it's probably just athletics competitive rules. Here they're not limited by those rules, so they can exploit the full body mechanics necessary for a rapid 40 yard dash as opposed to a 100m sprint where you have more room to build up momentum.

Good luck, I'd say it's probably easier to get a great 40 time with age than a great 100m time. Unless you're unfit, you aren't going to hit your top speed in a 40yd dash meaning the 40 is mostly about explosiveness and acceleration and these are skills that can be maintained and trained with age.
@@KX5Kat my daughter timed me doing a 5 sec flat and a couple low 5s a couple of years ago at the local football field and I do love to sprint so at least I'm close 😁
@@Stallagmite That's impressive, but remember, hand-times are WAY off. You're adding your daughters' reaction time, which is around 0.2sec for both the start and finish, so a 5 flat is easily going to be a 5.4sec FAT. If you're not willing to invest in something like a Freelap system (what I use), then the next best thing would be a smartphone app with a good slow motion function. Start the timer after your first movement and have your daughter hold the camera and keep it in line with the finish line so you can time exactly when you cross it.
@@KX5Kat 😁 I had a similar idea- An iphone at the start and one of my video cameras at the finish line. Set them rolling, clap loud at the 20 yard. While the 40 yard dash is important and a good judge of overall athleticism, how often do the athletes have the exact right form (video states inches matter) during a play that is required to run their fastest speed......it doesn't make sense. They're fast, but they never truly run a model 40 during game time.
Yeah they run faster sometimes and slower 😂 it shows how fast they are because all these players are the best athletes ever man they want to be faster than the others
However you can transfer them same mechanics to the game. Mechanics matter. 1. Performance 2. Injury mitigation. These guys learn sprint concepts that can be applied no matter the game situation.
A forty yard dash stance is so stupid. Because I'm going to use that during a game? Should be a wide receiver stance or whatever stance you feel helps you the most. That isn't the stance that helps you the most.

I think this sorta hurts the legitimacy of the 40-yard dash as an assessment tool. The position they ( the players) start from is not similar to the position off the line of scrimmage and a difference in starting technique, rather than speed, might be the difference in a player running a faster 40, which isn't very useful on the football field. I also think the combine can add a metric that measures how fast a player comes off the first 10 yards since that could possibly be the most important for a WR off the line or an offensive lineman. Good production through.
A 4.50 lazer is a good time for him. No one expected him to run a 4.3. His game is route running and body movement, like Chad Johnson or Antonio Brown.
