Memories! When my mother made hot chocolate, she would use baker's chocolate from the market (dark chocolate, not sweet, in a fine powder), and mix it into hot milk along with brown sugar (although white sugar is OK). The secret to great hot chocolate is just a pinch of salt added, and a drop of vanilla extract.

    Best hot chocolate recipe!
    Full fat milk. No 2%!
    Good quality cocoa powder
    Powdered sugar
A shake of dried red pepper flakes
    Butter
Warm together in a pot and mix well. Add a pat of butter to each cup, pour hot chocolate over the top. Garnish with whipped cream, cinnamon, chocolate sprinkles, marshmallows etc. Just plain is best! Warms you up inside and out, and has enough fat that it's very very filling.

No matter what part of the world you are from hot chocolate will always be a pleasure to drink. I know it's not "healthy, healthy" but compared to lots of other things it can be healthy and have lots of healing properties. Hot chocolate is already delicious - but there's so much more to it, for example - its origins are that of a holy drink, among the ancient Mesoamericans of todays Mexico and Central America, this drink was quite different from what we enjoy today, but it is the ancient origin, as a sacred drink!
Also - Chocolate has properties similar to mild intoxicants, adding a sense of joy and pleasure beyond simply the flavor!
Not to mention - in any country that has freezing cold, snow and icy winters, hot chocolate is intrinsically tied to that great relief of coming in from the cold, your cheeks red, your nose dripping, and then sipping down a nice, hot cup of chocolate, warming you right up, lifting your mood - it truly is a sacred drink, in many different aspects :D

    • @pietrayday9915

There are places you can get powdered raw cacao (an ingredient of dark chocolate), often mixed with other all-natural ingredients, which is supposedly healthier to drink than "regular" hot chocolate.
I've got some like this, it tastes fantastic I think anyone who likes cheap hot chocolate will probably like the "healthy" stuff just as much, if not more!), I drink it in hot vanilla-flavored almond milk on really cold days.
I'm not sure it's really that healthy in large amounts, whether it's the cheap stuff or the fancy all-natural dark cacao stuff, but it's definitely a morale-booster and comfort food, especially on cold, gloomy days - there's absolutely nothing quite like coming in from a day of shoveling snow, to wrap yourself in a heavy quilt or comforter by a hot wood-stove or fireplace, to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa!
They sell "Mexican Cocoa" in some groceries here in the USA - I bought a few boxes years ago, and I'm starting to run low now. I'm not sure what's different about it from "regular" hot cocoa, but it's delicious. They also sell hot cocoa with little (dehydrated) marshmallows, and gourmet hot cocoa in different flavors - white chocolate, caramel, dark chocolate, and the like, and I've stashed away a bunch of those too for a snowy day, and they're excellent. Really, hot cocoa is great stuff to experiment with different flavors in - cinnamon, vanilla, marshmallows, and mint go really well with hot cocoa! (When I was a kid, my mother sometimes used to top it with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candy canes! Great memories of coming in to that after playing in the snow with my brother and sister! :) )

I wish they would offer them some context, that it's not generally a drink you would have daily or in hot weather, but is more a winter treat to have once in a while. Also to explain that it's not "healthy" to drink all the time because it will rot your teeth with all the sugar, although a quick search shows their tea typically has milk and sugar, so they're likely used to dealing with that.

Sarru's 'boom boom clap, boom boom clap" made me think of Queen's "We Will Rock You" song. We here in USA also have cold chocolate milk, that is very yummy. Maybe show them the packets of powered chocolate, and have them make their own chocolate milk.

I live in the USA and so have not had the pleasure of having pure Indian, road-side chai, but we do have chai in many forms here. I love chai ... and I love hot chocolate as well. I love it with marshmallows or whipped cream or cinnamon or ... whatever! Chocolate mixed with coffee is also very popular 😊

I’m fortunate to be able to have authentic chai ! I prefer it without sugar. It’s really quite good !
I like my coffee without sugar or cream but I definitely love hot chocolate and will add it to coffee sometimes in winter .
The lady where I live blends her own chai. Once you’ve had the real thing -the stuff in boxes sold as “ chai “ just won’t do .
Now I’m wondering how she could mix up a hot chocolate using some the spices she uses for her chai !

Chocolate has some caffeine but not as much as coffee or tea. There is sugar in it and some fat if you use whole milk. I use artifical sweetener and skimmed milk. The plain cocoa powder is very healthy.

What? Chocolate isn’t just for kids. Also it didn’t seem very hot, they were able to hold it in their hands, hot chocolate is usually served in a mug because you need a handle to protect your hands from the heat.

we all handle temperatures differently. These men work with their hands so the palms likely are more calloused and therefore thicker. As an example, I can pick up a boiling pot with my bare hands because as a kid I worked part time as a house help.

I can only go by my own opinion, In the US. Coffee is 1. A lot of Soda's like Pepsi, Coke products are consumed.(gags me, but it an addiction here) High energy drinks. (gag):D Then Tea. Hot chocolate is drank mostly at breakfast.(my opinion). Popular with children. Adults do drink it. But now I find it mostly sugared. (gag) and not made with quality chocolate. People have forgotten how the drink water.

The 1st truly international word, "wow"! Please inform Mr. Raeem, that since it is December, here in the U.S., there are a lot of folks who drink this to stay warm in winter, where it gets very cold. A nice hot steamy mug of hot chocolate. Even here in Louisiana, in winter it gets a little cold, so I have some hot chocolate packs in my cupboard.

Raeen is right and wrong regarding Babu , tea, and hot chocolate.
Its true that drinking lots of tea is unhealthy.. especially hard on the kidneys of diabetics like Babu and myself. In 2019 I almost lost my right kidney and my life from drinking excessive amounts of straight black tea. This is what i learned from my illness...
Diabetes can damage kidney and makes them work extra hard to filter glucose out of our bodies. Tea is a diuretic that pushes the kidneys to work even harder. If you dont consume enough sodium, you'll lose lots of it thru your kidneys from the tea and glucose. Babu needs to be very careful.
Babu can't switch from tea to hot chocolate because of the sugar in chocolate. They do have sugar free hot chocolate he can drink though.

Strangely i dislike it. I only tastes the metals present in the cacoa and the sugar when i have chocolate this way. While it also at same time as tasting of metal seems light/weak to my tongue🤷🏻‍♀️. Which gives me feeling of no substance, no satisfaction. Bizarre i know.
I enjoy coffee/espresso, matcha, black and white tea and mint tea.

There is a big difference between drinking chocolate, which most Americans have not experienced but it was an old style, and hot chocolate which is just heated milk with chocolate in it. I only experienced drinking chocolate at Godiva in Disney Springs Florida.

A near cousin of Hot chocolate is Cocoa, which in the West is served as a night cap before bedtime. This uses the grinded down Cacao beans (from Central America) which is the base for chocolate But unlike Hot Chocolate you add milk to suit your taste.
Sarru mentioned Complan which is OK if you are unwell (several flavours). I wonder if the Programme Makers can get hold of Ovaltine which dates back many years(before 1900 ex Switzerland) and serve that to the Panel as a multi choice Hot drink Test?

I love Mexican hot chocolate. More spicy, but not very much. I love with peanut butter toast. It's so food when you come in from being outside from a cold snowy day. Stick with the tea to be healthy. Chocolate, hot chocolate isn't very healthy. It needs to be sweetened
Oh, good with either whipped cream on top or mini marshmellows.
