      Me 2, I like to hear or see a video about Kratom when I'm just on it like now :) the lack of medical help made me halfly an addict tho even tho i need it for pain. That's what happens when you leave ppl to self-medicating.

    It's technically a drug but that doesn't mean it's dangerous. Been taking it for 5 years and it's better than any pill I've been on. Great vid :)

      So many people find kratom better that medications, which have side effects and are addictive. What symptoms were you taking kratom for? Do you use other herbs?

      The Mental Health Herbalist I have migraines very frequently and I had depression/anxiety. Been on 6 different antidepressants and none were worth the side effects. I had no sex drive and bad sleeping problems. I've researched kratom a lot and still can't find any reason to not take it.

      Kratom will help you. But you need to get to the root causes which most likely are emotional, psychological and spiritual. Are you on a journey of awakening? We need to be on a journey of awakening each day.

    I started taking kratom for opiate withdrawal (after ending a buprenorphine reduction) not only cure the mild listless withdrawal but really helps mood and motivation and I haven't even thought of opiate relapse. Good for me, and good for society, as when I was on heroin I was a one man crime wave.
    Kratom use should be encouraged, not restricted

    I got myself hooked on opiate pain killers in my 20's. I went the suboxone route to get clean but getting off the suboxone is very difficult as well. It takes such a toll on ones mental health and on ones physical health. I then discovered Kratom and it changed everything. I got off the suboxone and transitioned to the kratom. I still use Kratom on occasion but I try to keep it in its place. My point is that it helped me get off of Big pharma drugs and it helps kill pain (which is why I took opiates in the first place). Be responsible with it but its so much better than the alternatives.

    I was almost one of those ppl that died due to Doctors getting me strung out on pain pills (Norcos, Percocet, Oxycotton, Morphine, somas,and on and on) I was hooked on pain pills for 7 years, 4 of those years I did not have anything to worry about cas every month I got my pills and I was set! The next 3 years the Dr. completely cut me off of all these pills he got me hooked on. So then I tried "doctor shopping" which basically means to keep changing my doctor until I find one to prescribe the pain Meds I needed. Long story short, I eventually gave up with doctors and started buying other people's pills, which is the reason I then turned to Heroin because pain pills got way to expensive! And I mean ppl got super fucking greedy wanting 5-6.00 a pill for norcos, 10mg perks were 8.00 ea, morphine ppl wanted 15-30-50.00 a pill, and Oxys I gave up buying because ppl wanted 3.00 a mg!
    So I turned to heroin which lead me to not giving a fuck about anything and I started using other drugs... and I consider myself lucky because I never got into shooting up heroin I always stayed to smoking it off foil. But I agree with this video! I am living fucking proof that Kratom is a good thing, and it Truly saved my life! I am going on almost a month clean which I did Cold turkey! And some of you may be saying (oh wow a whole month clean big deal) Yea it is a big fucking deal for me! Ever since I was 17 (I am now 27) since I was 17 every single day and I Mean EVERY SINGLE DAY I was high, and I always had either pain Meds or heroin. So not doing any of that shit for almost a month is a fucking HUGE THING FOR ME, I also didn't find out about Kratom until I was 3-4 days in the withdrawal, I am currently still using Kratom I get (Krave brand) the capsules. I prefer the (Bali) kind because it does help me not get any cravings and it takes away the body pains I get throughout the day, but I also get (Meang Da) to and I mix them, but in all honesty I take more of the (Bali "Red Vein") then the (Meang Da "Green Vein") I take both because the Bali is more of a pain pills feeling not a high but a feeling it's hard to put into words. And the Meang da is more of a energetic and social feeling. But again Kratom saved my life! I was buying about a gram and a half a day of heroin and I would run out in the morning and it was all bad, I got out of the bad situations I was in due to the sketchy ass people you gotta deal with. And now all I do is smoke Weed and take 4 capsules of Bali Kratom when I wake up, and sometime later take anywhere from 2-3 Meang da, along with 2-3 Bali and I'm usually good through out the whole day, a few times I had to take a couple more a couple hours before bed cas I wasn't tired (I have insomnia I have had it since I was a kid) also when I take the capsules I don't pop them and swallow them, I open them up and poor them either in a cup or just directly in my mouth

      Thanks for sharing your story here. The medical system would not care if you did not make it. You are proof that there is a way out and herbs like Kratom and even cannabis can help people with opiate problems. Now you have a life purpose, I am not sure what that is, but you must find it and embrace it. You need to go deeper in to your spiritual self and learn to live fully and freely and along the way you will help so many others. Peace brother

    • @intuitiveguru4143

      Thank you, you don't know how many people you are going to help that I know. Most of them are from 16 - to 60s. I am one of them. Dr started me on pain meds for fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. All legit. Used most types, now just methadone. I have been researching this for a while but your story has sealed the deal. I will be promoting you and your story, along with Kratom. Especially since we can get it in Calif! I was looking into Ibogaine but no one could afford it. It seems to have similar effects as the Ibogaine does because it attacks so many different addiction types, meth, opiates, alcohol, food, BP, and the list goes on! That will help this apartment complex that has so many strung out people on different things, this is a blessing and so is your story.
      God Bless You and those you touch.Amen

      Thats great Brother, I never tried Kratom, it sounds like I would like it. I like my roxi because as you said, its really not a stoned out high, pain subsides and a feeling of peacefulness seems to settle in,,, in general, its just a nice state to be in and you are in control nothing like being drunk or impaired. The pills are working out well with me, but hey, if I could stop them or even cut down, it would be great. One month dude, I applaud you ! Keep it up Brother ! Your a young man with a lot ahead of you, you will certainly end up dead or jailed if you continue with Herion and Alcohol,, bad, bad choice for anyone ! God Bless you my friend,,, :)

      That´s awesome to hear! Whick kind of Kratom are you taking?

  • @calebhartz
    @calebhartz 7 лет назад +33

    15:00 Key point made. Addiction problems are from the damage done by the substance. Liking a substance and wanting to continue use might constitute addiction in some people's eyes but we shouldnt lump this sort of an addiction with truly harmful ones. Very important distinction.
    Kratom helped me move away from a daily alcohol habit. I was feeling the negative effects of alcoholism. Kratom side effects are quite minimal in comparison. Also I havent been sick since starting kratom use over a year ago. In contrast, when I was drinking alcohol almost daily I would get a cold a few times a year.
    Kratom is a helpful plant. It should never be banned. How horrible to ban it when it offers a much safer alternative to many prescription drugs. Thanks for the video MHH. I will share this with our American Kratom Association (AKA) group.

    • @thebotanicalmind
      @thebotanicalmind  7 лет назад +5

      Thanks Caleb, yes its important to understand addiction. Addiction must have more than personal consequences, its has relationship effects, social effects, financial effects, etc... Great to hear you story of recovery, Kratom has such potential if the politicians allow the facts to emerge, rather than believing the lies from some sections of the scientific community and medical community that have vested interests in people being dependent on the current sick health care system. Thanks for sharing this video and for you comments.

    • @calebhartz
      @calebhartz 7 лет назад +4

      This is nothing we don't already know. Kratom can cause physical dependency and w/d. We know these things. Ive been through kratom w/ds. It sucks for a good 4 days. Teaches you quickly to turn down the kratom use to a level that doesn't do that. For me, I went from 15 grams a day to 0 (bad idea lol) back up to 7 a month later, down to 1-4 grams a day (where I recommend people stay if possible). I haven't taken kratom in two weeks. It's not a big deal at all. I don't crave it. It's just like having beer in the fridge. It's nice to have on hand but you don't need it unless you use every day and develop that habit along with physical dependency.

      Caleb Hartz it's not addictive really not any more than coffee. The problem is that people who are bipolar like myself. Take it to treat our illness. It's like taking white vein kratom gives me Mania. Which is awesome the problem is if I allow myself to run out I'm sure I will go into a deep depression. I will not run out. I'll move to Bali if I have to.

      Caleb Hartz It is said that tumeric aids in digestion and is very good for inflammation and pain as well. The bioactive chemical in tumeric named curcumin is usually coupled with piperine(pepper extract) which then is absorbed in the body easier. So mixing curcumin and piperine helps kratom get absorbed in digestive system and body so it takes less time to get positive effects and prolongs the effects of kratom as well.

      always take coconut oil as a carrier with the turmeric or else only 20% of the turmeric will work :) I take one pill cocnutoil from LINDENS and 2 turmeric from LINDENS. do not go over the dosage of turmeric caue it can actually give sympthoms if taken in to high doses...

    The race to ban Kratom has nothing to do with it being dangerous and has everything to do with pharmaceutical companies wanting more and more money. If we're using Kratom, we're not using their chemical 'medications' . I have used Kratom for around 6-7 years for chronic pain. Had I not discovered Kratom, I would've had no choice but to end up on narcotic pain meds by now. Thank you for this video and the thorough information.

    Thank you. I’ve been taking Kratom for about seven years now and I’ve actually learned something from you today. I’m going to be using your presentation as the basis for my presentation for my local group. I was sad, but not shocked to hear that it’s been made illegal in Australia. We all know why. In the United States. We are very fortunate to have the American Kratom Association. They work very very hard to keep Kratom safe and available.

    Kratom itself does have its own withdrawals, very similar to opiate withdrawals, yawning, watery eyes, runny nose, chills, restless legs, that being said kratom helped me kick a 10 yr Vicodin habit, even though the w/d's are there, it is in no way comparable to opiate w/d's its severity and duration is way less, if u measure on a 1 to 10 scale opiate's would definitely be a 10, while kratom would be a 3 or 4.

      I imagine if you were using it for a while it would have these withdrawal symptoms, but hey so does sugar

    • @sanctumsomega
      @sanctumsomega 6 лет назад +2

      Kratom WD's are nasty. Do not let the hype fool you. Its a great tool to get off abusing harder drugs for sustained periods. But, you are still hitting opiate receptors when you take it. Speaking from 18 years of fighting opiate abuse (12 of those with knowledge of Kratom) , your body chemistry still has to go the process of normalizing without opiates. These weekend warriors (the actual responsible drug users) love to claim there is no WD with Kratom. But, if you only shot heroin 2 times a week, you wouldn't have any WD either....but...there is no such thing as doing a "little heroin"

      The Mental Health Herbalist Dude, I love and respect kratom as a healing herb, but to compare the withdrawals to sugar is reckless and absurd. The withdrawals can be agonizing and scary, bringing on depression and feelings of impending doom. I’ve kicked everything from heroine to Kratom. Great video but the dangers of dependence needs to be examined more closely even by enthusiasts.

    Thank you for all of these great facts! I started using Kratom back in 2008 for help with bouts of depression. I have always had odd reactions to medications and cannot handle the side effects of all the different antidepressants I have tried. I have also been losing my hearing for 3 decades and finally found it it was from frequent use of Ibuprofen / Ketoprofen. 2 years ago I herniated 2 discs from switching from office work - to physical work - garden center, flower, plant deliveries. (because my hearing is very bad now). I love that kind of work but could not do it without Kratom. I did not want to become addicted to the 3 meds I was taking for my back (gabapentin, vicodin, tramadol plus antidepressants and muscle relaxers) So now I just use Kratom. I switch strains and vendors often. I still only use 3 grams (1 teaspoon ) in the morning and occasionally at night after 10 years of use. Very grateful for this wonderful plant and love reading all of the success stories!!

    Nicely presented and informative. I've used Kratom to withdrawal from opiate medications and it is nothing short of a godsend! Without it, you're looking at weeks of agony. Kratom itself is, as you stated, a 2 to 3 day withdraw that manifests primarily with muscle aches, general malaise and anxiety. Its no fun, but its worlds better than cold turkeying from opiates. If used in moderation, red strains are great for mild to moderate pain but not for severe pain.

    Sorry for jumping your shit, doc. You have no idea what I've been through on my side and I am obviously biased against your side... but for one reason only... truly. You say you haven't tried the stuff. How much better do you think you would be if you combined your research with your first hand knowledge if you actually tried the stuff? I mean..really tried the stuff. I'm not saying high doses... just like for maybe a month or two. Just stick to one strain.. something green. Nobody expects you to become a Kratom vein expert... and those different veins would open up discussions that would lead this one off course. You brought up a valid point: "What were the persons issues prior to the use of Kratom?" This question in and of itself could also have a book written on the subject. 1) are you an addict? 2) Do you have an addictive personality? 3) Are you rehabbing? 4) are you simply using for recreational use? 5) Are you using daily, if so, how much? 6) are you using intermittently, if so, how often? 7) Are you combining Kratom with other drugs? If so, what other drugs? Benzos? Alcohol? Opiates? Weed? All of the above? These questions all deserve answers if there is going to be any kind of comprehensive research or reporting done on the use of Kratom. This is why controlled studies are so important... and also so rare. Will people tell the truth? Not that we are the police, but are we getting the correct information? One guy say's this, another say's that.. and they both claim to have the same protocol......these are the kinds of things I'm concerned about. I can open 1/2 of a green Bali and dump it on my tongue, swig it down with water, drink a tiny bit of a Red Bull a few minutes later... and have enough safe, controllable energy to work another 12 hours and sleep just fine at night. Not everyone can say that. Everyone is responding differently to this "plant drug"....

    • @thebotanicalmind
      @thebotanicalmind  7 лет назад +2

      Your argument would imply if I was doing video on Methadone which I have done, I would have to try it myself. This is the recovery argument that some people make that you need to have been an addict to be in a position to help addicts. This is proven not to be true by research. As if it was the case there would be no addiction, as the addicts who have recovered would have been successful in helping the rest.
      I can't try Kratom because it is illegal in Ireland. Do you want me to break the law, just to improve my video?

    • @123jozef
      @123jozef 7 лет назад +2

      No, and that was part of my point. You can't even try it. And although your analogy "sounds" good and solid, it is most certainly not where I am coming from. My point, or should I say, the point that I'm trying to make is not about how this drug is helping addicts, although that is what is being deemed as a very important part of what Kratom does. The point that I was trying to make was in my very first post, the one about knowing and feeling the side effects rather than just talking about what you've heard, researched, whatever. If you had that emperical data to add to your research, you would surely have a much better stance on the subject. I could make an argument that you are sitting in a simulator all day preparing to be an astronaut... but would that make you ready for takeoff? No, you would fly with an experienced co-pilot and take many, many other classes. And we both know that if you really wanted to get serious about this issue without breaking the law, all you would have to do is get yourself a little ol' plane ticket and come to a country where it is legal. You mention a lot of issues with Kratom but there are some issues that you just pass over as if they are insignificant. If your objective here is to solely speak of the help Kratom gives to addicts... I'm still going to stick with what I said the first time around. If you haven't tried it, you may as well just read your research and leave it at that. On the other hand, if you WERE an addict of some sort, and you actually USED Kratom.. and it TRULY did help with your addiction, wouldn't you be a much more authentic spokesperson? We can do this all day long if you want, but the fact of the matter is still going to sustain itself. You are advocating something you have never tried, research or no research that just plain makes you dangerous, plain and simple. It's kind of ironic.. you are talking a lot about drug addicts, most of which one can assume are using ILLEGAL drugs, yet your argument for not using Kratom to any extent is based on a legality... and to top that off, you've done Methadone... so you say.... which may be a wonder-drug for some, but is also banned by the FMCSA, DOT and the FAA. I don't know if you are actually even attempting to see my points or if you just want to have that good ol Conor McGregor type of argument. What would you rather be, totally informed or partially informed? I don't understand how research alone can make someone so partial to something they don't even use. Seems a bit off to me.

      Tyler Jeffers i quit an ugly heroin and opiod add. with kratom....i get my kratom from Christophers Organic Botanicals mostly the green vietnam strain. when you order in the notes ask him for a scooper....I take a scoop three times a day somewhat close to about 20 grams maybe a little less. key to kratom is to keep hydrated

      Christopher Kang I was more meaning from kratom to nothing. I was taking 3 grams 3 times then got down to 1g twice a day. Then .4 once a day continuing to taper .05 each day till I was at 0.13g then just stopped. Been a few weeks now since I last had kratom. I took it for about 40 days starting at a 3g taper. Once I got off, I drank coffee once in the morning. Tiredness low energy, mild sleep issues and cold chills but it's more mental, lasted for a couple days. You just gotta be ready man is the best tip I'd give. Best of luck my friend

    okay kratom withdraw depends on how predisposed you already were to opiate withdraw. and kratom side effects depend on how predisposed you already were to the effects. for example kratom had ruined the bacteria in my gut and i now have a slight case of GERD after long term high dose daily usage. Also it has thinned my hair and receded my hair line. granted i was genetically disposed to be balled and have a weak stomach, but long term use defiantly 100% accelerates it . with that said its a great plant and will save many many lives. easily 100% an answer for the opioid epidemic. also with that said i think kratom withdraws are literal cake and ive been on it almost daily for 2 years.

    I have asked my doctor to lower my dose and with a lot of resistance from him as well,for some reason they don't want to lower and get you off the program but encourage you to stay for multiple years and is titrating me at 3 mils a week,when I asked about using Kratom she naturally said it was a bad idea and advised against it,So that actually proves to me there is something more to this and being the rebel that I am will start using Kratom when my dosage is lowered to a level that I start to feel WD symptoms, thank you for your advice and will keep updating on any progress .

    You can't smoke kratom

    • @thebotanicalmind
      @thebotanicalmind  7 лет назад +1

      Are you sure? Why can't it be smoked?

    • @thebotanicalmind
      @thebotanicalmind  7 лет назад +9

      Thats interesting when someone says I don't know what I am talking about. All of these facts are backed by evidence. Kratom has been smoked, but like you say not as effective. Kratom maybe habit forming as is sugar, but sugar is more harmful. There is an attempt by some to portray Kratom as addictive and therefor harmful. You need to understand addiction to understand that addiction is really about the harm caused. I know this from working with drug users and addicts for 20 years.

    • @apostalote
      @apostalote 7 лет назад +1

      Not only is it not as effective when smoked but a lot of alkaloids are destroyed under such high temperatures. 2 grams is the threshold for Kratom to take effect, but smoking 2 grams of a substance like Kratom is very difficult because you'd inhale kratom powder along with the smoke. If these facts are backed by evidence, I' sure you wouldn't mind providing that evidence.

      Chris Kozub I completly agree with you. He claims to not use it cause he lives in a country where it is banned. As far back as 1942 this "plant" has been a schedual 1 controlled substance in a country I cannot remember right now as well as being banned. It is also 30 times stronger than Morphin. Im an recovering addict 15 plus years from dope(cocaine) have been on norco for 5yrs. this kratom is not the answer for me.Ill keep taking the norco for my pain.

    • @chriskucsma3540
      @chriskucsma3540 7 лет назад

      The plain leaf can't be smoked for effects due to the small amount of alkaloids present (average of 2%). There are ways that the alkaloids can be concentrated and vaporized effectively. This doesn't mean that the plain leaf can't be smoked, but it does mean that it will have minimal effects this way.

    Hey, Dr. Thom! I could watch this over and over . . . so much good info and research you gave us! I posted it on facebook's "Queen of Kratom" (Etri Cahyanti and her family run a spectacularly clean business. I have learned so much from her . .. what the yuck stuff looks like and what the pure Kalimantan Island of Indonesia Kratom looks like. What a difference! Some vendors put clay in the Kratom. One member of the group showed us a picture of her Kratom and it looked like fine dirt (makes me think of the suffering starving Haitians eating dirt cookies). Her mouth broke out in sores. She said another vendor gave her gritty Kratom which probably had clay and stones added for bulk. Yuck! Etri asked me to be one of the admins of the page. She inspires me with her husband who works extremely hard (Rodhy) in their huge factory. I love the video of her walking through a forest of Kratom trees. Etri is also an advocate and activist of maternal health . . . you two could surely share a lot with each other. Thanks again, and may you live a long and contented life!
