    Hello Vijitha,
Do not confuse chauvinism with nationalism. People voted for SLPP in 2019 for nationalism but got duped by the SLPP. Chauvinism resonates with racism, a behavior of negative connotations whereas nationalism is NOT. JVP had been nationalistic and always will be(hopefully). The socialistic view of the polity is on top of that nationalism. That was what Wijeweera created and what people in Sri Lanka needed. Whether anybody likes or dislikes it, Sri Lanka that was formerly known as Ceylon was and always has been a Sinhala Buddhist country with minorities that arrived from India and other native tribes co-existed with their own belief systems and culture without any problems. For over two millennia the island had been Sinhala Buddhist state, but collapsed in early 19th century due to internal conflicts and colonialism. Whether it can be a Sinhala Buddhist state in the modern context is debatable, but if the minorities and some of the Sinhala Buddhists themselves cannot call it as a Sinhala Buddhist country, then it would be chasing a wild goose in terms of uniting the country as you will end up with a federal system(unnecessarily and stupidly) and will result in disharmony among different groups(Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher, etc). In addition to that the federal state in North and East will have a very high potential of joining India(particularly Tamilnadu) by declaring independence in future. Such catastrophes can only be averted by accepting the country for what it is, a Sinhala Buddhist country that lives in harmony with Hindu Tamils, Muslims and Christians. Divide and rule is the colonial style of governance to facilitate their needs of ruling by creating disharmony between different groups of people. Unite and rule should be the concept for modern Sri Lanka. You need to devise a power devolution system that will discourage regional tribalism within that framework of unity. Defining and restructuring new provincial division system is the method to go about it. (For example, joining the North and North Central into a single provincial unit will help put an end to northern tribalism, with some strong resistance to it, of course). But, right now, JVP and NPP has a bigger job of fixing the economy which can take quite some time.

Propaganda means exaggeration of truth. Vijitha Herath is not Propaganda Secretary he is communication strategist of JVP.
