    I wish river monsters was on a streaming service. Disney plus has one of his shows which I'm thankful for. This was my favourite program for a long time and still is to this day.

    I haven't seen all of river monsters, but the one that stuck with me the most was the one about the vampire squid. Knocking a fisherman out of his boat at night and swarming him. Their mouths are beaklike, it would've been a horrendously painful way to die.

    A fellow registered nurse, some decades ago, had a tank of piranhas, not this particular subspecies, but larger brownish ones. He decided they were too much to take care of and decided to transfer them to the aquarium at the San Francisco museum of natural sciences. I and other coworkers agreed to help him load them into his pickup truck for transport. Supposedly, there was some kind of agreement to not prosecute him for owning them. Before loading them into the drums for transport, he fed them many, many goldfish. It was... something watching them tearing into and consuming them. We were careful to NOT let our fingers go over the lip of the plastic barrels while we loaded them and tied them down in the covered bed of the truck. I recall looking into their eyes and saw only the interpretation of sheer hunger and the desire to eat.

    That first part with the lampreys scared the crap out of me in Upstate New York we have freshwater lakes and ponds that have leeches in lampreys in them and I couldn't even imagine one that big like an actual sea lamprey attaching to you! That just hit me on the visceral level and I'm going to be having nightmares for days! And as for the Piranhas pool, what the hell would he have done if those things had started to swarm would he have been able to get out fast enough? I think he definitely could have had a bunch of cuts on down to the bone before he got out of that water I wouldn't have been doing that s***! LOL.
    Also, he was really calm when he walked in there what would have happened if he had like done a cannonball into that s*** and started thrashing? I think it might have turned out a bit differently

    i live in new zealand and have definantly seen a couple of wild eels that could easily drown a man, one was a big boy at id say 5 foot5 and a girth of a 2.25 litre coke bottle whilst fishing at a stocked kids fishing pond when me and my youngest bro where down there when i was still legal to fish there. it would definantly have the power to drag anyone under

  • @derekwall200

    are the longfin eels really that aggressive, and would they really eat someone unfortunate enough to cross paths with them?

  • @vanhattfield8292
    @vanhattfield8292 Год назад +1

    I was surprised that when he was doing the experiment with the eels that he didn't at least where a harness with a rope attatched so that if things turned bad they could pull him to safety without having to enter the water themselves. That could have gone bad.

    Wouldn't there need to be a group of like 5,000 piranha to eat a bus full of people just based on their stomach size? Google says they eat about 2.5 grams per day and are usually in schools of 25 to 100. I'm sure they could eat a lot more if they were gorging on a big meal but still it seems like there would have to be thousands of piranha to do that.

    • @ScottKenny1978
      @ScottKenny1978 Год назад

      Yes, it'd take a huge swarm of them.
      I actually suspect that was predatory catfish and/or gators/Crocs, not piranha.
