I do want to point out however, that rejection is a painful process and at times, depending on how much you like the person, can be heightened by keeping said person in your life. To watch someone you have feelings for fall in love, repeatedly, with someone else aside from you can hurt. So even though it is a great sense of emotional maturity to be able to remain friends, sometimes it’s also important to take space away from that for ones own sake. Especially in the way of coming to terms with the rejection and processing that it isn’t necessarily about the person you are.
