- Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - 1996 World Figure Skating Championships, Pairs' Long Program - Oksana Kazakova and Artur Dmitriev of Russia suffered a problematic middle section of their Long Program, where Oksana tripped and fell, causing them her to not be able to finished the circular footwork and then missing out on the lift that followed immediately afterwards. They would place 5th in the Long Program and ended dropping from 4th to 5th Place overall.

I LOVE watching this pair skate. They do things no other skaters do. They attempt some incredible moves and, unfortunately, sometimes they fail, but even in failure they are the best on the ice.

Лучшие ❤
Артур великолепен, Оксана очень милая
Still find this program with flaws more fascinating then the top two.
2 years later they won Olympics in Nagano!
In the fluff piece, they said that they did not want "to be a perfect imitation of Mishkutenok and Dmitriev, but to show that they are themselves unique unlike any others before them." However, that's exactly what these two were trying to imitate!! Artur and Tamara simply tried to make Oksana a carbon copy of Natalia. Unfortunately for them, Oksana Kazakova was not the flexible and fluid skater Natalia was and could never achieve some of the great positions Natalia was able to do so effortlessly.
They are great but 4 major mistakes. He did a double toe instead of a triple while she did the triple, fall on a throw, then the worst 2 of all falling on the footwork and taking a long time to recover, then her stumbling as they went into a lift after and having to abort it. Some of their marks and their 5th place finish was really high considering. I think the judges were going to give them the gold easily for how high they scored with such mistakes.
Why copy what him and Nathalia did?
artur just looks big and fat. what off ice training did he do exactly?
vistaprime none. He barely made it through long programs. In Nagano he looked like he was dying at the end of the program. They only won the Olympics cuz everyone else made so many mistakes.
@@jamesfox6909 Lol Nah that's a lie. They went all out and simply out skated the rest of the pairs that night and if I remember correctly they were the only pairs that got a standing ovation in Nagano so it's fair to say they had the best skate on that day.
