I had an iPad 3, it was my first personal device which I got when I was 8. I used it until a few months ago, when I upgraded to the 3rd gen Pro. It still works quite well for things that don’t need much interaction, like watching videos, but is awful for most other things as it’s very slow.

Same can be said for the iPod touch 5th gen. Was the best for its time. First to step away from metal, bigger screen, a design so iconic that its still being used on the iPod touch 7th gen, and faster than its predecessor. Than it became the worst iPod.
The same goes with the 4s 😔 It had most, if not all the features of iOS 6 and it ran even better than iOS 5, and it was really snappy, then iOS 8/9 came...
My dad still uses his every day, since May 2012. Still on the original battery! And yes, he uses it for streaming! I’m thinking of getting him the iPad 9 for Christmas.
Crazy how the iPad 3 is the first iPad my family had ever gotten, and it’s still with us, working on ios 5 I couldn’t update since the brick had like no storage left... guess it’s nice that I still have a smooth working ipad 3 :)

I'm 24... the original iPad dropped when I was a teenager; looking back at it now, it seems absolutely _archaic._ I've still got an iPod touch 4 gifted to me for Christmas 10 years ago and it's almost unfathomable to me that I've had, and used, that device for so long. (it still plays music in my car attached to an FM adapter!)
I just turned 25 on the 11th of November and I legit remember when they announced the first iPad. I was obsessed with the iPods at the time especially the nano. I always looked forward to their September music events. It was such a different Apple back then. Remember when they discontinued the iPad 4, then sold the iPad 2, but then turned around and brought back the 4th gen before introducing the Air 2? Such a weird time that was.

The iPad 3 was actually my first ever iPad and only just recently upgraded to the new iPad Pro. The main feature I wanted it for was the fantastic screen and I always loved just how crisp it looked. It might not have been the fastest after a while. But except for the lack of app support today it’s still good enough to just watch some movies or videos. Even though everybody recognizes it as the worst iPad, it was one of the best devices I ever had. So many good moments using it in my childhood (mostly for games :P). Always was reliable. Same goes for the Air 2, got me through highschool and it's still working perfectly just like day 1 (which is quite surprising).
Ah yes, the *NEW* iPad. The Retina display was incredible at the time, but the internal specs weren’t ready for 4x the pixels. The 4th Gen iPad released a few months later was much better.
Still handles iOS 9 better than iPad 2 and at least had a stronger GPU. The iPad 1 and iPhone 4 used the same GPU as the 3GS but had much higher quality screens and they’re much slower than the iPad 3 no matter what firmware they’re on.
I actually still have one at home but the main purpose of that one these days is being a screen for the camera (Running 9.3.5 for the sake of App support). This device was pretty much my daily driver from it's release in 2012 up until iOS 9 came in and then I just moved on to the iPad Air 2 instead. iOS 8.4.1 was actually running decently on iPad 3 and I believe it should have stopped right there.
I bought iPad 3 when it first released and used up until recently when I bought iPad 6. iOS 7 made the iPad 3 seem much faster and like a brand new tablet. I didn't notice performance loss with iOS 8, but iOS 9 did make it get slow and almost unusable at times. I've been cautious with iOS updates every since. I still like to use it for delisted apps like Bookworm and Peggle, and other old apps. Now I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade iPad 6 to iOS 15. I hate updates that slow down your entire system.
The iPad 3 was my first Apple product, which I still use today. It survived thousands of kilometers, countless flights, family trips and other adventures. I fall asleep listening to podcasts on it pretty much every day. Sure, its sluggish since iOS 9 but for what I need it today, its still works. And the battery holds up!
Was at one point. Is now little more than a paperweight because of Apple's forced obsolescence. Terrible performance on the few apps that still work. RUclips hasn't worked in a long time, for instance.
@@epoggg3672 Yeah you can still use RUclips through the Safari Browser but it pales in comparison. Not to mention the Safari web browser itself is probably a huge risk to use as it hasn't received any updates in forever. Many websites simply will not allow access through the Safari Browser on these older ipad models, either.
The iPad 3 was actually my very first iPad...then in 2016 I upgraded to the 9.7" iPad Pro...which I still use to this day. Watching this really reminds me of how wise a decision I made when I traded up to that second iPad.
This was my first iPad and really regretted it. Ended up getting an Ipad Mini 2 18 months later which means this didn't have a very long life for me. This seems like a complete misfire by Apple. Two releases in 1 year for the same product line is not a good look in my opinion.
I had an iPad 3 and at the time it was amazing. I played a whole variety of games like RAD Soldiers, Metalstorm and Metalstorm Aces, Respawnables, Injustice, Clash of Clans, and Blitz Brigade. Great memories. It’s sad to say that virtually all of these titles cease to exist now, but I’m glad I could experience them when they released.
I remember wanting an iPad for so long, and waiting patiently for the retina display I loved on my iPhone 4 (I nearly bought the iPad 2 so many times). I was super excited the get the 3 and loved it.... I was very annoyed when they dropped the iPad 4.
I use iPhone 4s (it’s even older than iPad 3) and it’s usable lol. First iPad Air isn’t outdated, it’s still supported by Apple (they release security updates for it)
@@СашаЛобанов-я8в we clearly have different definitions of usable, the fact that it turns on and you can sort of browse the web with it doesn't turn the iphone 4s into an usable device, I'd say the lowest end in usable iphones right now is the first iphone SE, I just had to change my iphone 5s because of the same thing, they just don't feel like they can with all the apps I use, if not even facebook is fluid then to the recycling bin it goes
I agree about the 1st iPad Air, I upgraded to the iPad Pro back in august. It was 6 years old, very slow and the battery couldn’t last more than 30 mins.
I had to have two iPad 3’s replaced because the Home button failed. But REMEMBER, I can still load content onto it from my Mac via iTunes and the screen is still great. Yes, it’s outdated, but beautiful.
I got mine on March 16, 2012, or about 9 days after launch. I still have it on my desk and these days it's a glorified iPod. By the way, an interesting comparison to the iPad 3 swiftly being replaced by the 4 is the low-end 13 inch MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air being replaced by their ASi counterparts a few months later.
I remember how much the iPad 3 to 4 transition in such a short time, really peeved me! Why did they think such a major upgrade only a few months later made a brand new one! I ran that iPad for a few years, taking it to school and not upgrading anymore, till the iPad Pro 12.9 was announced. I’d bought every iPad before the 3 as a big fan of them, and the quick seeming failure of the iPad 3 really got me off the brand. Happy Apple has made it better with newer models
I’m always so surprised how well the Retina Display screens have held up with time. Not as clean as my iPad Air 3, but damn, the colors still look so good on these older iPads.
I love my Ipad 3! I got a ton of use out of it and I guess I didn't notice it being slow. It played movies, held all my photos, I could do eBay sales on it. Loved it, loved it loved it! My grandkids could play on it. Then it wouldn't update anymore. I couldn't download the Mercari app. I realized this Ipad 3 was coming to the end of it's life. Today it is a book reader and watch Netflix. So Black Friday 2019 I bought the Ipad 7 from Target for $229. Today I just ordered the new Ipad 9 $329 and did the apple trade in for Ipad 7 for $200.
@@Lionheart463 It was back in 2017 when I did it. I needed to first jailbreak the iPad, install SSH, then used odysseusOTA2.4 to then drop the kloader into the iPad. It was a whole bunch of steps, but works!
I still have mine jailbroken and still on iOS 5.1.1. Obviously don’t use it anymore, but it’s nice to see iOS 5 in all that Retina display glory. I actually somehow loved mine even more after seeing some CNET show where they placed a bare iPad 3 into liquid nitrogen, dropped it from a ladder and then it immediately booted... I really wasn’t the smartest.
I'd like to point out that, because the battery is double the size of iPad 2, it also takes double the time to charge up. The 4x screen resolution also causes an issue that the iPad 3 losses power when using it while being charged at the same time.

I had iPad 3, I never understood why so many people hated on it. To be honest, it seems like a thought up problem. That iPad was fast, responsive, had great battery life. Only downside was, that it had 30pin connector, which was updated to lightning about half a year later. So why so much fuzz?
I didn't get into tablets until the first Air and I loved that thing. I've used a 2 a few times and it was not good (granted that was in 2019) and never used a 3, but my in-laws gave me their old 4 and it's made a great little e-reader/streaming device. It's a little slow, and I can't get certain apps, but it can still serve a purpose.
My dad has the iPad 3 32 GB WiFi+Cellular. He got it for his birthday soon after the iPad 4 was released, as the iPad 3 was significantly discounted (still very expensive device for the time though). One of the reasons for iPad 3 instead of 4 was also the 30-pin connector, as at the time he also had an iPod touch 4th gen. and therefore could use the same charger. And he uses it still, for web browsing, reading news, using maps and listening to radio and podcasts he doesn't need anything much better.
Yeah, I upgraded from an original to this back in 2012, was great at first, that retina display was mind-blowing at the time, but the device did struggle sometimes trying to push it. I was shocked when Apple came out with the 4th gen so soon after. I held onto it until I upgraded to a 4th gen iPad mini.
I just bought mine a week ago from a thrift store for 13 bucks. It runs very well once I turned off all of the iOS 9 animations and background services, plus all of my games that I purchased on various sales when I had an iPhone 4S run great on here. You're right though, I'm an edge case most people wouldn't know to turn off everything nor would they have a large library of software from that era.
@@stinkery I have both of those lmao, iPad mini 2 and iPad 2, but, the iPad Mini 2 has a shattered screen, it still works but i can't use it without cutting my finger
I bought one of these on release day back in 2012 when I was in 9th grade. It turned a lot of heads and it was very groundbreaking back in the day and was still before everyone seemed to have them. It was my very first iOS device, which I spent the previous summer saving up for. However, the worst thing about was the charge time because it has a significantly larger battery, but the same sized power brick as the iPad 2
Just got mine in the mail today. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
I had an iPad 3 back in the day. I actually ran the iOS 7 beta on it. The device was definitely underpowered, and iOS 7 ran even worse in the betas than it did when Apple actually released iOS 7.
Yea, totally agree, underpowered from day one! However, there is still a ton you can do with them... I have two of these, jailbroken and packed with a ton of Mame roms, then dropped into the lovely 'Ion iCade cabinet'... Vintage gaming bliss!!! I also have two ipad minis (1st gen) packed with roms, snuggled nicely into a 'Gamevice' grip. Then loaded with every mega-drive game ever released... Also, Mega-CD, SNES, NES, Gameboy etc You can grab an iPad mini in UK for about £20, and the Gamevice for around a tenner!
I got the iPad 3 on the day it went on sale. It was my first iPad and I still use it today. It's great for reading magazines and comics or for playing vertical arcade games in MAME in an iCade case.
I still use mine weekly, watching Netflix and reading comics on it it's great. I actually don't think it's way too slow to be usable. Although I don't do anything that heavy on it.
I had one, the screen was absolutely gorgeous, but the lack of power got pretty obvious after iOS 7, it was horrible to use after updating. Night and day ... so horrible that I passed it to my parents and got an iPad 4 instead. Basically it was the same, just with better performance.
I own an iPad 3 with jailbreak and runs smoothly, excellent as ebooks reader, web browsing, editing texts, watching movies in HD and play SNES games hehehehe. The battery life is impressive until these days.
@@stinkery Only for a few reasons. 1. It’s 7 years old. 2. SSD failures and slowdowns 3. Apple A7 chip 4. iOS 12.4.9 (I use 12.4.8) 5. APP COMPATIBILITY although it is alright it doesn’t run latest version of most
Watching this in 2023. Found my iPad 3 in a drawer with a cracked screen/digitizer, replaced it for a 11$ and a couple hours of tedious prying and adhesive removal. It will probably stay out for a week before going back into the drawer. But why do you have to hold the iPads over the balcony railing? It's triggering my anxiety!!!
There was no MacBook with retina back then! I remember being totally addicted to iOS 6 Maps Flyover mode when it came out, and being glued to my iPad 3 which had the only way to fly over photographic buildings on a larger screen. Really hard to tear myself away.
I remember sitting on my couch STUNNED at hearing my brand new iPad would be “discontinued” and made obsolete after 6 months. The only change I could see was the new lightening connection. Apple never explained or apologized to the millions of iPad buyers why they couldn’t wait a full year to introduce the next one.
@@tony24-u9x maybe “obsolete” was not the correct term. Yes, I continued to get updates, but once the 4 came out the 3 disappeared from Apple store. Only the new iPad Mini, lower priced iPad 2, and the fourth-generation iPad were available. The IPAD 2 and 4! After only 6-7 months? It was like the iPad 3 never existed. Obsolete might not have technically been the correct word, but Apple’s move fit the everyday use case for that word to a tee.
I used an iPad 3 for about a year and for the most part it was pretty good however it started to get really slow on iOS 9 so I had no choice but to upgrade to an iPad Pro and I sold it but I kinda miss that iPad 3 it got me through some hard times. It could have been my mistake by updating it to the newest compatible Operating system (IOS 9.3.5) but it was a pain to use and was painfully slow as for the storage or lack of storage in this case I had a 64GB unit so it was not that bad storage wise every thing else sucked about the iPad 3 in my opinion.
I remember playing on the white iPad 3 my cousin had, it was the first time I could play actually hd quality games with a touch screen, I always had an iPhone 3G s playing meh looking games, and it changed everything. But it was my cousin’s, so I got to use it only once. This was fun to use for a day.
I got one and used it on my nightshifts indeed for Netflix. I was sad when support for the app dropped but then realised how to use discontinued apps. I was always confused how slow it was. I have iPod Touches that are older and run fluent. Interesting to hear why. Thx
This are my opinions and perspectives in this iPad; -In terms of the display it's still good. -In it's performance, the software is okay but when playing games it always lag. -The camera is good, able to shoot great photos with it. -But it only supports iOS 9, which means you cannot play and download games that aren't even supported by that software.
I have two of these, one was lost for nearly ten years and is still running ios 5.1 and it’s lightning fast, the other one on ios9 is an absolutely painful experience.
I had an iPad 3 for a long while. I didn't really notice the slowdown, but that's likely because I had started using it less and less, generally using my iPhone more often. Though looking back, I'm sure that the slowdown may have had something to do with that at least on a subconscious level. But, after years of using the iPad 3 just as an ebook reader (I buy all my ebooks on Apple Books and I used my iPhone for everything else), I've finally moved on. First, to a hand me down iPad 4 and then to an iPad Pro a couple of months ago. I literally went from having no smartphone at all (I was 12 when I got the iPad 3), to an iPhone 5, to an iPhone 7, and finally to an iPhone 11 in the time I had the iPad 3!
Despite the Retina display and all the good the iPad 3 brought... it may just be the worst iPad of all time.

Watching this really reminds me of how wise a decision I made when I traded up to that second iPad.
iPad 3 was and is a great iPad, still have mine and use it for RUclips and podcasts
I was very annoyed when they dropped the iPad 4.
even my ipad air (the first air) feels old now, with all those super heavy apps, the ipad 3 is just not really usable anymore
It was 6 years old, very slow and the battery couldn’t last more than 30 mins.
perfect timing I just broke mine a few hours ago.

I had to have two iPad 3’s replaced because the Home button failed. But REMEMBER, I can still load content onto it from my Mac via iTunes and the screen is still great. Yes, it’s outdated, but beautiful.
This was my first iPad. I used it a lot when my 2008 Macbook was slowing down, and I got a good discount on it after the iPad 4 came out.
I didn't watch this on an iPad 3, I just felt like commenting

@@sylvanaragui2745 is it good to use now? i want to buy it so much 🥺
I got mine on March 16, 2012, or about 9 days after launch.
I still use my iPad 2 for my school notes and runs pretty smoothly, but I definitely liked it better with iOS 6
You’re in luck. You can downgrade to iOS 6 on certain iPads if you’d like.
@@AMacProOwner how do you do that? I have iOS 9 on my old iPad and it is so SLOW. It wasn’t running like this before I updated it recently.
@@Lionheart463 It was back in 2017 when I did it. I needed to first jailbreak the iPad, install SSH, then used odysseusOTA2.4 to then drop the kloader into the iPad. It was a whole bunch of steps, but works!
AMacProOwner thank you so much, definitely will look into doing that to my ipad
I still have mine jailbroken and still on iOS 5.1.1. Obviously don’t use it anymore, but it’s nice to see iOS 5 in all that Retina display glory.
I actually somehow loved mine even more after seeing some CNET show where they placed a bare iPad 3 into liquid nitrogen, dropped it from a ladder and then it immediately booted... I really wasn’t the smartest.
I absolutely love these kind of videos where ur looking at older products years later
My 16GB iPad air 2 only has 1GB of space left with the new update. Thanks, Tim Apple
So why so much fuzz?
i have that ipad...
its screen has been repaired about 5 times now
Love this retro style reviews, subscribed!
I actually use an iPad 3 on IOS 9 to record stuff in Garageband, it is slow, but it's not actually that bad.
I really like the colors in this video. You really know what you’re doing.
i love how he changes his title.
What was the title?
@@sam_64 it was actually iPad 3 in 2020: The Worst iPad Ever? but he changed the date.

I've had one since new, still working well today. Outlived many phones and tablets in my house and used literally daily.
To me the iPad 3 looks absolutely stunning, but dosn't preform like that
I had an iPad 3 back in the day. I actually ran the iOS 7 beta on it. The device was definitely underpowered, and iOS 7 ran even worse in the betas than it did when Apple actually released iOS 7.
When is the iPad 5 video coming out? I’ve been waiting for that.
Actually soon-ish, hopefully! I ordered one yesterday straight from Apple, refurbished.
ed150n_ k0ng yo I'm actually using the iPad 5 right now and it's great
I use one for school
Yea, totally agree, underpowered from day one!
However, there is still a ton you can do with them...
I have two of these, jailbroken and packed with a ton of Mame roms, then dropped into the lovely 'Ion iCade cabinet'...
Vintage gaming bliss!!!
I also have two ipad minis (1st gen) packed with roms, snuggled nicely into a 'Gamevice' grip.
Then loaded with every mega-drive game ever released... Also, Mega-CD, SNES, NES, Gameboy etc
You can grab an iPad mini in UK for about £20, and the Gamevice for around a tenner!
If you had an iPad 3 today, can you somehow downgrade it back to iOS 5.1.1?
Yes download the file and put it on thanks itunes. There are a lot of videos about downgrade
What iOS are you running?.
I had one, the screen was absolutely gorgeous, but the lack of power got pretty obvious after iOS 7, it was horrible to use after updating. Night and day ... so horrible that I passed it to my parents and got an iPad 4 instead. Basically it was the same, just with better performance.
my ipad4 just turned 8. I want a new one. But my wallet tells me I cant.
I own an iPad 3 with jailbreak and runs smoothly, excellent as ebooks reader, web browsing, editing texts, watching movies in HD and play SNES games hehehehe. The battery life is impressive until these days.
The scenery in your video makes me feel really nostalgic. And the old apple devices are just a cherry on the top.
3:00 is the iPad slowly slipping off there?
Hi! I just watched your mini 2 video on a mini 2, although I would watch this on iPad 3 but I only have iPad 4 haha
The iPad mini 2 sucks. Trust me I know. I’ve used this thing for 7 years-
@@stinkery
Only for a few reasons.
1. It’s 7 years old.
2. SSD failures and slowdowns
3. Apple A7 chip
4. iOS 12.4.9 (I use 12.4.8)
The " iPad new" who remembers Bryan tongs song on that 😂
There was no MacBook with retina back then!
I was wondering if I would get made of if I brought a hand me down iPod 2nd generation to school
Still have this for 7 years and still working. Its still great for watching movies and dramas tho.
I had this iPad- now I have a mini.
I still keep the 3 tho
These complaints are pointless on such an old device. This guy just wants to complain and wants people to hear him complain.
I remember having an Ipad 4, it held up till 2 years ago. Lighting port failed and ended up throwing it away.

This are my opinions and perspectives in this iPad;
-In terms of the display it's still good.
-In it's performance, the software is okay but when playing games it always lag.
-The camera is good, able to shoot great photos with it.
-But it only supports iOS 9, which means you cannot play and download games that aren't even supported by that software.

I'm literally in the same room as my iPad 3
lmao same... i feel like cheating bc we had such good times with it back in the days...
