Louis Cato’s vocals are off the chart! Why oh why have we not heard him sing until now?
Check his tiny desk concert!
we have (but not enough)... look for the xmas tune they posted...
Eggcellent vocals !
Because he was backing up J Baptise. Ha. But yeh I've known about Louis for years. He's an incredible musician. Bass, Drums (Uber Jam with Scofield), Guitar!!
mostly because louis is a drummer, that is how he met John
I wish they would air this instead of the commercials
No, it's far more important that we know what brand of toilet paper to buy! 😂
Are you too young to be paying bills or what?
@@pageljazzOr pizza.
I have been that for years! Give it as an option. No commercial/ band music override. It's 21st century technology people! Come 0n!
Well, the bills gotta be paid, but how awesome is it that they've posted this GREAT non-commercial break on RUclips?!?! Now I wish they would ALWAYS post ALL of these on RUclips each episode!
Thank you, John Scofield. Amazing as always.
Thanks for taking the muzzle off Louis Cato and let us soak in his brilliance!!
If I could speak as well as John Scofield plays guitar….the phrasing on that guy is beyond anything.
I met John Scofield on the sidewalk outside The Blue Note in NYC many years ago. My buddy who’d recently played with him introduced me to him as a “former pro” trumpet player.
John kindly and genuinely inquired why I’d given up the horn, (which I hadn’t, only making a living on it!).
Though he could have (certainly most would!) just blown by my pedestrian/uninteresting history, he paused to ask.
Now whenever I hear him play anything recorded before or after that brief encounter, it’s with different and more appreciative ears.
MORE Scofield, PLEASE~~~~~❤❤❤❤❤
I am Absolutely gobsmacked by what I just saw and heard! PLEASE "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" PLEASE post more of these "Commercial Breakdowns" in the future. 🙏🏼
Agree 💯 That was fantastic!
I'm also pretty gobsmacked 😂. Got me dancing round the bathroom 😅
That guitar duet was awsome, brought a huge smile to me face, thank you.
This is smokin'!
Louis...damn! John...damn.
The whole band...damn.
Exactly this!!! YES!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Scofield is phenomenal. One of my very guitarists.
He's definitely a very very guitarist, no doubt about that.
@@pendragon6207 He's the most guitarest guitarist.
Love that you had SCOFIELD on the show!!!
Now THAT was Necessary! No reason to keep that a secret for the in house audience only.
Oh. My. Gawd. Louis Cato, guitarist/singer/bandleader extraordinaire?! What I can't believe is that nobody in the comments section yet realizes what a blisteringly good drummer he is as well - everyone please check out old YT footage of him KILLING the drums in Scofield's Uberjam band as well as with bass god Marcus Miller (also when he had long hair :). What an amazing overall talent he is!!
Cato and Scofield trading solos was incredible! I wish I was there to experience it in person
I'm sitting in a restaurant listening and it's all I can do not to break into applause. ❤😊🎶😊❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The "Commercial Breakdown" needs its own channel. Cato is a beasty singer and the Allman-style tag is bomb.
I loved Scofield when he was with Dr. John and now too of course!!!!!
Wow! Lot a talent on that stage. Good to hear them cut loose with such a legend. Outstanding jam!
Sure would be nice if Louis could adopt Scofield into the Late Show band! Always happy to hear folks so beautifully trading 8s!
That man can sing!
About goddam time! Tightest band in the United States and y'all been bogarting them for Christ sake!
I’m really impressed with how Louis Cato channels Scofield’s own tone and phrasing when they trade licks.
Was thinking the same thing! Don't think I could tell who was who if I was only listening. Louis is absurdly talented.
This was phenomenal. Can you imagine going back to taping the show and not basking a little longer in the music that had just taken place? Stephen Colbert must have great taste, because from the beginning, his show has low-key fostered some of the best funk and jazz musicians of the day.
Very excellent. What a great band, and of course, Mr Scofield, a legend.
Haven’t been watching this show for some time… but I knew Louis Cato as a drummer for John Scofield and Marcus Miller. I had no idea he could sing and play guitar, nor that he had taken over as the band leader for the Late Show.
Soooooo goooooood! John is legend!
Yeah, John Legend!
Fantastic how Cato’s playing works so well with Scofield. Yo, Colbert!!! We need more of this depth in the music and in your interview subjects. Please continue with your amazing ability to bring depth and silliness to your program. Cheers.
Oh I wish you guys ALWAYS let us share in this joy!
I love Sco…they were definitely “hittin the the note” especially during the duo guitar solo
That was pretty damn great
Yes, blown away by Louis Cato's voice, his guitar tone, and his guitar playing. Do not usually hear that on the aired part of the show. And these performances during commercials have got to be a regular thing. Heard about Scofield for years, finally actually heard him.
Scofield is one of the most influential and greatest musicians! I can never get enough of his tone and choices :)
This is 10x better than anything that was on The Grammys!!
Yeah Scofield rules. Please bring Medeski Martin and Wood one day for a super duper funky jazz jam!
What a great funky take! I only know this song from Humble Pie's "Live at the Fillmore" hard rockin' version with Steve Marriott (sp?) on vocals and Peter Frampton on guitar (pre-solo) but there's a classic original that I'm going to dig up pronto! Thanks to Louis, the band and John Scofield!
Jon Scofield recorded this version of a Ray Charles original (written by Jo Armstead, Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson) with John Mayer on guitar and vocals.
There’s also a John Mayer Trio recording of this song, if you crave it with a bit of Stevie Ray Vaughan flavor
On top of what others have replied, there is a whole album of Ray Charles tunes “That’s What I Say”. Very accessible album with other stars on it. Sco is unlike anyone else of guitar.
The John Mayer live in LA version is a must listen.
This is just AWESOME!!!!!!!
I got'a admit, this is the first Colbert clip I've had the stomach to watch twice. ...and now three times! Bravo!
More of this! LOVE IT!
Most excellent.
'Sco is my fav jazz guitarist and I dig this funked up cover of a classic Humble Pie rock tune. Soulfully smooth vocals by Louis Cato to boot. The call and response solos by Cato and 'Sco is icing on a delicious cake.
Yes. Yes. Yes. 🙌🏼 THIS is exactly what we need…so *WE* don’t need no doctor! 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
This song is an oldie, but a goodie: it was a hit, my grandma loved this song!!!
Who wrote that song originally??
@@ESP77769 the one and only, Ray Charles
@@ESP77769 According to Google Jo Armstead, Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote the song, first released by Ashford in August 1966. Ray Charles released it in October 1966.
Dadgum, that's good stuff! I listened to my dad's "Blue Matter" record when I was a teenager and have been a Scofield fan ever since
Louis and John need to get themselves to a recording studio and cut an album together!
Louis has played drums for Scofield both in studio albums and in tours, when drums were his main instrument. He can do anything, what a musician
Louis Cato and John Scofield just made my day.🔥🔥
Top 5 best soloists of all time in my opinion. Sooo much melody and feel good lord
This was so good.....I had no idea this could happen during the ads on the late show....Steve
Mein Held. I love Scofield,
Man, the trade-offs at the end were just killer!!
Hell yeah! Thank you for posting! I was asking for this.
Still THE best band in late night!
Why has the band not released an album? Or several?
MORE commercial breakdowns , please!!!!!
Such a favorite, haven't seen him play in years. THANK YOU!!!
Cato rocks it old school!
And Scofield isnt playing. He's channeling it 😊t😊h😊rough his goatee.
what a treat
Thanks posting…. Sounds Great!!
Sweet Jesus! Could Lewis be anymore funky; so smooth and sweet. ❤
Fantastic! I wanna hear lots more commercial breakdowns!
Killing! Don't need no doctor! That's one hell of a funky groove!
This just might have kept Stephen out of the hospital if he'd heard this tune a few months ago! Stay healthy, all!
A+
Sco is killin it and so is the whole band
Great arrangement, masterfully performed.
small world, Louis was playing fill in shows for John years ago, what a unique energy together. Liked the Version of this cover John did on leno years ago! Colbert is about as likeable as a root canal but admittedly great to see Sco and Louis in the house!
That was great to see Louis Cato and John Scofield perform together, they are both great guitarists!
Cool to see Scofield out and about. He'll be in LA soon!.
Yes, more of this please!
Great song with amazing vocals and that superb first guitar solo, but then it took off with those dueling guitar solos at the end with a fantastic resolution. This was a special performance, so, yeah, more of this.
The guy is a monster musician.. plays everything through the roof. Look for Sco and Cato playing Jungle Fiction, where Cato is playing the most amazing drums you've ever heard.
🎼🎵🎶❤🔥SUPERSTHANK y'all,, Louis, band & Mr. Sco; you said it: 'EXACTLY!' Peace - even in NYC - with these cats in yer scene! 🫵😹😺😸💖😇
Sco just gets cooler as he gets older. His groove is impeccable. The trading was the shit.
Nothing short of BadAss one and all!
Man! Scofield! Thank you🎸
This has just made my day -AND WEEK-! What a fantastic and unexpected surprise!
Hot dang!
Saw Scofield last year. Crazy good!
this is sick. Never thought I would be seeing my johnny mans on the colbert show.
Wow, a commercial network show that features Sco!! Never thought I’d see stuff like this, especially right now while music is dying
Ok. That put a big smile on my face! Grrrreatt!! 😀
Sweet with the harmonies at the end, and those weird harmknics he did when he passed it off were so cool😊
This was phenomenal! The whole band were on fire! You can tell they were loving every second of it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
BTW John Schofield and Louis Cato have history - search for their names together on youtube and you'll see Louis drumming for John Schofield many years ago!
You need to add this each night Please Please.
Just phenomenal, but not unexpectedly so. I've seen Scofield live six times, and each time, he managed to blow my mind. He's been my favorite guitar player for more than thirty years (the first album of his I bought - on vinyl - was "Still Warm," back in eighty-five. It's still one of my favorite fusion records, to this day. His playing is as distinctive as anyone's, and his improv ability is as deep as anyone's. I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him several times, and I can tell you that he's as great a human being as he is a guitarist. I've got nothing but love for the man, and he's clearly playing as well as I've ever heard him. Thanks so much for posting this. Fantastic playing from everyone!
I agree. John Is a Genius. After two notes you can understand Who Is the guitarist: a unique sound and personal harmonic choices make him so impressive. I love his old albums too, with Chambers and Grainger solid as a rock!!!
Legend. They were both tremendous.
Louis played drums on a Sco tour a few years ago. He was slayin' it.
First heard Scofield on Miles Davis' "Star People" album. Seen him about half a dozen times. He's an absolute beast.
This is fantastic! Not long ago I heard Louis and the band leading into the commercial break with the Crusaders' "Put It Where You Want It". I would have loved to hear that in its entirety!
Please put more of this up on the channel!
INSANE!!! 🤩
I concur with many of the other comments here. We need to hear a lot more of this band. Please post more
THE man Sco!!!!! MASTER!!
Damn, what a vibe Louis, awesome brother !!!
fantastic version - great solo !!! best wishes from germany!
This band can do anything.
Fine musicians!
This is awesome! More like this please.
More Commercial Breakdowns, please. Thank you.
Louis Cato has an amazing voice and range! We need more of him!!!
Wow. Louis Cato just blew my mind. never truly heard his vocals before, he needs some more airplay. brilliant.
Scofield is like red wine. He gets better as he ages...
