I’m a drummer so i know about timing and playing in 2 different times but what is done in this video is something i’ve never seen before
Not to take away from the level of skill and training this pianist has - but at a certain level you are relying on a level of muscle memory in each hand. It's how you can train yourself to play very different pieces with your left and right hand. There's some added benefit that the tripleted guitar section does have an underlying beat to it that can sync up in places with the bass line. You can see it in the performance where he turns his attention to the left hand during the right hand triplet section, shifting the muscle memory to his right hand. This is like watching the amazing things athletes do during the olympics. It's incredible what humanity is capable of.
A piano virtuoso performing for free, and sadly people just walk by and ignore him like the music was coming from a radio. Blows my mind! This dude is incredible!!!

As a diehard Journey fan, that was absolutely great! I don't like hearing any vocal covers of that song because in MY mind, nobody can come close to Steve Perry. But this all piano rendition was absolutely phenomenal.

Wow! That is one hell of an arrangement and you play it incredibly well! I have toyed around with that song on the piano a bit but could never come up with anything like that! As others have said, you capture the sound of the entire band and that is so hard to do. I'd pay you some big bucks to teach me how to do that or send me your arrangement in print, and I used to teach piano! Thank you for sharing, truly incredible!

Not to take away from his talent, but the drum/beat machine I hear throughout the song must certainly help him keep the beat. Still very impressive!
I don't think people have an appreciation for how difficult it is to play a musical instrument that well.
