Heyyyy well done, man! I have a PPL too, in 2008 I Started flying from Sheffield EGSY and then from Sandtoft EGCF and Doncaster EGCN as the club moved about. About 150 hours in mostly C152, but also C172, PA-28 and PA-38. I have studied ATPL theory but never got around to taking the exams due to life. Also lots of simulators (look @ my channel). Maybe we could buddy up and I can give you a navigation exercise 😎
Cal haha - nah, I enjoyed the video a lot but Noel won’t be getting a 5 star Skytrax rating with the non-existing inflight service😂. But then again no US domestic/EU economy class really has any inflight service included so I think overall Noel did an amazing job in his new role as our all-in-one airline crew👍
I didn't know this about you, and it just shows you should never give up on those dreams. What a good idea to get back in the sky under your own power now! I look forward to more videos like this.
Way to adapt to the downturn in demand for commercial reviews! You're either flying a plane or jumping out of one... new day new Noel! Great work mate.
I am really impressed with you ! No one would ever know no it's been 20 years ! Keep it up as appears you are really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing this was us viewers ! David
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen from an aviation vlogger. I love how you actually know how to fly and not just review. Some are now only just learning but that’s only down to lack of flight review opportunities, seems like you are just picking up where you started 20 years ago. Good job!
I started my flight training over 7 years ago, took a 6 year break and got my private pilots license 2 months ago. Great job on getting back in the saddle!
Jealous Noel, did all my training at Sandtoft and passed no worries but hardly flew since and Licence has lapsed but I'm about to get a re-val and this has fired me up even more. Great stuff mate.
I’ve just started to enjoy watching your videos and this was probably one of my favorites ...it’s good to see a person do what he enjoys as life is so stressful these days .. Well done Noel!
Flying the plane is great but once you are up it is just sitting there burning money is why I quit flying the club planes... I do not have the resources for my own was the next step for me but you might have inspired me to reconnect with my license and a 172... maybe 182 my favorite ride... bigger more stable and faster 6 cylinder sounds great... thanks for the flight Noel I needed that!
Pilots' licenses are fancy in the UK! Here they're just plastic cards. I like the idea of a "listening squawk"; there's nothing like that in the US. ATC has no idea who can hear them if they're not actively talking to them.
It was a real step up when we went to plastic cards in the US. My first set of tickets were cheesy paper affairs that were clipped out of bigger cheesy pieces of paper that eventually came in the mail from FAA before your temporary certificate expired... if you were fortunate. 😊
This is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE video you've done so far! Well done on getting your currency back. I was in with BA in 2001 ready to start at Oxford Wings School to get the Commercial License to fly 737, but 9/11 cancelled all that when BA couldn't take more students on. I'd love to afford to get a PPL.
This gives me hope and inspiration. Back in 2013, 14 and 15 I did my PPL course and got my license but obviously now life has happened. Haha! I want nothing more than to get back into it. I’m now 31 and I’m now working on a budget and plan of action to get back in the Cessna. Excellent video Noel and I love the roar of that engine, it brings back fantastic memories, some of my best in fact. Keep these vids coming! 😁
There are 6 emergency exits on this aircraft, two in the aft section, two over the wings, and two in the front of the aircraft. Lighting in the floor will indicate the exits. Please note that the nearest emergency exit might be behind you !!! There will be no in flight service on this flight. Well Done Noel. Very exciting !
Nother great one!! I think you should consider a voiceover, it got pretty difficult to understand what you were saying during the flight or maybe subtitles. Congratulations from Brazil!!
Great video as always Captain Philips !! Just like riding a bike !!! Lovely scenery...the green fields of England !! Lovely landing as well !! Thanks as always Noel and trust you and the family are all well during this awful time !!! Take care Captain !!
Hi Noel, just had a boring 130 mile drive up the M6 back home to Chorley, just watched you flying the plane, absolutely brilliant sir, think you're mode of travel was far better than my Astra!!!✈👍
Absolutely loved this one Noel! As someone who was studying for their ppl but has had to stop due to covid (and loss of income) this makes me so happy to watch.
Well done Noel...you are living many people’s dreams...god bless you and your lovely family....looking forward to seeing more of your flying adventures...take care...
If you like smaller airfields, consider flying down to Bodmin Airfield sometime. It has a couple of grass runways and the community down at the airfield is brilliant
Would love to see more of these videos, well done. One tip though, it seems like your left hand when flying is really tight to the controls. It’s really good that you are flying with one hand but it seems like you are a little heavy on the controls. Always remember “If you are gentle with the plane, the plane will always be gentle with you.” You will have much smoother flying as long as you are light with all controls in the plane. Best of luck flying!
Greetings again from Kuwait. Thanks for taking me along for the ride. I am stuck here and hoping to get home to Philippines within two or three months. I could do with a plane like that and fly all the way to Manila!!! Stay safe.
Brilliant Noel, What a dark horse you are, I’ve watched hundreds of your vids and never knew u was a pilot in your past, head over to Norfolk soon on a flight and I’ll show you around. 👍
Very nice Noel! Your story is almost exactly the same as mine. I stopped 20+ years ago when I got married but feel I could easily still do it. Only problem is that I don't have enough of the fundamental element that makes airplanes fly - Money.
Great landings Noel I did my PPL at Biggin Hill years later CPL/IR at Dubai fantastic flying out of OMDB and microlight ING at Ras Al Khaimah. Give it a try! Safe aviating buddy
Inspiring mate - I got my PPL in 2006, flew off on the semi regular until 2013 and have not flown since - I'm looking forward to getting back up in the skies! Nice video as always
As per don’t even need to comment but amazing content Noel! Thanks for always keeping us entertained I know we just press and watch and half of us don’t know all the hard work that goes into editing etc but we appreciate you :)! Glad to be able to watch like and support you and specially the family🙌
I'm sure you're aware of this but the content of this channel just got exponentially more interesting and dramatic! Good for you Noel! Can't wait to see more adventures in the air. Will Mrs Philips and the Philipettes be joining you in the air too?
Brought back memories for me. Years ago, I learned how to fly a tail dragger with a stick. It was a Citabria (no longer around) . I did get my private pilots license, but never flew again after I married and had a child.
I loved that you flew over your house and timed it so your wife could film you as you flew overhead. Awesome video! Hope to see more in-flight videos from "Captain Philips" soon. :-)
Great video Noel! Must have been so exciting to get into the pilots seat! Years ago my brother had a Cessna 170A. I really enjoyed going up flying with him!
This was a really fun video to watch, happy you had such a great time up in the air and can’t wait to see more of these videos, thanks Noel really enjoyed watching this video :D
Just come across this video, Sandtoft is nice enough, Humberside Airport is painless to fly into if you wanted an easy international airport to fly into
Hi Noel not commented for a while, absolutely fantastic content this is what makes you stand out from the crowd. Off on my first flight in after a few years, easyjet to Geneva in September can't wait.
Great Video mate. what a rush to be able to fly solo like that. Well done. Hope we have more videos like this of you flying. Again, great video mate. Thanks
Brilliant Noel well done getting back in the skies, i am terrified of flying and really struggle going on holiday, but watching your videos is really helping me calm a bit when flying.
great video, nice to see you flying again and I can see you doing tours of the uk and eu via plane especially now we are in the pandemic! more vids like this please noel!
Noel, great that you’re back in the air! You should really try to get your instrument rating to become an even more proficient pilot. You will be able to fly in the clouds and not worry about the weather being VFR to go flying!
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe so you don't miss my future flying videos, an don't forget to check the Merch store: noelphilips.com/shop.

ohh my god i didnt know you was at Sandtoft airfield. i live near that.
newcastle to orlando full flight
As you didn’t fly for 20 years, would you need to revalidate your licence or could you just get in and go?
Im currently flying that exact aircraft at sandtoft right now normally from doncaster sheffield airport with yorkshire aero club
You're a brave man to upload your first solo after 20 years with all the professional keyboard pilots on the interwebs.
I've paused just after he said "V1 rotate" to see if there's any haters in the comments and I'm impressed there aren't. Yet.
As a professional keyboard pilot I agree with your statement.
Avoid this airline at all costs. The inflight service is absolutely horrible 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
... but the view is tremendous!
to be fair it is called inflight video not inflight service.
Noel: *"I am the captain now!"*
Is that from Nicky,Ricky, dicky and dawn by any chance
I didn't know this about you, and it just shows you should never give up on those dreams. What a good idea to get back in the sky under your own power now! I look forward to more videos like this.
1:03 nice Top Gear reference lmao
When he said top secret I was waiting for it.
Ooooo Cross-Advertisment
Woah who is inpressed that noel can fly!!!!
Way to adapt to the downturn in demand for commercial reviews! You're either flying a plane or jumping out of one... new day new Noel! Great work mate.
Congratulations on regaining your pilots licence. Lovely to see you having such an enjoyable time. Well done !
I am really impressed with you ! No one would ever know no it's been 20 years ! Keep it up as appears you are really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing this was us viewers !

Noel I'm visually impaired so can't hold a licence, I'm just gonna live vicariously through you, OK? :D
Who remembers James May flying Richard Hammond in a Cessna 172?
I remember the preflight checks.
I remember James forgot to tell Richard, He can't fly at night night yet, Making Richard pretty angry.
best part i liked was seeing your wife and kids flying above them and filming, loved seeing your flight from 2 perspectives
Noel is the only reason I wake up on Saturdays.
Jealous Noel, did all my training at Sandtoft and passed no worries but hardly flew since and Licence has lapsed but I'm about to get a re-val and this has fired me up even more. Great stuff mate.
Really awesome that you've earned your wings in 20 years, I'm proud of you!
I’ve just started to enjoy watching your videos and this was probably one of my favorites ...it’s good to see a person do what he enjoys as life is so stressful these days .. Well done Noel!
Wow..just wow..simply superb Noel.you are fantastic, thanks for all the enjoyment

CAPT Phillips I enjoyed watching the flight and smooth landing 😃✈️
The view points from the sky were stunning too

Would love way more of this, let’s get Noel his own plane!
After becoming a regular watcher of your vids, this made me ... dare I say .... proud! Well done!

....and the pilot never shuts up! Well done Noel, I really enjoyed that.)))
You didn't comment on the in-flight food or entertainment. Or give us a tour of the toilet. Thumbs down from me! :-)
exactly. i don't even know the sturdiness of the tray tables. unsubscribing 😁
😂😂😂
What about the legroom or amenity kits
And don't forget the non-existent first class toilets!
Nother great one!! I think you should consider a voiceover, it got pretty difficult to understand what you were saying during the flight or maybe subtitles. Congratulations from Brazil!!
I just got so much more respect for this guy! 💪🏼
Loved it! Even in these horrendous times you're getting a lot out of life.
I am kind of in the same position as you, ready to go back to it. Thanks for the inspiration Noel.
Absolutely loved this one Noel! As someone who was studying for their ppl but has had to stop due to covid (and loss of income) this makes me so happy to watch.

If you like smaller airfields, consider flying down to Bodmin Airfield sometime. It has a couple of grass runways and the community down at the airfield is brilliant

Noticed that too but hey, he hasn't piloted his own plane in 20 years. He'll get back to 3 fingers.
Cameron Wilson Yeah exactly it’s all good I was just suggesting 😁
So awesome that Rachel and the kids caught you flying above your house!!
Fly into Headcorn Kent and see the spitfires at aerolegends. Great to see you flying again.
Great video!✈️
Greetings again from Kuwait. Thanks for taking me along for the ride. I am stuck here and hoping to get home to Philippines within two or three months. I could do with a plane like that and fly all the way to Manila!!! Stay safe.

Clearly, that Red Bull gave you wiiiiiiiiiiiiiings.
Good video format and good camera angles! Keep being you.
Thanks for taking me flying! Not bad for a 20 year gap!
You go Noel. So impressed !
Blimey. Its 24 years since I last flew an aircraft yet I can remember the downwind checks mnemonic: BUMFICHH!
Hey Noel great video! Congrats on flying agian after 20 years! Great way to spend quarantine!

Loving the old school David Clark headphones.
Brought back memories for me. Years ago, I learned how to fly a tail dragger with a stick. It was a Citabria (no longer around) . I did get my private pilots license, but never flew again after I married and had a child.
American champion is still producing the Citabria, scout and I think the decathlon still.
great stuff congrats on getting your license back
I love the Top Gear hint there...
Ah... jealous. Nicely coordinated turn over the ocean though, while taking in those views and a few snaps too :)
I loved that you flew over your house and timed it so your wife could film you as you flew overhead. Awesome video! Hope to see more in-flight videos from "Captain Philips" soon. :-)
Well done! You are one of a kind.
Great video Noel! Must have been so exciting to get into the pilots seat! Years ago my brother had a Cessna 170A. I really enjoyed going up flying with him!

It's always a party when someone squawks 7700. Hey Noel, you should give us flying tours of the Battle of Brittan.
Awesome landscape from the plane, loved the family bit!
Well done! Very brave and hope to see some more flying adventures from you.
Brilliant flight, well done! Great video as always!!
That was great Noel...we’ll done! 👍🇦🇺

I just flew in this aircraft out of Sandtoft down to Skegness and Back up ! Funny that your were in the same aircraft as me ! 😂😂
I did the same in New Zealand. Tho I first started my love of flying by skydiving
happy to see you from NZ, I'm from Hamilton,, all the best to you
That's not flying, it's falling with style!
I did'nt know you are a Pilot. Good flying after a long time on a break.
Noel, great that you’re back in the air! You should really try to get your instrument rating to become an even more proficient pilot. You will be able to fly in the clouds and not worry about the weather being VFR to go flying!
This was really neat! I cant wait to see more of these from time to time.
Well done mate one of if not the best video you have done!.
