    Thank you NISA for the review code! Nayuta no Kiseki, or The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a gaiden to the Kiseki series you can enjoy right now. And I think you should! In this Nayuta Review, I talk about how the game to me feels like a more modern "Brave Fencer Musashi" style Action RPG, the kind you you could play for hours, or pick up and put down easily!

    I'm 30 hours in, and the game does open up a lot more. For a PSP game, there is a lot to do. I'm glad you gave Nayuta some spotlight, I feel like it's been heavily slept on. I played a good amount of new games this year, but this one has been one of my favorites.

    If you liked Ys Origin chances are you’ll like this game too. I loved it. It respects your time while still giving you plenty to sink your teeth into if you want to do the end game content and complete it.

    I kinda wish we could have gotten this review after you finished this game (and maybe after finishing a certain other Trails game too), because if you're only 20% through there's definitely more that could be said later.

    For those who liked this game, I recommend you try "Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection" (2009, Falcom) (Steam, GOG). It's very similar, fun action combat, good story and characters.
    There's also "Zwei: The Arges Adventures" (Falcom) (Steam, GOG), but it's from 2001 and hasn't aged that well, you have to know what you're getting into to enjoy this one.

    This game surprised me, more of a ys game in play style but once the story gets going trails game through and through.
    Also music is great.
    Really good to play a short jrpg.

  • @vagabundorkchaosmagick-use2898

    Thanks for the review, I think I'll pass, it honestly doesn't look like something I will enjoy playing. Not a big fan of action combat in my JRPGs, specially the way that combat was implemented in the 90s and 00s.

    Funny you mention that game cuz I was gonna recommend you a game very similiar to this. In fact, nayuta ia sort of a spritiual successor to it called ZWEI2 - The Ilvard Insurrection, which also oozes with alot of charm in it's dialogues, it's voice acting, it's environment, it's music and also has that cel shading artstyle going for it, alongside the two character gameplay and a unique leveling system. You can even have pets to take them into combat too!
    EDIT: One of the few thigns I didn't like so much about Nayuta was the camera being too close/too far zoomed in while in ZWEI2 it's a bit more zoomed out and more dynamic which makes it easier to hit enemies, dodging them to get the dungeon clear rating for platinum (the highest rank, not a trophy!) up and also to find some somewhat hidden roomswith gadgets and gizmos to make it our own cuz we are a Treasure Hunter in that game.. and no thief, Locke style!

    1 playthrough at hard and 1 at Infinity. After connecting the dots I'm pretty sure it is totally connected to the Trails series, we will see soon enough the more the Trails series progress but there is already some solid evidences imho.

    I really liked this game, I am just sad I emulated this not too long ago, so I don't have the drive to play it again. Who would've thought they would remaster this old game and bring it west after all this time haha. But any who, this game is one of the few action rpgs that felt like a lot more than just an action RPG that keeps getting better as it goes on. Don't underestimate the story either, it gets pretty good. Its no Legend of Heroes story, but this is a Falcom game and Falcom doesn't disappoint.

    Honestly I think this is the weakest Falcom game we’ve gotten. If you compare what all Falcom gave us on the PSP it’s even more of a downer even compared to the Gahgarv Trilogy (though I have a soft spot for them).
    The graphics are great but the story feels half baked and the combat is very dull. I’m about 18 hours in and in the final set of dungeons, but I’m probably going to quit and just sell my limited edition of the game so I can buy something else.
    Sorry to be a downer but I do not understand all of the positive reviews I’m seeing

    • @luminous3558
      @luminous3558 Год назад

      Its a super old game and like Zero and Azure just shouldnt have been sold at the price of a modern game.
      In a few years its probably going to be constantly on sale for pennies which is a much more reasonable price, until then there isn't much reason to pick this over something like a Ys title that costs a third of the price.
      Also the whole baiting about it maybe being related to Legend of Heroes or Trails seems like a cheap way to sell to an audience that isn't into this type of game with the hopes of it giving more info.

    • @JaredScott
      @JaredScott Год назад

      @@luminous3558 I have no problem with the price, I just think compared to the many other Falcom games released it falls short. Ys VI on PSP which was probably the same price at the time was much shorter, and just as simple. But it was much more polished in terms of gameplay and story. My issue is that taking into consideration of what else was released by Falcom at the time Nayuta deserve more scrutiny

    • @maryford3676
      @maryford3676 Год назад +1

      I found it to be in the middle. I enjoyed the systems employed (I bought it because it reminded me of Ys Seven so it exceeded expectations as certain things are more polished in Nayuta). Still reselling my LE like you because that story feels like a rejected Ys script (being with powers in their wings... where have I seen this before? Lol).
      The devs definitely focused on developing a complete game but it also feels like they didn't get to do everything they wanted because there wasn't enough story. It's still better than games that become a mess by the end like Trinity Trigger but nowhere as nice as the top PSP action games.
