EXACTLY, I was going to write something as well about how smooth she was in her delivery with just very subtle glances at cue cards. Masterful. It’s almost like in one glance she took in the whole skit for each person she addressed.
For all you youngins who don’t know, Mary Tyler Moore, is a national treasure, a tv comedy icon, and trailblazer, the first female producer of her time, who spawned a tv comedy spinoff empire, a brilliant comedic and dramatic actress, and an amazing figure in television history. Did we leave anything out? Oh yeah, she was not only gracious and kind in real life, but a true professional. I know you love her as Laura Petrie, but Mary Tyler Moore went on to make history as one of its most influential superstars.
I'm only 38 and watched these on nick at night when I was little. They had all these shows I loved for whatever reason. Only problem is no one my age has ever seen any of these. Green acres, f troop, Mr ed, I dream of genie, Mork and Mindy, etc. Good shows!
@@mja91352 Not sure about that, considering she came into her own by becoming a producer, creating a TV empire of her own with MTM, spawning brilliant spin-offs, and breaking new ground for working women everywhere.
"Now I'm not going to judge you, just tell me, are you planning on hijacking the plane? If you just come right out and say it I promise no one will think the worse of you."
I'm pleasantly surprised to see Ben Stiller in an SNL skit with Mary Tyler Moore. They would later star together in the hilariius movie "Flirting with Disaster." She plays Ben's high-srrung mom.
Never knew MTM was on SNL - Wish I would have caught that episode. Looks like they really packed in the stars so they all got a chance to work with Mary ❤ 🎉
One of the best lessons I got, and I used it multiple times, was during and MTM show rerun when, the best I can recall, the heads are looking to axe Lou, so they're asking Mary about his performance, looking for dirt, and she said something to the effect of; "It's not my job to evaluate him, it's his job to evaluate me." It's a good reminder for people to keep their heads about roles.
I was SNL bingeing and csme across this after I saw Sally Field , and here's another all time favorite actress MaryTylerMoore, I like when national treasures host SNL
When Mary passed away, I found the funeral scene from “Chuckles Bites the Dust” on RUclips. It was funny, but not as funny as I remembered. Later on I found the full episode on Hulu and realized that what made her cracking up at the funeral so funny was that she had set up the joke earlier in the episode by scolding Lou and Murray for their tasteless jokes. Basically she played both the straight role and the comic role in one episode. Brilliant.
So how come I can name each and every actor in the lineup and they make me smile? And how come nothing even close to that happens with the current SNL? Times they are a-changing but not necessarily for the better.
For those wondering, they do inspect your checked baggage via a scanner, and will track you down if they think your bag contains anything sus and you proceed to "nothing to declare" anyways
Mary Tyler Moore was an American actress, producer, and social advocate. She is best known for her roles on The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which "helped define a new vision of American womanhood" and "appealed to an audience facing the new trials of modern-day existence".
omg I've been looking for MTM's host episode forever!! This is hilarious and so is when she sang with the Sweeney Sisters (Jan Hooks & Nora Dunn)...CLASSIC! I SO hope to find that Sweeney Sisters clip omg MTM was hilarious!
I sure miss all those great actors I grew up watching and took for granted. Now I just feel old. I’m the last of the Boomers but wow was TV at its apogee in my day. MTM and so many more were so good. And the best part? No 24/hour a day news cable channels. Oh life was good and we knew it because Walter Cronkite and Roger Mudd told us it was.
mary tyler moore killing it, a lot of dialogue and twists, she flew threw it brilliantly and disguised her card reading brilliantly.
I cannot believe how far I got into tha skit before it dawned on me that that was MTM. I thought it was a cast member/
Right, I noticed that card reading as well.
The consummate actor !!
It’s not the least bit funny but she did nail it.

Yes, and it's evident in this piece. Sadly, she and Phil Hartman are no longer with us.
But she was never as good as she was with the more talented Dick Van Dyke
@@mja91352

30 Rock was basically Tina Fey’s Mary Tyler Moore Show.
"Who can turn the world on with her smile...."
Expensive smile, capped back to the molars.
Awww it is Mary Tyler Moore!!! This character suits her well. RIP....
One of the best comedic performers of our time and a great dramatic actress.
Love MTM ever since the Dick Van Dyke Show, saw her on a sitcom guest allearing can't remember it now, it was yhe mid sixties.
This is the kind of customs officer that will make you declare contraband that you don't have.
yes thats the premise of the sketch
@@okkcomputer no shit..right?
gotta love a cynic😝
I heart these sketches! Mary Tyler Moore, I miss you gal! As well loving this cast!
The ice cream plot was to get him to "reveal" the contraband sooner rather than later...ingenious
She could had prevented September 11.

@@jakepullman4914pretty sure he meant her piloting skills were 2nd to none
They missed the perfect opportunity for Jon Lovitz to play his "Liar" character
The way she chucked that passport at Mr. Drake was hilarious. I can’t tell if it was impromptu, or if it was scripted. Either way, it was awesome.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see Ben Stiller in an SNL skit with Mary Tyler Moore. They would later star together in the hilariius movie "Flirting with Disaster." She plays Ben's high-srrung mom.
Yes, it's always awesome to see nepotism at its earliest stages.
Mary Tyler Moore, a real gem.
Not a comedian, though.
Frankly she always annoyed me.
Recognized her right away
@@jondunmore4268 she is a recognized comedienne..........
So damn pretty
When al frankin says "what did he do wrong" was really funny imho
Never knew MTM was on SNL - Wish I would have caught that episode. Looks like they really packed in the stars so they all got a chance to work with Mary ❤ 🎉
Mary Tyler Moore was an American treasure
Basically when the teacher asks you what you want to tell the class.
good job throwing the passport in a normal way

One of Ben Stiller's rare appearances on SNL...
Before Michael Cohen
Its just as well. He's funny but he was never really SNL material. Robert Downey Jr was on the cast too, but its not his strength.
Just great
His best role to date. And by "to date" I mean through 2021.
I knew he was on this show but didn't even realize it was this cast (which is my favorite), always assumed he was early 80s.
MTM reminds me of Jane Lynch with her hair like this
I thought it was her.
I thought it was Jane, too
Wig or was that her hairstyle at the time?
I had no idea she was on snl. That is so frickin awesome ❤❤❤
MTM!!! One of the greatest ever!!!!!!!
This is an AMAZING performance by Mary Tyler Moore.
How did I never see this?
Brilliant work
I thought that Focker is getting nailed for sure with his suitcase.
Ben Stiller looks so young!!
He was maybe 20
Great actors...so many
Phil Hartman was one of the best actors. His wife was very selfish and evil.
Selfishness is usually always a trait of an addict
She was trash
Wow. Mary Tyler Moore! In a SNL skit! Wow! Never seen this before. She was great.
What a cast !!
Mary Tyler Moore. Nothing else needs to be said.
Gosh it took me a whole minute to realize the customs agent was Mary Tyler Moore...😍
You’re better than me,I had to read the comments 😅
I recognized her voice but still didn't know who it was I'm so ashamed of myself
I knew it the second I heard her voice, and I didn't even know this episode existed. I'd know her voice anywhere. (Oh, Mr. GRANT!!!)

Flawless Victory!
She was awesome in this one!!!

It's like a real life Troy McClure.
Reminds me of Monty Python routine from 70’s

John Lovitz keistering diamonds didn't seem unusual.

You can't lie to HER. There's something about Mary...
Mary Tyler Moore has that early Karen down real tight
I love mary I was so sad when she died
Me too.
Is that Former Senator Al Franken who asked "What did he do wrong" at 4:10?
Yes.
...was Al Franklin in that line?
Yes
So how come I can name each and every actor in the lineup and they make me smile? And how come nothing even close to that happens with the current SNL? Times they are a-changing but not necessarily for the better.
Hurray for Arthur
RIP Mary Tyler Moore.
MTM is so good!

Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett two of the greatest
She would be a great police interrogator. She would sweet talk them into confessing.

Took me way too long to remember Jon Lovitz name.

This was filmed the week that Ben Stiller was an SNL cast member
I knew that face was familiar. Was trying to recall who it was. Thanks comments.
Sad about Phil Hartman. Murdered by the wife, who then killed herself.
This is clever, funny, and well acted. But also a little sad, she had been so beautiful before..
