The Law Development Centre (LDC) has questioned the intentions of the proposed legislation to change the method of selecting the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
The LDC presented its position to the Parliamentary Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, emphasizing that if enacted, the bill would weaken political competition and undermine democracy.
Paul Mukiibi, the Head of the Department of Law Reporting, Research, and Law Reforms at the LDC, stated that the Administration of Parliament (Amendment) Bill 2024 is not necessary at this time.
