    As someone who studied German for many years but let it atrophy, I really appreciate you doing two versions of your videos. I can listen to the German version first and try to glean what I can, then watch the English one, and then go back and rewatch with German one to reinforce the vocabulary. Much better then those language lab tapes we used back in the day. And the content is great, too. Keep up the good work.

    Damir, what do you think of 18:9? I really don't like it. With Sony sticking to 16:9 and solid battery life and one handed use, it is really swaying me as my #1 choice.

    can't understand why people criticize SONY so much. Bought XZ1 Compact due its small size and awesome specs. Battery life is amazing (almost 11 hours of screen on time when browsing internet on WiFi with 25% screen brightness). This battery easily lasts 2-3 days. Great build quality and the phone is snappy fast (faster than my Xiaomi mi 5). Also happy with camera and slow motion (960fps video recording) is insane for such a small phone. Very happy with the purchase. From now on...only SONY phones.

    The best Compact to date!
    I'd pick this one over the XZ1.
    Performance, software and battery are typical Sony, at least good!
    Talking about charging time even when using the fast charger it takes about a bit more than 2 hours to charge to protect the battery

    • @lionelb8227
      @lionelb8227 7 лет назад +3

      Hollanda1975 Remember the Z3? Its battery life was very good for the time
      And the camera is "bad" only when shooting in auto mode, in manual mode it's very good
      OIS is the only lacking feature when shooting in low light

    • @TK-dx6qc
      @TK-dx6qc 7 лет назад

      Liion B I read that the charger that comes with the XZ1 Compact isn't a quick charge one. 2 hours is way unacceptable so buy a quick charge one.

    • @lionelb8227
      @lionelb8227 7 лет назад

      Tarek Kabbani In some places it comes with a quick charger. For example, my XZ Premium came with one. And the charging time is about 2 hours again.
      At the beginning of the charging process is charges fast and after reaching 90 percent, charging speed decreases to protect the battery, is part of the protection features that Sony uses for its battery

    If I get another Android phone as my next daily driver, this would no doubt be my choice. Been using the Z5 Compact and the small size along with Sony's optimized software made it a no brainer choice back when I bought it, and even after nearly 2 years I still think so. Great to see the phone actually ships with 8.0 Oreo like the Pixel instead of 7.1 Nougat like the current competition too, and judging from my experience Sony will be quick to update it to the latest version of Android at least until support ends 2 years later. If Android phones were supported for longer than 2 major software updates, that would be even better, though.

      I got the z3 compact, but it died after 3 years. First the battery lost a lot of his capacity after 2 years (which i think is normal), then after 3 years the bottom of the touchscreen stopped working properly and a month after it the front screen without any particular reason just cracked (maybe overheated?) and made the touchscreen unusable. But still great phone.

    If this phone drops to $450 by early next year, I'll probably buy it. I agree that $600 isn't the best value right now, but this would be an absolute steal for under $500. I'm still using my Nexus 5 from 2013, which is still a great phone, but it has a pitifully weak battery after 4 years of use. Not exaggerating in the slightest, the XZ1 compact would give me about five times more screen on time from a charge, and has tech in there to preserve the battery over time. The 835 on a 720p screen will age amazingly well too. I could see holding onto this phone for 5 years, easy.
    And now, we wait.

    Have the X Compact (I've bought phones for me and my family according to Damir's excellent recommendations) and was tempted to get the XZ1 Compact in hopes for a better camera performance (love the pics that my XC takes but speed, image stabilization and those Sony slo-mo effects would be great). However, there's no way I can justify the price difference, especially since the camera doesn't seem to be miles better than that of the XC. I guess I'll have to wait for one or two more generations of Sony Compacts before upgrading (I usually upgrade only every 3 to 5 years, but I'm just blown away by how good my Sony is after mostly using Samsung Galaxy compacts).

    • @TheBlooRayChannel
      @TheBlooRayChannel 7 лет назад

      Thinking about getting the X Compact myself. At $320 it looks like a steal, and the XZ1 Compact just doesn't justify paying close to two times that amount. How are you finding yours in terms of daily use with apps and social media? All running fast and smooth? Battery life on point with Nougat?

    • @johnorion496
      @johnorion496 7 лет назад

      Everything (social media apps, games...) is really fast and smooth IMO. Battery life (with everything you don't need everyday turned off) is usually 40-50 hours (throughout the day I'm checking my emails and social media accounts plus play a little Mario Run or Angry Birds). One good thing about Sony is that they do keep their software up-to-date (compared to Samsung where, especially depending on where you live and which model you have, you have to wait a long time for an Android update). From what I've heard, X Compact, for example, should be getting Oreo really soon where as my mom's new Samsung A3 2017 just got Nougat.

    • @johnorion496
      @johnorion496 7 лет назад

      I guess it also depends on differences in real-life use. Battery life... I usually get +2 days with my XC unless I do a lot of gaming. That's good enough for me. Would XZ1C give me +3 days? Well, I've yet to use a smart phone with that kind of battery life. SoC... As Damir said in his review of XZ1Z, both phones seem pretty much equally smooth in performance. If you multi-task or play serious games, the extra RAM and CPU power will probably start showing. IP Certified... There has been talk that XC is 'unofficially IP Certified' and there are clips of it surviving in water. Obviously, if you do plan on showering with your phone or taking underwater pics, it's best to go with an officially IP certified phone. It's enough for me to know that if I do accidentally splash a little water to my XC, it probably won't die on me. Camera... I usually need a big improvement to switch phones and it seems this is not the case with XZ1C. OS... XC will get Oreo (which XZ1C has) but not sure about Android 9 as Z5 Compact did not get Nougat. However, it is possible that Sony will continue updating its X-lineup.
      I'd say XZ1Z will be worth it if the price difference between it and the XC is 100 EUR/USD. Otherwise, for especially double the price for the XZ1C, I'd go with the XC as I doubt you will see much difference in real-life use. I will probably wait for the next compact model from Sony and wait for it to come down to 300 EUR and then get it.

  • @123Ryanist
    @123Ryanist 7 лет назад +1

    Great Review Damir! But I have heard that Sony is going to ditch the X, XA- series, but not the XZ - series and that's maybe the reason the X - series has gone down in price and the X, XA series won't get any future updates after 3 years. Sony has I think declared that they are going to put all there efforts and focus on there flagship's.
    Wonder also if Xaomi mi S will roll out, haven't heard anything yet? Bit this Sony Phone kicks ass!
    PS: I think the reason why Sony doesn't put a fast changer is due to that the customers get the more expensive noise cancelling in ear phones which supports that special function in the phone, which no other phone has.
    The screen I believe is a small issue, due to that it is very very difficult to see any difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen in this size segment. I bet that the phone would be more expensive for a reason now one would be able to see. I would rather see Sony putting a in-house Amoled screen on this phone to make the battery life, colours and sharpness even better.

Recently I bought the XZ1 compact in Holland (pink color for only € 279, blue and black are 50-100 up) and I wonder whether I have bought a 'blue monday' phone or that my phone works normal. The housing of the phone clearly resonates in the mid - high frequencies of music and speech. I was surprised how well I can feel the vibrations when I hold the phone in my hands. I regularly have the impression that the sound is distorted by the resonating housing which seems to add an unpleasant vibration to the sound. Does anybody has similar experiences?

      That's not what I meant but the fact your solutions aren't solutions but more like workarounds.
      If you use BT you totally take the jack out of the occasion, same for the extra amp and type c headphones are shit imo if not great since they totally limit you imo, you get that sound and its given volume. If that's not right you're out of luck and there's nothing that can be done. Imo USB c headphones are worst idea ever, it's an odd one and done solution that either works or not at all and if not then you're out of luck.
      That's why I don't see your suggestions as actual solutions since they don't solve the actual problem, only circumvent it

    I regret not saving a little more and get sony compact instead of samsung a3. Theres a lot of small things sony does much better from looks of it. Amoled is amazing though. Plastic is much nicer than glass and metal. More stock, much better camera. Samsung is looking very processed and wrong colours and samsung ui is aweful after s5

    I would prefer an iPhone 8 because it has more useful software with menus from the side, top, bottom- put events , timetables public transport,camera, music all falls to hand easily.

      You do realize Android does all of that stuff, right? And with Android you can customize where that stuff shows up to make it most useful to you. Beyond the customizability (which is a HUGE point) it's also not an eye-shredding white in all menus and most apps, it has a dedicated back button as opposed to requiring every app put a hard-to-reach back button in the top left corner of all of their apps, and its notifications system is far superior (iOS has sinfully poor information density, doesn't handle nested notifications like Android does, etc.).
      iPhones are good because of their hardware - even if the design is a bit stale outside of the X and they skimp on specs in key departments (e.g. screen resolution), they're gorgeous and well-built phones. Their A11 chip is a beast too. iOS, on the other hand, is really bad. I can't think of any advantages over Android in the core OS. The main thing that people tend to point to is iMessage, but that's only really useful if your friends use it and you have a Mac. It also semi-intentionally made it impossible to text your friends who switched to Android for years, which is hilariously dickish. Apples update support is superb though - gotta give props for that.

      I have an iPhone 8 and this phone. I love both of them. Got fed up of the laggy S7 Edge which was enormous for my tiny hands.

    720p is bad for 2017. I think thats the reason why i hate this phone. You can see the pixels
