Having Matt rife in the thumbnail is so fucking perfect
Ian Bagg, Phil Hanley and list goes on....
yt keeps shadow banning my comment f u yt
@patrick815 what is odd is, they are both really tight with Phil too.
A lot of his are actually funny though
Mark starts the clip with "I'm not gonna name any names..." then Matt Rife is in the thumbnail.
I love harland williams crowd work. Someone laughs loud and he says ma'am could you please shut the fuck up immediately. Hahaha cracks me up everytimr
Sir can you please close your legs? Lmao Harland is the best!!!
Yeah he's my favorite. I like him BECAUSE of his crowd work. He has a gift with taking boring responses and turning it into laughter.
“How are you this open to finding something and finding nothing _consistently”_ lmao
I hate crowd work. I didn’t come to the comedy club to learn about the dummies in the audience.
Absolutely can't stand it.
Big Jay is an exception
Yeah not a fan. They spend like 15 minutes on it too.
It punishes people who go in person because you can only hear one side of the conversation
If done properly, it's a great variation of Stand Up. Unfortunately, there's so many cookie cutter crowd workers now that don't know how to form a proper punchline and it's made it run stale. Bruce Bruce, Big Jay Oakerson and Judah Friedlander are some of my favorite comedians that use the crowd as a tool to make the show more interactive while simultaneously setting up proper jokes with punchlines. I partially blame Jeremiah Watkins for the surge in shitty crowd work
My greatest fear was going to a comedy show being called out, and then it happened. I mean it was fun, but I already know my life is a joke.
somtimes its funny but other times it comes off as mean 1 women was supposed to meet a group at a comedy club she ended up sitting up front alone and a roasted her nay son you crossed the line
You should only do crowd work if you're really good at it. Most comics who resort to crowd work are not good at it. It's supposed to enhance your act, not be a replacement for not having an act.
How do you think you get good ? Lol
Don’t tell big jay that
You’re not getting what they’re saying 🤦🏿♂️
The bubble is bursting. Can't blame the clubs. They'll book whoever they think will draw. Unfortunately, for a few years that has meant podcasters with no material and RUclipsrs who only do bad crowdwork. A lot of young wannabe comics tried to skip that whole pesky 'writing material and developing an act' part of their development, chasing clout and money instead. Well-known or not, crowds don't like going out to see un-funny comedians, so now they're really starting to stay home. That wave of un-funny and un-skilled 'internet clout comics' is dying on the vine. Good riddance. No we can enjoy Sinbad's next comeback tour.
Things really went from Sinbad to Sinworse, tsss
@@plesnivyzajacReminds me of that tragedy 🏌️
@@plesnivyzajacit's a real meeting of the mind.
@@plesnivyzajac I can't wait to hear more Sinbad buying socks jokes.
The bubble is absolutely not bursting
it feels like being the subject of a viral crowd work clip is an in thing now and thats whats ruining crowd work
Just dont use tiktok
Their buddy Stavros is guilty as charged.
but stavros is kinda good at it. matt rife is not
Súper Guilty but wildly good at it
Stav is the exception imo
They're trying to get in on Stavvy's turf
Isn’t Sam? I haven’t watched much of his stuff, but a lot of his shorts pop up in my feed and it’s all crowd work.
I heard a comedian on a podcast say crowd work is just code for not having material
Banning it at the comedy cellar would definitely set the tone for the rest of the country. It would be really good for new york comedy. If you need a clip, work one out at a different spot
Was at the comedy cellar the other night and every comic did Trump
i wonder if anyone here ever saw Open Mike with Mike Bullard, the Canadian late night talk show host who always did crowd work during his opening monologue..
Underrated show.
Lol forgot all about him thank you!!!
He was great.
That's a friggen throwback I wasn't expecting today, I wonder what happened to him
Ya he was good! He got me too'd by a city tv reporter lol
GOAT of Crowdwork = Patrice Oneal
he had great material though and didn’t depend on crook like a lot of comics
That TOLU segment is so fuckin funny.
I went to a show in jersey back in February and some tik tok star who was the headliner did 45mins of crowd work....by far the absolute worst show I've been to
Bananas? 😂
@cpreid no it was Jarrod something, a bald black dude, the openers and host were cool and actually had sets prepared. Or is bananas the club? Lmao this was some random restaurant in south jersey haha
@@danlinthicum7114 Bananas is the club - Hasbrouk Heights at some crappy hotel banquet.
@cpreid ahhhh ok gotcha na that's too far for me lol I usually hit philly but we figured we'd try some random shit we saw online and were highly disappointed
When it's done right, it can be hilarious... Phil Hanley is a great example.
lol 90% of his crowd work is hitting on women
Big Jay :)
@@jonathanmadera8488 ...so? Phil is still a master..!
@@DJTheoSF ...absolutely!!! Big Jay is a killer!!!
It’s still lazy he should go write a joke
Skillful crowd work in moderation can be fantastic but most of the time it’s just comedians lazily dunking or just picking on the fact that the subject was caught off guard and has awkward responses. I’ve heard cleverer insults on the playground as a kid than I’ve seen from many comedians just being condescending on stage to paying fans.
One exception is Jon Rudnitsky, who did exclusively crowd work when I saw him at The Stand, and it wasn’t even jokes about the crowd, it was just a vibe that was hilarious.
Omg constantly experiencing this at improv and the store. Back to back comedians doing the same crowd work getting everyone’s life story.
Say it to Big Jay's face... I dare you
No way they mean Big Jay
Big jay is goated. The only other guy I like doing crowdwork is Jay Acuri, that man's brain speedruns
Big Jay is an insufferable fake tough guy that is really dumb and unfunny
mark's earlobes are fucking insane
Thanks , now that's all I'm ever going to see every time I watch him now.
It’s all I see now.
Crowd work is the easiest form of comedy that literally anyone can do and get laughs in a comedy club
I dont really do impressions...*joe list enters the chat*
I think standup comedians should be banned from podcasting
🎉😅😢
Ever hang out with "comedians"? Fkn annoying! Just 1 upper after another...
Sooo just no podcasts for comedy fans? Oh okay
It would help standup be funny again
Or you could just not listen to them? Go listen to books on tape, or whatever you’re into
Please put an end to crowd work, except by the 5-10 guys that are actually good at it. Sam and Mark being two of them.
The 5,000 other wannabes are polluting by IG feed with their lame crowd work desperate attempts. It's ruining comedy
Sam sucks and is one of the lame comedians ruining comedy
@@colin6603 no
Seemingly everybody started doing it all the time after noticing how well crowd work clips perform on social media, so it has long become oversaturated and boring by now. Also another example of how social media is shaping real life and art, ugh
Well in reality its the only part of a show that you can post and not then waste the material. So if you have a particularly funny interaction yea post that, but I think some are now postin every interaction just to have something to post. The algorithm sort of demands it from them.
@@stevew9563 good point
Crowd work is why I'd never go see a live comedy show.
you should try leaving the internet. yikes
I loathe crowd work. I don't like crowds and I don't like work.
Crowd work is cool to fill in for hosting or for social media clips but at the end of the day you’re there to see the comics material. Like crowd work might make me go to a show but if it’s all just crowd work I’d be pissed. Let it happen organically and/or create a bit that may include some audience participation but a lot of people do drag it
Using crowd work to enhance your routine, like Aziz Ansari, or even a Michael Che, does wonders. If your act is crowd work, you aren't proving you're a good comic.
Not everyone can do crowd work. It’s about engaging with the audience so it’s the go-to thing now. Some can do it, some can’t. If you’re doing 10 mins or less, you shouldn’t spend most of it talking to them.
Crowd work should only be done for the hecklers in my opinion. Otherwise it's hack to me.
Big jay is the king of crowd work
There are certain comedians whose crowd work is funnier than most other comedians written and polished set material including Nate Jackson, Tony Baker and Kev on Stage as the Bald Brothers and the comedian trio who proved you could sell out arenas doing almost all crowd work , the 85 South Show
The new 'comedy' is crowd work and telling long stories or ranting rather than jokes with punchlines.
Crowd work is padding. It also is a way to not burn good material for a future possible Netflix or HBO special, since everything is on video these days. New ideas for jokes might come up too. I think the crowd might be more forgiving too because it's not scripted and "more authentic".
Some comics are extremely good at it - Stavvy being a prime example. Most others are poor at it.
Yall messy for the thumbnail LMAO
Lets be honest, Jimmy came to watch for bits for his show.
Naw, some comedians best strength is crowd work.
It's easy, people just want to be acknowledged and crowd work is acknowledging the crowd.
Jimmy Carr is the perfect example of great crowd work
Jimmy Carr sucks
Far be it from me to tell comedians how to perform, but I personally hate crowd work and can’t watch that stuff. In my opinion the crowd should be left alone - they paid to see an act; not to be part of one.
Crowd work is good but when its a headliner show. Like Sam said but when you are in a club and there are 10 comics in a lineup then that's just not good specially if a bunch of them do it.
Jimmy Fallon is old school. Not a big deal, this just fell on my ears in a weird way.
Sam is really good at it fwiw. he and stavros are the only ones i can tolerate.
Everyone shits on Matt. I personally don’t find him funny but it’s true. My gf made me watch his special. It’s just a crowd of women he’s crowd working lol
Because he didn't grind and put in the actual work like so many actual comics had to do. He is just a bro who girls think is hot but he doesn't have a talent for comedy. He simply failed upward
@@drewfinn5369 oh yeah, I totally agree with that but unfortunately I just think that’s the new way of stand-up I think because of social media absolutely every form of media is going to completely change for the worse. I love hip-hop and the craft of being a lyricist. Yet my girlfriends daughter yesterday was jamming out to a song where this dude was literally talking and wasn’t even on beat and has like 50 million subscribers.
@@drewfinn5369He’s been doing stand up since he was 14 years old. You can google who he is.🤷🏻♂️
Stavros had some funny crowd work on IG that lead me to his stand up special, which was horrible, so now I don’t care about crowd work anymore lol
Few can do it as good as Phil Hanley!!
How about everywhere....
Can’t stand crowd work. Crowd work is to comedy what tik tok is to “content creation.” It’s like, yeah everybody has a fuckin iPhone. You’re not even doing anything special with it. Crowd work is like if you hired a plumber and they showed up without any tools like “yeah, I could fix your sink, but I just thought it would be fun to jab at it with a dull pocket knife and like, we could hang out? But you still gotta pay me the full amount..”
If i were to open a club I’ll call it Open Mic 2.0 and have hyena night. No slurs but almost everything is allowed
The other problem with Rife is that he isn't funny. So there's that.
Andrew schultz anyone?
modern crowdwork godfather, should have ended with his crowdwork special
There should be some that allow it and some that don’t.
Now audiences come to clubs expecting to be part of the show. They think they doing you a favour.
Unless you’re prompted, shut up.
If I come out to city and watch three straight crowd work comics I might off myself
Matt Rife isn't funny
crowd work sucks
crowd work is fine if you do it while they are cashing out checks..not your whole bit.
Yes, please. Like Sam said, when you got an hour plus, sure add some if you’re good, but to make it your whole act. Ugh.
Sam does not belong at this level lol this has gone on long enough
Crowd work is for comedians with no material .
I want to hear comics make fun of my town. I don't care about the people in it.
I mean...Jimmy Fallon wouldn't really know comedy if he saw it.
yes please get rid of the crowdwork
As an audience member I feel like it’s super lazy. Go write a few jokes for your paycheck idk
It’s fine as long as your face isn’t put on social media.
Yes
I LOVE crowd work!!
Crowd work is great... I think people who can't do it dislike it.
I'm guessin you're amazing at it
Let comics do whatever they want….the market will decide.
Matt rife is a failure of a comedian hack
Redbar did an exposé on Matt Rife... Yikes
I’m funnier then all you muppets
Brain dead take for anyone to think so
You do cellars and stores to work on material
Crowd work is the essence of comedy is it cheap sure but it’s there
Crowd work is for beginners. Cringe AF
Crowd work can be fine once in awhile but not when that's your whole thing. I've noticed the crowd work thing is only popular amongst the bro comics who didn't put in the work and used tik tok to get famous.
Yeah cause it fucking sucks
If mark normand was funny he'd be a great comedian.
Matt rife does this sh*t way too much, I’m convinced he isn’t very funny unless he interacts with a woman in his audience.
Stav
crowd work is for comedians who suck
matt rife is not funny
I love a good riff but holy hell. It’s stand up not 20 questions 😂
Overrated
You couldn't do crowd work in today's climate. These guys would cancel you instantly.
today's comedy boom climate?
@costcoexecutivemember didn't you get the memo? You're not allowed to say anything today. Especially things you just said.
Idk what you're talking about but I've been seeing more crowdwork and dark humor now than ever before. Atleast in the US. This isn't 2019 anymore the cancel culture boogeyman shit doesn't fly anymore lmao.
Either this is a bad attempt at a joke, or you're completely out of touch. Crowd work is literally more popular then it has ever been.
@@japaneseproctolgist Just a boomer complaining about shit that doesn't exist.
Sign that Trump should win.
It's funny that you think you're funny. Eh...??? Lol
