That's how we South Africans have been fishing for Kob/Mulloway for many years, and it always produces fish.

Well actually back in NZ I didn’t do a lot of trout fishing, grew up in taranaki so bulk white baiting with set & scoop nets, loved eeling in all the creeks on the local farm plus dad always had a boat an old run down boat that often got us into a bit of trouble haha but fun all the same we use to get some wicked fish off that with no sounder etc etc our spot was “line the fence post up with the top of the mountain” and drop anchor 😂 parents also ran a fish shop when I was a young one so always been around it an seem to just keep getting more an more love for this hobbie ✅🎣🐟

Hey mate yeah I didn’t expect too see a full cuttle fish in its gut haha 😅🦑 iv used the cuttle fish “candles” for snapper bait before and it worked but yeah I would not have thought a mully would be smashing full cuttle 😅🐟🎣

Rippa session once again Jack, you never fail to catch my attention when I see the little notification of a new vid. With your next mulloway you harvest mate are you able to do a catch, clean and cook. I’ve caught and eaten most of the pelagics but I have never seen a mulloway caught and broken down before, it’s a little curiosity of mine that I’ve yet to satisfy. Hey legend 👋 truly appreciate the kind words helps keep ticking this little channel along ✅🎣 I can certainly do that, this mulloway was beautiful, I had the wings with my kids as a snack. We made fish burgers for dinner one night, my neighbour made the best curry iv ever had with some of it and then I had two lunch portions at work with salad, the one fish went along way haha 🎣✅🐟

Great video, mate. The South Africans came up with the dingle dangel. I caught a 50-lb mully last December on my homemade version. They are certainly a different way of fishing the surf.

Check out the South African Transkei Rig too.Similar deal with a float in bait but uses a heavy ball sinker running rig and extra large long shank hook wrapped on float .Works best for me with overhead reel in and out of gear to suit current and walk along beach with rod .Got onto this after getting hammered by sand crabs on traditional fixed rig so tried it to get bait off bottom .Outstanding having the reel in free spool easing out line to Mr Mully !Gutted the Mulloway I caught...full of sand crabs !South African guys got their act together a long time ago!Have a look at the UK Pulley Rig as well it halves the length of trace for casting and stops bail helicoptering and restricting cast
bit more to getting Dongle working with Pulley Rig but doable .Great seeing a convert to the art.Cheers

nice work, i always check fish's belly to see what they have been eating. The last snapper had Sea urchins, full whiting, showing they are bottom eaters as well and my side of herring I was using for bait. Normally I find my burly millies chunks in their belly nothing else
Hey mate 👋 that’s awesome sea urchins are a snappers favourite for sure, back in nz many years ago we would collect a bucket of them an smash up an use for burley, snapper are mad for em. And then whiting is my all time favourite bait haha 😎✅🎣 very interesting to see what they feed on. Damn it can’t be comfortable for them to smash open an eat a sea urchin 😳😂🎣
Jack good fish , I have been using dangle rigs for years. What you can do at night to spice the presentation is to bind a small tube of lumo , Good luck.

For dingle dangle check out smoothhound (gummy shark) fishing in UK, (Dean Booker) the tactics used there work everywhere. Also I rarely catch stingray using grip leads, they don't like the wire grips. Bait tied to hook is a variation of carp hair rig, its been used for best part of 50years, highly effective. Great catch.

Hey mate 👋 the float rig is from vexed, likley in most tackle stores but I know it’s definitely in tackle west ✅ haha I always want to film more of my cook ups but with my 4 young kids running around it’s just to hard & a lot of noise others don’t want too hear 😂 I find it hard not too cut a fishes gut open just too see what they have been snacking on now haha 😂🎣✅ thanks for watching!

You can hang your grapnal on the dingle dangle to make it more aerodynamic when throwing

Dingle dangles are used everywhere here in South Africa 🇿🇦 for Kob/Mullaway. Quite a game changer for distance and bait presentation

Hey mate 👋 yeah they are definitely a game changer for surf fishing ✅ casts better then not using one as can hook sinker to bottom of dangle for a more aerodynamic cast and once it hits the water the bait/dangle float up and away from sinker into strike zone 🎣✅🐟

Hey mate 👋 thanks for watching! the blue rod is a 13ft assassin blue fish, I have a 5000 size Saragossa on that with 30lb braid. The rod that caught the mulloway is a 12ft Penn prevail heavy with a 10000 size Saragossa with 50lb braid 🎣✅💪🏼

Prevail is the 12ft “heavy” one I think 12-24 kg rating or somthing like that, has been a good rod for sure but my assassin one is much nice but I just need too catch a good fish on that one haha 😅👍🏻 reel is a 10000 size Saragossa with 50lb black magic inferno braid 💪🏼✅

Dude scaling is slow and messy... Fast and cleaner to skin with scales intact..that way you get a long fillet without skin and won't curl up when cooked.

Put your bait in the gutter or in front of the bank, Kob are lazy fish they don't like to swim in current.
