    As a ride operator for a different park - you typically have to wear shoes in case you need to get evacuated from the ride outside the station - those catwalks get HOT and also shoes will give you proper grip!

    This is good information. I only worked Halloweekends a couple times but still kept coming across snarky, overconfident, arrogant, and ignorant people that worked there. STILL. Because I love amusement parks and was so rewarded to be able to work at one, I really have great memories and met some incredibly nice and fun people......some from other parts of the world. LOVE the guests!

    Former Area Sup for rides at a smaller park. Whole lot of this stuff is pretty spot on. Want to provide a couple of pointers I've noticed got missed. Esp to those ops that have found this and are trying to move into leadership. May have missed some here and there but here's my big 3. Long ass comment so take your time to read it or w/e idm. Hope it's helpful for some of ya'll.
    1. Time management. While bigger rides close later than smaller rides. You do a great job covering why they sometimes close later than others buit there's another reason why so many parks are pushing to get them closed down faster and this is one of the more in-depth reasons they want to see team members actually working fast. At my park, so I'm not gunna go into detail of the park name, ride names etc. for my own sanity but we had a Vekoma SLC and our crew there didn't finish running down the line until 1:47 AM on a 11 PM closing day and we had a huss manufactured ride also kind of in the same area, the one operator there got done right on time. It's not about getting the extra hours or etc. The reason they didn't run down that line as fast is because so many guests have figured out the get in line before sups close the line off at the end of the night trick. I'm sure other parks have exceptions for this now but when I worked where I was, it was always sups will close the line at close, let ride ops know line is closed off so you now know it's run down the line until no guests are there time. Now here's the bigger problem. I can tell you area supervisors will still have to sign you out so in this story, me. What did that look like for me? I was able to sign out the others who ran down their line and did a quick clean around their ride but these guys were still in which means 1. I couldn't leave yet 2. Senior management couldnt leave yet and 3. Park services couldnt start their job. The Vekoma SLC team still had to clean their area so It was nearly 2:30 AM by the time I signed them out so long story short: Thje faster you AND your team can actually run down that line at closing time and get your ride area cleaned, less stress you put on your supervisors if you're night shift. Morning and Mid-day don't get that same stress because they don't have to do all of the closing lists.
    2. Paperwork! I don't know if Team Members at CP are allowed to fill these out or if it's Leads and above only but there's always something called a pre-opening checklist. This is what both maintenance and ride ops have to fill out and complete before rides are open, Maintenance had to do it first because they obviously have to initial it before they hand the ride out to team members. Your supervisor will be given the signal for your ride like half an hour before team members start arriving. I canno't stress this enough however, Use your legal name AND a black/blue pen. If you use your nickname that you get called by co-workers a lot or use say a pink pen, a pencil, we're going to be asking 'who signed this?' and give out a 'this does not look like this was filled out properly' kind of vibe; Just like the gotta have your name tag and proper uniform on, you will get in trouble for this as well usually.
    3. Other leadership positions. I cannot stress this enough as well. A lot of team members will have euthansism for moving up but it's a tricky process like legitmately it was tricky for me at first and it took me 2 seasons to become a trainer and another 2 to Team Lead & Area Sup. I cannot count how many first teachbacks I've given team members who are soon to be trainers and their first scores were 3/16 up to a 5/16 (ANYONE who has gone through this entire process will know what I'm talking about with these numbers). These are usually used as a baseline to see which areas you need to improve because god forbid if we had trainers that did not cover everything then that would not look good and the company that does the audits WILL ALSO audit every trainer on those extra 8 componets not just the standard 10 the team members have (Again, if you gone through this process you know what I'm talking about here). Also part of moving around on a ride so much... Just keep in mind that's going to be benficial for you because there hasn't been a single day where I was an Area Supervisor where I wasn't walking around the entire park answering radio calls so my legs are usually burning by my lunch break which is usually a 60 instead of a 30 because Sups are full day not a 1 shift where I worked at. Also have a bunch of other crazy stories but that's for another day.

    As a ride operator at a Six Flags park most of this advice carries over. The best part is always meeting new people and making life long connections!! Six Flags definitely has more of a ride rotation for their operators it sounds like compared to Cedar Point.

    • @Graciefarmer
      @Graciefarmer  4 месяца назад +1

      Thats what ive heard! The Six Flags ride ops ive met said they switch between a few rides often, which I think is really cool!

      At a small amusement park I worked at, our rotations would have a couple of kiddie rides and one or two flat rides. The big rides were their own rotation. We rotated every hour which was very nice. There were a couple of rides that were really not liked at all for some reasons and it was nice to be there for just an hour!!! The carousel was the worst.

    Did a brief stint at iron dragon in 2022. I didn't have what it takes and also got covid so ended up leaving. This year I'm interning at my home park instead in the warehouse for supply chain management which is what I want to do after graduation in December, either there or a logistics company in the area. Will be much more physical. The best part of living and working at CP was being on the bus line and going to Mass and Confession at Ss. Peter and Paul's, or St. Mary's downtown.
    I do miss my Dragon though. spieling was fun ngl. I may consider cross-training on rides at my home park for more hours and also because if you're full-time there I think you have to work a certain number of hours front-line to understand the guest experience so if i want that i need to act like it.

    Hi, I’m interested in possibly working at CP next summer. Loved it since I was little. The only thing that stressed me out it having to walk of the lifthill during an e-stop or anything. Is that something any ride op has to do? I would prolly be fine doing something like that on Gemini, but something even like Magnum or SteVe would prolly stress me out tbh. Do you think that means it’s probably not the job for me? Is it common for an employee to be nervous about something like that? Thanks! Don’t be afraid to tell me the hard truth
