype for make the roster they act ugly and disrespectful by posting things like nobody ask for this character. Which has lead to hoes mad being a thing now. What they don't understand is this is not about hype. And it not like smash bros need hype to sell the game anyway. Some if these characters they want in the game just for bragging rights or make stupid memes about them. Chances are they won't play or use the characters much once they make the roster. If anything the characters most are not hyping up to be in the game yet making the roster is what make things more interesting. I was more excited over daisy being in smash over ridley. She been mess over and over look by Nintendo for years that I thought she would never make the roster. It was a dream come true when she made the roster and it turn her fans are the reason she made the cut. And I have no problem whit ridley making the cut either. It that I was not shock cause I had a feeling he was gonna make the roster soon or later. Once he made the roster not too many people care much about him now. Goes to shows hype don't mean nothing if people don't play the characters who on the main roster.
A troubled servant of the gods seeks revenge against the deity that fooled him into murdering his family. A young farmboy meets a mentor, rescues a princess & joins a rebellion against an empire. A blue hedgehog and his friends need to save civilization from an ancient embodiment of chaos. Hmm, I dunno. I think your criteria for a story (or adventure) is kinda flawed.
The Smash Bros fan community has done a lot to harm my perception of the series. The way mobs of people form group think has absolutely obliterated my interested in even having discussions with people about the series. Responses to my long, thought-out explanations of my grievances and concerns about various aspects of Smash Ultimate with a generic "you're just a hater, we all like the things you're complaining about and you're just bringing everyone down" rhetoric is the same sort of treatment from "fellow fans" that led Pokemon Alpha Sapphire to be my final entry in the Pokemon franchise, and is why I've been getting very close to outright hating the Sonic franchise in the 3 years since the disappointment that was Sonic Forces. My takeaway from this problem is simply stated, but I'll never find a concise way to efficiently explain: the internet was a mistake. Today, people's voices (er, words they've posted to the web) are more prominent and reach more people than ever before, and companies now address criticism/demands but sometimes for the wrong reasons (and in Sega's case, almost exclusively all the wrong reasons). Studios are now more and more scared to take risks or trust their own instincts, because as countless opinions are just a click away these days, instead they may overcorrect and completely remove (rather than refine or rework) not-entirely-bad aspects in future games when fans complain and end up playing things safe, which can sometimes yield a less-enjoyable experience than even past bad games **cough*SonicForces*cough** Games on their own aren't what's turned me into a jaded, cynical gamer who is disappointed with almost every game. It's the internet, witnessing mobs that all come together to try to turn once highly subjective points into societally-agreed-upon objective points, in critical cases like "werehog bad", or in apologist cases like "hoes mad" and how these quotes echo and ripple through the industry, eventually acknowledged by critics and journalists, and coming right back to the very people who make these games, who wind up directly making changes (or not changing what should be changed) that I dislike on the basis of the most vocal groups instead of just having their own vision fully realized. If it weren't for the internet allowing people to find other people who have the same positive or negative opinion as each other and amplify the group's opinion through an echo chamber to the point that it starts to sound like mass consensus (even if the masses don't agree with the group's sentiment) because their voices have become the loudest of the material's audience, I feel like the Sonic series wouldn't be in a second dark age right now, and Piranha Plant wouldn't have been in Smash Ultimate (and even if Sakurai did still add Plant, he wouldn't be receiving half the harassment he's received) TL;DR - the internet has ruined entertainment media for me
Yeah like when we Shantae fans supported Smash regardless of her not being playable and defended Sakurai when he got the death threats about Byleth in Smash. And sadly when she got turned into a costume for a Mii it felt like it was a big middle finger because Shantae deserved to be a real fighter and it's like Nintendo said she isn't good enough. It broke a lot of our hearts then. It feels like Nintendo forced Sakurai to deconfirm said characters. And worst thing is the Smash fanbase rubbed it in and harassed us Shantae fans to the point where they told us to kill ourselves. It's a big reason why I quit Smash as a whole and won't support the games anymore.
@@smg4reblooperd182 In a way... yeah. Mods for backporting some characters from Sm4sh and Ultimate are still being developed, though some are done/mostly finished. Brawl with mods doesn't have "everyone"... YET. although I still prefer modded brawl to an extent lol (rip legacyxp)
Eh, difference in priorities I guess. For me Smash was mainly about mashing different flavors of action figures together, and as the games have gone on I feel like the characters themselves have done good at being action figures. It feels like I'm matching Simon Belmont up against Sonic, not like I'm plying a fighting game character with their aesthetic on top. Also, while personally I can get being disappointed for newcomers, I usually look at it in the respect that someone out there probably appreciates a given newcomer that I don't want that much more than I do. I'm not a big Banjo fan, but I don't really feel like it's my place to say, "I wanted Sol Badguy instead," when so many people love Banjo. Does that apply to every character? No. But the ones it doesn't, well, I feel like they're the exception more than the rule. Plant was less an instance of trolling to me and it felt more like the dev team just wanted to do something really bizarre and unorthodox. Again, probably would've wanted someone like Kazuma Kiryu instead, and this time without the safety net of any real demand from anyone else, but at the same time I kinda admire that willingness to get really creative. Maybe it's the difference between a half-empty half-full perspective. Like I said, Smash for me is about mashing action figures together, and those action figures to me have only gotten more refined as time goes on, even if every now and again I have to put up with their weird quirks. In that respect, Ultimate really is ultimate to me. And while I do really respect Sakurai's work, and would also defend the game on what I believe its merits to be, I don't think those two necessarily have to be intertwined. I have massive respect for him, and I do believe he puts a lot of effort into what he does (seriously, the guy worked through Tendonitis) and I believe that you can make a case for him on the basis of that effort. But I also know that he's not the only guy working on this game, and that stuff can be messy. Stuff like the timing of Xenoblade versus Fire Emblem's release, like, I don't really think they're trying to hide anything there, they were under no real pressure to give an excuse for Rex not being included anyway. Maybe it's just devotion clouding my perspective. Anyway, you're valid, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I can live with someone not seeing the things I do in Ultimate. Nothing is made for everyone, but I guess Smash Ultimate was made for me. That and I was fine with World of Light I guess. I play Smash to fight so fighting a lot doesn't really bother me. But I can't really fault anyone for having different priorities so, hey, you do you buddy. P.S. Except on the music, we got 50 SNK tracks and no other Smash game can attest to that. Checkmate.
I totally agree with you. I have 200 hours in the game and I barely play online (I kinda suck competitivly, but that's another story). I just like to...play the game? It's that strange? Even when I'm listening to music or doing absolutely nothing, Il like to do some matches in the meantime. And I love playing characters just for the sake of imaging epic battles between the, and this is the spirit of smash bros, and not the "I'm the biggest video game all star competitive fighting game". It's not meant to represent all gaming franchises coherently with their sales/popularity. Also, because I'm pretty young I have zero memories of king k rook, ridley, banjo, Terry, etc. So I was happy they were in the game, but overall pretty indifferent regards their "finally making in". I love how they play, but that's another factor. To be honest, the character I'm most excited of my whole smash waiting experience is... The chrarachter from arms! It's the only game of the ultimate fighters I've played before their announcement, and now I can comprehend the "hype" of the character you want finally making in. Pps: the music and stages can't be complained about. Yes, there are a few new stages, but if you see how much they improved the older ones they're basically new stages for me.
I have that exact same sentiment when it comes to new characters. Incineroar was literally the character I wanted most for Ultimate (*still* low key reeling from that one, since it was the first time my top pick made it in, lol), but I totally understand that not everyone else was hyped about it, especially with the timing and circumstances surrounding his reveal. Though I felt happy with any character beforehand since I knew someone out there had to have had it as their top pick, the Incineroar situation especially amplified that empathy since that was probably one of the least well-received reveals up to that point. I couldn't even imagine what it was like for anyone who's top pick was Byleth (and I know they exist because I have seen many of them online) because the outcry over that was probably the worst it has ever been. I just hate when people get mad over a new character. Like, it's ok to be disappointed, but some people just take it way too far.
@@INFERNO95 Specially with Geno, even though he has a strong fanbase of people wanting him In the game,he's probably one the most obscure Third Party characters there Is(more so than Banjo),specially coming from Square Enix.
The effort this guy puts in to defend his opinion from childish people, Sakurai worshippers, and people that don’t pay attention to the video, is amazing. Even when people try to find any excuse they can to use against you, You really are not backing down against anybody. I hope you can change the Smash community forever.
@@IcyDiamond its not that its just its insane how he changed all of his ideals of smash for the fans, also people defend Jim alot bc of the toxic casual players don't stfu about how sakurai should die bc he added a really unique character who wasn't even broken no one worships him😂
That was well worth the wait, so many well backed arguments and just like Splatoon and SoM, was so cathartic to see. As usual, I got some good laughs, especially that "For $20" bit, had to pause to let it out for a bit. Keep it up man, it's so amazing to see your hard work paying off with this much recognition you're getting. I hate smash.
I understand all your criticisms and agree with a majority of them, though I would argue that Isabelle fits better into the catagory of "meaningful and gets people to pick up the game based on their inclusion alone or is a part of gaming history" better than a character like Rex for example. Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises (Nintendo's 10th best-selling franchise in fact and that's not counting New Horizons), only increasing in popularity and sales figures with New Horizons' release, with New Leaf selling more in 2 months in Japan alone than Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did worldwide in a year and a half. With that in mind, Isabelle has become one of the franchise mascots after her first appearance back in 2012 (making her one of Nintendo's biggest gaming icons of the 2010s), appearing in every main-line and spin-off title since her debut to such a substantial degree that she's on every single game's cover. Given how much representation every other major Nintendo franchise has (including less successful franchises like Star Fox and Fire Emblem having much more representation) I think Isabelle was a great choice for both giving more credit to a hugely beloved franchise and for adding a recognisable character that would even appeal to those who weren't familiar with Smash, something I don't think a character like Rex would have accomplished. To sum up, while Isabelle wasn't as highly requested as Ridley or King K. Rool in the Smash community, I'd still consider her a big addition in the same vein albeit for a different audience. By which I mean, while a character like King K. Rool is a huge addition to Smash veterans and those nostalgic for the Donkey Kong series, Isabelle was just as huge of an addition to casual gamers and the wider market - a lot more than Villager given his very design took away from his appeal/recognisability due to being an intentionally blank slate and fully customisable character in the main-line Animal Crossing games. I can agree that the execution of Isabelle's moveset could have been better but I would dispute the claim she was a bad inclusion by concept alone.
Everything you say is... absolutely correct. Again, I have no issue with her being in the game at all, but I suppose I was just underwhelmed by her announcement at the time. It's made the deal it is in this video predominantly by the combination of it and Incineroar/Piranha Plant.
Antimatterstudios That’s fair, Piranha Plant is one of my favourite characters to play. I was more just clarifying why Isabelle was a worthy addition to the roster.
"I think it's genuinely not funny to write people off as ravenous beasts who are just pissed because their favorite character didn't get in" PREACH 👏 IT 👏
Plant was added because they wanted a funny unexpected character... Jeb lied then again he lies a lot and acts like his opinion is fact so he can fuck off
It's not to disrespect his work, but I really hope this is Sakurai's last game. He's done a lot, but I'd love a new vision for the franchise. Get a fighting game dev on board, get directors from different gaming franchises to monitor representation, etc. I just think Smash could use a fresh start. Sure use Ultimate as a base but go wild with it
I don't think it's disrespectful at all. I love Sakurai's work on Kid Icarus Uprising! I feel like the guy has a ton of cool ideas, if anything, Smash is kind of a tether to that.
To be honest, I feel like Sakurai showed a ton of bias in who he picked to be put in smash (and he did confirm that he has the final say on who gets in, which contradicts what he tried to say after the Byleth reveal but whatever). 9 of the 11 DLC characters were from the same 2 genres, which just so happen to be the same genres that Sakurai has made abundantly clear that he loves more than any other. Even Steve was a character that he clearly didn’t want to put in the game. I would absolutely like to see someone else take over. Sakurai had the basis of something good here, but ruined it by putting too much of an emphasis on his own bias and not enough on fleshing out the rest of the game.
Ultimate needed an extra year to have that extra polish. While I respect all the work that Sakurai and his team put in, and I enjoy the game for what little time they had, there’s too many minor problems that prevent this game from being my favorite in the series (that goes to Brawl). The buffer system feels off, World of Light is atrociously tedious, online is abysmal, and we lost so many side modes in favor of spirits. I prefer the trophy system. They feel more valuable. The lack of a true successor to Subspace really felt lacking in both Smash 4 and Ultimate. I was disappointed that so many characters were still assist trophies, especially Shadow. The DLC Pass was okay. I didn’t really care about any franchise represented in it except Fire Emblem, ironically. The worst part of this game is the fanbase. “Don’t criticize Papa Sakurai because he put all that work into it! You’re just ungrateful!” This mindset holds up until it comes to Fire Emblem, in which it becomes, “OMG ANOTHER FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTER WTF SAKURAI” and “Haha anime swordsman bad”. People need to realize and allow the criticism of this game and be level-headed about it. I like this game a lot, but it has too many issues to gloss over.
I have to disagree a bit. I mean I grew up on Melee and Brawl and wow I love Brawl. Brawl is a fascinating experience from masterpiece to trophies to subspace but it's weird to compare it to ultimate. I just feel like you saying that it needs more polish and then saying that the buffering system is weird when you say Brawl is your favorite (with tripping and all) is just a little rough. I personally think that ultimate is perfect for what it's going for and I think that is being an ultimate 64 not an ultimate brawl if that makes sense.
What I meant by more polish is by adding the older modes that were removed, adding trophies, an actual adventure mode, and music for underrepresented franchises. I’m not too fond of the buffer system, but that doesn’t mean that Brawl’s system didn’t have problems. A lot of the things that hooked me from Brawl is lost in this game, not the tripping mechanics. I like Ultimate for what it is, but it could have had so much from what made the franchise special.
@@LucasMBoysOurRoy but that really isn't polish? That's whole new aspects which would be rough to develop. I honestly do agree that it isn't quite what I'd think of when I hear ultimate but nevertheless I enjoy it. So here's the question, if you had to pick trophies or new adventure mode?
That’s why I wish that Ultimate had an extra year of development time instead of releasing on the second year of the Switch. It feels like an incomplete product when compared to the other Smash installments. It’s not an unfinished game by any means, it just lacks a lot of older content. That’s what I mean by polish. Also I don’t remember my attacks consistently not connecting in Brawl or Smash 4. That needs polish. I’d pick to save adventure mode, but the problem is that we have neither.
BoysOurRoy /// Lucas M I feel Nintendo launched the switch too early. Had they waited a few more months some titles could’ve been pushed back allowing for a more consistent schedule. Plus it might've prevented Joycon drift
I really love Smash Ultimate alot, but I gotta be brutally honest, part of me feels like this game was rushed in development due to the lack of content this game has outside of the playable characters & stages, especially during launch. No trophy collection, no break the targets, no stage builder, no home-run contest, no Event Mode etc. Yeah I know Stage Builder & Homerun contest were later added into a patch, but that also tells me even more signs that the game was rushed in development due to adding in two features that should've been in the base game in the first place. Again I love this game, I really do, but rushing a game out for the holidays is a big no-no for me.
@@RockinRay-dp6zx I get it.. my big issue with banjo is it creates artificial difficulty by taking away the amount of jiggies to unlock a world I rlly don’t like when collectsthons do that imo
At this point in the series, everyone is gonna get disappointed no matter what. Not to say that as an excuse for Ultimate’s flaws, because it has many of them, but that players value different things in Smash. Not everybody is gonna get the character they want, and if only the fan requested characters got in then speculation just wouldn’t be as fun. Piranha Plant was honestly a breath of fresh air just because it showed the unpredictability of characters. Sure, it wasn’t the character people wanted, but on that topic, people who want all these third party characters need to be reminded that this is a Nintendo game at the end of the day, and that third party characters are guests. Aside from characters, people who value Smash for its competitive nature won’t care much for the other modes in the long run after they play it once, and people who value Smash for its content could care less about balancing. Not to say that there aren’t people who care about both though, because I’m sure there are just as many of them. At the end of the day, there’s only so much that can be done to meet all these demands and I think Ultimate does well enough to accomplish the middle ground of all these demands. If Ultimate played like Melee but cut a lot of these modes out then it truly would be the Ultimate Smash game in the eyes of the competitive players, but possibly the worst one to the other side of the community. On the other hand, if Ultimate played like Brawl but kept all of the modes Brawl had and then some, with WoL being an actual sequel of Subspace, then Ultimate would be the Ultimate Smash game to those who value it for its content, but would be another crappy Smash game to competitive players. Of course, that’s not to say that Ultimate couldn’t do a better job at pleasing both crowds or those who are part of both, as the online is garbage, the game buffer feels off, and the long loading times are a bummer, among the other issues presented in this video, but all in all, considering what Ultimate was going for, I still feel Ultimate deserved its title. Loved the video, don’t agree with everything of course, but each point was well backed up. Agree to disagree to whoever reads this.
It should Just be called Super Smash Bros. Decent. It isn't amazing compared to the others. It also isn't horrible. It's an okay title. As a competitive player tho, this game is straight ass ngl.
I always liked melee the best and brawl as a close second cuz if my childhood. I think what made them both good is the contents they had. Melee more for it's fast place gameplay but I could always restart both games and have fun in the single player. Since smash 4 It just doesn't feel the same. All I can do in 4 and Ultimate is just play online which is horrible and lvl 9 CPU matches. It just doesn't hit
Just came to respond that I personally think at this point that calling some of the third parties guests characters isn't exactly correct. After all Sonic has had perfect attendance since he first debuted in the series. And Capcom is so easy to work with that Megaman and the Street fighter duo are probably permanent additions too. And with Bayonetta and Joker also being Sega characters I don't particularly see them being removed in the future if Sonic stays because it just makes sense to keep all three Sega characters together. (It also helps that Bayonetta is treated as a first party Nintendo character despite being owned by Sega)
Before I go on a small tangent. I like what you've said and you have great valid points about ultimate. Also note that I agree with you on these notions and that I can't say what hasn't already been said from your video. Now all i'm about to say is...thank god someone who has more subscribers said that the 'daddy sakurai' and the culture around 'hoes mad' is not funny to you because it is absolutely not funny to me. I find it annoying and disrespectful in my opinion and if I were to make a video on such a topic I most likely would not have made it as calm as you did mostly because it is like bullying...=v='. Anyway this was a great video to me. Hope u have a good one dude.
Aidan Monner understandable. ‘s just the context of hoes mad but also the people who take their opinions too far. Only other reason why I hate the culture is because it just invokes more anger which makes the counter culture of “stop hoes mad” people or folks who shit on people who say hoes mad. It becomes a big circle jerk. I don’t mind byleth despite me having criticisms about their debut. I don’t mind hero, terry, nor banjo neither. For me, it’s contextual. Only reason I did not like byleth was because the first dlc’s were 3rd parties and byleth being a first party was an issue to me. I did not care that byleth got in because of Fire emblem, i only had an issue because it seems off to put in a character that was released in 2019. Das rly it. No hate on the character themselves, just the context. I do wish the hoes mad would stop but I also wish the reason for the unneeded hate itself was not used because X character got in and not Y. Etc etc.
And now that the dlc is done, I’m left feeling rather hollow with ultimate. You have this MASSIVE roster, but nothing to do with them. No real substantial single player so there’s no joy in seeing Sora run through hyrule or Steve beating up octolings, there’s not even a “remix” mode that shuffles the spirits with post-launch spirits on the map.
the only dlc needed was to add an actual story mode/more gameplay modes. there was never a need to bloat the game with even more (terribly balanced) characters. smash ultimate wasn't meant to be a huge celebration of itself and the franchises within it, it was just another easy attempt at milking money out of people losing their minds over questionable character inclusions.
@@autocorrect5456 I wouldn’t even care about a story mode. Just an adventure mode in the vein of melees would’ve been nice. I would’ve settled for a smash run port ffs. But nothing of the sort. No adventure mode, no smash run, not even a real classic mode. Shit, now that all the dlc has wrapped up now now it should be the perfect time to bring back all-star classic mode, maybe even include mii costumes for the hell of it. Nope. Shits almost as bare bones as vanilla MVC3.
Sonic is poorly represented in smash ultimate more than any other character . He only has 2 stages one of which being an uninspired crappy clone of Green Hill zone Like you mentioned in your video, while mega man got 17 remixes in ultimate, Sonic had none of that since brawl which is already more than a decade old this year. And despite Castlevania being a third party game franchise, not only did Richter get announced as another Castlevania rep, but Dracula is also one of the bosses in WoL. Tails who is Sonic's best friend could have made a great Sonic rep but ended being just a useless spirit while Eggman who is also an iconic video game villain could have made a great boss but got reduced to a mere spirit And to top it all, Sonic's movesets really suck. It is like his movesets got designed by a 10 yrs old who only played Sonic 06.Despite all this much time, his movesets remained the same At the end I feal Nintendo really hates Sonic and his franchise
What did you expect from a franchise that’s shit nowadays? Sonic had been through hell in past shitty decade, but now it gets even more retarded when the shitty movie comes out and ruins my beloved blue hedgehog and his villain, people comparing him to a certain black dude’s death and are saying stupid shit like *blue lives matter,* and stupid sonic fanboys falling for those trash articles always talking shit about sonic. My point is, sonic has been to hell a lot since 2010, if there’s nothing to make him actually good again in his own franchise, then why do we deserve to have him with better movesets, to have one of his friends or eggman being playable, to have a stage that ain’t green hill or a shitty clone of it, and more music (whether it be original music or remixes)?
@@calebproductions1264 Because representation shouldn't be about biases. I thought part of the pride in smash was about its history in its characters and franchises. No matter what you think of him and his franchise, Sonic should be getting so much more representation through his move set, stages, and music. Hes not only one of the few to go toe-to-toe with Mario, but also the first to do so. He's still iconic with a dedicated following, so to just ignore the problem because you think his games have gone to shit is stupid. Imagine if Incineroar had shit representation in smash because Gens 7 and 8 have been lacking. It would be just as bad, but I guess it'd be ok because of those biases.
@Proton the only representation sonic’s getting is people banning him and sonic mains from online tournaments cause of his movesets working well in those shitty internet battles, to where people get so pissed off and want him gone for life. Besides, Nintendo and sega are butt buddies now, the whole point of sonic being in Brawl was cause of his rivalry against Mario back then, but 4 and now Ultimate have killed that rivalry, making sonic completely pointless to be in the newer games.
Thank you!! Although to be fair Sonic only has a bad moveset because he was rushed into Brawl basically last second. That's no excuse for why they couldnt redesign him for Ultimate, but I dont think they have ever had a total overhaul of a character before. They did replace a few of his spindash moves with other attacks like punches and kicks. Punches and kicks aren't necessarily better, but its not true that his moveset has remained completely the same. I really just hope they redesign him for the next smash game
I think the main problem with the roster and the DLC, is that as you mentioned, people make expectations and criteria as to who and why should be included like "I hope the newcomers would be more meaningful" "I want someone that represents a new franchise" "the newcomers should be icons of gaming history", etc.. In other words, people set themselves up for disappointment without accepting the fact that Nintendo is just doing things primarily for profit, that doesn't mean they don't care about the games they make or that the developers, don't put passion into them, but rather that smash is as much a giant commercial as it is a celebration of gaming and gaming history. All that said, there's nothing wrong with having expectations or thinking that such and such character should be included because they're important, or that X character shouldn't be here because they don't deserve it, etc. I just think people get too defensive about things that boil down to personal preference.
We Shantae fans just wanted her playable and the Smash community harassed us since the fighter's ballot and most of those being bayo mains and steve fans and when Steve got into Smash and Shantae got deconfirmed they took it a step further and rubbed it in our faces even telling us to end our own lives! They said "It's better than nothing" I said "The same was said about Mighty No 9"
My biggest issue with the roster, specifically the DLC, is that there’s almost no variety in it. 6 of the 11 characters were from RPGs. 6. That’s absurd, especially when the shooter genre (a genre that is more popular worldwide than RPGs) has only gotten a single character in the entirety of smash, and it’s from a first party team-based shooter that’s only kinda sorta popular in the grand scheme of things. Furthermore, another 3 of the DLC characters are from Fighting games. That’s 9 of the 11 characters that are from the same 2 genres, genres that Sakurai has pretty clearly shown his bias towards. Hell, he actively didn’t want to add Steve and only did so because he was goaded into it. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect that the game that was marketed as some sort of “celebration of gaming” has a little more variety in its inclusions. I sincerely think that Sakurai failed in his vision to make the “ultimate” smash bros, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was only because he felt like adding his own favorite characters and not ones that he knew would please a wider portion of the fanbase. Byleth in particular I felt particularly insulted by, as Sakurai made it abundantly clear that he knew it would annoy his fans and yet he chose to do it anyway and lie about how it was Nintendos choice (something he’d contradict just a few months later).
Yeah they almost certainly could have added sone shooter representation They having fucking doom guy as a skin just upgrade him he’s far more impactful on gaming that a lot of other reps they have There’s a reason first person shooters were once called doom clones
There is no Kirby Dreamland 3 representation whatsoever. No Hyper Zone 1 and 2, No Kirby 64 boss theme nor Miracle Matter, Not much of anything for Kirby as a whole ironically
No kirby stages from the newer games No Dark matter trilogy or Modern remixes. Heck the boss is from Super star,A Sakurai made game. I could complain about movesets but honestly that's only really Kirby and all of the original twelve have this problem.
12:40-12:51 So what you're saying is that the arguement of characters games being announced after a Smash game has its development started makes that character not allowed to be in Smash as a playable character is a bullshit lie. I'm glad to now be informed of this
"It really feels to me like one big popularity contest now, or something like that. It's no longer just the big names getting more stuff than the rest, no, it feels like they get almost all of it. And that's not enjoyable to me no matter what you say." That, and what you said about Brawl is exactly how I feel about Smash and now and how I feel about Ultimate being called Ultimate being a completely bullshit title. I still think that Brawl is the best Smash game because of how much ground it broke in important new stuff but also took the time to actually fucking balance its representation in every way. Everyone got a healthy amount of focus that really shook the potential for lesser money making franchises to get more stuff. And then Smash 4 comes out and all those hopes are dashed. And Ultimate comes out with its fancy "oooo look at how much stuff we have" gimmick and those hopes are dashed once again when its all just fluff and more of the same for shit that already has enough.
This is exactly the kind of nitpicky video about Smash that I've been longing to see. In all seriousness, I was hesitant to watch this at first. Of course I didn't think it'd be vitriolic hatred, but Ii think deep down I was worried about watching one of my favorite games being scrutinized. It was that feeling that made me push through and evaluate your points thoroughly. Although I don't agree with some of the things you find issue with (I personally *adore* Piranha Plant), I cannot deny I completely agree with you on mostly everything else. The "story" mode, while having some very creative locales inspired by particular series, is lacking in exploration and unique combat variety. the implementation of Spirits (while welcome) feels like both a creative endeavor and a surprisingly painful lack of effort. The supplementary modes can be fun, but are also dulled down by virtue of the extended cast creating monotony. Single player content like Target Smash, Event Mode, and random Classic Mode that are not present in this entry are sorely missed. The music... *oh god, the music.* The imbalance in franchise representation through music is both baffling and truly sad. Long gone are unique and random remixes like Flat Zone and Gritzy Desert, only to be replaced with remixes of songs redone twice before (I'm looking at you Mario). Though I absolutely love the Delfino Plaza remix with every fiber of my being, and a whole lot more too, I think I would like it even better if *every* series received some equivalent banger, instead of feeling like simple afterthoughts. And I *100%* agree with the victory themes! Not only are they some not new, but they've all been sped up and some are even butchered in the process! I suppose I've just ended up reiterating points and venting, haven't I? To put it simply, I love this game and have enjoyed it immensely, but the implication that it has everything and is the 'Ultimate' experience is a naive notion. Sure, everyone is here, but besides that, what can truly be offered that past entries excel at instead?
The difference between the antidote and the poison is the dose. The two opposite sides of a character release is annoying. But then again, here I am bitching about them in the middle. The only thing I have to say is, Sakurai needs to step away from Smash and focus on creating something else. Man's a workaholic, I don't think the rabid opinion of the people are doing him good. He also seems jaded at this point. And personally, I would like a major Kirby game release on par with Mario Odyssey or BoTW
Ironically Sakurai left the Kirby series because he was sick of sequels. Yet he was pretty much blackmailed into developing Brawl. Nintendo announced it at E3 2005 as a title for the revolution. They contacted Sakurai afterwards saying if he didn’t work on it they’d just port Melee with online and widescreen as the only additions
I don't agree with everything you said about Smash Ultimate itself but holy shit I feel what you said about the "Daddy Sakurai" mentality... Honestly this isn't just an issue with Smash Bros but Nintendo in general where fans will let them get away with shit any other company would be roasted for just because they made games they like, Metroid Dread especially has spawned some pretty toxic supporters like the backlash Kotaku received over their emulation article.
this kinda makes me want a "brawltimate" mod that puts all the singleplayer content from brawl into ultimate with its giant roster and better gameplay. that would be a ton of fun
ahbeef Seconded. It’d be absolutely criminal to have this kind of a roster, but no platforming Adventure to use them with. I’m holding out some faint hope that the “pretty much” last mode of game actually isn’t so, but if there really is nothing beyond Home Run Contest, then it’d be nice if at least the modders came through for us.
@@YamatoFukkatsu Imagine a 30 - 40$ DLC with a huge adventure mode that has cutscenes, voice acting, and platforming levels. Maby even some hidden characters in it too. I can dream😪
The only good moment he had in Brawl, he was only recognizable in that game cause the shitty *YoUre ToO sLoW* meme, years later his games become shit along with the fact that his terrible fanbase is, and I don’t say this word that much because of the many butthurts I don’t wanna deal with (but fuck it the sonic fanbase always gets pissed off over stupid shit all the time anyways), autistic, greedy (as much as this other terrible fanbase), and meme the living shit out of him a lot. So yeah sonic had his cool moments in 1991-2009, but nowadays you just see him as a fucking joke and just want him to be bought by another big video game company that can actually do a better job at making sonic games than sega nowadays and their stupid fans (Square Enix or sony interactive entertainment), or just have the franchise die so it doesn’t have to suffer anymore.
For me, Ultimate went a little too heavy on the roster, and ignored a lot of the other content found in other games. Plus, World of Light is the epitome of filler. Why did they think 12 hours of boring same-y event matches was a good idea?
Honestly I don't think they even went that hard on the roster. So many characters are clones/semi-clones or have boring, outdated movesets that don't properly represent thier personality and series. There's a baffling range of quality to the movesets, from copy paste Links to the crazy RNG shenanigans of Hero.
I agree with you so much on the music segment It makes me wish sakurai didnt let the composers remix whatever they want. I know that sounds messed up but it ends up just being annoying when Castlevania, a NEW FRANCHISE, gets more music than some of the Nintendo owned franchises in the game.
It still triggers me that Nintendo never made a, pardon the the pun, "Ultimate" Game and Watch Gallery. That includes every single Game and Watch game with Classic and Modern versions. Many of these games haven't been re-released and it's hard to preserve these old LCD games.
Yeah, that's my main problem with the game. A lack of substantial single-player content and modes. Spirits/WoL are only fun for so long, and the lack of descriptions for Spirits (which seems like something they absolutely could've incorporated) is extremely disappointing and lessens their value greatly in my eyes. What's also ESPECIALLY irritating is that many of the spirit fights are clever in concept, but there's no way to refight them ever (unless you hope and pray to RNJesus that they show up on the Spirit Board again, or replay WoL to the point where you can refight them ONCE). That seems like a massive oversight, because half (more like 90% tbh) of what Spirits are is their fights, due to not representing their franchises other than by...existing.
I love you dude, the masses react to gripes with sickening indifference. "You take what you can get" or, "That's just the way it is" is repeated so often nowadays with a lot of things but I say keep caring, it hits a note with me. I respect your passion way beyond what I can convey with words.
In which side of the community? The smash community as a whole is quite immense, online and offline scenes are vastly different, Casual and Competitive scenes also have their own set of quirks.
Yeah Zero and Esam already reacted to a video that also criticized smash ultimate (although that video was from a competitive standpoint compared to this video that was mostly from a casual standpoint outside of lightly mentioning the competitive scene and competitive play in general), so this is possible
@@kingbill8155 I wrote that comment right before when ZeRo said that he was on a content drought. So I was hoping for someone sending him this video( I don't have Twitter, so I couldn't do it myself). Atleast he reacted to a similar kind of video, but it was only about the competitive scene like you said. So I still think this video deserves attention from him.
Exactly, all I hear about the Smash community is people complaining about the ungrateful people (don't get me wrong, the ungrateful people are very obnoxious) but the ones praising Sakurai like a god, shitting on people who was respectably disappointed about a character slot, and shutting down criticism about the game are even worse. Yet, I rarely see people talking about these people.
I feel that if "Hoes Mad" discourages someone from being disappointed in a character then hoes were indeed mad. I've sung hoes mad to myself so many times because it was true... I was salty. I was mad... No matter what someone is always gonna be disappointed in a character-- it's inevitable. That however doesn't mean they're not allowed to be mad/ disappointed. I will say however the party poopers deserve a clean "hoes mad" when they just wanna call others Nintendo shills for being excited.
@DarkSonic180 so because someone's opinion differs from yours they're a shill? I don't know about that one. I feel like this is exactly what was talked about in the video but on the opposite side of the coin. Hell yeah I wanted literally anything but a Fire Emblem character, but that's what we've got. However my feelings don't speak for everyone. Some people are loving Byleth and their moveset is interesting even if I suck with that particular playstyle. I *never* believed in Banjo Kazooie making it to Smash but by golly was I happy for my friends and all the fans. I wanted Shadow and Hoes (me. I'm hoes) was MAD back in September. There are healthier ways to voice your displeasure with Smash, and personal insults are not the way. Jeb did it the best way. By creating his space to voice his feelings, and while I don't feel the same about some sentiments no one is necessarily right or wrong in most of the points here. I probably have a lot more to say, but at that point it's not even in relation to your comment lol. tl;dr It's ok to like/dislike smash things. What's not ok is coming at those who disagree.
Screw it. Let's talk about Byleth and planning for games. I'm sure Byleth was in the cards for a long ass time and Rex just *wasn't*. He wasn't planned and Nintendo sure as hell wasn't pushing for him. Thing is. I believe a LOT of consumers don't like the truth for an answer and we have to get "his game wasn't out yet so we couldn't develop for him" lip-service to please the crowd looking for an answer when it's pretty clear they either rejected the idea or didn't plan on him being a fighter until it was late in development and tried to patch that with the classic Mii Fighter band-aid. As much as I'd appreciate the truth from Nintendo I fear that the actual toxic fans in the community would react in an abysmal manner.
i definetly agree with the last part about "daddy sakurai" as a metal gear fan who is aware that these games are the result of a team's work, and not an indie game made by one person and published by a japanese conglomerate. i also agree with brawl being the best in the series, even though people in the melee competitive scene would either laugh or kick my ass if i said that in front of them. that being said, i have to admit that im more bummed out over knuckles not being playable instead of shadow, maybe it's because im much more emotionally attached to the first adventure game. but regardless, im pretty happy terry got in as a fan of classic arcade fighters, at least i get to have some fun with another character that's known for fisting.. .... that was awful im so sorry...
Hey, if you’re into modding Project + for Brawl came out a while ago, it includes Knuckles, I know it not Ultimate, or official... But I hope you’ll like the news, and if you already know I hope you like the mod...! Have a nice day...!
yeah i heard of it, if my computer was able to run dolphin i would have tried to emulate and mod brawl, unfortunately it doesn't so i had to conform with super smash flash 2. my computer's dead now so if i get another one with a better operating system i'll give it a try. thank you, have a nice day too plagued frost!
Rough Stinker Man me too, Knuckles was literally my dream pick for Ultimate. Considering that Knuckles is the best brawler in the Sonic series and has such an extensive moveset he could really be such a cool character if they implemented him right. Unfortunately, I just get the feeling Sakurai and his team don’t give a shit about Sonic, like at all.
ChiefMedicPururu I don’t think so. Of course I can’t say for sure because I’m not within the company, but I’m almost 100% sure that if Sakurai requested a Sonic character from Sega that they’d agree without a doubt. They literally have no reason not to, more Sonic representation only benefits them in the long run.
With Etika leaving prematurely, with the Smash community gutted by the outing of so many predators and groomers and with the pandemic specially becoming a wrench to Nintendo's development, Smash sure seems like it has lose tons of momentum and importance, there are still characters to be announced but there is simply no hype around it anymore, it's as if the entire internet got burned out of Smash
Personally, I love the inclusion of Piranha Plant. Not in the "haha sakurai trolled u goooooood" mentality. I just love oddball choices, as they can be just as unexpected and surprising as Joker or Terry. Ultimate's base newcomer roster lacked some oddballs, despite the fact that Smash Bros always added in those kinda oddball characters like Mr Game & Watch and Wii Fit Trainer since Melee. Piranha Plant, being a regular enemy character, a stationary one at that, fits right there with the oddball choices, and honestly, after three entries that had at least one oddball added, it would feel a bit weird to not have an oddball somewhere. It's what adds to the fun of it all. And to be fair, Piranha Plant DOES have a legacy, being one of the most recognizable Mario enemies of the entire franchise. Though, you can argue that Super Mario already has a lot of fighters in the roster, and certain characters deserve being in there over Piranha Plant.
G&W is one of the first videogame characters, apparently being older than Mario. Wii Fit Trainer represents a new IP that actually sold hella well and a new peripheral. Piranha Plant is a GENERIC ENEMY that isn't even close to being Mario's most popular enemy (Goombas, Koopas, Boo, Hammer Bros, all of which were playable in Mario spinoffs while P Plant was ever just an obstacle). Don't even compare this trash to a Retro Icon and Wii Fit Trainer, who actually have good reason to be playable. There's WAY better oddballs to put in. Just look over at Brawl's main adversary, the Primid. Sure, it's a generic enemy, but it's a SMASH ORIGINAL generic enemy. That would've been a more valid oddball that a damn plant that ISN'T named Petey.
@@Mal-go5dl The main enemy you fight throughout the Subspace Emissary and a Smash Original character with like 6-7 forms ranging from simple Giant and Metal versions to ones with weapons that had different attacks as a result. If you don't know what a Primid is, you're just telling us you never played Brawl and probably aren't even a Smash fan at all. Either way, Piranha was a terrible character pick, and if they wanted a joke character, even the Primid would've been a better pick since it'd at least be a Smash Bros. series rep joining the roster.
@@espurrseyes42 I know what a Primid is, they're just so unremarkable as a character choice. PP is recognizable and wacky. Primids are as bland as you can get in terms of gameplay and character design
@@Mal-go5dl So is Piranha Plant. He's even worse considering there was a perfectly good boss of its species that could've been a fighter, but got snubbed for its generic enemy version that uses him as a shitty Final Smash to reference his shitty boss fight in Brawl's not shitty Story Mode.
Honestly, with "everyone is here", I thought all assist trophies would be back, with Little Mac being the first character to simultaneously be an assist trophy and a fighter, and Charizard being the first to simultaneously be a Poké Ball summon and a fighter.
I've been doing it from the start myself, as I called out Ultimate in the pinned comment here before its official release even happened: ruclips.net/video/RVoaAbvjJjQ/видео.html The problem is when there aren't more people to help with that.
This video is dumb he complains about Byleth inclusion but FE is big enough for 6 reps don’t even with me on this shit the DLC was chosen when three houses was already shown off and we had enough info on it Jeb complained about Incineroar making it in for being not iconic.... yet you suggested Isaac from a niche ass JRPG ok then...
@@raidoukuzonoha883 1. FE doesn't have 6 reps. They have 8. 2. Being big enough doesn't justify their overrepresentation. The legend of zelda series has 5 reps, and on a technical level, 3.
@@raidoukuzonoha883 Skull Kid, Midna, even Tinkle had litteral cult followings during the months of smash speculation. Also, that argument can be said for the FE characters due to how "generic" they look
Wanted to share some of my thoughts on this. I personally don't mind Isabelle and Incineroar, even if the former could have been a bit more interesting. The main gripe that I have with this game is that it was supposed to focus on the veteran fighters this time around. Many characters before Smash 4 had inaccurate or made-up movesets, and since the tagline revolved around every character returning, I expected to get some major changes to how they function. After all, if development time wasn't going into the newcomers as much for this game, this was the perfect chance to really dissect and fix some of the biggest problems with the veterans, with obvious examples being Ganondorf, and as you mentioned, Sonic. But they were barely touched at all, with some getting one move change or Mario getting Cappy and purple coins when he uses Up B. I wanted them to handle the old characters as they did with Game and Watch, updating animations and making moves reference the source material better, generally breathing new life into these characters that have been the same since their debut. But instead, we got less than what Smash 4 offered. Looking back at those Smash 4 directs, you can see where they took the direction of some of the returning characters, making them feel a bit fresher while also having plenty of new characters. It leads me to wonder where those "tens of thousands" of changes went from the jump to Ultimate. Overall, it feels like they prioritized the roster over the characters, and it's a shame seeing the reduced number of newcomers leading to this. It pains me knowing that the series staple characters will likely never get changed, seeing how they were handled when they were supposed to be the stars of the show for this game. Of course, losing All-Star and Events mode was a crime, but my main disappointment lies in how the supposedly best part about Ultimate, the characters, was implemented, and how great they could have been if things were different.
So I'm gonna take my time and respond to things I both agree and disagree with in your video, this'll probably be a long comment but I think it's nice to have a discussion with people of differing opinions than you. I disagree with your take about the fighters. It's understandable to be disappointed if you didn't get a character you want. Barring Inkling, which was basically a lock in anyway, I didn't get a character I wanted, but I would never undermine someone who did get the character they wanted which I lot of Smash fans do. Now I do agree with how bad folks are twitter are with berating people who are being respectful about their disappointment. As a fire emblem fan, just know that I never did that despite me liking Byleth and them currently being one of my mains. Regardless, you could go on and on about what Smash's roster is supposed to be but the thing is is that that is completely opinionated. Isabelle makes sense as a new character to me as she's essentially become the main face of Animal Crossing, she's incredibly popular and I feel like her inclusion was another given. Incineroar, well just a Pokemon character in general, felt like another given. It's one of the biggest media franchise ever (in fact, it is), we've gotten a new one in every game, it also has the biggest roster of characters to choose from period. Same minus that last point for Piranha Plant, plus an added point about pure recognizability. I just don't understand people's criticism of characters when there's no bar to made about them. Sure there's a lot of Fire Emblem characters, but just like Pokemon it has an insane amount of characters they could choose from. And if your problem is that there's too many swordfighters then why aren't there people talking about how's there too many fist-fighters when they easily take up more than half of the roster, to then if the problem was that they "play too similar", Shulk, Marth, Ike, Byleth, and so on don't play similar at all. The only argument I could see against Byleth's inclusion is that it was first party while the rest were third party, marketing wise that doesn't make a whole lot of sense and I feel like the team should have realized that. The thing about Rex is that for both Greninja and Byleth, those two characters were done concept-wise while Rex wasn't, Sakurai said this for both and while I get being disappointed at that, the character was just made at the wrong time and there's sadly not much you can do about it. I completely agree with you about World of Light but something I both do and don't agree with are spirits. Trophies instead of spirits I feel would have taken too much dev time to make so I prefer the how Ultimate does it as it allows for way more representation than Trophies ever could. I do agree with them not being interesting though, what I would do to circumvent this is adding the flavor text back so you can get an idea of the character and their franchise. I disagree with your take on Classic Mode. Classic Mode in Ultimate imo is the best it's inception. Having each character have their own unique Classic Mode is genius to me and gives players a reason to find out what the theme is for each character instead of just playing as a single character and moving on. I get your point about some classic modes being harder to beat than others but I wouldn't consider that a negative and instead an incentive for a player to get better at playing as that specific fighter because Smash as a game has always benefited those who are good at playing with more than one fighter. It getting repetitive in more than one play I can kinda see as a negative but I personally wouldn't see the point at playing Classic Mode with a single character more than once as in the previous games your reward was the character's trophy. Something I definitely do agree with however is the bonus stage which is definitely repetitive upon multiple playthroughs. Your point on extra modes I both agree and disagree. I do agree that there is a lack of modes that the previous games had which is a negative but your comments on the modes, I also agree and disagree with. A Target Break mode I definitely feel would have been a good inclusion because while it most likely wouldn't have been all unique like it was back in Melee, Classic Mode plays to that point, and I found Target Break in Brawl to be fun to play in Brawl as well. It could have been possible to repurpose it like in Smash 4 but I'm doubtful it would have been all that engaging. All Star mode in a game where there are over 80 characters would be tiring in my opinion. In worked in Brawl and before because of that games smaller rosters. That in ultimate would have been a literal marathon and I prefer how they just made it into Mob Smash instead. I do agree with how you feel on Event Match. Definitely disagree with the notion that Smash 4 had better side content, at least on Wii U. Classic Mode in that game was easily the worst it was in the series. Event Match was definitely decent but I think Brawl's version was significantly better. And Smash Tour was an absolute joke. Smash Run on the 3ds though, that's honestly one of the best things to come from Smash 4 and I definitely would have preferred a more in-depth version of it with online play to World of Light by a long shot. Agree with you on Stage Builder and Online. Stage Builder is a lot of fun and the Online is booty. I would make the point that most Nintendo games have crappy online but I know that that isn't an excuse that something like this happens in a game as big as this. Your take on competitive smash is interesting in ways I both agree and disagree. The game definitely does have better mechanics than Smash 4 and Brawl but things like the awful buffer system holds both people who are interested into getting into the competitive scene and people who are already in the competitive scene. They definitely are making an effort to appeal to the scene though. There's a lot more patches coming out which nerf characters who were stupid (Pichu f-tilt, Palu Nair), and buff low tiers (although they could do this a LOT better). Nintendo also supports the tourneys behind the scenes but not in the way that the competitive scene want them to, which I admit is definitely infuriating but it's baby steps. Nintendo would not have done this back in the Brawl, even Smash 4 days. Agree and also disagree with your take on the music. I definitely agree that some franchises deserve more music and I'm upset as you that Sonic STILL only has that Angel Island remix but disapproving of Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus getting a lot of remixes doesn't really make that much sense to me, at least back in the Smash 4 days both of those franchise were doing very well and while I wouldn't consider that a reason for a franchise to not get remixes like the ones you listed for example, wouldn't that be all the more reason why they get a lot of remixes? You mention in the video about how the composers chose whatever tracks they felt like remixing which I dunno, I understand why you want more franchises to get more songs, I do too, but I do prefer the composers being able to remix the track that they want to which is why we got so many good Megaman and Castlevania remixes imo. New tracks that aren't remixes though, that's a different story and I can't defend that. And oof instant dislike, the Midna's Lament remix in this game is amazing, you can't tell me otherwise (jk). Oh and the thing about Sonic and Bayonetta. Sega was strict about Sonic's portrayal as a fighter (both in moveset and in alt costumes) in Smash so I'm not sure how likely it is to assume they did the same for their music but I guess we'll never know. Brawl is still probably my favorite game in the Smash although not really for the same reasons as you, I just really liked how much variety you had and Subspace iconic. I do agree with fans that don't take criticizes of the game lightly. The game definitely does has its problems, even my favorite games I acknowledge its issues Whew that took way too long but a tl;dr I think I disagree with most of your points, however the points I do agree with I agree with almost wholeheartedly. I really do enjoy this game but like I said, it has its issues and is far from perfect, very far. I can only hope that in the future whether it be a brand new Smash game or just an expansion of this one (which I would personally prefer as the issues I have with it could be easily fixed) that the community can all come together and enjoy
blazefan519 Yeah, the comment about Smash4 having better content is a hard disagree from me. Objectively speaking, it does have more content than the original 64 game, but I’d put it below even that because what it actually does with said content is horrible and saps any ounce of fun out of the game. You can tell they gave the game a ton of challenges to make up for the lack of an Adventure, but I feel Smash WiiU went way too overboard on what those challenges expect of you (with a lot being downright tedious, especially when you’re asked to do something with every character in a game with a roughly 50-character base roster). 3DS was better, having a Classic Mode that isn’t complete shit, actually reasonable challenges, and while Run was too randomized for my tastes, I would agree that it was the highlight (actually, I enjoyed Master Fortress, but unfortunately, they make you go through a bunch of shit, in that god-awful Classic Mode, in order to reach it, and worst of all, you have no way of unlocking a more direct way to access it). In contrast, Ultimate’s Classic is great, and I actually found myself having a lot of fun collecting Spirits (even if it can be overly repetitive, and I absolutely hate how Spirit Board and World of Light’s functions almost completely overlap, making it seem rather pointless to have both). And World of Light did drag on way more than it needed to, but it still had its moments (especially the boss battles), and frankly, I’ll take it over not having an Adventure Mode at all. I don’t see New Game+ as anything worth going through, though (I only really bothered with it to get Dracula and Marx again). The complete lack of side-scrolling really hurts Ultimate, too.
YamatoFukkatsu Yeah I agree. Totally forgot about Master Fortress which I thought was a decently fun fight and challenging, but getting there was pretty annoying. I did find the fun in spirits, collecting them, leveling them up, evolving them and the like but eventually I thought the novelty wore off. I do go back to spirit board time to time when they make new ones to see how they're represented which I find is the best part about spirits. I find WoL a step-in the right direction into us getting a proper sub-space emissary back so I also agree with having it being better than just not having an Adventure Mode at all like 4 did and the Boss Fights were just as fun as they were in Subspace and I can't knock that.
I agree with this whole comment really and when he was talking about The Roster and newcomers. At least to me his tone made it seem like he was whining
the one statement I disagree with you is on the competitive scene. I agree with the rest of your points, especially about the fighter selection. so lemme start this dissection. "...The game definitely does have better mechanics than Smash 4 and Brawl" yeah it definitely has better mechanics then brawl, but for smash 4 its a subjective opinion and I for one actually like a lot of the mechanics in smash 4, what a lot of people disliked about the game was the disparity between the top tiers and nearly everyone else. So its less about the mechanics and more about game balance. "but things like the awful buffer system holds both people who are interested into getting into the competitive scene and people who are already in the competitive scene." I think you meant it holds people back, in which, no it doesn't really. Esams reaction to the competitive failings of smash ultimate does a pretty good job of explaining it but Ive talked to no one who actually had an issue with the buffer system. "They definitely are making an effort to appeal to the scene though. " yeah they for the most part are. "There's a lot more patches coming out which nerf characters who were stupid (Pichu f-tilt, Palu Nair), and buff low tiers (although they could do this a LOT better)." the nerfs are laughable and the buffs are okay, however this game is really well balanced to the point where most people have just general ideas of "oh that character is below mid tier" or "oh this character is above mid tier" "Nintendo also supports the tourneys behind the scenes but not in the way that the competitive scene want them to, which I admit is definitely infuriating but it's baby steps. Nintendo would not have done this back in the Brawl, even Smash 4 days." no yeah this be fax
When you play online and you get a Wario stage with the GAMER song... And all you hear is silence. Or Envoirmental noises on a Pikmin stage.... Very hype battles will commense
About time someone put Sakurai's hard work talk on blast. It's made me question how honest he is about his work week. Also Piranha Plant's reveal sucks even more when you are someone who has Geno as your all time most wanted.
I was kind of disappointed when they cut the only form of Sonic Rush representation from the game, Right there right on, especially since i think its the only song that was composed by Hideki Naganuma to make it into Smash.
Not to mention how much sonic as a franchise is so poorly represented by Smash ever since 4 (Sonic's clone filled moveset, Lost World stage, Shadow and Knuckles as assist trophies). Even if the series isnt well known for having bad games, Sonic is still one of the most famous video game characters of all time, and to see him represented less than newcomer series just makes me sad.
It's one of the few tracks cut that didn't get any kind of remixed replacement. I wonder why. Naganuma doesn't seem like he'd be difficult to get licensing rights from.
I see where you’re coming from with All Star being relegated to a mob smash mode, but honestly I understand why they did it. The roster is so massive, especially compared to Smash 4, that each run would go one of two ways: it becomes a tedious grind with several matches of about four or five characters, or five to eight matches with tens of characters in a single match (the latter of which already sounds like a mob Smash match). I think they made the right call with downgrading the mode, even though I’ll admit it takes away from what made it special.
It’d be cool if they broke it into factions like, 64/melee/brawl/ect but I think it still wouldn’t be the same. An 80 character cpu fight sounds like hell tho lol
Hanzum Autist I especially love how they toned down the challenges this time around. In Smash WiiU, you’re expected to go through All-Star, using every character, with all of them on Hard. That was fucking bullshit, both for having around 50 characters in the base game, and also because some of those characters are horribly gimped due to Hard mode nerfing projectiles (while also making enemies’ projectiles one-shot you). In Ultimate, despite having an even bigger roster, you’re barely required to even touch All-Star to get 100% completion. Technically, with Fighter Spirits being purchasable in the shops, you’re not obligated to play with every character in Classic either, but I would anyway since, contrary to what this video says, I think Classic is the best it’s ever been (and probably the one true highlight of Ultimate’s single-player).
Only reason I don't really like this excuse is because they could've just did what they do in the kirby games with the modes that let you play as a different character (like meta knightmare) where you get a save point at certain points so you could just come back and do it. Not only that, having what is essentially two mob smashes really defeats the whole purpose of having the mode and I don't think I would've minded if they had just outright cut it if this was seriously the best solution they could think of.
Mann-Nova Sakurai and his team DEFINITELY don’t like Sonic. Smash 4 and Ultimate has made it so obvious. I excuse brawl for some cut corners like the lack of a smash original VT or no new remixes because of how late Sonic was squeezed into the game, but Smash 4 and Ultimate are inexcusable. -No new Sonic remixes (while mega man gets fucking 17) - Relegated fan favorites to assist trophies (Knuckles and Shadow) -Left Sonic with the same bland, uninspired moveset - Didn’t include an Eggman boss when he is literally one of the most iconic video game villains -And is still literally the only character to not have an original smash victory theme (but ofc Corrin gets a new one lol) I hate to just complain like this but it’s just so blatant they don’t like this franchise lol.
At first, I thought this video would've been just a rant. But, I watched the video in full, and can say that you make a good point, and I agree with you. Smash Ultimate doesn't feel "Ultimate", and it annoys me how many fans of the series are willing to allow negative opinion and criticism. Anyways, great video overall.
You're upset about minor elements don't actually lower the quality of the game and you're probably burned out from the Smash series to the point you can't be excited anymore
@@Antonio-is2cn No. The main argument is that the biggest gimmick with this game is the “Everyone is here” and all the characters that got added in its giant mega roster and dlc, but at its core it lacks the fun variety game modes and features previous entries of the series had, a butchered adventure mode, terrible online experience, and all star smash etc. Instead of focusing the dlc on more characters that is already for a bloated roster, we could’ve gotten more game modes and interesting features to a game with a lack of substance
The Mii “support” was definitely nerfed, and by a lot. Customization was somehow worse too It's funny how you seemingly look it over seeing how you main the gunner at least. Nevermind the -lack of outfits -lack of customizable weights and heights
being able to choose the weights was dumb af. it just made them even harder to balance. dont you remember how broken small mii brawler was in smash 4? even places that didnt have miis banned in smash 4, banned the weights and things. the new system is way better.
@@Daidek weight in mario kart hardly matters, and theres really only like 4 different types of characters (4 that play differently) . in smash bros, theres nothing else like a mii smaller, and it also effects speed. If a light and short mii in mario kart went faster than any other character (which is the equiv to what its like in smash) than your argument might make sense.
i WARNED you about those STAIRS BRO. i TOLD u DAWG. but yeah, homestuck aside, I love your videos man. i deeply enjoy your criticisms on things people dont usually speak up on and I was similarly dissatisfied with ultimate and seeing my thoughts put out on display like this was refreshing.
Ngl after seeing all your sonic videos I became a huge fan of this channel. I also saw you with another channel I like called J reviews and game apologist. Your videos are underrated and well made and you deserve way more subscribers. I thank you for making this video. Also just because I'll add some characters I wish were in ultimate. Doomslayer Phoenix wright/miles edgeworth Arle nadja Dante Big boss Bomberman Crash bandicoot Shadow the hedeghog
This “move sets and how fun they are are more important than what character it is” argument is pretty invalid when you consider that Smash was created and has become a major success specifically because Sakurai asked to use Nintendo characters instead of original ones.
Yeah, he himself didn't believe the original fighters had charisma enough to make the game popular, so he added guys like Mario, DK, Link, Yoshi, Fox, Falcon, Kirby, only to years later say that the "icon status" doesn't matter, and that we shouldn't complain about someone like Corrin, with 0 personality and 0 charisma,
as part of the fire emblem community I can say we (to my knowledge) don't like how much we get. many people didn't want the characters that got in the game (such as chrom, corrin, and byleth) to be in it. many wanted just marth, ike, 1 other not represented class(such as lyn, hector, or ephraim), and MAYBE roy. it gives fire emblem a bad name in the place where it draws the most people. having 8 characters, where others feel like those slots are wasted.
Honestly I wanted Byleth. I could’ve went without Corrin though. Not saying I hate that he’s in it per say but with every other character I could think of a reason (or as some may call it excuse) for why each Fire Emblem fighter deserves to be in Smash. With Corrin, he was definitely added just to promote Fates. Nothing more. People could say that about Roy too but over the years he’s become more of a Smash favorite which I feel justifies his inclusion. Byleth was also added at a time when Three Houses has already run its course, gotten a good amount of following, and seemed like a very important game in the series as like Awakening, it began introducing more people into the series.
@@starfalchion4404 as you said there are reasons they are in the game. I just don't like that fire emblem is instantly hated on after given any attention in smash. we have 4 versions of 1 character(basically) gameplay wise and though I LOVE byleth and what he means to the series, he was instantly hated by the community because he was another. we have 2 more characters than zelda, a series known for great characters that could be added and has been more popular than fire emblem for as long as smash has been out. I know roy has been in smash for as long as smash has had fire emblem so I know with all the other characters he has his reasons for being here. I'm just saying we probably shouldn't take up arround 1/11 of the roster.
Honestly,I pretty much agree with most of this video especially the part on how immature the smash community is and the community calling people haters or say that they don't appreciate sakurais work just because they don't like some dlc characters picks. On top of that with the lack of modes like coin battle and event mode, a lackluster classic mode and adventure mode if you even want to call it that, and really bad online especially with the matchmaking system and with how the community acts with this, it makes me take the series less and less seriously and never wanting to play it competitive. At this point, the only time I get excited in smash bros ultimate is new dlc character announcement because honestly there nothing that much to get excited for in the base game. It doesn't feel like the ultimate smash bros game, it just feels like another good smash bros.
Some absolute validity being thrown out here, great job Jeb. I still love playing the game though, but MUCH of what's being said here and more always crossed my mind.
I wish there were more youtubers like you, you dont upload often but when you do it is a really good video with alot of effort put into it, and you are also extremely honest, you just earned one more subscriber
Imagine being awake at 2 am on an exam day to watch Ultimate's direct. And what you get is watching your only wants put into the "DECONFIRM ASSIST SLAUGHTER".
I feel like super smash bros ultimate is the embodiment of "cram in every possible thing that we can just to try and appeal to the widest possible audience". Hopefully the next game in the series will focus more on re-evaluating what works and what doesn't to improve what we do have, because that's really the only way to move forward without it seeming like a step down.
It doesn’t even try to appeal to that wide of an audience. The DLC in particular had almost no variety in its representation, so it ended up appealing to die-hard RPG and Fighting game fans and barely anyone else. Easily the biggest cause of the “toxic” fanbase in smash isn’t that each person’s specific favorite character didn’t get in, it’s that Sakurai didn’t even attempt to appeal to a wider audience than those who shared his own tastes in gaming.
This is honestly the truth for me. I actually never wanted to get Smash Ultimate. My own friends kept begging me to reconsider and buy Ultimate. The reason why I was so against/hesitent to get Smash Ultimate, was because of the hell I endured in Smash 4 3ds. For me, the worst Smash game I've ever played was Smash 4 3ds. The game was nothing but misery for me, and the fact that nearly every single one of my friends had to play competititvly really made me the Black Sheep of the friend group. Heck, it's kind-of happing again With Ultimate, only all 3 of them are pressuring me to Elite Bowser ( a character I have failed with time and time again, and have given up like multiple times.) I'm about hard-pressed to maybe put Ultimate down and never touch it again (for the 5th or 6th time... I've lost count). But if you were to look at my channel at that time (November of 2018 and then December 2018), you would have seen I got Ultimate. The reason for it, was because of Piranha Plant. A single newcomer threw me for such a crazy loop that I ended up pre-ordering the game on the last month, and then went and played it on release instead of waiting till christmas. The part I felt was an absolute insult for me was that I was officially finished with Ultimate after beating World of Light 100%. I had no need to continue the game, and only pick it up and play it casually. Yet from March 2019-December 2019 was when Ultimate for me started to go downhill for me. Heck, even the beginning of 2020 with Ultimate became a frustration for me. I actually hate King K. Rool, Snake, Ness, The Link Trio, and Jigglypuff, all because those characters give me hell even while playing as Bowser. A character, who of which my friends seem to love degrading, is the easiest character that can get into elite smash without so much trying. One of them has stated that he could elite Bowser blindfolded and he won't do it. If you want his youtube channel name, I'll give it here and everyone who reads this comment can spam "Elite Bowser Blindfolded-or you have no Kong". He would know that it was me who started it, but he brags so damn much about being able to do it, that he should be able to prove it. I bought Mario Tennis Aces, saw it had Piranha Plant, and I was like.... whelp, I wasted $80 (probably $100 now) Buying a game that gets me frustrated for a game that I could just laugh at.
i mean its kinda your fault for letting your friends push you around like that. honestly you should just tell them straight up that you wanna play the game casually. if they keep poking fun at you then theyre prolly not good friends. also bowser and most heavies in any fighting game are just combo food. if you dont want to deal with it then choose another character. having trouble with zoners and fast combo characters is just something that you have to deal with when playing a heavy.
@@oof7738 I've been thinking of just dropping Bowser and only play him just as a fun mindless character. I'm also planning on figuring out who I am good with and who I am bad with by replaying every single character. However, the biggest thing I will be doing is abandoning Quick Play. Quickplay has been the thing that has really made me hate Smash Ultimate entirely. So my most logical solution is to just get rid of it all together. I don't play on Quickplay, then I don't have to deal with what Iike to call the bullshit of smash ultimate.
Ahhh Jeb is talking about one of my favorite franchises ever, again I spend like 100+ hours on Smash 64 Melee was practically there since i have memory Brawl was my childhood I don't have "for 3Ds", but i can tell that is a good time Wii U and Ultimate share 3rd place on my favorite games of all time And the series introduced me to some of my all time favorites Pikmin and Xenoblade Chronicles
One of my biggest problems in SSBU that they add content through updates I really don't like that habit, Nintendo has a habit of adding content that should've been in the base game through updates, they've done this with Splatoon 1 & 2, Mario Maker 1 & 2, ARMS, Super Mario Party, and now Ultimate. This habit is starting to become really old really fast, and needs to stop.
I will say that I enjoy this game. But when they revealed Shadow was an assist trophy....in the last freaking direct, I was pretty upset. I’ve never felt so conflicted because Simon got an echo in the same game he was introduced in, while Sonic has been in Smash for over a decade and still doesn’t have a second character.
Nate Jackson YES THANK YOU. THIS IS A POINT I BRING UP ALL THE TIME. Sonic still has one rep while street fighter and Castlevania have 2. It feels so biased
Konami and Nintendo go way back from the best. And castlevania been on more Nintendo systems then sonic games. Along whit castlevania being around longer then sonic.
Honestly it's pretty sad that the only new mode in Smash that we got with the second pass was the Sephiroth Challange and it wasn't even a permanent mode
This video is really well made, and made me very upset by how much I agreed with it. I only have one issue that isn't based on opinion, which is the idea that a game release date shouldn't affect a fighters chance of being in Ultimate. The example you used, Greninja, is a bit questionable. As with Incineroar, a slot was already reserved at the start of development for a new Pokemon. All Sakurai was sent was a couple of concept mockups for the starters, and he chose Greninja. I doubt that Sakurai would do the same for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, considering the game came out two years into Smash Ultimate's development. I doubt that Sakurai would even have access to Xenoblade Chronicle 2 before the vast majority of character planning was set in stone. Hell, Incineroar was from a game that came out a year before Xenoblade and only 6-7 months into Ultimate's development, and even he wasn't decided on right away. He got the same reserved slot treatment as Greninja. As for Byleth, the way Sakurai spoke in the direct made it seem like Byleth got a bit of special attention to be included. If Three Houses wasn't as monumental as it was, I doubt Byleth would have been included. Corrin doesn't fall into the monumental category, but Corrin's inclusion lines up with most of the Pokemon, if we're going on the Japanese release date. Considering that Fire Emblem got the same Pokemon reserved slot treatment in Brawl, this kinda makes sense. Overall, you blatantly claiming that a 'game's release date affecting a character's inclusion in Smash was a lie' just left a bad taste in my mouth. You don't mention how these huge shoe-in franchises like Splatoon and ARMS had unnaturally long wait times for a character. You do mention how Pokemon, a franchise that has had a special reserved character slot system since Brawl, got a character within a year of release with Smash. I'm sorry, but Xenoblade would not get this kind of treatment. A game's release date CAN bar characters from Smash. Yes, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was huge, but that happened after it was released, which was way past the mark for an inclusion. DLC would have made sense, but they were too busy having fun with Piranha Plant. Other than that, this was a really good video, I just did not like that comment about release dates. I might edit this in the future as more arguments and counter points come up, so hopefully it doesn't grow outdated faster than the Grinch leaks.
Although I barely agree on any of these points I do think this video is truly great and I'm glad that these opinions come to light. Also great format and writing didn't get bored of listening to things I disagree to, watched and listened for an entire hour about something I don't agree with that's impressive on your side to keep me captivated
He makes a few good points later in the video but the first 20 minutes is whining, "my opinion is fact", weird strawman arguments, and the absolutely outlandish fucking idea that the only characters allowed to make it in are ones that people ask for.
Subspace is a bad singleplayer mode with a good cutscene thrown in. Melee All-Star mode is what we really need, especially with a roster three times the size.
I appreciate the principles of the video, but Piranha Plant is FAR from a wasted slot. Everybody and their mother knows what a Piranha Plant is, and they understandably can’t as easily tell all of the generic anime swordsman apart from one another. What can they do? Slash stuff and scream? Plant has: -A unique anatomy -A unique primary method of attacking (biting) -A Moveset no other character could have had (extending your neck, spitting toxic clouds, Ptooie, etc.) -Super unique gameplay involving area denial and slow snipes -The status of having appeared in almost every Mario game to date And Incineroar isn’t wasted, either. Pokémon is massive and a Gen 7 rep is something people both expected and were excited for. If anything, the wasted slot was Byleth, because we already have MASSIVE FE representation and Byleth is still another blue-haired anime swordsman. I can appreciate their unique take on the weapon triangle and how successful their game is, but come on, how many Marths until we stop?
I would argue, despite the fact that they are obviously Nintendo's prime money-makers, that Mario and Pokemon have too much representation as well, not just Fire Emblem. Although, with all three of those franchises, I think maybe I'd sing a different tune if the characters occupying those slots were different. ... Okay, maybe not so much FE, but I don't know.
I don't see that happening anytime soon. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling like it released last week, so investing in a new one when the port of an old one is still selling phenomenally would be a silly idea. However, I would be lying if I said I didn't want new Mario Kart.
overall i feel like this game suffers from a "quantity > quality" approach. it feels like the mario odyssey of the smash series, in that they felt like milking the same base gameplay under a shallow assortment of varied conditions was a good excuse for "content". imo the best thing they could've easily done for this game is to pan out the unique unlocks (characters, stages, songs) throughout a longer time period when playing the game, considering just how much there is to take in. start with say 10 characters, 20 stages, and 100 songs, and set specific varied conditions and/or _long_ time frames to unlock a new one. keep it just long enough to make each new unlock feel special and rewarding, but also to allow the player some time to learn and appreciate the nuance of each unique piece of content. i feel like melee and brawl did this really well (probably helped with the smaller amount of things to unlock, and the more varied ways to unlock them), and there's no reason they couldn't have implemented the same feeling for ultimate by accounting for its higher quantity (besides catering to a content-hungry consumerist mindset). for ultimate, unlocking every unique piece of content within 10 hours makes it all a bit overwhelming and feels rather meaningless in the end. it's the same reason i find the freedom to meander around an open world or sandbox game (or, breath of the wild) to encourage a rather shallow video game experience in the end. it's not doing much to _provide_ a specifically hand-crafted, curated experience for me to immerse myself in. it instead asks more for me to come up with the fun myself, which feels like a shallow and lazy strategy for video game companies to find profit in (let the players do the work!). and i guess this ultimately boils down to how _i_ function as a person naturally (at least when it comes to consuming media). i think i just want specifically hand-crafted experiences with intentional nuance, limitations, and challenges to work through, not another world to feel lack of direction or purpose in -- i already feel that way with our current world, lol. that's why im escaping to the fantasy of video games. and world of light almost does that, but surprisingly it does a pretty good job like you say at becoming the same thing over and over again without much _inherent_ rhyme or reason, besides the lazy approach of being ... more content!!! i know im definitely in the minority saying all of this, but i just wanted to share it all here, because your video shares a lot of my sentiments with ultimate, and i feel it taps into the main issue i have with it, which (to summarize) is that it all just feels rather mindless. nonetheless i appreciate your sentiments a lot (also don't even get me started on the buffer system)
Definitly. A lot of nintendo games from 2018 feel like they'd be better off with an extra year. Although I'm pretty sure people were dying to see a new smash, and might not have liked having to wait till 2019 or 2020 for that.
@@kylecampbell565 Kinda true. 2017 felt like the switch's true release, unlike 2016. Maybe they wanted to get back from the Wii U's flop so much that they couldn't wait to release the NX.
@@Supershadow301 Well it DID release in March 2017. I feel they should've waited between August and December. That way BOTW could've been at least a timed Wii U exclusive that wouldve justified the game pads existence, given more time to polish their first party games like Splatoon 2, Kirby Star Allies and Smash Ultamite. Also with everything in the first year or so pushed back a few months we'd have smaller droughts. And with more time for hardware production it's possible joy con drift wouldn't have been an issue
@@kylecampbell565 Wait, really? I could've sworn it came out sooner... But yeah, the hardware troubles could've been fixed, and most games would've had all their content at launch. At the same time, they could also have delayed BotW just to have it launch with the switch... Afterall, it's hard to justify launching a port on the next console a few months after such a game came out.
Smash Run should've replaced World of Light, it has way more replay value by far. Over 75+ regular enemies and is always different. The fact that Spirit Board exists makes having World of Light completely unnecessary. I question why Sakurai keeps making some of these redundant game modes when most of them are similar to each other, on top of having so many menus in a party/fighting game like this?
Doc Louis my assumption is that in Sakurai’s mind every smash game needs to be different. I mean it’s my personal explanation for why good modes like Subspace Emissary, Smash Run, and Master/Crazy Orders are never used again and improved.
I might be in the minority here but I found World of Light to be fun. I 100% understand why people didn’t get as attached to it as I did. I wish Spirits has their own trivia attached to em but as a whole I enjoyed it. Might 100% it again after I finish leveling up all the spirits to max.

@TD Sonic It's impossible to be not biased, since we all view the world only from our own view (we can only consider other people's views). Remember that.
Props to you for even making this video. Some of the complaints ring true and definitely are issues, others I felt were more subjective, like the whole newcomers being underwhelming.
Most of the time the people who are complaining about the DLC choices are nintendo fanboy manchildren and actual kids who had no idea about the importance of characters such as Terry Bogard and Hero. Instead they want characters like Geno who aren't relevant with him being in a single game that square enix owns and you all know that square will not let Sakurai and his team to go all out with his DLC content. Also I've gotta say that World of Light got very repetitive very fast but I did find some highlights within the mode with the dark world segments and some of the fun references like the gourmet race minigame or the DKC map segment.
This is a damn good video, i'm a competitive player so of course i dont really look at WoL or any of the side modes, but this got me thinking. when a new smash game comes out and i look back at this game, how will i think of it? I like the competitive aspect of this game but in terms of single player modes, i dont really know. I'll still take this game over ssb4 any day and ill even say single player is more enjoyable in this game imo. but its still no where near brawl or melee, infact i like brawl the most because of its single player. Anyways great video dude, and sorry your getting a ton of dislikes.
Not too into fighting games, but I LOVED Subsapce Emissary as a kid. Seeing this epic story playing out while also starring my favorite video game characters was awesome! I tried to be hyped for World of Light, but it was just too bare bones and...arcade-y for me.
I disagree with your opinion that smash ultimate's classic mode is worse than smash 4's since all the reason why you think ultimates classic mode is not that good can be applied to smash 4 to a greater extent. While you can say ultimate classic mode battles resemble spirit battles, smash 4's classic mode resembles regular smash mode battles making it less unique. Since smash 4's classic mode isn't character based like in ultimate and is based on randomness there is no incentive to try playing with other characters or repeat more playthroughs. Smash 4's classic mode is badly designed in my opinion.
@@echospace7347 uh yeah? The game started development literally after smash 4's final DLC. Not in 1 short year unless you're talking about Melee which was 13 months
@@mariopkmnzelda The thing is, Sonic is pretty iconic for a lot of the other unique characters. Eggman, Tails, Knuckles, Amy. They all part of the main cast.
Remember people. This is only his opinion. Don’t get yourselves confuse on an opinion and a fact. There’s a big difference between the two. You are allowed to disagree with him, but you need to respect his opinion and he’ll respect yours. You also need to remember that Sakurai is NOT a god. He’s a human being and makes mistakes like every other human being in the planet. It’s okay to question some of the decisions he makes and it’s okay to be disappointed. Just don’t be salty about it. It’s also not okay to be salty if someone doesn’t like what you like. Everyone is different and not everyone has the same taste as you. Just because someone doesn’t like something doesn’t mean they are ungrateful. Everyone can say what they want as long it isn’t offensive or rude and everyone can like what they want.
Its nice to hear someone else critiquing the lack of game modes, that's something that has really turned me off from playing smash bros a lot since Smash 4
BRUH IT"S NATHANIEL BANDY
Where is Bathaniel?
Yo, what’s up?
still fun tho
@@Mal-go5dl honestly Lyn should've been in Melee instead of Roy, it was the Blazing Blade that would be the first localized game
I agree Lyn deserves to be in over Roy, but Lyn didn’t even exist when Melee came out. Brawl’s the earliest possible moment where she could’ve been added. I think your FE Roster is great, however I would replace Roy and Chrom for more unique characters.
But it still has the sword problem.

@@ChaudTheGamer I have never cringed so hard like wtf are you saying?
I was REALLY praying for a "subspace emissary 2" but really bummed out to see "jpg collecter"

@@ChiefMedicPururu it definitely could've worked. Didn't even have to be a "save the world" story. I couldn’t agree with you more, especially your point about “Daddy Sakurai.”
Super Smash Bros. is a product, not a gift, and I don’t owe Sakurai in particular, or Nintendo in general, *anything.*
If they make what I like, I’ll spend money on it.

Studios are now more and more scared to take risks or trust their own instincts, because as countless opinions are just a click away these days, instead they may overcorrect and completely remove (rather than refine or rework) not-entirely-bad aspects in future games when fans complain and end up playing things safe, which can sometimes yield a less-enjoyable experience than even past bad games **cough*SonicForces*cough**
Games on their own aren't what's turned me into a jaded, cynical gamer who is disappointed with almost every game. If it weren't for the internet allowing people to find other people who have the same positive or negative opinion as each other and amplify the group's opinion through an echo chamber to the point that it starts to sound like mass consensus (even if the masses don't agree with the group's sentiment) because their voices have become the loudest of the material's audience, I feel like the Sonic series wouldn't be in a second dark age right now, and Piranha Plant wouldn't have been in Smash Ultimate (and even if Sakurai did still add Plant, he wouldn't be receiving half the harassment he's received)
TL;DR - the internet has ruined entertainment media for me
Good comment here.
The internet allows us to talk to anyone, but at a cost.

Rex would’ve been such a more interesting character though
Antimatterstudios True, though if we’re just going off how interestingly they play I’d say Piranha Plant has a very interesting and unique move-set.
Omentallic fun is the most important factor that a character has for me. Rex would bring so much to the game
Antimatterstudios That’s fair, Piranha Plant is one of my favourite characters to play. I was more just clarifying why Isabelle was a worthy addition to the roster.

I feel any replacement will have a tighter leash on them by Nintendo

@@Klonoahedgehog I thought Joker was Atlus?

Just Smash Run would be amazing with the franchise maps and enemies would have been enough for me...alas..
the only dlc needed was to add an actual story mode/more gameplay modes. there was never a need to bloat the game with even more (terribly balanced) characters. smash ultimate wasn't meant to be a huge celebration of itself and the franchises within it, it was just another easy attempt at milking money out of people losing their minds over questionable character inclusions.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THINK OF THIS GAME!!!!
Sonic is poorly represented in smash ultimate more than any other character .
He only has 2 stages one of which being an uninspired crappy clone of Green Hill zone
Like you mentioned in your video, while mega man got 17 remixes in ultimate, Sonic had none of that since brawl which is already more than a decade old this year.
And despite Castlevania being a third party game franchise, not only did Richter get announced as another Castlevania rep, but Dracula is also one of the bosses in WoL. Tails who is Sonic's best friend could have made a great Sonic rep but ended being just a useless spirit while Eggman who is also an iconic video game villain could have made a great boss but got reduced to a mere spirit
And to top it all, Sonic's movesets really suck. It is like his movesets got designed by a 10 yrs old who only played Sonic 06.Despite all this much time, his movesets remained the same
At the end I feal Nintendo really hates Sonic and his franchise
Tails plz
Yeah they almost certainly could have added sone shooter representation
They having fucking doom guy as a skin just upgrade him he’s far more impactful on gaming that a lot of other reps they have
There’s a reason first person shooters were once called doom clones
There is no Kirby Dreamland 3 representation whatsoever. No Hyper Zone 1 and 2, No Kirby 64 boss theme nor Miracle Matter, Not much of anything for Kirby as a whole ironically
Barely anything from the modern Kirby games either, like Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe. Sakurai is clearly biased to the Kirby games he made.
Hey at least the kirbys dreamland credits remix is poppin
Sakubias.... Ughhh
And yet, people say he's bias to his own series, correction.
He's bias to the Kirby games *he* made.
No kirby stages from the newer games
No Dark matter trilogy or Modern remixes.

That, and what you said about Brawl is exactly how I feel about Smash and now and how I feel about Ultimate being called Ultimate being a completely bullshit title.
For me, Ultimate went a little too heavy on the roster, and ignored a lot of the other content found in other games. Plus, World of Light is the epitome of filler. Why did they think 12 hours of boring same-y event matches was a good idea?
To address the first point, Sakurai did state before Ultimate's release that one of the main attractions is the roster, and was emphasised as well.
The ost for Punch Out is absolutely amazing, and they have like... 2 songs
At the very least have guidelines and minimums that gets prioritised and then have the arts go wild
Mr. Game and Watch has been in Smash in 2001 and they STILL haven't added remixes of music from the G&W Gallery games.
Seriously! It's underrated music.
Well...they added spirit rematches over a year later lol. Better late than never I guess but man this game seems barebones at launch

@DarkSonic180 Fucking clown
i definetly agree with the last part about "daddy sakurai" as a metal gear fan who is aware that these games are the result of a team's work, and not an indie game made by one person and published by a japanese conglomerate.
i also agree with brawl being the best in the series, even though people in the melee competitive scene would either laugh or kick my ass if i said that in front of them.
that being said, i have to admit that im more bummed out over knuckles not being playable instead of shadow, maybe it's because im much more emotionally attached to the first adventure game. but regardless, im pretty happy terry got in as a fan of classic arcade fighters, at least i get to have some fun with another character that's known for fisting..

that was awful im so sorry...
Hey, if you’re into modding Project + for Brawl came out a while ago, it includes Knuckles, I know it not Ultimate, or official...
But I hope you’ll like the news, and if you already know I hope you like the mod...!

yeah i heard of it, if my computer was able to run dolphin i would have tried to emulate and mod brawl, unfortunately it doesn't so i had to conform with super smash flash 2.
my computer's dead now so if i get another one with a better operating system i'll give it a try.

Man me too, Knuckles was literally my dream pick for Ultimate. Considering that Knuckles is the best brawler in the Sonic series and has such an extensive moveset he could really be such a cool character if they implemented him right. Unfortunately, I just get the feeling Sakurai and his team don’t give a shit about Sonic, like at all.
@@hotepsquidward1062 Or maybe SEGA has an hand in that.

I don’t think so.
With the inclusion of Steve and Sephiroth, I disagree.
I disagree
@@espurrseyes42 Primid is a shittier choice than Pirahna Plant dawg. Wtf even is a Primid, it's twice as boring

The main enemy you fight throughout the Subspace Emissary and a Smash Original character with like 6-7 forms ranging from simple Giant and Metal versions to ones with weapons that had different attacks as a result.

So is Piranha Plant. He's even worse considering there was a perfectly good boss of its species that could've been a fighter, but got snubbed for its generic enemy version that uses him as a shitty Final Smash to reference his shitty boss fight in Brawl's not shitty Story Mode.

I've been doing it from the start myself, as I called out Ultimate in the pinned comment here before its official release even happened:
ruclips.net/video/RVoaAbvjJjQ/видео.html
The problem is when there aren't more people to help with that.

The game definitely does has its problems, even my favorite games I acknowledge its issues
Whew that took way too long but a tl;dr I think I disagree with most of your points, however the points I do agree with I agree with almost wholeheartedly.
Great points!

Instead it got replaced by one of tea flops‘ shitty fan music from fucking mania, and two music tracks from forces.
They could have broken it down into three groups - 1980s, 1990s, and 21st Century. That would mean that each would have less than 30 fighters.
Technically speaking Sonic has never received a remix. That Angel Island one was from a Sonic Remix CD that came out around the same time.

Sakurai and his team DEFINITELY don’t like Sonic. Smash 4 and Ultimate has made it so obvious. I excuse brawl for some cut corners like the lack of a smash original VT or no new remixes because of how late Sonic was squeezed into the game, but Smash 4 and Ultimate are inexcusable.
-No new Sonic remixes (while mega man gets fucking 17)
- Relegated fan favorites to assist trophies (Knuckles and Shadow)
-Left Sonic with the same bland, uninspired moveset
- Didn’t include an Eggman boss when he is literally one of the most iconic video game villains
-And is still literally the only character to not have an original smash victory theme (but ofc Corrin gets a new one lol)

No.

This “move sets and how fun they are are more important than what character it is” argument is pretty invalid when you consider that Smash was created and has become a major success specifically because Sakurai asked to use Nintendo characters instead of original ones.
Yeah, he himself didn't believe the original fighters had charisma enough to make the game popular, so he added guys like Mario, DK, Link, Yoshi, Fox, Falcon, Kirby, only to years later say that the "icon status" doesn't matter, and that we shouldn't complain about someone like Corrin, with 0 personality and 0 charisma,
Damn, Jeb was WRONG!!!! They just announced a Xenoblade 2 character, I can't believe Jeb would slander Mr Sakurai like that. Shame on you.
as part of the fire emblem community I can say we (to my knowledge) don't like how much we get. many people didn't want the characters that got in the game (such as chrom, corrin, and byleth) to be in it. many wanted just marth, ike, 1 other not represented class(such as lyn, hector, or ephraim), and MAYBE roy.
it gives fire emblem a bad name in the place where it draws the most people. having 8 characters, where others feel like those slots are wasted.
Kellam for Smash.
Small correction: Japan really wanted Chrom in the Smash 4 reveal days, which is why he was included.
Everything else is completely correct.
Daidek Kellam’s already in Smash, he’s right there in the character selection screen

Hoenstly I'd prefer blaze as an echo

Nate Jackson YES THANK YOU. THIS IS A POINT I BRING UP ALL THE TIME. Sonic still has one rep while street fighter and Castlevania have 2. It feels so biased
Kyle Campbell I’ll give you that, I just thought it felt a like a gut punch
This game is awesome but it's honeslty the textbook definition of quantity over quality
these video-essays of yours are always real interesting to watch!
Agreed
He makes a few good points later in the video but the first 20 minutes is whining, "my opinion is fact", weird strawman arguments, and the absolutely outlandish fucking idea that the only characters allowed to make it in are ones that people ask for.
Yeah, completely agree with World of Light, it needed what Subspace had!
Subspace was a story but lackluster enemies and stages.
MarioKartGamerDude at least it had a adventure mode
Subspace is a bad singleplayer mode with a good cutscene thrown in. Melee All-Star mode is what we really need, especially with a roster three times the size.
I wish they would’ve brought back the Mad Reaper we fought in the 3DS version of 4.
I appreciate the principles of the video, but Piranha Plant is FAR from a wasted slot. Everybody and their mother knows what a Piranha Plant is, and they understandably can’t as easily tell all of the generic anime swordsman apart from one another. What can they do? Slash stuff and scream? Plant has:
-A unique anatomy
-A unique primary method of attacking (biting)
-A Moveset no other character could have had (extending your neck, spitting toxic clouds, Ptooie, etc.)
-Super unique gameplay involving area denial and slow snipes
-The status of having appeared in almost every Mario game to date
And Incineroar isn’t wasted, either.
YES. Thank you.
Meanwhile Mario Kart is just chillin'
Ehh... I'd wish they did a new one for Switch tho.
I don't see that happening anytime soon. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling like it released last week, so investing in a new one when the port of an old one is still selling phenomenally would be a silly idea.
However, I would be lying if I said I didn't want new Mario Kart.
overall i feel like this game suffers from a "quantity > quality" approach. it feels like the mario odyssey of the smash series, in that they felt like milking the same base gameplay under a shallow assortment of varied conditions was a good excuse for "content".
imo the best thing they could've easily done for this game is to pan out the unique unlocks (characters, stages, songs) throughout a longer time period when playing the game, considering just how much there is to take in. start with say 10 characters, 20 stages, and 100 songs, and set specific varied conditions and/or _long_ time frames to unlock a new one. keep it just long enough to make each new unlock feel special and rewarding, but also to allow the player some time to learn and appreciate the nuance of each unique piece of content.
i feel like melee and brawl did this really well (probably helped with the smaller amount of things to unlock, and the more varied ways to unlock them), and there's no reason they couldn't have implemented the same feeling for ultimate by accounting for its higher quantity (besides catering to a content-hungry consumerist mindset). for ultimate, unlocking every unique piece of content within 10 hours makes it all a bit overwhelming and feels rather meaningless in the end. it's the same reason i find the freedom to meander around an open world or sandbox game (or, breath of the wild) to encourage a rather shallow video game experience in the end. it's not doing much to _provide_ a specifically hand-crafted, curated experience for me to immerse myself in. it instead asks more for me to come up with the fun myself, which feels like a shallow and lazy strategy for video game companies to find profit in (let the players do the work!).
and i guess this ultimately boils down to how _i_ function as a person naturally (at least when it comes to consuming media). i think i just want specifically hand-crafted experiences with intentional nuance, limitations, and challenges to work through, not another world to feel lack of direction or purpose in -- i already feel that way with our current world, lol. that's why im escaping to the fantasy of video games. and world of light almost does that, but surprisingly it does a pretty good job like you say at becoming the same thing over and over again without much _inherent_ rhyme or reason, besides the lazy approach of being ... more content!!!
i know im definitely in the minority saying all of this, but i just wanted to share it all here, because your video shares a lot of my sentiments with ultimate, and i feel it taps into the main issue i have with it, which (to summarize) is that it all just feels rather mindless. nonetheless i appreciate your sentiments a lot
(also don't even get me started on the buffer system)
Smash bros ultimate needed another year in the oven, change my mind.
Definitly. A lot of nintendo games from 2018 feel like they'd be better off with an extra year.
Although I'm pretty sure people were dying to see a new smash, and might not have liked having to wait till 2019 or 2020 for that.
I’d say the Nintendo switch as a whole needed more time in the oven
@@Gamermario-lb3rq If it ain't broke why fix it?
I might be in the minority here but I found World of Light to be fun. I 100% understand why people didn’t get as attached to it as I did. I wish Spirits has their own trivia attached to em but as a whole I enjoyed it. Might 100% it again after I finish leveling up all the spirits to max.

It's impossible to be not biased, since we all view the world only from our own view (we can only consider other people's views). Remember that.
Props to you for even making this video. Some of the complaints ring true and definitely are issues, others I felt were more subjective, like the whole newcomers being underwhelming.
If they add Spyro, I'll be satisfied.
Yeah, it sucked honestly. The one in Ultimate at least has one minigame, and more variety in the battles, and even different bosses.
@@stardustsdd Yeah his reasons on why ultimate's classic mode is bad can apply to a greater extent to smash 4's.
