Love Kevin and I have seen him use that version. I have so much LW that I haven't had the chance to try the gel version BUT perhaps its time he he he 😜
There was a guy from England that forged painting , John Myatt, that taught students on a TV show, the forger's masterclass, to use KY-jelly for this. He said it worked just as well and was much cheaper. You might want to look into it.
My bad, it has been years since I saw that program. He used KY-jelly to extend the drying time of acrylic paints. Maybe it would work with the water soluble oil paints.
Can I built a layer of thick paint out of the tube after a layer of free solvent gel added to paint? Or I should keep adding the gel to the paint as I built layers?
If you are painting wet on wet style... start with a firmer paint then add some gel to make it more fluid/fatty/creamy.... this will allow you to stick the next layer on top more easily.
Great video! After using both the gel and the Liquin, which do you prefer? Or are there certain circumstances where one has an advantage over the other and it’s worth it to keep both on hand, depending on your needs at the time?
I would have to give it more time and practice to see which one I like more. I have been using liquin for years so I have way more experience with that.
This is always hard to answer because it depends on a bunch of different variables: How thin the paint was, what mediums were used, how much paint was used, are there multiple layers, weather/location, etc. Under paintings can dry on the faster side if thinner or certain mediums were used. Like less than 12 days. For a full oil painting to dry, it can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months (depending on how much oil was used )
Hello Wild Creates. It takes 6 to 12 mounds wen an complete oil painting is dry ?😱 I used gamblin solvent free gel for this underpainting. So i don,t know how fast or slow it drys and it was hot wen i painted today so i think the oil painting dries slow. Thanks Wild Creates
Hello Wild Creates. How are you doing? I ordered 2 bottles of 500 ml of linseed oil for oil painting. I tryed to order the walnut oil alkyd medium but everytime i ordered it in a few days amazone i got a e mail from amazone that the bottle weren,t shoppen i don,t know whyand that i get my money back. This happend like 4 or 5 times. I looked at alliexpress to see of they had a similair oil cause i know amazone wasnt shipping the walnut oil alkyd painting medium. So i found the 500 ml linseed oil off alliexpress. I ordered 2 bottles. I,ve the bottles arive i can finaly do so some oil painting
Per Gamblin: Solvent-Free Gel gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds the shape of your brushmark. Solvent-Free Gel has a moderately fast drying rate and increases gloss. Hope that helps
I know it can be cleaned up with soap and water BUT not sure if tis fully water mixable. You can check with the manufacture. Link to the product is in the video description if you want to learn more.
1:10 here you say it will DECREASE drying time but at 1:50 you say it will INCREASE drying time. which is it? I will be using this stuff more though because i have had trouble getting highlights to stick to the wet paint beneath
Sorry I jumbled the wording... videos can be tough ha ha ha. When you add the add the gel it will make your paints dry faster. AKA it speeds up drying time depending on how much you add. I hope that helps you out.
My friend has used this and loves it BUT I haven't tried it yet... You can check out all the info on it here: gamblincolors.com/oil-painting/mediums/contemporary-oil-painting-mediums/
Can you eloborate a little on fat over lean with using only this product and oil paint? Are you supposed to use the gel or fluid then use the safflower oil?
Without going to deep into it and keeping it very simple. You would use this gel in place of other mediums ( cause it works the exact same way,, its just a gel ). Use your firmer paint first then you will use a mixture of color with this gel that will go on top or blend with the firmer paint.
I would like to know where in a Bob Ross known artwork, where these products would be helpful. I am curious if it would help dry the tacky base color of trees, so if you come with your highlight colors same time, or tomorrow, how this may benefit (or may not) this process.
There are many uses BUT the main example would be... when it comes to using this with BRI products is when you need to thin your paint down to make it stick ( aka highlights ). Rather than use a drop or 2 of toxic thinner ( like Bob does) you can use this instead ( which is way healthier ). Hope that makes sense.
I have not tried it as a LC alternative ( but I can see it working with a little tweaking ) I have used it before as a liquid white alternative ( video coming on that soon-ish)

I do think liquin does have an distinct odor... But to me its not that bad. Maybe cause I only use a little at a time and reseal when not using it. On top of what? - My thinned down paint? - My thicker paint - My dry paint? If you mean in general I normal stick with liquid clears, artist grade walnut oil or linseed oil.
Generally anything that adds more oil material or more binder material. But there are exceptions. Just think of it this way.... If your paint is more watery/liquidy aka thin then use fattier or thicker paint on that.
Also I think people are going to try to not want to buy bob Ross Inc products for a while but while people are going to be having on the company for a while it's not the same company it used to be like it's no longer the same company portrayed in the Netflix docu, the state of the bob ross company is just 11 employees and half of them are middle age or retired ladies and they are constantly receiving harrasing phone calls and messages and it's been a bad time for them and I feel like if they made a video about the state of the company and do a video being very open and transparent about what goes on at the company now a days it would help clear up a lot of misconceptions, Hope I'm not gonna start an argument or anything

hello sir how its smell compared to standard linseed oil?
It has a very very lite odor due to not having solvents in it

Yes you can - I talk about it here and the proper way to use it:

What is the equivalent for water mixable oils?
I will have to check on that cause I am still using normal oils ATM... BUT I do know you can use Winsor & Newton Water soluble linseed oil.

would adding solvent free gel make the paint considered to be fatter or leaner than out of the tube?
