  • This video explains how to remove the axles as well as replace the axle bearings and seals on a Ford 8.8 rear. A couple things that I forgot to mention:
    1. When re-installing the differential cover, be sure to use a star pattern when torquing down the bolts.
    2. When prying out the seal, try to avoid scraping the removal tool against the axle housing. Try to anchor the end of the tool on the steel lip on the inside of the seal. This will avoid extra work cleaning up any gouges as well as avoid potential future leaks.

My 1991 GT axle is making some noise. I was looking for a video on how to swap out the bearings. This video showed me all I needed to know. Thanks.

I'm about to be doing the same on my 92 GT about to be a pain in the ass🤣

@@darkseidsultion1 I had to use a long water pipe to drive out the bearings from the far side. A puller just made a mess of things.

Hell yeah, I've realized I'm just going to pay some other bastard to do it for me 😂

Great informative video man. Just what I was looking for. For anyone else doing this- I know when I remove front or rear bearings on my dirt bike I heat the hub up with a torch until you hear a click. That’s the bearing releasing, and should come out like butter after that!👍🏻

I actually pieced a good bit of it together. My parts car had the old 4 lug Ford Motorsport kit. I ended up using the axle brackets, caliper brackets, and e brake cables from it. I bought new 93 Cobra rotors and conversion brake lines from LMR, rebuilt Ford calipers from Autozone (they are cheap), and EBC yellow pads from Summit. Unless you buy the stock pads, don’t use the anti rattle clips. They make the pad sit too tight and and it will get stuck and rub. The ENC pads I bought needed the tabs ground down (don’t worry it’s safe).

It would’ve been helpful to see the whole process , you need a wife , son or even a dog to hold the cam .

My car is in gear but axel won’t spin?

You need to put your car in neutral with the e-brake off for the axle to turn freely.

Thanks for the comment! Sorry for the delay. I didn’t see your question until just now. The bolt is called the cross pin bolt. I ordered mine from LMR but you can get the same one at a local auto parts store under Dorman part number 81048. Under that number it is called the Differential Shaft Lock Bolt. As mentioned in the video, that bolt is somewhat soft so be careful not to strip or snap when removing. Take your time and take pictures along the way for reference. Good luck!

what fluid goes back in the rear diff and does it need a friction mod with the fluid and taking all this out should I do bearings also

    • @foxmustanghow-tos8614

75w-140 gear oil. You also need to add the friction modifier. I would do everything while you have it apart.

@@foxmustanghow-tos8614 If you use Royal Purple, it will come with friction modifier added. Check the label. Also, it is synthetic, a good plus.
