i actually like that you 10:00 left the original audio in. many reviewers don't, and at least a subset of viewers may be interested in the on board microphones' quality as cameras like this have a whole variety of use cases that aren't near any screaming propellers
Fantastic review, Lee! Thanks a bunch!!! 😃 Really impressive little camera! The built-in stabilization seems to work pretty well! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Good review and nice camera. I just looked at the manual; it seems you need to use the provided "USB-C" cable if you want to use the UART control, as the JST port only supports PWM. Also interesting: the "USB-C" appears to output analogue video on one of the lines, so if you're running analogue, you could use this as an extra camera, perhaps for rearview or something similar.
Hi Lee, Great video and review of the RunCam Thumb 2. I love my RunCam Thumb 1. It's great to use with my micros. I'm waiting for it to break so I can oder a new one. Thanks for the video and info on the RunCam Thumb 2.
Changing settings by qr codes is a fantastic feature. Sigma and GoPro have had this feature for quite some time. I can’t understand why all the other camera manufacturers haven’t implemented it. Especially Ricoh and Fuji
Thanks for the review! Did you notice any difference in 1080p quality vs thumb pro? Seems like may not be worth weight penalty if primarily shooting 1080p.
Hello, it will be a good thing if you make the comparison with the thump pro. I'm not sure that the upgrade will be so impressive when you put all pro and cons especially if think about the weight of the new camera But it is a good review of this type of camera, thanks for the job.
Going to have to try one of these, if only to see if it’s more robust than the 4K pro. Weak spots on the previous version are the sd card holder which comes away from the main board with the slightest crash and nd filters that detatch too easily.
Thank you buddy !! 😊 I’m very interested for my 2fiddy sub 250 just converted from 03 back to vista . I’ve got the thumb pro on my fully waterproof Cinelog 25 ( worry free fpv & floats on ducts ) as I followed your thumb pro naked guide way back . In your experience do you think the thumb 2 could be stripped down to shed weight a bit ?
Can I ask a silly newby question? How do drones send video back to the receiver display or to FPV or laptop? Mavlink is used for telemetry (?) but what about video?

massive RC fan still use my original Swift .. but why the crap 3d printed mount for 150 usd .. fail .. I would rather have hard plastic.. but would still consider .. cheers!
There's actually nothing wrong with a good TPU mount. It's soft, so it will absorb some vibrations, and it can survive significant impacts. Hard plastic tends to shatter after one crash and launch the thing it was holding.
how do u know the changes are in the cam .. i have thumb pro w and i point it at code nothing happens press double press how do u know its in , im trying to get auto on when power is supplied but no luck
Just received the 2 units I ordered. And yet again RunCam doesn't know how to design a GO Pro Style mount. The 2 part mount that came with the unit is absolutely useless. Hopefully someone will design a proper mount and upload to the internet!
Nice!! Will be good to replace foe my tail wing cam. Hopefully extra weight isn't too bad. Does it have the same pinout as the runcam pro? So just swap over cameras using the same jst connector? Also does gyroflow data save as a separate file or is it embedded now into the mp4 file?
Thanks for taking a look at it, but I'd suggest uploading the video in 4K so we can get a better idea of how the 4K image actually looks

Love the way you did the comparison tests and the stabilisation looks really good, great little camera for the price!

Surprised how well the in-built stabilisation seems to be working
Great work! I might add this to the collection
Great review! I think this might be great for a Flywoo LR

I'm still pretty happy with my Hawkeye thumb v2, maybe when i break it i will try the runcam.

I use Velcro to attach my Runcam 4k to my baseball hat visor. I use a portable Tascam for audio or my phone screen recorder for drone footage.
Good review

So far so good but I've not 'crashed' it yet... Happy flying
Excellent camera, excellent review. I personally think it is a little underpriced for it's capabilities.
Great work!. Not sure if the weight is worth it compared with the pro v2 previous one .
Hey. Can you use an external microphone connected via USBc to the camera?
If you can. it'll be in the manual.. Best of luck!

I have the original Thumb & was waiting for built in Gyro Flow .. would the original power cable power Thumb 2.. so I could switch them out. 😀
That'll work. I'll post an image when I am my PC...

is there a way to use it like a gopro camera without any RC? even for the control setup!
There isn't any control needed. You can also set it up to automatically start recording on power up too...
This doesn't really look much better than like my walksnail video direct from the FPV feed :(

Does it have a battery or is it only external power?
No internal battery... Happy flying

You don't, you only know it's read the code when the led changes. I'd try the latest firmware on the camera. Best of luck
The fallback is the lack of internal battery...though it probably helps with weight...
How do you power that if its placed on a fixed wing?
Could use a pdb with a 5v out i assume

Is it just video or can it be programmed to take photos?
Nothing in the manual store-m8o52p.mybigcommerce.com/product_images/img_runcam_thumb2/runcam_thumb2_manual_en.pdf
