RAT ROD TRANSVERSE LEAF SPRING - SHACKLE ANGLE

  • I install a new transverse leaf spring on the Rogue Rat Rod. The change requires new spring shackles and I have to consider the best shackle angle. I look at the effect of different shackle angles using a model and determine the best angle before making new shackles and installing the new transverse leaf spring.

    Outstand explanation of the design of the spring shackles and shackle angel. You just made it so much easier to understand. Thank you

    Swearing at engineers and their lack of considering the technician who has to work on, and repair their designs happened just yesterday with me. I had to change the low beam headlight on my wife's Ford Fusion. What a nightmare because of poor engineering when it comes to accessing this part of the car. By the way, I am very impressed with how you worked out the problem with your springs.

      Really appreciate you comment! One of my aims with the channel is to try and show that one can build cool stuff without spending megabucks. 😀

    Amazing gems 💎 of information. It makes sense that there be a mathematical equation to figure out the spring spread. I think i will use this gem fo figure out the perch on a trailer axle springs

    I learned a lot with this episode. I always wonder how a suicide front end worked. Your technical process of showing what is right and what would be wrong with different length shackles, was great. I've never seen as much detail in other videos. All of your videos have tidbits of information I can take away from each one.

    Thank you so much, that was the best description of spring and shackle travel. That explained why I had so much drift on my 1923 t-bucket. Thanks from U.S.A.

    You could use your original shackles if you preload or stretch your spring with a bar and clamps. Just a thought

    any idea how you determine roll centre on a traverse leaf spring suspension?

    • @ratrodsafrica
      @ratrodsafrica  Год назад

      Roll center has to be where spring bolts to the frame if you ask me
