The first pilgrims that landed in Plymouth Rock in the boat the mayflower they were all religious prisoners they were sent by the British parliament because they were not Catholic so they took all the Christians and they put them on a boat and they had plans on sending them back to where Christopher Columbus was But there was a big storm and that’s when the mayflower landed on Plymouth Rock so all the people that had first came to what we now know, as the United States were actually religious prisoners because the parliament, which were Catholic did not want Christians in Great Britain, because Christians served under the one true lord, which is God, not a king because the king is a false Idol, so when the pilgrims landed at Plymouth rock They started making friends with the Native Americans or Indians and the British parliament found out that the prisoners that they sent over to America were thriving at that time so the parliament goes well. We have to shut that down we have to control them so what we’re gonna do is we’re going to empty our prisons and we’re going to empty our mental institutions, or asylums or whatever you wanna call it and send them over so that’s what they did and when the prisoners landed, back at Plymouth Rock and other locations they started attacking and killing the Native Americans Indians here in the United States, and that’s what brought all the crime into the United States but everybody over here, in the very beginning was God-fearing Christians that were persecuted because of their belief

To explain Ft. McHenry, it was protecting against the British entry into Baltimore, one of the largest cities in the United States at the time. If that fort didn’t fall and the British marched to Baltimore, they would have taken too many casualties to warrant an attack

The original video is filled with inaccuracies, misrepresentations of the truth, and downright lies. Just a few examples of many. Key went to negotiate the release of one prisoner. It was not the full might of the British navy it was about 20 ships. Also the flag was not held up by the dead. There were 4 people killed in the battle. It was most definitely a military fort as it was protecting the harbor and the city of Baltimore. You can read Lieut. Colonel Armistead first hand account to James Monroe online at the Smithsonian Institution. Armistead was the commander of the fort during the battle.

As an American and a veteran, I am proud to have served my country. The flag is just a piece of cloth, BUT what the flag stands for is what makes the American people stand out above most other countries. The flag stands for FREEDOM, INDEPENDENCE and JUSTICE FOR ALL. That is what the flag stands for. I will ALWAYS stand for the flag and kneel for the cross. This is why our flag must never hit the ground. Because of all the brave individuals that kept our flag flying at the time. Now America is not the only country that has freedom, but the American people I think value our freedom more than most. The flag is what we, as Americans fight for to keep the freedoms that we have.
We as Americans try to help as much as we can towards our fellow country men and women. The freedoms that we have is what makes Americans so proud to be Americans. God Bless the U.S.A.
Edit: When watching the video, the men down in the holds of the ships, they could care less about the bombing that was going on, only where was the flag was and was the flag still flying. That alone tells of the way the Americans are still today. Proud to be an American.

Just after 9/11 while Americans were prevented from going back to the United States there were U.S. citizens gathered to watch the changing of the Guard. Queen Elizabeth asked that the American Nation Anthem be played breaking with tradition, the Queens Band played the anthem as Americans standing outside the gates of Buckingham Palace standing tall with their right hands resting over the hearts. The truth is that rabid patriotism is in decline in America. When you have up to 1/3 of military members recommending family not to enlist, when previously it was considered familial tradition to join military service, it is a sign of changing opinions in the nation.
Regardless where you stand in the argument of politics, it is hard to argue against the fact that America has become an empire, something that was not intended from its outset, and we have plenty of history to show that empires follow predictable cycles. The golden age is over and the empire is in decline. A real discussion has begun about a national divorce, due to political and moral divisions beginning to widen to a point that you can barely call it a unified culture. America was one of the greatest experiments in freedom ever concocted, and what is born from its transmogrification may be the next great experiment. This does not diminish the history of struggle and determination that created the most powerful civilization on record. If anyone here takes offense to what I say here, thank you. America is about debate, discourse, and coming to a common agreement. Be the change you want in the world, do not hate your brother over 1% of things you vehemently disagree on, instead improve the world together on the 99% you agree on. Do not force your beliefs on others, and do not impede on another’s beliefs as long as they are not forcing them on those who do not want them. Freedom, or something like that.

It's always good to take pride in your country. despite America and the UK having a rocky relationship at the start, the UK's been a valuable Ally in both world wars, and even in the fight to abolish slavery. In history class my teacher made us watch Amazing grace (2006) which is a great British show about William Wilberforce fighting to abolish slavery. I know that has nothing to do with the 4th, but it's important to remember that our ancestors fought together and achieved great things and it's good to take pride in that fact.

The American national anthem always makes me emotional, and has since I was a kid, and I didn't fully understand why until this video. It's not some weird form of overzealous patriotism. It's the fact that 250 years later, I can FEEL the hope, the pride, the pain, and the awe that was written into those words. And it serves the purpose it was supposed to when it was written: to remember those people who sacrificed themselves to keep the flag standing.
I didn't know the story until this video. Growing up, I was just told "It's to honor our soldiers" but...
Those weren't just soldiers. Most of them were civilians. And that? The thought of someone who had no bindings to their army giving their life for a SYMBOL of an idea, the want for freedom, for better for future generations? THAT is what is what I want to honor. (That does still include soldiers, before anyone gets in a huff.)
I no longer find it strange how much we revere our flag. It's true that most countries don't fawn over their flag like we do. I didn't know why we do, either (and I'm sure most of us now, don't.) But knowing this, I respect it a lot more, and I understand why we hold it central to us as a nation. It's just a shame that a lot (I wouldn't be surprised if MOST) of us don't know this about our own country. I don't agree with a lot of what we did as a country throughout our history (or what we're doing now, in a lot of cases,) but knowing our history is so important.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and your honest reaction. Seeing someone who isn't American also get emotional over our anthem is a beautiful thing. It reinforces the intention of why it was written in the first place.
It's not about kings, or presidents, or even soldiers. It's about us. Humanity. People.
And I can be proud of that.

I am an American, in the same age range I agree with most of what you said but saying that "everyone wants to be here" is just inaccurate. There are hundreds of millions (perhaps more) of people across the globe that love their countries and wouldn't relocate to the U.S. even if you paid them.
Immigration happens for a variety of reasons, ie: war, government corruption, crime, violence, persecution, economic reasons, job opportunities, educational purposes, etc. Many of these people would prefer to stay in
their country of origin if it were possible. We sure don't see Canadians rushing our border or the British, French,
Swiss, etc. just to name a few. Not all immigration is to the U.S, so clearly many people prefer to immigrate elsewhere.
If you watch enough programming you would even hear people in war torn countries say they would never leave their county. We are not the only nation of people who love and are loyal their country. Oh wait. let me qualify that statement by saying" some" Americans. We have Americans here now that should pack up and immigrate asap to the country of their choice so we can free up space for those who truly wish to be here. People who would be proud and thankful to call themselves Americans for all the rights, privileges and opportunities they might not have in their home country. Just my humble opinion. :)

For all Americans happy 4th of July. Not surprised you didn’t know what this anthem represents. The British Empire hides a lot of its history in the education. There are a few national anthems about getting freedom from British rule. As an Irish woman our anthem is one of them. The British people are friendly and very welcoming. The Empires past is shameful but not British people. This was truly a lovely honest reaction to the American Anthem which I respect so much because of its deep meaning. Lets hope one day there will be no more wars and we can all just respect each other.

This version is exaggerated significantly, but the core of it is true.
The reason that the British attacked Ft. McHenry was because it was the primary protection of Baltimore, which was at the time, the most strategic trade hub in America connecting the Northern and Southern States/Colonies. If the British had succeeded in taking the Fort, Baltimore would have been taken and the young American Nation would have been split in half. It would have effectively enabled the British to win the War of 1812, sometimes called the 2nd War of Independence.

what was true? of the salient points, i counted only 3 true facts mentioned in this drivel.
      1. there was a conflict with the UK
      2. Francis Scott Key was there
      3. FSK wrote a poem that later became the national anthem
aside from that, it's pretty much all fiction.

    • @boyscoutmatt

At the time of the bombardment the British had already lost the battle on land and had no hope of ever occupying Baltimore. The fort did prevent the British from shelling the city though. Also, one might argue the British did win the War of 1812, as they achieved all of their war goals, an end to American attacks and a stable US-Canada border. Re-taking the Colonies was never an option or a goal for the British.

What bravery and sacrifice, and beautifully described that the patriots would pick it up and hold it high, even knowing that their doing so would be temporary as they would die doing it, but did so for freedom.

This story is commonly taught in all elementary schools in the USA in like 2nd grade when the national anthem is discussed, but most people forget it. when Hamilton the Broadway musical came out in 2015 everyone gained a HUGE interest in the Revolutionary war and Fort McHenry has had a ton more visitors than it has had in ages. So the story has grown into much more common knowledge among young adults since then.
