      I do get attached, but the only old camera I still own is the F5. Surprisingly, the Z9 has not endeared itself to me in that way. It is a tool and if I sold it tomorrow it would not be sentimental at all. Perhaps because I have not travelled with it? Perhaps because it is such a technical machine? Perhaps because the image files do not come close to the character I still get from my D750 sensor?

    Hi Julian: Thanks for sharing some of your impressive shots that you have created with your Nikon Z7 over the past four years. Getting new camera gear is always an exciting time. I hope that you enjoy your new Z8. I might be leaning going back to Nikon from my existing Sony kit based on the reviews I have been seeing on the Z8. Keep well. Cheers, Keith

      Thanks Keith. Yes, new camera day is always very exciting! A new Z camera is an easy decision for me, but a move from Sony I can imagine is a bit more of a costly exercise. :-)

    Still have mine and don’t regret a day of owning it. When Nikon adds the floppy screen and shutter protection in a Z7lll, that will be the time to move on. Disappointed with the larger size of the Z8 and it does not seem to be an upgrade for landscape. Z8 good for multipurpose and will be a big seller for wedding photographers. Thanks for sharing, Julian.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад +1

      Hey David, I'm not expecting much to change in terms of image quality between the Z7 and Z8. For me it's around the functions and features...such as the sensor shield and flippy screen. Being a content creator as well, the video features are of particular interest. But you are right, if you are looking for a multi-purpose camera it's a great choice. :-)

  • @thephotoyak

    When I upgrade my Z7 I'll keep the Z7 as a back up body. Having experienced a broken camera in a very remote place (fly in only arctic village), it sucks, a back up is a must. I'd only upgrade to the Z8 for wildlife capabilities though. I don't see what the Z8 brings for landscape.
    Great shots!

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад +1

      I agree that a backup is good to have, but a Z7 is worth to much for me to keep it. I do however have the Z fc which will still do the job should I get stuck. I think the value that a Z8 brings to landscape photography is an interesting question and something I will cover in my review. :-)

    For landscape photography you need neither the Z7 II nor the Z8. The latter is heavier by the way than the Z6/Z7 bodies! For general photography, including moving animals, yes the Z8 will be a better performer, if you need that. I still work with my Z6, mainly landscape, and found that for most end-products 24MP are fare enough. You just have not the same potential for cropping compared to a 46MP camera.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад

      Granted, but everyone's needs are slightly different. There are lots of things on the Z8 that I want for my landscape photography. But some people will weight those requirements differently. That's why there is no such thing as a perfect landscape camera for all. :-)

    The Z8 is going to be a good camera, a couple of firmware updates to iron out some bugs and users will be very happy but what will it give you over the Z7? And this is my dilemma, my Z7 is 4.5 years old, it still takes great images so why would I upgrade? I like the shutter blind and the flippy screen on the Z8 but it is still 45mp the same as my Z7 and on a tripod as good a camera as the Z8 is I would struggle to notice any difference between images taken on the two cameras. But the Z8 is tempting.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Год назад +1

      No doubt the Z8 will be a good camera. I've never experienced bugs before in my Nikon cameras but Nikon are at least delivering new features via firmware updates so it will be interesting to see what they deliver to the Z8. I'm not expecting there to be much different in image quality between the Z8 and the Z7. For me The Z8 is all about the features and improvements that aren't present in the Z7.
