I've been coming back to this video every couple years for the past 15 years. I learned how to play this song by watching this video and copying when it first was uploaded as a teenager. Truly my favorite piano cover of any song ever. Thank you for being a major part of my teenage years.
Same! Learned this song from this video. I had never played piano in my life (other than sitting down randomly at church as a kid and pushing keys). After watching this video I bought a Yamaha C3 and taught myself how to play (at 45 yrs old) watching youtube videos. (49 now) Most beautiful instrument.
In Yamaha's the strings are placed differently. The sounds vibrate of the other strings in European versions, in Japanese pianos the strings are in like there own chamber. I watched a documentary on how pianos are made. It was super cool.
I just bought a new roland fp80. Its amazing how much it feels like my friends yamaha. Very happy with it so far. But would still love to own a steinway
I'm a relative novice and I've been trying to switch to left hand like he did for the guitar solo and I'm having a brutal time with it! Tip my hat to you!! lol
Jon Cain plays the individual notes with the left hand, not octaves. It's on Houston live for this song...it's a lot of hand moving this way. Wouldn't be necessary with a bassist.
I'm starting to learn this one, I've played for 9 years and love piano, I fell upon this one and you played it perfectly, I enjoyed listening to it over and over again, well done:)
You literally MADE my day playing this song!!!! It makes me feel so happy inside!!! I have a lot of medical problems, like Degernerative disk disease, fibromyalgia, and am being tested for MS, at 20 years old!!! But This song is probably the best medicine someone could give me!! Thanks for sharing!! =))
So amazing. If I could play the piano, I would play this and other covers everyday. Unfortunately I've never played any instrument and I never even intended to. Now I see that it's such a pity.
Oh I remember you, you did that cover on My Immortal. I can't tell you how much you saved me on that - it really got my piano going again after 3 years of not playing. Love your covers :)
This Is great, one of my favorite pieces by Journey. Very well done, considering it seems to me, very difficult to play both the melody in the background part at the same time on a piano. I am a musician, however I am NOT a piano player, so in my opinion you did very well with this piece. It is a very difficult song to master no matter what instrument you play.
Your version is my favorite version! It's the first time that I really wanna play a song on piano, even though I cannot really play piano. I already can do the verses!
This was so impressive! I love ur version of it and how u vamped it up! I'm learning this song too so I got the sheet music and I have the beginning down which may be the hardest part! Thank you for posting!
you are one of the best paino players on youtube!! your tutorail was the best! me and my buddies played this song with two base gutars paiono(me) and drums. it rocked! p.s i am only 12 years old . i could not have done it without your great lessons! thanks again austin!
You mate, have a awesome talent. Especialy learning this by ear! Keep it up. We need people like you in this world. Just beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! ;)
I play this song on piano too your really good at it I love your cover it sounds like all instruments at once all most i liked the video great job keep it up!
its iconic songs like these that are making me want to learn to play the piano, looking at cheap keyboards to get me going for now lol, been playin guitar for 3 yrs so wanted a change :), great cover
that little intro where it looks like you kinda dont know what your doing made it sooo much better when u actually came and played the song perfectly!!!!!!!!!!! SWEEETTTT!!!
BEST SONG EVER. Even better when you play it on the piano. That was truly, awesome. I am trying to learn this by ear, i will never be as good as you. Amazing.
JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL, LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD, SHE TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOIN' ANYWHERE JUST A CITY BOY, BORN & RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT, HE TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOIN' ANYWHERE [ GUITAR 🎸 INSTRUMENTAL ] A SINGER IN THE SMOKY ROOM A SMELL OF WINE AND CHEAP PERFUME FOR A SMILE......
I’m learning this using your sheets and it’s only two days in but your notes make it so easy!! Haha i come back to watch this to get inspiration to keep learning it
I watch this video over and over and manage to get everything except for the solo guitar part - it’s so hard to coordinate that party - so frustrating ! but just love how you play it
@MCarter678: He was playing octaves. You need to play them with your thumb and pinky because it's the best/only way to reach both notes at the same with one hand.
I can only say HOLY FREAKING CRAP. and you did that by ear!? I wish you had sung along, I'm trying to learn it based on your tutorial and I'm having a [blank] of a time getting the vocals in the right spot. other than that very minor throwoff, this is just amazing!
this is the best youtube vidio ive ever seen i can play this song on piano but its hard for me to do two hands but its a great song, and you did a great job im going to watch it again.
Not sure if the hand switch is standard for this piece, but it was well done. If you learned this piece by ear you did a good job translating it to piano. One minor niggle is that you seemed just a bit stiff. It might just be "camera anxiety", though. I think it was just that bit of stiffness that led to the slightly irregular tempo and the few awkward bits I noticed. I'd just ignore the camera and try to relax a bit more. It might help your dynamic range too, but that might be the piano.
@tyinykiller5 it may look easy but it's actually kinda hard to play both hands at the same time because they're doing different patterns. the right hand is going back and fourth with the first finger and then the other fingers while the left hand is playing different chords. it's kind of difficult at first.
This is beauuuuuuutiful u r tooo goood, This is the first time I have subscribed to a channel imediately after watching a video. God gave u talent n i see ur using it
Can we just appreciate at 1:21 that he is playing not only sixteenth notes but then THIRTY SECOND notes?!
Amazing hand independence I bet this guy can separate his brains to think 2 different things at a time
Smart comment
I’ve sang this in numerous piano bars & no one has EVER played that part. I usually just sing it lol
I mean its like playing whole notes on one hand and half notes on the other :/
@@lizspt2394 is it though

Greatest song of the last 50 years, without question.
Greatest melody, great instrumentals..... good lyrics.
Well acutely the bohemian rhapsody was the greatest song ever in the 80s because how much melody it had and and the great parts it had

Still trying to pick my jaw off the floor from when he switched to his left hand to do the guitar solo part.
I love how you give little excerpts before actually playing the distinctive first notes.
The tone is so rich.
0:22 breathtaking moment, literally can’t breath.this is how powerful it is.
Who started to sing the lyrics?

Who didn't start to sing the lyrics should be the question. :)
IIGrayfoxII I did
Just a small town girl...
One of my favorite songs done very well on the piano
There's just something in the ring of European made pianos that make then sound so much richer than Japanese ones like Yamaha
In Yamaha's the strings are placed differently. The sounds vibrate of the other strings in European versions, in Japanese pianos the strings are in like there own chamber. I watched a documentary on how pianos are made. It was super cool.
Steinway bestway.
+Aero Force I think that's an American made piano..
+LemmingRush I like my Kronos 2 very much too.

HOLY CRAP DUDE THAT WAS WELL DONE
Lyrics
Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Don't stop believing
Hold on to the feeling
Streetlights people
Don't stop believing
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don't stop believing
Hold on to the feeling
Streetlights people

Um verdadeiro clássico do Rock, parabéns!!!
Unlike other videos he plays at a correct speed

Proof once again that just about anything played well on an acoustic piano can communicate the intended message of the song. Good job.
