You cannot do anything to change your luck. If lightning strikes you or you get shot by a stray bullet and are killed, you are sh*t out of luck.

Hello Abdullah! "The Luck Factor" is one of my favorite books. I am very interested in chatting with people who have read the book too. I wish there is some sort of discussion group or club that discusses the ideas of the book and how we can apply the ideas to our lives on a regular basis. I find it so beneficial. If you are open to discussing the ideas in the book, feel free to contact me.

I've always been a very lucky person, and I've never attributed it to anything but all four of these points are so true for me and I find that so interesting!!

Hello Megan :) Can we talk? I am a huge fan of Dr. Wiseman. "The Luck Factor" is one of my favorite books. I may form an online group to discuss the ideas of the book. If you are a lucky person you could definitely provide value to the group. It will be wonderful to get the opportunity to talk to you!!!!

If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. I'm very resilient. It's just aggravating. Must be my attitude.

What exactly is the upside to being raped and maimed for life? People kill themselves everyday because no attempt at altering their perception will change their misfortune.

I only wonder if this guy has an answer to how a person's outlook should be if they were "resilient" and had nothing but struggle, hardship, poverty and violence thown at them, only to struggle and be "resilient" their entire working life, and realize that after all that perseverance, hard work and resilience", still got nowhere near your goals. it's so easy to tell someone just look on the bright side of life when that person has never or only barely had a taste of the bright side.

I don't think it's an answer to how to be successful. It's an answer to why some people think they are lucky. Have you seen that war photo of kids joyfully playing with water in a broken bath tub at a warzone? I deal with palliative care and I think over time, as people slowly lose grasp of their initial hopes and dreams, they switch to being grateful and even thankful for whatever is left. Maybe it's just a coping mechanism but who cares if it makes them feel at peace and at ease finally.

There seems to be a misunderstanding between the mathematical probability factors of luck/chance and the psychology of perceived luck.
But if it makes you happy... crack on.

I just applied for a job. Would have been a good job. But apparently they didn't receive my application, even though I applied for it, as per their instructions.. There was an opportunity - I took it. Yet things beyond my control didn't work for me. How does this fit in to your guest's assessment of luck?

So tell me what do psychology professors actually do.? Absolutely nothing, they sit around talking about their assumptions about human behavior, I'm still waiting for the day to hear or live something profound,..these people are a waste of time, the only ones that benefit are themselves, and we are the suckers, it's just the fact of life, we honestly have no control of our life's path or luck...!!

Goodness me Ali, you have lost all your credibility promoting the principles in this debunked book. Another example of students failing to critisise "evidence based" techniques as they are derived from fellow liberal PHD, scholar, psychologist..whatever, so it must be true. A bunch of anecdotal stories and correlations such as high extravasion equals more luck etc..The whole time I was wondering when is he going to define "luck". Thats why this book doesn't work.
