Hey I’m Josh from Adelaide, South Australia. I'm a proud father of 3 and passionate about heavy music.
I was the bass player for post-hardcore/alternative rock group Capulet from 2004-2012, releasing an album, EP and several demos.
Capulet were signed to Red Bull and the Taperjean Music Group alongside Closure in Moscow and The Mission in Motion.
Highlights of my music career were playing with amazing bands like Anberlin, Emery, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Haste the Day, Awaken I Am, and touring Australia several times.
I wasn’t the most technical bass player, but lived for performing on stage. I have always loved the process of song writing and the visual art that accompanies music.

Skillet is a Grammy-nominated Christian hard rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996. The band consists of John Cooper (lead vocalist, bassist), his wife Korey Cooper (rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist), Ben Kasica (lead guitarist), and the newest member Jen Ledger (drummer, vocalist). Skillet has released eight albums, two receiving Grammy nominations: Collide and Comatose. Over the past 13 years, Skillet has spanned many different genres, including hard rock, industrial rock, and symphonic rock. As of late 2009 they have sold over a million albums.
    Collide Album (2003 - 2005)
In 2003, Collide was released by Ardent Records. It caught the attention of Andy Karp, the Head of A&R of Lava Records, and in 2004 the rights to Collide were bought by Lava Records, a division of Atlantic Records. On May 25, 2004, Collide was re-released under Lava Records, with an added track, "Open Wounds". Collide was yet another musical shift for the band. Citing Linkin Park and P.O.D. as inspiration for the musical shift on Collide, Cooper said "Well Im one of these song writers, everything I hear goes through my John Cooper filter of what I like and what I dont like... all these things... have been an influence on me."
    Music video
A video was made for the song "Savior." The music video shows the band playing in both a house and at a park at night. It became only the second Skillet video to have a story in the video, after "Best Kept Secret," though the story in the "Savior" video is more heavily featured. The video shows an abusive father mistreating his children in the house, and the subsequent escape of the children from their father. They make their way into the park, while the location of the band playing switches from one to the other. The video ends with the children being safe in their mother's arms. The video is arguably the heaviest in theme in the band's career to that point. Lead singer and bassist, John Cooper has said that 'Savior' is a song written mostly about his childhood. Although he was not physically abused by his father, he had a very destructive emotional relationship with him. The end of the video shows that although Cooper and his father had a bad relationship, he had a very good relationship with his mother.

If this is your guys’ first time checking out Skillet, you should also look into something like Monster or Surviving the Game, both absolute bangers but definitely not their only ones

If you do another Skillet reaction, I think you should do a song from Awake. Monster, Hero, or Awake and Alive. Also, I enjoy watching your reactions.

Saw someone else suggest Whispers in the Dark, I'll recommend that one as well. Skillet's really a bit all over the place as far as style & genre goes. They've been around since 1996. Not a country act at all, but lead singer John Cooper is from Memphis, TN. Other tracks to recommend are "Awake and Alive", "Not Gonna Die" (particularly if you can find a version that includes the chamber choir intro), and "The Resistance". Great band to see live as well. They started out as an exclusively Christian act playing at churches and such, but had some breakout success into the mainstream. Some of the church people don't like that they play shows with heathens now, but they still love Jesus, so I think they're fine.

This sounds like everything I listened to twenty years ago, I was thinking Puddle of Mudd, Hoobastank, 3 Doors Down...

this was also the first song I had ever heard from them. Collide, 2004, was their first good album in my opinion, they made albums from before Collide but this was the start of their style that I truly enjoyed. In my opinion, however, Unleashed was their last good record. They haven't won me back just yet. Save Me was close but that was the only highlight on that record.

It's bizarre that this one is your first Skillet song after all the much bigger hits they've had since then. I'd say Comatose was their breakthrough album, when they started getting a lot more attention. They've had multiple hit songs on every album since. I'm sure you'll find something there you'll like.

Enjoyed you guys comparing to all of the bands I rocked out to in middle school and high school. Skillet is amazing, a bit more hard rock than metal for me, so more in the three days grace area than mudvayne to me. Love to see a reaction video to Demon Hunter, they’re metal and do everything from thrash and metalcore to some softer melodic songs. Good starting songs: Not ready to die, more than bones, I am a stone, the negative, fading away, the last one alive, cold winter sun, freedom is dead, relentless intolerance.
