How to change the Ice and water filter in a whirlpool refrigerator. The filter I used also works on a number of different refrigerators including Maytag, Amana, and Jenn-Air. I'll also show you how to reset the warning light once the refrigerator has been changed.
Before purchasing one you'll want to check the model on your refrigerator, to be you are getting the right cartridge for your model.
I didn't mention this in the video but the recommendation on the cartridge says to run 4 gals of water through the system before using. So you won't want to drink from it right away, flush it out first.

You must an important step. You should run about a gallon of water through the water dispenser to flush any contaminants from the new filter.

You don't have to flush out the new filter when you take the Caps off the top you'll hear the air come out they fill them with air to blow out anything in there

thank you so much - we bought a house that has this refrigerator that uses this filter - my boyfriend changed it last time and the door had been off so the little plastic bar on the side just fell out. without that in place, the filter doesn't pop out easily, so i wasn't certain how to get the old filter out safely - i managed to apply pressure where the bar would to slide the old filter out & slipped the bar back in with the new filter =)

Thank you! Our water filter would essentially tern the water off after about a month, so the fridge wouldn’t make ice or drinking water until we paid out the $50.00 for a new water filter. Eventually I realized that you can just remove the water filter and leave it out so you can have ice and cold drinking water. I just installed an inline filter on the back that I only have to replace once every couple years instead of paying $50.00 bucks a month for a new filter fyi

Thanks you very much for the video the I had no idea where my filter was located even went thru the owners manual don’t tell you that’s located in the bottom not that you need to open the Refrigerator door in order to be able to see where it goes either. Honestly THANKS!! Also for the reset part as well!

Thanks for the helpful video. I just watched this and replaced the filter today on my fridge. When I put in the new filter, a little water came out but I guess that is normal. One issue I did notice, after I put in the new filter and closed the filter door, I tried to reopen the filter door but it only opens up part way. I don't want force it or it seems it will snap off. Did you notice this when you replaced your filter?
Yes, same thing happened to me, you can use a little force but be extremely careful.
Do I have to take out the air from the ac and hot before removing the control valve from the bottom?
Will u explain how to make the water colder than the one set by the factory?

I have had a Whirlpool refrigerator for three years, but I have never used the ice maker or water dispenser. However, the filter light is still on. Under such circumstances, I do not belive I even need to install a new one. Am I right? Thanks!

What does it mean if the water pressure is low after you change the filter
Why it is when I push the filter in and close the filter door it feel like the filter is pushing out. Is this normal? Seam to take a lot of force.

Hello from Ohio. I had this same Whirlpool unit delivered recently. After the guys placed it we noticed the doors weren't level. Then when we opened the freezer door, the two lower door shelves were striking the inner door frame. They were unable to resolve so they took it back. Were waiting for another unit. Could be 30 days. I bought myself a compact to live out of for now. I sure hope I made the right decision. I was restricted on selection due to wife wants & needs and most importantly space. How do you like yours? How much are you paying for those water filters (1 every 6 months? ) Is there also an air filter? Thanks Tom
Six months is a good ball park figure. Sometimes more often, and sometimes less. When you see water flow diminishing, that is a good sign that the filter is needing changed out. Different supplies have different levels of particulate matter.

I had done this a few times but now I did it. It doesn’t want to push water thru. It comes thru with no filter. So I’m thinking it’s the filter connection. But I accidentally took that little door off and now I can’t get the filter off.
I wish u include how many liters/gallon of water to flush out after filter replacement.

I"m sorry I don't. You may have to ask a plumber. One tool I've used in the past is justanswer.com and they have been really good helping me out with tougher questions.

I just did replace mine today and usually I hear the sound of the air coming out after you push the filter in but didn't hear anything this time. Do you think the filter working just fine?
I don't know, I usually hear the same thing. You may want to double check. I'm just not sure.
@Keepin Home Up I've been taking it in and out from the housing a couple of times now, but still no sound yet I notice that the filter is a little heavier compared to when I first opened the packaging.last question how do you know if the filter isn't working?thanks for the reply much appreciated.great video by the way keep it up.another subscriber here.
@@landocustodio6689 I"m really not sure if the filter is good or not. It's probably heavier because it's full of water now. Mine was heavier as well. I would check to see if there is a number or email on the package to reach out to the company who manufactured the filter. They will have a better idea, it could be normal, but I'm not an expert on that the company can tell you for sure.

Mine came out when I opened it up, I'm sorry I don't know how I would handle it if it didn't. If you do find a way you can post it here and maybe it can help someone else in your situation.

When do you turn the water back on?
You actually don't have to turn it off when you're changing the filter.
