    Why is everyone SO angry and disliking the video?? Maybe it wasn't the Greatest video of All Time....but it is as advertised. He did play both and gave some basic explanations.... not clickbait or an utterly useless video, so I don't get it. Did I miss something??

    I like his style. Very practical and he hits the points that are important to me!

      I also like that he plays styles that best express the knob positions: arpeg for clean, bluesy on crunch, and a bit chug on full gain.

    It doesn't have that shield in order to get better ventilation, more gain means more heat.

    Yup, settled for the MT and have been using it as my main amp for half a year, that thing is great. I wish they had an fx loop but well, the sound of DT is too compressed for my liking.

    Why not both? If you have an ABY pedal and a stereo 4x12, they could sound awesome together.

    What's the difference between 4 and 8 ohms? I'm not sure what it really means or how much effect it has on the volume or sound of an amp

    I think they added and sacraficed stuff on the dark. Something i wonder about js the tiny terror also has no loop they say its cause it gets drive from its rectifier tube where as the dark dark terror has a loop cause it gets gain earlier in the chain. Im so curious how each of those amps uses that 1 tube

    1st vid that shows how much higher the gain can really sound on the Dark. Thank you.

    5 years later, and they now have a line of clones of these amps available here in Brazil fot like under half the Orange prices. It's by a brand called Tom Sawyer, and the amps are called Mark Twenty (Micro Terror) and Dark Twenty (Micro Dark).
    Just order the Dark Twenty and I'll report how it sounds. Might even try swapping tubes from my collection!

    Any idea how to make the Micro Dark function more like the Terror in terms of EQ? I like that the Terror has more mids and highs, which isn't the case with the Dark. However, as you already noted, the Terror doesn't have as much gain as the Dark, and I don't want to have to buy a distortion pedal (which a good one will cost almost as much as the Terror itself) in addition to the Amp. That being said, the Dark just sounds too muddy to me and I'd rather have lots of mids and highs. Thoughts?

      Doppelsöldner eq pedal or boost pedal, active pickups and single coil pickups are a few options

    • @johnchang7
      @johnchang7 7 лет назад

      Doppelsöldner why not invest in an eq pedal and call it a day. You can probably get a decent used one for under 50 and you can then shape your tone to whatever.

    I think they changed the solid state power amp circuit, so it could drive 8 ohms cabs (since those are much more common than 4 ohms).
    But, the basic difference between 4 ohms and 8 ohms is that 4 ohms needs twice more electric current (that's the "A" or "mA" rating you usually see in power supplies) than 8 ohms to deliver the same power output.

    • @sofajams662
      @sofajams662 2 года назад

      Orange relabelled from 4ohm to 8ohm, as the version with 2 8ohm cabs was blowing/overheating the heads at high volume prolonged use. Bedroom rockers can still use both speakers at low to mid volume and not have any detrimental impact.
      But yeah, that’s the main reason these amps changed from 4ohm to 8ohm

    on the clean the dark is a bit cleaner, on the crunch and full gain the dark is more modern, more compressed but also less lively. i think with a booster, a compressor, maybe an eq, the micro terror can sound like the other one but it doesn’t go the other way around.

    I use my micro terror for ambiance music weirdly. It's wonderful.

  • @patrickhayden1977
    @patrickhayden1977 6 лет назад +1

    I like the Micro Terror better. I have a Dark and turning the gain knob past 6 just ends up in unusable fizz. It’s a nasty solid state buzzsaw. The Terror retains its tube essence when maxing the gain.
    In addition the effects loop on the dark is essentially an insert AFTER the volume control, so you can clip your effects when turning up loud.
    These amps are cool and cute and make ok practice/gig backups. They are great at the price point, but you get what you pay for.

    First off, I'm a beginner player. I bought the micro dark terror because it was highly rated and inexpensive. I also bought it as a combo with the ppc108. Didn't know any better. I want to upgrade the cab, but looking for an alternative to the ppc112. I'm sure it's great, but $379 for a 1x12 just doesn't seem like good value. For example, I can get a fender bassbreaker 212 for $30 bucks less and get a 2x12. Any suggestions for a decent cab for a good value. Doesn't have to be the "cheapest " but would like to stay under $350

      Dude there are PLENTY used cabs on eBay and stuff. Second hand is extremely good value for money with speaker cabs. So maybe you can even get an orange 212 for 300 idk.
      There are used 412 Marshall cabs for like 200-300 bucks all the time

    I thought the micro terror sounded better in all ways. I bought both and do play metal. In the end i got a tiny terror and ditched the micro.. Although the tiny dark has an fx loop amd my tt does not :(

      +Anthony Davies Dude he copied other people's work. That's not bile, that's pointing out plagiarism. Now the other comment I left on this video, that's bile. I was just trying to be as ridiculously disrespectful as I could. And as far as my videos. I don't make videos because I don't know how to play guitar or use a camera. And if I don't know how to do something, I don't try and pass it off as if I do, like his guy does.

    I think I'd go with the micro terror for doom metal as it sounds like it should have enough gain for the job. fuzz pedals would do the rest.

    • @MarcAndreLevesque
      @MarcAndreLevesque 8 лет назад +1

      The micro terror does not take pedals that well. You easily get digital clipping in the preamp, the Micro Dark does not have that issue, has a fx loop and has more than enough gain on tap. Like Eric said, if you need gain, Micro Dark is your only logical choice.

    • @jamesstonehouse3448
      @jamesstonehouse3448 8 лет назад

      That's a bit of an impasse. Doom isn't a particularly high gain thing (I currently use an amp only 2 gain stages). Mmaybe I'll just have to finish building my 20 tube amp and run it through an over sized 2x12 bass cab

    • @MarcAndreLevesque
      @MarcAndreLevesque 8 лет назад +2

      The good thing is that the Micro dark can do crunch very well with some eq tweak so I imagine you could get a doom sound quite easily. Worst case, put an eq in the fxloop

    Fuck the haters dude it's cool how you took the time to do a vid like this. Only thing i would say is when you demo the amps it sounds like mic is clipping from the volume. Lol its so much juice comin out those awesome lil things i guess.

    Seriously, I am having a VERY HARD time choosing between these two (and I don't want both)!! I play Mostly Rock types of music (not just Classic Rock or whatever....Several forms of Rock styles)....but I used to play Mostly Metal and still do incorporate Metal into my playing at times. They are VERY similar overall, but it's those small differences that make a HUGE difference!! The Micro Dark is basically an updated, improved version, yet the Micro Terror seems to have a better "punchy" sound sometimes. I would go with the Terror, but I am actually struggling with choosing for just a few reasons: (1) The Dark has More Gain stages....but I don't actually need the extra "distortion" Most of the time (2) The Dark *seems* to have a slightly better Clean sound for some reason (3) This one may be the one making the choice Most difficult. The Dark has an effects loop and the Terror does NOT!! I would just pass on them and get another Brand, but I actually like the sound of these little amps and have wanted an Orange amp for years. I like the sound and would like to have one of these....for the money they are Amaze-Tits!!
