    "Stop watching RUclips videos, stop watching tutorials, go out there and put the work in..."
    Quite possibly the best advice I've received from a RUclips video. Thanks.

    Pavel, you originally started posting because you found it enjoyable. Then you started "thinking too hard." You were putting up videos that you almost felt like you were forced to put up. That's not fun. Take it back to the beginning. Put up videos that are fun to you. That's what got you the userbase you have in the first place. :) You have a lot of informative videos on your channel already. You even have programs you can purchase. Just continue your journey, and post as you go. Precision jumping, whatever it is you do. Your awesome brother. Go back to your roots. Enjoy yourself. Don't overthink it. Have fun. :)

    Also, agree with some of the comments about marriage, honesty, as You seem like that kind of person.
    Listen, the times are hard and it will get even harder, NEVER completely sacrifice individuality for collectivity. Try to work on Your intuition more, observe people ( how they behave ), some of them are good, some of them might have hidden agendas ( check personality disorders, especially Cluster B ).
    Your still very young, let it sink in, bad times will pass so will the struggle.

  • @wyattchristiansen9089
    @wyattchristiansen9089 8 лет назад

    I agree, a lot of people ask me about working out, losing weight, eating, etc. I tell them the basic facts of it but in the end I'm always like "it's different for everyone. There are basic guidelines that can fit you, but you gotta find what works for you."
    I mean like genetics play a huge role in your physical appearance and strength. For example I have proportionally bigger and stronger quads than most people who weight lift, I got it from my dad and 4 years of barbell squats and football just encouraged the growth.

    There something to be said about no system. I tried no system for several months at a local gym. Had a really fun time, almost impossible to track progress though. I used a 3-day split routine to allow for muscle recovery. That's where the "routine" ended. Example, arms day i picked whatever interested me when i got to the gym. It might have been Close-grip supinated lat pull-downs and cable tricep extensions. That could be my whole workout! With tons of drop sets. Finish off with 100 reps each side of cable torso rotations. Excitement and enjoyment fill those kinds of workouts because i truly wanted to do every single exercise i chose. I really enjoyed my no-system protocol for the very simple fact that i could show up and workout any day of the week and know without a doubt i was going to have an awesome workout. Why? Because i would always be doing whatever i wanted and nothing else.

    • @iamjustamazin
      @iamjustamazin 8 лет назад

      In the end it is really about what works for you and what goals you set for yourself. However, It is very naive to strive towards a flag or a planche without a system or following a preset routine. Sure, if you have natural ability it may be possible. Same goes not just for calisthenics but also general fitness. I know people who use "no system" however have absolutely no progress and are unhappy about it.

    • @osbornk2000
      @osbornk2000 8 лет назад +1

      +Vladimir Makarov hah hah absolutely true 😄 That is why i was only on no-system for 2 months. Having a routine in the end is the best way to measure progress.

    • @wyattchristiansen9089
      @wyattchristiansen9089 8 лет назад

      The way I measure my progress is having max days throughout the year. Like comparing my max reps (in the range of 2-10) with a weight that's heavy for me. Or in calisthenics just seeing how many more push-ups I can do

    • @alexdelarge2095
      @alexdelarge2095 8 лет назад +1

      Try powerlifting - it gives you a lot of positive feedback early on, you can start it at any body weight (in fact, if you're overweight when you start you will get even better results), you don't need a good level of conditioning, and you don't have to worry too much about dieting. The fast early results are what should really get you "into" it though.
      Just make sure to watch enough basic tutorials to do the main lifts properly before you start (and film yourself while doing them to make sure you're doing it right) - I completely agree with Paul on what he says in this video for calisthenic movements and other types of activities (too many tutorials means too many ideas confusing your mind, plus you'll get discouraged any time you forget a tip or do something slightly different), but powerlifting must be done right or else the risk of injuries is exceedingly high (not really when you start, but when the weight gets heavy it's very important to be in a safe position).

      @TheF0rtress  8 лет назад +9

      You don't need a system, you're just looking for another excuse. Listen to your body, it'll tell you when it needs rest and when you can keep going.

    • @iamjustamazin
      @iamjustamazin 8 лет назад +4

      With all due respect, this is not a good advice. When it comes to fitness , especially as a beginner or when you start to learn a particular skill, it is difficult to recognise the limits. This is exactly how people injure themselves. Ideally, you should start off with a system, but make sure to experiment a lot AND listen to your body.

    • @justryan2070
      @justryan2070 8 лет назад

      For me, I don't know if I am getting the most results out of my body. Should you be doing dips, pushups, handstand work and pullups in the same workout? I have done some in the same workout, some split and I've found that random workouts give me random results. I don't know if I should be splitting the skill work from muscular work or if I should do exercises that hit the same muscle groups. Any thoughts?

Imo watching tutorials is good, because somehow it is a shortcut, because you get to know the best way to do some exercise. Thx for the video Paul!

    • @iamjustamazin
      @iamjustamazin 8 лет назад

      It sounds especially funny considering he was selling his fitness programme too. But yeah, I understand his philosophy, I just think that this philosophy is not for everyone. In my case, listening to my body did not work. I pushed myself and pushed until I injured myself. Now this injury will stay with me forever, and occasionally comes back. The best way IMHO is to follow a system but ALSO listen to your body to make the system easier or harder.

  • @echannel7330
    @echannel7330 8 лет назад

    “if I had waited long enough I probably never would have written
    anything at all since there is a tendency when you really begin to learn
    something about a thing not to want to write about it but rather to
    keep on learning about it always and at no time, unless you are very
    egotistical, which, of course, accounts for many books, will you be able
    to say: now I know all about this and will write about it.”
    Ernest Hemingway, Death In The Afternoon
    I agree with some of the comments here
    you're most probably burnt out because you're not following your own 'system'
    which had worked in the past:
    making videos about what YOU are currently interested to master yourself
    and if the people who watch you want more videos
    of your past interest, just point them to your previous body of work
    or that of others, or leave them to find their own way.

  • @august0rein
    @august0rein 8 лет назад

    I've got two things to say.
    First of all I think you as a man should look into finding a goal for you that is extremely difficult like maybe mastering that planche if you haven't yet, or join a competitive sport like wrestling which would challenge you to atay in top condition and home in on a skill. Whether or not you really want to get back into the calisthenics strength training again is up to you but it's been sort of sad seeing you lose so much passion in your last couple videos, and I think you're mostly just getting bored cause you don't see any adventurous new goals to topple.
    Second thing is a question. I've always been impressed with your ability to work out so often, this is the only health channel I've seen that doesn't reccomend rest days. Maybe it's just cause I weigh more than you but you seem to progress a lot quicker than me and I'm really not sure if I should be working out every day. Do you have any rituals or something that you feel might speed up your muscles rest? When you work out do you normally go to complete exhaust or do you try to retain some of your energy? If you have just any general advice on how to attack a work out more often and make it feel like it's actually helping it would be appreciated.

      If I remember correctly, she looked quite normal. Slim, but very strong.

    Paul, I understand your philosophy, but I think you are quite wrong to put this much emphasis on "following your heart/body". To me, it almost came off as slightly elitist (not entirely sure if this is a correct word for what I felt). For some - following your heart works. This is especially true if you have inherent talents and abilities. However, in many other cases following a particular system is a very efficient way to achieve something, be it mathematics, learning an instrument, calisthenics etc. IMHO it is best to start off with the specific system and then adjust it to your body, rather than blindly doing it.

      I agree with that to a point. I think you should understand the basics like proper form and avoid/recovering from injury. Like when I first started calisthenics I didn't really do proper form pull-ups until I watched one of his videos (I wouldn't stabilize my abs and kinda did a mini kip) but I never really had a system, I just went and worked out as often as I could and did sets and reps based on how I felt that day (granted I had weightlifting experience from football, so I had basic ideas of sets and reps).
      But also my friend and I did things like modifyPavel's W workout. Rather than doing 7 push-ups waiting 10 seconds then doing 6 and so on, we'd combine sets so say do 18 (7+6+5) rest 10 then do 10 (4+3+2+1) competing against each other for the faster time.
      I think maybe a structured learning period is good, but there's nothing wrong with learning as you go either.

      This is a very good point. His content certainly has changed since then. But also probably other factors like being a father, job, education, growing up, losing interest in some aspects of calisthenics played their part
