Thanks, Susan! ☺ I loved reading "Project Hail Mary" last year, in physical book form, and I have it saved from Audible, as well, so will listen to it as a future re-read. I am currently 34 hours into the 47 hours of "The Count of Monte Cristo" on Libby, and physically reading the non-fiction book, " Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution" by Cat Bohannon, and "The Backyard Bird Chronicles" by Amy Tan. Recently finished "The Demon of Unrest" by Erik Larson, (all of his books are excellent.) Although I did read Emily Henry's "Book Lovers" when it came out, I haven't read any of her others, even though I know they are popular. I am not really a romance reader, although I did like "Book Lovers" fine, especially the witty banter. I found "Demon Copperhead" to be so well-written but very oppressive. I didn't give it five stars as you did, (maybe I would feel differently had I ever read "David Copperfield", but have not, as yet.) I do consider Kingsolver to be an excellent writer, though. Looking forward to finding a light and fluffy palate cleanser to read, in addition to my current reads, as I am in need of a little joyful mood booster! 💜
You’re on the homestretch with The Count! Or… almost on the homestretch. 😂😂 Hope you’re enjoying it! I’m a big fan of Erik Larson too! Need to read his latest. I’m right there with you on the romance genre. But I keep giving my hometown writer a try. 😁 Thank you as always for watching, Laura, and happy weekend!!
I loved The Martian Susan and I’m zero into sci-fi! I really want to give a go to Hail Mary too! Have a great weekend! Take it easy and I hope Bill gets better soon! ❤
Thank you! I’ll tell Bill! 🩵 Yes, if you enjoyed The Martian, Project Hail Mary will likely appeal to you! I think I forgot to mention how funny it is. 😁
Hope Bill gets all better soon and I am intrigued by your hormone pills. I struggle with dropping energy and menopause. Your reading is going well- even with Rear Window. What I loved about Demon was how brilliant it was to David but yes heavy! My summer craving this year is history but that’s new. 😊
The hormone pellets have definitely kicked in and should only get better and better…a big difference in my energy already after just a month. But I’m not my old self quite yet. But hopefully soon. I think history is a great summer craving!! I’m scratching that itch with Gage’s G-Man. Happy weekend!!
I loved Project Hail Mary. Sci Fi is not my go-to genre, but I really enjoyed it. I do like lighter reads in the summer. I am signed up for both Big Book Summer and Jane Austen July, so they will be helping determine my summer TBR.
I've heard only great reviews of Project Hail Mary, it seems to appeal to everyone. One day I'll give it a try. I think I'll skip Demon Copperhead though. I watched a video recommending summer reads, and The Great Gatsby was on the list... I hope to re-read it and Tender Is The Night, also have The Beautiful and Damned.
I’m thrilled to hear that The GG made a summer reading list!! 🍸👗 (I’m not much of a fan of his other books, though I still have one to read.) Project Hail Mary is good fun!! ( DC not so much. 🫣)
I don’t tend to read based on seasons. I’m a slower reader so I’m just trying to get through my tbr most of the time 😅 the only exception is fall. I love to read books that feel like fall at that time. I might try a “summer read” though! ☺️
I've been listening to 'A Room of One's Own.' I must have read it over thirty years ago. I struck me that it must have been great listening to deliver the lecture.
I loved Demon Copperhead and I had to keep reminding myself that he’s not a real boy, it’s just a book because I was getting upset too. I’ve heard so many good things about Hail Mary and it’s on my TBR even though I’m not into science fiction. On a side note, the Broadway Theater League in my hometown had a production of To Kill a Mockingbird this week and Richard Thomas (The Waltons) played Atticus Finch and it was a wonderful play. We loved it so much and I thought of you 😊 When it comes to summer reading, I like to dig into a big long novel.
John Boy as Atticus! I had heard he did a great job with it and that’s so cool you got to see it!!! When you’re in the mood for a funny, interesting read, it’s time for Project Hail Mary. No need for a sci-fi background!
@@RoadReads He did a great job and the other actors were really good too and many were in the original play on Broadway. I’m looking forward to Project Hail Mary!
Glad you are enjoying” G-Man.” It was deserving of The Pulitzer Prize.I am currently reading”Night Watch” by Jayne Anne Phillips. It won The Pulitzer Prize this year for Fiction. It is outstanding.
Have you read”Cold Mountain”? It is similar in tone but grittier. In my opinion, the battle scenes rivaled those in “ War and Peace.” The novel is intense and gripping. People seem to either love it or hate it.
Hey, friend! I am so happy you talked about Demon. I've been sending it back on Libby for MONTHS now because I didn't know if I'd be able to invest the time it deserves. My whole family is from Eastern KY and I could tell from your review that it will feel like familiar territory for me based on some of my extended family.... That said, have you read The Dollmaker? Thanks for the Andy Weir suggestion- I am not into that genre either, but am now intrigued! You are the reason I gave Emily St John Martel a shot and now I'm hooked!
I’ve not read Dollmaker. Don’t think I’ve heard of it! 🤔 I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed Mantel’s books! I’m just patiently awaiting her next release!! Demon C is a longish book but a fast read. And a very rough read. Weir’s Project Hail Mary is its opposite…fun and funny!
I read Project Hail Mary with my 36 yr old son and loved it! Still looking at Demon Cooperhead on my shelf😆. I’m not a fan of Emily Henry; she’s not for me. I am reading Lonesome Dove for the Big Book Summer Challenge.
I am just into Demon Copperhead and before that instead of reading David Copperfield I watched the BBC Masterpiece Theater of it with Danial Radcliffe and Maggie Smith. Anyhow. I am engrossed in Copperhead but it’s got to be I see a few similarities to Copperfield but Copperhead seem more true to even this day and age. 😊
I did not enjoy Demon Copperhead at all. I have read and enjoyed other Barbara Kingsolver and agree she really is a brilliant writer. Depressed for days afterwards. Had to just read some easygoing stuff (reread Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice) I also like Andy Weir, science and plot! I am currently reading Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See…ancient medicine in China.
I certainly can understand your opinion on DC, Jeanette! I was thrown off for quite awhile after reading it too! And Weir was the perfect solution! Hope you get plenty of time to enjoy See’s book this weekend!!
Your videos make my day, Susan! Thank you for sharing your radiance with us!
That is so sweet of you to say!! Thank you!! 🤗🌸📚🩵
Thanks, Susan! ☺

I really liked Project Hail Mary, too!
I love to hear that from my fellow English major. 😉😁

My mom read The Martian and has recommended it to EVERYONE! I guess I need to read that one, too!

Fall reading is gooooood reading! 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂
Susan, I was so happy you finally read Demon copperhead. I knew you would appreciate it.
You were right! 😃
Children in peril will often make me stop reading a book. I think I'll skip Demon Copperhead.
I think that’s wise, Deborah!
Happy weekend!!
I've been listening to 'A Room of One's Own.' I must have read it over thirty years ago. I struck me that it must have been great listening to deliver the lecture.
I love A Room of One’s Own!! Enjoy!!!
I am reading "Demon Copperhead" now and enjoy it very much. But it's really rather tough reading.
Tough/rough indeed!

The Night Watch is on my TBR so it’s great to hear you’re liking it!! As for G-Man, I’m at the Warren Commission part. Hope to read all weekend!!
Have you read”Cold Mountain”? It is similar in tone but grittier. In my opinion, the battle scenes rivaled those in “ War and Peace.” The novel is intense and gripping. People seem to either love it or hate it.
I haven’t read it, though I’ve heard mostly just positive reviews on it. Including my sisters in laws years ago.

yay susan!!!!!😊😊😊😊
