Cheers for the plug mate! 🤘 barras for the win 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Price is going up now looking at 70-80k for a mint one and 45-50k for an average one
@@smr577 I knew they would go up! Exactly what I said back then 📈📈📈
@@RossReviewsau I was lucky enough to get my hands on a 2012 SSV Redline about 5 years ago and I’d love to get my hands on a clean low km Barra to complete the set.

I am more of a Holden lover, but have to admit the models of Ford's shown look unreal.
Max house power 2000
They look good because the more copied the VY and VZ Commodore for styling

@@aussiesupersnake6642 lol. HSV, in my opinion, kill the FPV on all levels. Aesthetics, performance and reliability. I’ve owned several of both. Ford to me a softer and more comfortable feel but the Holden’s are just better cars. Not talking late 60’s and early 70’s. Talking 80’s and up. Holden dominated for a reason.
@iamthebroker
Yeah I’d say Holden were definitely better from about mid 80’s through to early 2000’s, the XE was the last decent Falcon made until the Ba. So yeah the xr6 turbo and its Fpv variants that were introduced with the Ba’s were pretty great and I’d say the Turbo’s were what really kept Ford competitive for a good while as the Xr6T’s were that tad quicker than both their Holden and Ford V8 competitors. And the F6 could hang with the HSV’s and was quicker than the Fpv gt’s. So yeah from about BA through until FG the turbo 6’s wether it was the xr6T or F6 were pretty great, but by the time of the Fgx The Falcons started showing their age a bit too much.
But as for the V8’s Ford just couldn’t keep up as the boss 5.4 just wasn’t nearly as good as the LS V8’s. The 5.0 Miami’s were pretty good but were introduced later in the Fg’s life and the FGX motor aside just weren’t nearly as nice as the Holden VF range.
So yeah I’m a Ford man but Ford just made some stupid decisions from about the Xf until the Au. The Ba/bf/fg were pretty good and were much of a muchness with their Holden counterparts, but once the FGX came out Holden were just better again.
Ex-Ford tech from NZ here, worked for them from 2001 to 2016 and while there got to un-box many Fords & FPV's, fully check them over, fill them with fuel and put a few kilometers on there clock's.
Highlights for me had to be....
-2006 BF GT Build #1 first ZF6spd Auto - what a gamechanger from the 4spd
-Numerous Typhoon, F6 310, F6X, G6-E Turbo
-GT-F 351/404KW and the Ford Sprint6 325/370kw
-Then I left Ford to work for myself as a mobile mechanic. Was there as long as FPV was, perfect🙂
My brother has a couple of Barra drift cars to keep the FPV addiction fed, one a destroked 3.6L Barra Nissan Silvia S15 470kw+atw, with a FG XR6T Drift-taxi Caged 4 Seater with 410kw being a recent addition. Lots of fun and tyre vapour I assure you.
I've been lucky enough to have a 2006 F6 Typhoon and a 2010 Manual Supercharged GT, the Typhoon was fun, but the GT is on another planet! The most fun I've ever had. Absolute amazing machines and so happy to see them getting love

You don't know how much you miss something until its taken away. So sad that all the conversations about Falcons and Commodores are all in past tense.
I must say I’m glad I went Ford as a youngster. To many Commondores for my liking. I always used the we are in all motor sports not just V8 Supercars.
At the time we were in Indy, f1, wrc etc..anyway…
My point is that at least we can still follow Ford. I feel bad for Holden guys.

14:25 it was a factory option, and you can unscrew it and take straight off. as a falcon man myself, i love to see people from other countries, especially usa appreciating these beasts.
FPV nailed it with the Force 6 and Force 8, perfect blend of performance and luxury.. Also check out the G6E Turbo from the FG range ❤
Also F6E and GTE FG’s
as a european I only know those from gran turismo, know I used them in GT4, so awesome
Aussie made fords are great. The Tonneau cover on the ute is called a hard cover here and yes it was a factory option. You could also have it with soft cover. Such a shame the aussie utes are no more. Getting harder to find the good ones with low km.
My FG full time gas. 2008 only 110k kms…
Thinking of putting it on ice for 10-15 years.

the traditional ute is gone, 4x4 has taken over. Sucks.
In 2021 Ford still employs 2500 engineers, designers and other specialists in Australia on research and design for global products, making them the biggest employer in the industry in Australia even though they don't make anything here. so they must have accumulated some valuable research and development skills that Ford did not want to lose at least.

When my wife's dad passed away she inherited his 2003 Falcon SR. What a car Straight six with body contours and rear spoiler, and to drive it was a lounge chair on rails.. fabulous car!!
Good to see you getting into the Aussie fords! I’ve got an FPV super pursuit ute, and it’s a joy to drive and so much fun. My wife has an xr6 turbo (4L Barra) and those things just kick ass! Great cars and great engines!!
Love the videos mate. I am a GM/Holden guy from Sydney, I have always driven commodores. My Daily drive is VF SS Storm. But even as a Ford hater I am a big fan of the Barra engine, it is just proven tough. Respect where respect is due.
Keep up the good work mate!!!
The Barra motor has an undersquare bore / stroke, add forced induction and they are a very smooth motor that makes bucket loads of torque, not very revvy though. The sedans also have irs, the ute has a live axle.
Most FPV's don't have a barra engine.
Some people destroke em to 3.7 n 3.8L and rev em to 10k 👌 ,still with iron blocks which is insane. Not cheap to do though.
To make them rev you destroke them & they'll make 1000+kw easy
@@troysiemienowicz8353 Great idea - might make it a project for this weekend!
its a dead axle. if it where live it would have big hubs sticking out of the rims like a land cruiser. on a dead axle the axle shaft bears both the load and the drive but on live axle the axle shaft bears drive and a spindle bears the load.
Had a 2005 FPV BF F6 Typhoon in yellow and it was amazing, regret selling it. Modified with bigger intercooler system, injectors, exhaust, fuel pump and much more made around 440HP at the wheels. Absolute beast to drive.
The BA was better with an automatic, hands down in my opinion. Better for eating or rolling ciggies, better in traffic and believe it or not better for drifts on bitumen, better for drifts on dirt. Won’t shift up at redline or do anything you didn’t want it to do. Awesome transmission!
FPV was a phenomenal brand, it truly makes me sad that we dont make these cracking cars anymore.
I used to have a 2002 BA XR6 Turbo bought new, I then upgraded to the FG XR6 Turbo they were "fun" cars to drive. I now drive a 2019 5.0L v8 GT Mustang from Tickford (540 HP from factory :) )
That Barra standard would get around 19.5mpg
The owner gets around 12.5-13mpg in modified form.
and brand new is around 44 thousand drive away in USD
That second hand market at $30k AUD is $22k driveaway USD
The Barra holds the value do to the engine is a very wanted engine package due to the power it can make with aftermarket accessories and people that want them for fat skids haha
All FPV V8 engines were hand built here in Australia. A good video to watch is 'FPV Engine Production with Leigh Andrew.' Been enjoying your videos very much Ian. Hope you can get over here before too long.
@J S hand built in Australia, but the block and heads were made in America
@J S sort of but not really. I can’t remember the details but for the 5.0 I believe they changed nearly every major component in the engine except the crank to suit boost.
I remember picking up my dad's new FG fpv f6 2012. Absolute weapon of a car. As much as I love manuals you don't want a f6 in manual there way too tail happy. Also hard to find manuals now, most of them ended up around power poles unfortunately
The orange FPV at 11:00 is an unmarked Police car. You can see the radar and party lights through the windscreen.
As a former owner of XR6 & XR8, I'm stoked to see you enjoy our unique muscle cars RIP!
You should check out the 1000hp Ute I reviewed 👍
Originally the 5.4 was a single O.H.C. engine and the 4.6 was twin O.H.C. until some one noticed that the twin cam would fit on the single cam engine with minimal, if any, machining. So the Boss engine was born. As it was with, I think ( please correct me if I'm wrong) the original Boss engine that was a Windsor block with Cleveland heads. The best of both worlds. Love your vids, all of them, not just cars.
Boss is just a 5.4 modular engine. They were designed from factory with 2, 3 and 4 valve configs.
@@Jaredscott89 OK thank you. I wasn't sure.
The FORD Falcon V8's from BA with the 5.4L Boss motors had a muffler at the back that had a spring loaded pressure plate that would open at a certain exhaust pressure allowing more flow and sound bypassing some of the muffler when you put your foot down.
The Falcons with the 5L from FG2 had quad exhaust tips, the outer ones were smaller than the inner ones. The outer were the main exhaust going through the mufflers and the inner ones were secondary operated by vacuum lines, opening at certain RPM and were straight through pipes they were loud.
Got any proof of this in the BA? never heard of it, nor anyone I know that owns them
Keep in mind car prices are higher in Australia generally, plus the Australian dollar buys 73cents US so it's also around a quarter less in US dollars.
When these cars were built the dollar traded near 1:1, sometime above parity...
@@Jaredscott89
Yeah I remember, but this is in regards to todays used prices.
I’ve still got my ‘93 XG Falcon Ute, Tickford “big valve” head swapped with a Tremec T5 and 3.27:1 LSD. Might only be a SOHC I6 compared to the DOHC Barra but man over 2500RPM it has this deep thundering roar. Goes fast and does good burnouts. And yet can still “take the pigs to market on Monday.” Australia’s 2 door sports car and a rite of passage as a first car for a young man. Mine was sold by SVO and is a police pack (OPT 39) hence all the good stuff. (Except the head swap of course, I did that)
Option 39? Police pack?
Cop pack is Opt 20.
@@aussieausdeutschland4245 EF/EL era changed it, earlier cars form the XA era onwards were OPT 36. Utes probably carried that code in the X series until the dates matched the sedans of that era. Remember that whilst the sedans had changed to the EA series the sedan and Ute range weren’t unified until the AU era.
In New Zealand the BA XR6/8 were a very popular, the XR6 even non turbo are plenty quick enough!!
The Ford Territory used Barra six, they had 4WD, quite roomy inside, and yes they GO very very well!( My sisters partner had one, it went VERY WELL! Fuel economy Not good. )
Falcon and Commodore values went UP when the factories closed, and ANYTHING that Raced at Bathurst the value sky rockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the owner of a barra you got it spot on mate, one hell of a engine! best 6 cylinder ever made.
For reference I own an 2012 Ford FG ute mkII
My uncle has a BF F6 Typhoon. He's had it since he bought it new in 2004. He put a chip, cams, and bigger turbos on it. 15 years later, he still drives it every day. It has over 300k kms on the clock. Its been pretty reliable, he loves it more than his wife and children.
14:20, we call it a hard lid. A tonneau cover we call the same. Hard lids look cool but you lose functionality, a lot of them end up leaning against a fence in a backyard and rarely get put back on lol. They pop up on gas struts like a big boot, (trunk as you would say), but if ya NEED a ute they’re not practical. No good if you need to chuck a dirt bike or a fridge or something in the back.
The Typhoon @ from $53,000 may seem like a bit pricey to you but remember @ today’s exchange means that that price would equate to around $38,000 US dollars and the weekly wage is numerically more than your workers on average but of course everything here costs more also 👍
Thanks for doing this GM guy
Sincerely, Ford Fan
My dad has a 2011 FPV GS FG, he won it from a competition a while ago. It came with a 5.0L (302) Supercharged Coyote engine, BBS Magnesium-alloy rims, Metallic black paint, Carbon-Fibre wrap on the roof.
He has plans to give it a little (lot) more power and I cant wait to see what numbers it's gonna pull.

It was amazing. Nothing you ever driven before.
Australia used car market has exploded last couple of years. FPV and HSV prices have gone up round 10 to 15k or even higher depending on the age

Yeah 2/3 years ago I was looking at getting an Fg F6 310 and you could get a decent one with lowish kms for around $30kish. Then out of nowhere the prices just exploded and now they’re all like $40k plus.

The price of FPV's and HSV's are ridiculous now. Those who want them can't afford them and those who can afford them don't use them. Its a real shame.
True cause the thing is going up in price and if some one hits it can’t replace them

I bought my Ford BA Fairmont Ghia when they came out in October 2002. I still have it and I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon. The Ghia is all electric with Dual Zone Climate Control and Seat Memory Module which means the seat positions, climate control settings, radio settings, pedal positions and mirror positions were all programmed and activated depending on which key fob is used to unlock the car. You have three key/fobs with an additional three memories in the side of the seat. As for power, WOW! And I don't even have turbo, that thing just up and goes, VERY quick off the mark. My headlights don't have the semi-circle cut outs along the lower edge, just a clean straight look and additional turning lights instead of fog lamps, very cool.
I couldn't help myself, when the BA came out it was so different from every thing else before, yet so elegant, I instantly bought the top line standard sedan addition (the LTD is 18" longer and I don't like how the longer cars handle) even though until then I had been a Renault fan primarily.
I know you love Chevys so if ya haven’t done it already and I missed it, check out the walkingshaw W557 👊🏻
I did my apprenticeship for Tooltime Engineering and we built the FPR workshop, Always had the crazy holden/ford rivalry. There were more HSVs in the car park then FPVs and Ford Tickfords before FPVs
Also - if you can live without the FPV badge, the same vehicle is half the value!
No....I do have a factory XR6..The FPVs are a lot different with engine work , big differences in suspension upgrades, and interiors...they are also more valuable in regard to investment but also more costly to fix...Look for yourself...totally true...
I have a FG F6, totally stock in manual. What a vehicle. I seriously can't talk it up enough. Cracking punch when the turbo comes on, and just keeps pulling right through to the redline. Problem is, taking this vehicle to redline after 2nd gear, and you're almost breaking every speed limit in Australia, not to mention getting there quick even in stock form... It totally sucks we don't have them anymore, that goes for the Holden (GM) side as well. FPV and HSV were just awesome...
G'day Bluey I had a white FG F6 2009 model paid $32k had it for 4 years then sold it for $32k so lost nothing

The Barra Turbo, was a 4 litre (3984cc) or 243.1 cu in , straight 6 DOHC, engine developed in Australia.
The fun fact, is that the NA engine was the “Barra”, named after a fish, the Barramundi. Internally within Ford Australia, the Turbo version was called the “Gull”, short for Seagull. It was called the Gull, because even before it was born, many knew it would, shit on everything!
On the Tornado/F6 Ute the cover was factory I believe. It had gas struts, and was easily removed. So you would just chuck it in the garage if you preferred the open bed or soft cover. I have a 5.4L XR8 Falcon (Used the 5.4L FPV engine from the BA GT) and love it to bits.
I owned FPV F6 Tornado No 20 for a number of years. Had pretty much restored everything bar the paintwork on it (and hoodlining of course), Plazmaman cooler piping, high flowed the turbo & GFB BOV- plenty of fun with that setup. ZF went better after replaced the shift solenoids in it+ a service.
Had to sell it as needed more than 2 seats. I do miss the damn thing, had a lot of fun in it (nice twisty roads & plenty of flat open roads)
Got an FG XR6 manual now that i have a GTX4294R turbo to throw at it+ pistons and shit to go in once i get the time
Two years ago, I bought my 2010 G6E Turbo for AU$10,000 (US$7,000) with 250,000KM. The price is now about AU$20,000 (US$14,500) - AU$25,000 (US$18,300). So even high km cars are of value. I've probably spent less than $10,000 replacing the suspension with coilovers, getting larger rims and a flex fuel tune, as well as some other light mods. That gets me a car that can hold up to the big boy cars and still carry all the people and groceroes I want. A perfect combo.
250.000km. On a barra is nothing though. As where in some cars the motor would be almost due for a complete rebuild. The barra inline 6 is only run in at that time. The Barra inline 6 is guaranteed to get a little over 1 million km before any rebuild is needed. How many performance engine you know can do that? Not many. You will find the transmission will die before the barra inline 6 motor will
I think what we will see more of is NAs being converted to Turbo (they can handle it). So even NAs will probably go up in value.
I own 2 NA XR6s, FG with 86K & a EL factory manual 220K.
Beautiful cars to drive, & plenty of head turns ;)
@@Nathan-ry3yu Yeah. The only worry I have with the car is the ZF, notably the trans cooler. That's next on my list.
@@petezappa8748 This is my first late model Falcon. Before this I had 84/85/86 LTD and Fairlanes. Also great cars, on a few of them, the body fell apart before any engines did.
I'm an Aussie and currently drive a 2000 ford Fairlane with a Tickford 6. Tickford as you mentioned is the predecessor of FPV. If you haven't yet heard of them you really need to check out to FG G6E turbo if you like style
Either of the sprint edition my fav. Force 8 or 6 were nice. But F6 will do.
You are a total hoot, Dude! I really appreciate your regard of things Aus. Oh, and I'm a Holden girl :)
I worked at a Ford/FPV dealer during the BF II series. At launch a FPV employee was telling me they deliberately held back on the F6 models to keep the V8s as the halo car. But they said by just smoothing out the air intake the F6 would mop the floor with the V8.
I absolutely love the Force 6 in Ego with the Dark Argent rims
I used to work for a ford dealership and had to test drive these things. They don't have "get up and go", they have "got up and went"! Yes they are very easy to use as a daily driver, unlike the supercharged GT where if you sneezed you ended up 4 miles away!
My Dad has had Falcons from the first one in 1960 to today. His current ride is one of the last big stock six but in the luxury FG model. Even base engine they go hard and handle. The straight six is smooooth like an old school jag and nice condition Falc’s are hard to buy now everyone is keeping theirs.
Utes have " hard-lids" which open like the hood (bonnet) with gas-struts to hold it open. I have a BA Falcon Futura station wagon which is non turbo barra 6 4speed auto tiptronic (later models have 6 speed tiptronic automatic transmissions) and factory raised suspension, RV and it still sticks like glue through tight corners on country roads. Has more power than ever needed. The incredible amount of torque these 6s have allows for low revs (1500rpm at 100kmh (60mph) at highway cruising. Still driving like new. Only done 115,000 km, 2003 model
Still own my BA mkii XR6T 6sp manual......not an FPV but practically looks the same. Handles like a dream and still blows people's mind on the stock performance even at 16 years old

Worth a crap lot more now, in excellent condition (considering we don't make them anymore) more than their original selling price brand new!
F6 Typhoons are fetching anywhere from around 40 to 50k on the used market. I own an 07' model and the amount of attention and love theyre getting the past 2 years now is crazy. People are finally realising just how good a damn car they are.
The limited edition GT F 351 is the most powerful sedan ever produced by Ford Australia and is powered by a 351 kilowatt supercharged V8 engine that also develops 570Nm of torque from 2,500 - 5,500rpm. ... The GT F also gets rear camber bolt adjustment on the rear suspension so it can be adjusted for track days.
Great video. I recently sold my BF XR6T. It was in the colour we know here as Bionic. The colour you named as Grabber Blue. Owned it since new in 2006. Loved that car. Cheers.
one of my most favorite features of the FPV styling is the bonnet scoop on the V8's. they look f'n awesome on a BA/BF Fairlane.
Speaking of the name Brabham, here in Adelaide they make Australia's only Supercar, the Brabham BT62R.
Only 70 being built with a price of around $1.4millionUS, £1million or $1.8million AUD.
Stunning machine . It's on RUclips and well worth a look, even if you don't make a video about it.
My dad has always been a Falcon v8 man. His last beauty was a 2013 FG GT Falcon that had all the added extras as it was the dealership owners personal vehicle when they first came out. It had over 400hp in the rear wheels. It didn't belong to him too long as my Dad bought it from him after a test drive. It was specially tuned by the dealership which they won awards for the way they specially tuned them and it sounded pretty much like a v8 Supercar. It had the most amazing snarl to it as was always a head turner. Das bought it for himself after upgrading from the BA XR8 Falcon. I got to drive the GT a few times and OMG...you just touch the accelerator and the thing took off. It ended up being my Mum's drive to work everyday and my dad only got to drive it twice a week if he was lucky. Unfortunately my Dad has to sell the amazing beast urgently. It was like he sold a family member off, saddest day ever! I think I even had a tear in my eye that day. Will have to find the photos of it on Facebook as I don't have my laptop with me and post them. It was in a rarer paint colour of between a cherry red and maroon, called 'seduce' with the gold pin striping. Such a beautiful car and so sad that they don't produce these awesome vehicles anymore as they along with Holden's were the popular family car. Im in the South West of WA and once the FG Falcons were realised, the XR6 & XR8 really became the standard basic model and the FPVs GT and F6 ect were the more sportier family car and very popular here. When I find the photo I'll post it.
The hard lid plus spoiler was a factory option on the utes. It has gas struts so can be tilted up for easy excess. Or can be removed easily . It came standard with a bedliner.
The orange Typhoon at 10:16 is an unmarked cop car btw. I remembering having seen some come sideways out of corners lol
Thing on the back of the ute is called a hard lid, you could option it off or pull it off as simple as two clips
As far as price goes, what you ask and what you get are often, very different things. Although, since the start of covid, prices have gone nuts. People asking $2k+ for $200 paddock bombs.
One of the guys that used to attend our Friday lunchtime pub meal, had an FPV GT as his daily driver. There were many a surprised motorist that had him turn up on their tail ! When he hit the siren and hidden lights, they knew they were just about to make a withdrawal from the old bank account and a few less points on their licence!
Believe it or not, a lot of the performance sedan chassis design that was used in Australia, both Ford and GM, used as FWD yawn mobiles in the US. Your analogy of European/US design language is spot on Ian 👍🇭🇲🍺
I didn't get an FPV unfortunately, but I did have a Ford Falcon FGX XR8. 5.0L Supercharged V8, 4 piston brembos up front. Last of the XR8 Falcons besides the last limited edition XR8 Sprint... Thing was a work of art. 450bhp from factory with 420 ft•lb torque .... so good!
What I love about the FG. The rear lights were a Falcons beak
FYI Ian, there are 3.78541 litres to a gallon. The average cost of fuel in Sydney is about $1.50 AUD a litre for regular unleaded petrol with the high performance petrol around $1.80 AUD a litre. so we are paying around $6 to $7 AUD a gallon on average in Sydney. That equals about $4 to $5 USD per gallon.
Also, cheap old BA ute with a non turbo barra going for $5k AU and can make very good HP on stock internals and boost (notice BA and Barra, some people think it has something to do with the fish.....)
Also No 2jz or RB has come close to making a reliable, street able 2000HP. They have to buy an aftermarket (usually AU made ) billet block.
1000+hp barras on the street with no internals but valve springs, cam and oil pump upgrades
And they all run the auto that come in the car, forgot what its called but 8-9sec passes on them built autos and a locked diff, no fabricated 4 links or anything like that
HSV and FPV bought thier cars from holden and ford and upgraded them in their own factory, FPV was 1/4mnile away from Ford and FPR was another workshops stuck to the back of FPV
The barra 270T is in earlier models, the 310T uses a smaller turbo so it spools quicker but the extra power is from more boost and compression and timing changes, the garret turbos on these come ready to produce about 3 times as much boost as what stock tune demands. 310T and 270T also have fully forged internals which only became normal in stock lpg models from bf mk2 onward.
I know every time I respond to your clips I tell a story of how I was there, the truth is I was there. I was at Bathurst, I did work with Holden in Kununurra, I live on St Kilda beach and I was the engineering driveline manager at Tickford/FPV during the name change. I'm 60 years old I've done a lot of shit.
Ford and Tickford management were so secretive about the change that I attended tickford morning management meeting everyday at 7 am, I hated that, we knew there was a change coming but didn't have clue about FPV. I even recall when the first sample parts arrived for proto builds with a recess for the FPV badge and we were trying to guess what badge could fit in that space.
And you are right nothing sounds as good as a highly tuned straight six, find some clips of TVR's a just relish the noise.
I’m glad you liked it how can you not like them Ford power
